2| Will Byers Goes Missing
ο½₯ ο½‘οΎŸβ˜†: *. β˜†ε½‘οΎŸ.

THANKFULLY THE KITCHEN LIGHT was still on when my house came into view. At least I'd still be alive for the next campaign.
I rode my bike around to the back and parked on the side of the shed. I liked keeping my bike in area where I could have easy access to it incase of an emergency.

I go in through the side door. I also bump into a certain brother of mine along the way.

-"Steve?" I question him with a confused expression.

-"Stella! Don't tell Mom or Dad and I'll give you whatever you want! I'm just going for a walk!" He chuckles nervously as he scratches the back of his neck.

-"How'd you get out of it this time?" I ask him while folding my arms over my chest.

-"It doesn't matter. Hey, where'd you come from anyway?" He copies my actions.

-"I went to your "girlfriends" house." I put quotes around "girlfriend" with my fingers.

-"Well, she's..... never mind...... what'd she say to you?" He asks suddenly becoming interested.

-"Nothing. I didn't say I saw her. I said I went to her house." I repeat.

-"Ah forget it! See ya around kid." He then exits the house leaving me alone in the mud room.

After having a snack of milk and left over homemade cookies, I hurried quietly upstairs to my room. When inside, I shut the door and then plopped down on my bed. I smashed my face into my pillow. A warm and relaxed feeling came over me, and it felt good. I then sat up and hung up my backpack. While hanging it up, my eyes feel on a picture of Will and I at his 12th birthday. The warm feeling immediately went away, and instead I felt cold, and uneasy. I was so focused on the picture, I didn't even hear the knock on my door.

-"Stella, lights out." My Dad says in a tried and monotone voice.

-"Night dad!" I answer back, while preparing for bed.Β

At the breakfast table sat Dad and Steve. Dad was eating scrambled eggs (yuck) while Steve chowed down on eggos. Mom was cooking herself something on the stove that smelled interesting.

-"Stella, how'd you sleep?!" She asks.

-"Ok, I guess," I answer.

-"I guess?" Mom questions turning to me.

-"I mean, I slept fine!" I smile and shrug my shoulders a little.

She nods in approval, then turns back to her cooking. I take a seat next to Steve. Mom then joins us with a plate of, whatever it is she made for herself. Mom and Dad share a quick glance and speak with their eyes. Steve and I are quick to pick up on this, and we share a "raised brows" look.

-"What's going on?" Steve questions after about a minute.

-"You wanna tell them Ed?" Mom asks her husband.

-"No, you do it dear." Dad insists.

-"Ok, as you know, our Anniversary is tomorrow. Well your father reservations to a resort in Sunny California! I just found out last night! And we're leaving tonight, and we'll be home in a week!" Mom exclaims giddily.

Steve stares at our parents with wide eyes, and I, don't know what to think.

-"So you're leaving," I start.

-"Tonight?!" Steve finishes.

-"Yes kids! We haven't done this in a while!" Mom reasons.

-"You did last year." I remind her quickly.

Man, if there's anyway, that mom and dad can leave town, then they'll do it.

-"Don't forget about the trip you took in the Summer." Steve adds while wiping his face.

-"Oh come on kids! We like traveling! You all need to calm down. We've already packed, and Stella you're in charge of the house!" Dad concludes as he stands up from his seat and walks over to the sink.

-"Why her?!" Steve question my parents decision quickly.

-"Because she's responsible!" Mom answers back.

Steve did offer to give me a ride to school, I told him I wanted to bike instead. I needed to think. And sometimes, when your by yourself, thinking is easier. I was so lost in thought, that I forgot to contact Will with the house phone to ask him if we were gonna meet up this morning. When I arrived at school, I meet up with Mike, Dustin, and Lucas.

-"Hey guys!" I greet them as I park my bike next to theirs.

-"Hey Stella, is Will with you?" Mike asks quickly.

-"No, is he not here?" I ask. A bad feeling quickly comes over me.

-"No, maybe he just over slept." Dustin suggest.

-"No, he doesn't over sleep," I bite my lip as I look around the school grounds. My eyes search for a shorter kid with a bad haircut.

-"Come on, we have a science test we need to get ready for." Lucas reminds us.

We all sadly walk away and towards the entrance of the building. That's were we meet Troy and his jerk of a friend James.

-"Step right up, ladies and gentlemen! Step right up and get your tickets for the freak show!!" Troy sneers as his friend snickers.

-"Cut it out Troy, just go away," I say quickly, not wanting to make a scene.

-"Do the thing!" Troy chants, was the last thing I heard until I saw..... Will?

He was walking towards the door, he opened it and walked inside. Some kid bumped into him, and didn't even bother to apologize. I got a bit upset at what that kid did and jogged lightly towards the door.
When inside, I looked around for a minute and found Will, waking towards his locker with his head low.

-"Will," I call out. He doesn't hear me and continues onward. I get frustrated and gnaw at my dry and chapped bottom lip.

Boy do I need lip balm.

I follow Will to his locker. He stops right in front of it, and doesn't move. I place my hand on his shoulder which he seems to ignore and stays as still as a statute.

"Will, Will, come on, you're gonna make a scene!" I whisper, knowing that he doesn't like attention.

"Come on Will! William Byers!" I shout flustered.

All eyes are on me now, and I feel a light tap on my shoulder. I whip around to come face to face with Mike.

-"Stella? You ok?" He asks with a concerned look on his face. Dustin and Lucas stand behind him with the same expression.

-"Yeah, I found Will," Mikes eyes go wide and I look at him with a confused expression. I turn around again, to see that Will isn't there anymore.

"He was right there, I swear....." I mumble in disbelief. How could he have disappeared?

-"Maybe it's just the simple fact that he wasn't there in the first place?" Lucas raises his eye brows.

-"Is Steve on crack, and let you have some?" Dustin questions. His eyes dancing with amusement.

I immediately cringe, and swat his arm.

-"No! Steve's not on crack! And I most certainly am NOT either! If I was, I wouldn't be talking to you right now!" I huff as I cross my arms over my chest.

-"Why not?" Mike asks as I walk away.

-"Because I'd be dead!" I yell back, earning many stares while doing so.

( β€’ β€’ β€’ )

My knee shook vigorously as I sat through my last class of the day, History. I mean, it's not THAT bad, I don't see how learning about a bunch of dead people is relevant, but ya know....

I was anxious to get out early, I needed to know if Will, my best friend, was ok. Perhaps he was sick, or maybe just decided to skip, but that's not Will, he wouldn't skip, unless he had a good reason.

When the bell finally rang, I shot up from my seat and practically ran to my locker. I grabbed my stuff from it and quickly walked outside to my bike. I hoped on, and rode away.

When I got home, I ran up to my room and threw my bag on my bed. I also changed into something a little more flexible. When finished, I grabbed my other backpack full of necessities that I always keep in there, and ran downstairs. I went to the kitchen to fill and water bottle, grab and snack. I was in such a hurry, I didn't even bother to try to find Mom. What I did find was note on the counter which read,

Left early! We'll be back on Monday in a week! I promise. Stella you're the woman of the house! Steve, stay out of trouble!

xoxo Mom

I sighed and put the note back down where Steve could see it. I then grabbed my things, and left.

I rode over to Wills house, thinking that would probably be the best place to look first. All the sudden, that same bad feeling came back, but this, I felt like I needed to vomit. I pulled over, and caught my breath.

-"Come on Stella! Breathe!" I instructed myself.

I didn't get to Wills for another twenty minutes. When there, I hop off my bike and let it lay on the leaf covered ground. I ran up to the door and knocked on it. It was opened almost immediately, and Wills Mom Mrs. Byers stood in the door way.

-"Oh! Hi Stella!" She smiles weakly. A bit of disappointment lancing her voice.

-"Hi Mrs. Byers, is Will home?"

-"Um, well, that's just the thing. He wasn't at school today was he?" She asks avoiding my question.

-"Um no, he wasn't. That's why I came here!" I chuckle. Trying to make the tension that was growing in the air disappear.

-"Stella, this isn't the best time." She says as she closes the door behind her.

-"Mrs. Byers, I just wanna know where Will is." I press getting a little impatient. Why was she acting so weird?

She takes a deep and shaky breath through her mouth. Her eyes start welling up with tears and she bites her bottom lip. Her voice is shaky as she speaks.

-"Will's missing."
