Alexander's POV:

As soon as Mike stopped the car in a vacant parking space, Lexi, without saying a word, stormed out to the entrance of the building.

Oh she is boiling at the moment. She was boiling from the minute Mike informed us that mom had cancer for two years.

Lexi's anger is something she isn't able to control very much. Once she gets angry, it's hard to calm her down.

"LEXI!" I shouted after her as she pushed open the doors of the hospital.

I ran in after her. She needs to calm down and now.

She went into the elevator and I entered right before the doors closed.

"Lexi. Calm down." I said.

She had her arms crossed over her chest. She turned to me and gave me a glare. I did my best to not look away.

"How? How can I calm down?!" She yelled at me.

"Look, she probably had a good enough reason to not tell us." I tried to say.

"Be real Alex! She didn't tell us so we could go and have some time with our so-called father." She said and uncrossed her arms.

"So that we don't punch him in the face! Do you really think that she would lie to us?" I said.

"She did lie!"

"She hid the truth, Lex. It's not the same."

"A big truth!" She swung at me. I caught her fist in my hand. She swung her other fist but I caught that to.

"You want a punching bag? Try me." I said with a smirk which only added fuel to the fire.

This was the only way she could calm down. Although she was more faster and stronger than me but when it comes to anger, she tends to lose her focus.

She gritted her teeth and pulled her hands from my grip.

She went to punch my side but I caught her wrist and swiftly moved behind her, catching her other wrist as well.

She countered my move by pushing me backwards. My back hit the wall of the elevator.

While I was too busy hissing in pain, she pulled out of my grip and stepped back, facing me.

We kept going with her trying hit me and me blocking and dodging her every move.

Thankfully, we didn't press any buttons to any of the floors.

Eventually she gave up and punched the doors of the elevator.

"What the hell are you doing?" She asked.

"I'm trying to get you to calm down before you lash out on mom." I answered.

"I hate you." She said and pressed the button to the floor where our mom was.

I chuckled. "Love you too."

"You lied to us!" Lexi yelled as she threw opened the door.

The problem was...this was not our mom's room. In this room, a old aged guy was peacefully sleeping on his bed who woke up because of Lexi's loud entry.

He looked at us with a confused expression. Probably wondering who we were.

Lexi awkwardly cleared her throat. "Uhm.....sorry. Wrong room." She said and shut the door.

"Way to go, Lex." I commented.

"I thought it was mom's room okay? And not to mention all the doors are the same." She defended.

"Yeah, with different room numbers." I said.

"I remember it being two turns away."

"No it was three turns away."

She scoffed at me and walked further down the hall to mom's room. Thankfully, she found the right room.

"Just be calm when you enter, Lexi. She isn't doing well, remember that." I said to her before opening the door.

Mom was sitting in her bed reading a book. She looked up when she heard the door open.

She smiled at us and set the book aside.

"Hey mom." Lexi said and walked further into the room beside mom's bed.

"Hi, honey." Mom said back.

Lexi gave her a hug which she returned.

"Are you feeling okay?" I asked her as I went to the other side of her bed, letting the door close behind me.

"Yes. I feel a lot better." She lied. "How did it go with your father, by the way?" She asked as Lexi sat in the chair beside her bed.

Lexi and I were silent for a minute while mom was looking between us with a smile.

"Mom. I don't want to say this but please....stop smiling too much. We've seen enough of those today." Lexi said.

"I'm guessing it didn't go well?"

"Not that bad but not that well either." I answered.

"Mom do you think we could get use to their smiles?" Lexi asked.

Mom laughed. "Why are you asking?"

"Because...." Lexi looked up at her. "Those people are a little too smiley. They always have a smile permanently plastered in their faces."

"That's a good thing that they smile."

"Yeah but this much? They were smiling at us when they were talking, eating and even when something was wrong."

"They probably look at the positive side of things."

"Maybe." Lexi shrugged and rested her head on mom's shoulder.

A moment of silence passed between us. I sat on her bed beside her and laid down next to her.

"I love you, mom." I said and Lexi cleared her throat. "Sorry. We love you, mom." I corrected.

Mom gave a sweet laugh. "I love you both as well."

There was nothing but silence between us because Lexi and I didn't know how to approach the topic.

Finally, Lexi spoke up. "Mom?"

"Yes honey?"

"How long have you had cancer for?" Lexi asked her with a crack in her voice.

Mom sighed. "Mike told you, didn't he?"

"Yes he did." I answered.

"Well.... I've had cancer for two years but found out three months ago. I'm sorry I hid that part from you." Mom said.

I ran my fingers through her hair only to find a lot of it coming off.

"Please don't leave us mom." Lexi begged. Tears were freely running down her cheeks.

Mom's eyes turned glassy after she heard Lexi sob.

"I'm sorry honey. I can't help it." Mom apologized.

I wrapped my arms around her frame and her head rested on my chest.

"You don't have to apologize, mom." I said and kissed her forehead.

"No. I should have told you about it but I didn't. And for that I'm really sorry."

"Mom, You don't have to apologize. It's okay." Lexi said as she lifted her head from mom's shoulder to look at her.

Despite us saying that she didn't have to, she still apologized. "I'm really sorry."
