"CLASS, I HAVE PASSED OUT A packet for you to fill out. Turn it in to my before class is over, and I'll grade them. Then you will have them back tomorrow to study for your test," Mr. Banks said, standing at his desk.

We all nodded before working on our packets. I rubbed my eyes, sleepily.I didn't any rest at all last night. My mind was too clouded.

I was on question six when somebody poked me with a pencil. I looked over to see Jax poking me with his pencil.

"Do you know the answer to question six?" Jax whispered, making me give him a confused look.

"So now you want to talk to me? What happened to 'we shouldn't be friends' talk yesterday?" I asked him, using my fingers for the quotations.

"Look, it would be best if we weren't friends which doesn't mean that I don't want to," Jax replied, clearing his throat.

"Are you trying to pull some Edward Cullen crap on me? Because if you are, it's not working," I replied, curtly, looking back at my packet.

"Who's Edward Cullen?" Jax asked, confused at what I just said.

"The vampire," I said, titling my head. He still looked confused so I said,"You know, the one that lives in Forks that falls in love with the human girl. He's also a tad creepy sometimes."

He shook his head,"I don't know what you are talking about."

"I need to educate you before it's too late," I told him, making him smile.

"I really am sorry about yesterday. It's just that my mother is in the military and we move around a lot. And ever time I start making friends, we move," Jax apologized.

"I'm so sorry. I had no idea," I said, sincerely.

He shrugged,"Its not a big deal. Anyways, that's why I was so rude to you yesterday."

"It's okay. How about we forget about that, and start over?" I asked, making him nod.

"Yeah, I would like that. Hi, I'm Jax," he said, extending his hand out for me to shake.

I shook it before replying,"I'm Campbell."

"So can you help me on question six or am I going to figure it out on my own?" Jax asked me with a sly smile.

"Sure," I replied.

We worked together until the bell rang. As I was getting my stuff together I thought to myself. I'm glad that Jax and I are okay now.

"I'll text you when I get done with my errand," I told Brent before kissing him on the cheek.

His arm was wrapped around my waist, and he was looking down at me. My hands were around his neck.

We were at the football field, and I was telling Brent goodbye.

"I really don't want to practice today. It's too hot," Brent complained, scrunching his nose.

"Yeah, but if you don't practice then you can be benched for the first game of the season," I replied, making him groan.

He buried his face in the crook of my neck, mumbling to himself.

"Mason! Let's go or else you'll running laps," Coach Andrews yelled, making Brent and I break apart. Brent turned around to face the coach, and he gave him a thumbs up.

"I gotta go," Brent groaned, turning back around to me. "I love you."

"I love you, too. Have fun," I told him before kissing him on the lips.

"I'll try. Have fun with your...errand," Brent said after we broke apart.

He walked away from me, and I turned around before walking out of field. I walked out of the school's parking lot, and  I starting to walk towards the park which was only a few minutes from the school.

Mom and Dad offered to buy me a car, but I rejected the idea. I do have my license, but I am a terrible, terrible, driver. Which is always why Dad is giving me driving lessons once a week.

Once I made it to the park, I sat down on a black bench, putting my bag beside me. I took out my phone to see it was ten minutes till four.

I decided to start on my homework while I waited, but my nerves were going crazy. I tapped my foot, anxiously.

Ten minutes later, somebody sat beside me. I turned my head to see my mother sitting beside me. I slowly shut my textbook before putting it in my bag.

"Thank you for meeting me," Grace thanked me, looking over at me.

"Well, I want answers," I replied, coldly.

"I know you do and you have every right to be angry with me," Grace spoke, softly.

I laughed,"Angry with you? I'm past that."

"Please just hear me out. When I left you, it was the hardest thing I could have ever done."

I rolled my eyes,"Then why did you leave?"

She gulped before saying,"I needed help, Campbell. I had to do that on my own, and that's why I left you and your father."

"Then why didn't you come back?" I asked her as my voice broke at the end.

"I wanted to, baby. I saw you and your father at the park one day after I got help, and I was going to come back, but then I saw how happy you guys were. I thought you didn't need me," Grace said, turning her whole body towards me.

"Of course I needed my mom," I said, turning to face her.

"I know that now, and I'm so sorry for not realizing that earlier. I want to be here for you now, Campbell," Grace told me, holding my hand. "How is your father anyways?"

My eyebrows furrowed,"You don't know?"

She shook her head,"No. Is he okay?"

"Dad is in jail for selling drugs. He's been in there ever since I was twelve," I said, making her gasp.

"What? Wait a minute, if he's in jail, what happened to you?"

"I went into foster care. I was with a nice couple but they got a divorce and neither of them wanted me so I ended up in California with Malcom Fawn," I said, shivering at his name.

"Is that who you are with now?"

I shook my head,"No. I was moved here last November."

I really didn't want to bring up him.

"Is the family nice to you?" Grace asked me, biting her lip.

I nodded,"Yes. They adopted me a couple months ago."

Her eyes widen with surprise when I said that. She cleared her throat.

"Wow. That's amazing," she said, but I heard her sadness.

"Yeah, it is. I have five brothers, friends, and a boyfriend," I told her, smiling.

"I'm happy for you, really. It's just that I thought when I saw you yesterday, I was going to get my little girl back," Grace said with a sad smile.

Before I could say anything, a little girl ran over to us. Her short blonde hair was in a small braid, and her big brown eyes were looking at Grace. She was in a red sundress with white polka dots all over it.

"Mommy, look at what I found," the little girl said to Grace.

My eyes widen. "Mommy? I'm sorry, how old are you?"

The little girl looked over at me,"I'm five, but I'll be six in December."

My heart dropped, and I looked back at Grace.

"Campbell, it's not what-..." Grace started, but I shook my head.

Tears built up in my eyes, but I blinked them away.

"So all of this was a lie?" I asked her, breathless.

She shook her head,"No I swear."

"I should have known better. I should have never came here," I said, standing up.

I grabbed my bag, and Grace stood up. I went to turn around to walk away when she grabbed my arm. That's when I saw her wedding ring on her finger.

She's married?!

"Campbell, just let me explain," she pleaded as I got out of her grip.

"So all of this time I have been in foster care, wishing that my mother would come back for me, you have been getting married and having another child?" I asked her, hurt.

She shook her head,"It's not like that."

"I can't do this right now. I-I gotta go," I said before running away from her.

I couldn't believe that I fell for that. I knew she left because of me, and I'm so freaking stupid for believing what she said.

I ran all the way to my house, and I ran inside. As soon as I shut the door, I panted heavily as tears rolled down my cheeks.

"Campbell, what's wrong?" Mom asked, walking over to me.

I didn't answer her, instead, I hugged her. She was taken back by my actions, but she hugged me back.

"It was all a stupid lie," I cried as Mom rubbed my back, soothly.

"What was, sweetie?" Mom asked, wiping my tears away.

I told her everything from yesterday to this afternoon about Grace.

"And the worst part about this is that she never tried to reach out to me, not even to tell me that I had a sister," I said after I explained everything to her.

"I'm so sorry, Campbell. I wish there was something I could do to make you feel better," Mom said, rubbing my shoulder.

"You're already making me feel better by just being here," I told her, truthfully.

"Campbell, I want you to know that I'm not going anywhere, okay?" Mom said, making me nod.

"I know."

"I love you," Mom said, making me smile.

"I love you, too," I replied.

As we sat there, the only thought going through my mind was that Grace has a whole different life now. And it doesn't include me.

Hey guys!! I feel so bad for Campbell. Thoughts on this chapter??

Question: Who's your favorite superhero if you have one?

Mine would have to be Spider-Man or The Flash.
