Did Diallo's mother just say she liked me?

I was on cloud nine. She liked my ramblings and didn't think I was a goofball. And even though she seemed to pit my boyfriend against his sister, she was a typical mother. Overbearing but in a caring way.

At least she was not my mother.

I received numerous texts and calls from her that I chose to ignore this weekend. It was not about her this weekend. I would deal with her later.

"So, Mrs. Azzouzi, are you going to the football game later? My friends and I are and..."

"You don't come to Mizzou homecoming weekend and not go to the game. I may not be an Alumni, but I'm all about the team spirit as well," she said.

"Mom, was a cheerleader for her team, back in the day," Gay said then threw up her hands in a little cheer. "Go team, go! Right, Mom."

Mrs. Azzouzi cut her eyes to her daughter and I did not want to be Gay. I waved to JuJu to come over with her plate of food. I needed to get something to eat as well but did not know how to excuse myself.

"Hey, room for me?" JuJu asked when she came over.

Diallo stood. "Have my spot." He moved over to the other side of the table to sit next to his mother. "Oh, Rayvn, you want anything to eat? It's all free and sponsored by the Minority Resource Center. I'll go get you something."

I looked at JuJu's plate, where she had two burgers, two hotdogs on buns, and a pile of chips. I wanted to eat that amount, but I remembered I had t be a lady.

"Just a burger and chips." That should be enough, and I could eat that and not make a mess.

Diallo started to leave then turned back around to them. "Mom, you need anything else? Gay?"

"No son, you're good."

Gay only scowled at her brother, so he turned to leave. I watched him walk away then smiled at Mrs. Azzouzi. Left alone with her, I was afraid again.

"When you're offered free food while in college, always eat more than enough," she said, looking at JuJu's plate. "She understands that."

"I'm not even in college, ma'am, just visiting Rayvn for the weekend."

"And why not? College is an experience everyone should have."

"This is my experience. It's fun, I get that, but I don't exactly have the funds to afford all this."

"There are lots of scholarships and grants and you could work and go part-time. If you want college, you should be able to go."

JuJu nodded between her bites of food. "Takes more than a lot of money to come to school here. G.P.A. I struggled with that a bit."

"So what are your plans in life?" Mrs. Azzouzi asked.

I felt like I needed to defend my friend. She did not deserve to get cross-examined about her life, she didn't even know her. "Oh sorry, Mrs. Azzouzi, this is my friend JuJu, we grew up together. JuJu works back in St. Louis, at the Mobile On the Run carwash, right?"

"Actually, I'm looking into other jobs, you know, more money and a career," JuJu stated.

"Maybe I can get Angel to give you a job at her place."

"That would be cool girl, hook that up."

I smiled. "Angel is my stepmother. She's the reason I am here today. She attended college here."

"I would love to meet her. Did she come down for the weekend?"

"Not this weekend."

I was nervous for nothing. Mrs. Azzouzi was not that bad. Sure, she was being a parent about things, but she cared. She was not being mean or anything. Gay remained grumpy about her mother, but Diallo was obviously the good son. She had no bad thing to say about him, thus no bad thing to say about me. Long as Diallo stayed on her good side, I would be on her good side.

The crowd was getting smaller as the game was starting soon. Jared came over to check on me, met Mrs. Azzouzi, and then headed to the game with friends. Everyone was so pumped up over a silly football game.

Guess I had not caught the school spirit yet.

I texted Chantel that we were heading over there and where to meet us.

I just knocked out your roomie, was what she texted back.

"WHAT?" I yelled out.

Diallo and his mom looked at me and I'm sure I turned red...though I'm too brown for it to show.

"What's wrong?" Diallo asked.

"Ummmm..." I looked at JuJu. "We have to go...maybe I will see you at the game." I stood and pulled JuJu up with me.

"Wait, I thought we were all going to go together?" Gay jumped up as well. She leaned over to me. "Please don't leave me alone with them."

"Sorry Gay, we have to go." I pulled JuJu along with me.

"Hey, what's going on?"JuJu asked soon as we made it through the crowd of people

"Your cousin and Twyla, I think they were fighting."

"Then let's go."

We ran all the way back to my dorm, and that was quite a distance. It was so hot outside and I felt sticky and sweaty. Probably smelly as well. I could not get my key to open the door quickly enough, but as soon as the door opened, I could hear the yelling.

Twyla on the couch, crying, holding a towel to a bloody lip. Allura yelled at Chantel who stood in the doorway of my room, her arms crossed over her chest.

"What is going on?"

"She has to leave, Rave! She attacked Twyla for no reason," Allura said.

"Bitch, now why are you lying? And I don't have to go a damn place, this is my friend's room."

JuJu pushed Allura to the side and stood in front of her face. "You try something with me or my cousin, it's on. Cuz, did they try and double-team you?"

"I ain't the one crying, I'm good," Chantel said with a smirk. "She still seems to think Donnell wants her lil homely ass. Girl, please, you just keep giving it up and he keeps taking it."

"I hate you! All of you!" Twyla yelled and went into her room and slammed the door.

"Well..." I had no words.

Allura had plenty. "Rave, you're cool with me, but these two bitches need to go. They cannot stay in our suite. Period! Common thugs!"

JuJu swung and punched Allura in her face. "Thug that shit out!"

Allura did not even try and fight back, she ran into her room and closed her door. I watched in horror. What was going on? Was I in the middle of an MMA fight? I have never fought before and I was not planning on getting into this one either.

"Guys, come on, let's just leave for now and let them...cool off. I don't want you guys getting into any trouble."

"Fuck these lil girls," Chantel smoothed down her hair which was already perfectly in place. "Let's go enjoy the rest of our weekend, bestie. I did not come for the drama."

Maybe not, but now I was in the middle of it. How could I keep my friends there if both of my roommates wanted them gone? They came all this way for me and now this? I don't even care who started the fight, I know it was over this boy. I wanted to strangle him when I saw him.

"You guys still want to go to the game? If not...we can..." Anything but stay in my room.

"Hell yeah!" Chantel said.

I was not in the mood for this football game, but I was not staying in that room either. We left and headed out. I texted Diallo a heads up about what was going on. Surely Allura or Twyla would report what happened and then get my friends thrown out. What was I supposed to do now?

A/N: Girls fighting over a boy is the dumbest thing ever! Especially when the guy could care less about either. Let's see what Donnell has to say because he is the most hated character right now...outside of Rayvn's mother.
