I had just finished telling Aiden a bedtime story in which he had helped me develop.  I found myself having loads of fun with him.  I was far from prepared to the heavy-hearted conversation that was about to ensue as I attempted to kiss, this much too smart, four year old goodnight.

“Amelia?”  He asked as I motioned to lean over him and kiss him on the head.

“Yes Aiden.”  I said sweetly and couldn’t help but smile.

“Do you love me?”  And my heart just about leaped out of my chest.  I took a deep breath and proceeded with caution.

“Yes little man, I love you to the moon and back.”  I give him an answer that was true and that he would know how much he was loved.

“That’s super far!”  He looks at me with his mouth open in awe and I couldn’t hide the giggle from him.

“It sure is.”  I tell him and I kiss him on the forehead.

“Do you love my Daddy?”  He asks as I start to pull away.  “He loves you very much.  He told me so.”  And I couldn’t help but smile at him.  Oddly enough, I didn’t feel nervous or uncomfortable answering that question.

“Yes little man, I love your Daddy too.”  I say quietly.  “But you can’t tell him because he doesn’t know yet and Amelia wants to tell him herself really, really soon.  Shh!”  I whispered the latter.

“Okay.”  Aiden whispers back to me and I wink at him.  “When you tell him, does that mean you’ll be kissing Daddy like he kisses you?”  I couldn’t help the chuckle.

“Yeah, I suppose so.”  I tell him, unsure of how much information this little boy really needed.

“I think that would make Daddy really happy.”  He says.  “Trish never made Daddy laugh like you do.  She never played with me either.”  And I couldn’t help but laugh at his sulking face, only, at the same time, I felt sorry for the little guy.

“Tell you what.  I’ll always be around for you if you need to play with someone, deal?”  And he sits up and wraps his short little arms around my neck tightly.

“I love you, Mommy.”  He says.

“I love you too, little man.”  I told him as I lay him back down and kiss him on his forehead again.

Making sure he was tucked in and everything was in order, I walked out of his room faster than a bolt of lightning, not wanting for him to see the tears that had welled up in my eyes.  As I flew out of Aiden’s room, an arm grabbed mine and I found myself staring in to a pool of watery green eyes.  He pulled me into his room quickly, shut the door behind us and held me tightly without saying a word as I let out the surge of emotion I had let accumulate in the last few minutes I had spent with Aiden.  When I began to calm, he held my face in his palms and brushed the tears away from my cheeks.

“We’re not just best friends anymore, are we?”  He says, smiling that sweet smile of his that melted all my troubles away.  I shook my head.

“No.”  I started.  “No, we’re not Christian.  God!  How do I say this?”  I spoke the last to myself.

“I love you too, Mia.”  He tells me.

“You heard?”  I asked him, my eyes wide in surprise.  He nodded and just when I thought a smile couldn’t get any wider, his did.

“Everything.  I can’t believe my four year old son knew about you loving me before I did.”  He says and I caught on to his teasing inflections.

“You were listening in so I guess you’d have to say that you share the honor of finding out at the same time as your son.”  I tell him, throwing in a chuckle.

“So what does this make us, then if we’re no longer ‘just best friends’?”  He asked me, slowly moving in towards me, biting his bottom lip.

“I don’t know.  I just figured out that I love you.  You can’t expect me to figure out the rest for us, on my own!”  I told him with my best impression of annoyed exasperation.  He laughed as I found myself cornered between him and his mattress.  He grabbed my hips and nibbled my jaw.
“How about I…”  He moved to kiss the other side of my jaw.  “Help you...”  He nips my lower lip and I feel my knees weaken.  “Figure it out.”  He pulls back to look me in the eye.

“Sounds like a plan.”  I whisper on his lips and close the gap between us as I wrap my arms around his neck and massage the back of his neck with my fingertips.  He laid me down in his bed after stripping both of us of our clothes and covered my body with his.  The fire that burned inside of me was more intense then it ever was and Christian was feeding the flames with every kiss, every lick, and every touch.  Before he entered me, I grabbed his face and made sure he heard the words I knew I still owed him despite his knowing how I felt.

“I love you, Christian Masterson.”  And I kissed him with all the breath I had in my lungs at that point.

To say that our lovemaking was great would have been an understatement.  It was the stuff that dreams were made of.  Our bodies fit together perfectly, like two missing links of a chain.  Our passionate rhythm was in sync.  The explosion, after explosion of pure carnal bliss only proved to me that what we had was right.  If only Granny could see me now!  I found myself thinking.  It was still quite early and I felt the need to stay awake and never let this day end.  I lay with my head and shoulders up against the headboard as Christian was on his side with his head lying on my stomach as my fingers played in his hair.

“Would you just stop that already?”  I hear him say.

“What?  I didn’t say anything.”  I laughed.  He lifted his head and looked at me.

“I know.  But your head just won’t stop.”  He says.  He was right.

“I’m sorry.  I can’t help it.”  I say, laughing huskily as he begins to kiss up my stomach, slowly crawling himself up to my face.  I had thought about telling him about Adam and the whole story about his accident but I didn’t want to ruin the night.  I figured that tomorrow was another day.  As he peppered my face with tiny kisses, I began to giggle.  He gave me a nice soft kiss on the lips and then rolled off of me, onto his side of the bed, bringing me so I lay in the crook of his arm.

“So…”  Christian started.  I knew where he was heading and I couldn’t help the chuckle.

“Yes.”  I said.

“You didn’t even know what I was going to say!”  He laughed at me.

“Whatever it is, the answer is yes.”  I tell him and kiss his chest as I hug myself closer to him.

“Great!  So let’s set a date.”  He says and my head snaps up, shocked.

“Excuse me?”  I asked with, I’m sure, a doe in the headlights look on my face.

“For the wedding; let’s set a date.”  He smirked.  I figured two can play that game, there’s no way he was serious.

“Okay.  After I get back from the big bad city.”  I tell him.

“What?”  His head came off the pillow as I leaned on him, my arms crossed on his chest so I could see his full reaction.

“You heard…”  And he rolled me off of him and onto my back and put a hand up to silence me.  He trailed the tip of his index over my lips, slowly.

“Don’t toy with me, Baby.”  He says seriously.  “Would you?”

“Would I what?  Go to the city?”  I paused for dramatic effect.  “Yeah.”

“No!”  He looked at me flustered and I couldn’t help but smile at him.  I saw the tension in his face dissipate and the look in his eye soften, the green only glowing brighter.

“Yeah, I would marry you, Christian.  But I have a feeling that it wasn’t the question you originally intended to ask.”  I tell him.

“How did you know?”  He asked me.

“Because, when you’re having fun, trying to get a reaction out of me, your eyes do this dancing thing.”  I explain to him.  “So, with that, yes, I will be, I am and want to be your girlfriend.”  And I look up at him smiling, batting my long lashes.
