I told myself I would not let the problems of my friends become my problems.

If Twyla wanted to fall for a guy that had no intentions of making her his girlfriend, fine!

If Chantel wanted to fall for said same guy but I did not disclose what type of guy he was, fine!

And Allura falling in and out of love with the same guy for the last four years, big deal!

Not to mention, Gay was being, gay.

Their life, their problems. I needed to focus on mine.

Schoolwork was getting better. I did not feel as if I was being buried alive. Once I got my study habits on track and stuck with them, I was able to keep up with the rest of the class. Todd still tutored me some, but it was not the same. I did most of my work on my own.

Any free time, I tried to spend with Diallo. All week, we studied together, or hung out in his room, very rarely my room. I did not want to have to face Twyla or Allura that much. Things were great!

"Want to go to a movie this weekend?"

I was in Diallo's room, typing away at a paper that was due tomorrow morning. I could not think straight about what my weekend plans would be.

"I might be busy?"

"On Saturday?"

"Yeah."

"Doing what?"

I grabbed my phone and looked at it. I didn't have any plans, but it would be my only free weekend before Homecoming and my friends came back down. My plan was to hide out in my room and get some sleep. That probably was wrong, since Diallo wanted to do something with me.

"Movie sounds fine."

Diallo nudged me with his elbow. "What's wrong? You don't seem happy to hang with me besides doing something like homework."

"No, that's not it. You know I like spending time with you. Sometimes you know, you just want downtime."

"Downtime includes fun time. We hang out at the dorm all the time, need to go outside and get fresh air, touch grass, have some fun." He nudged her again. "If not the movies, whatever you want to do."

I smiled at him. Mr. Perfect being perfect again. Of course, I deserved downtime. I needed it in fact. Not wanting to hang with my roommates, all I had was Diallo right now. Maybe it was what I needed.

Saturday morning, Diallo came to my room, and we went to get breakfast in the cafeteria. He was well-known on campus, maybe for being a RA, maybe for being President of ABC. Lots of people wanted to stop and talk to him, especially girls. Pretty girls, popular girls, girls of all different races, girls that were a lot older and more experienced than me.

I mean, I'm standing right there with him, but that did not stop them from flirting. I was not worried, Mr. Perfect was perfect after all, he only had eyes for me.

As for me, I still was a nobody on campus, even though I dated the big man on campus. No one knew who little Rayvn Lawrence was. That dorky girl that made a big entrance in English 101, or that girl that covered herself in food in front of the whole football team.

At least I owned it.

Even though some girls were trying to invite themselves to breakfast with us, Diallo told them no, and it was just us. I wish some of his popularity would rub off on me. I didn't need to be super popular, but it would be great to be known for something other than a catastrophe.

We were finishing breakfast when Allura and Twyla came over to our table with big smiles.

"Hey you guys," Allura said with a giggle.

"Yeah, hey," Twyla added with a giggle.

I was confused about their giggly behavior. "Umm, heee-ey?"

"Why would you guys just leave and come downstairs without us?" Allura pulled up a chair to sit at their table.

"Rayvn gets a boyfriend and forgets all about her roomies," Twyla said.

"I didn't-"

"It was my idea we come together, alone, don't be mad at my girl."

I smiled at Diallo, loving how he said I was his girl.

"Oh Diallo," Allura said and petted his head as if he was a puppy. "This isn't about you. Rayvn is breaking the girl code."

A code I knew nothing about. I never had a boyfriend, so I had no clue what that meant to my friends. Well, my roommates. I had yet to consider Allura and Twyla my friends like Chantel and JuJu were my friends.

"Sorry," I said. "I know you two like to sleep in on weekends so I didn't think to ask. Hey, we're going to the movies later, you wanna-"

"No," Diallo said, stopping me from inviting them. "No, just us Rayvn."

I gave them a sorry face. They went to grab food, but we were leaving. Soon as we made it to the exit Gay stood there, standing near as if waiting for us. Now what?

"Hey, bro...bro girlfriend." She stood between us and put an arm around my shoulder and her brother's. "What are we up to?"

"About to head to a-"

Diallo interrupted me again, moving Gay's arm from his shoulder. "Do you have to be an annoying little sister right now? Allura and Twyla are in there, go hang with them."

"No way! My bro pushing me away for a girl?"

"Not just any girl. My girlfriend." He took my hand and pulled me away from Gay. "By sis, catch up with you later and you can tell me all about whatever declaration you're about to make."

I was loving how Diallo was only focused on me today. I relished it.

We headed to an early movie so the tickets were discounted. And even though we ate a nice-sized breakfast, we both wanted snacks for the movie. He bought the tickets, we went half on a medium popcorn and a large drink.

The movie was half full, mostly the college crowd, and a few older adults. We had seats in the middle of a middle row. The movie was awesome and we talked, in hushed tones, throughout the movie. I was having a great time, not thinking of school, my grades, my mother, or all the other stressful things in my life. I needed this outing.

"You want to go to the mall with me?" he asked after we left the theater and headed back to his car. "I need to do some shopping."

"Sure."

The mall was packed. Like, crazy packed as if it was a holiday. I was not a mall girl for real, only hanging out at the St. Louis Galleria with my friends when we wanted to look at hot guys and fill up on food court food. Columbia's Mall was nothing like the Galleria.

I thought Diallo was there to buy new clothes, new shoes, or some games or something, but no, he was looking at jewelry, necklaces, bracelets earrings, and the good stuff, not the cheap stuff from Claire's. Was he trying to buy me something? A gift for no reason. Of course, Mr. Perfect would be perfect.

"I like these." I held up a pair of dangling, faux diamond earrings to my ear. I would never buy myself something this extravagant but if Diallo wanted to buy them I would take them and wear them every day.

"No," he said, passing them over and looking more at the display case, where the really expensive things were.

I didn't want him to spend all his money on me.

He pointed out a silver bracelet, the kind you used to add charms to. "I like this, what do you think?"

"Uh, sure." Wasn't my style, but okay.

"Think my mom would like it? For her birthday."

Oh! I felt dumb but I had to play it off. "Yes! Sure!"

"I want to get some charms on it, for me and Gay, make it a gift from both of us because I know she will forget." He grinned at me. "She's coming down for Homecoming week. I want you to meet her."

Oh no! As if I needed more stress in my life, I had to meet his mother.

A/N: Can Rayvn ever just have chill time, no stress in her life? Even though Diallo met Angel, it was briefly, he did not spend much time with her. Now with Diallo's mom, I have something different in store.
