May 2 2016.

Jessie's funeral.

"Where were you this morning? You stormed out without a word. Didn't see you whole day." Bethany asked Lana as she applied mascara.

"I had to do something." Lana replied not making eye contact.

"Did it involve Jake?"

Lana dropped what was in her hand and looked at her best friend.

"He didn't even deny it." She said.

"I'm sorry L." Bethany said and pulled her in a hug.

Today Jessie was finally about to be burried, it has been four days since she had died, but they were waiting for her family to fly to town, and the autopsy took a lot of time in order to determine a cause of death, which still is a mystery. All they know is that she was murdured, no DNA showed for a guilty party.

"Is it a good idea to go?" Liam asked as Bethany fixed his tie.

"It'll be suspicious if we don't go, we're all in the news, everyone knows we were being accused, if we don't go it'll raise the suspicion on us." Lana said.

"But we're proven innocent now, that's all over the news too." Colton said.

"We'll just go, pay our respects to her parents and offer to help in any way." Bethany said.

"How are you going to help them? Seriously what can you do to help? Their daughter is dead. What are you gonna do her chores for her?"

"Shut up Colton."

"Alright we need to go, and remember if we see Melanie, we're talking to her, whoever sees her first, text from the group chat. It's the perfect opportunity to get her to talk." Lana said.

"Yeah sure a funeral is the perfect place to talk to her. Cause who doesn't like to talk about their dead prostitute friend at their funeral?!" Liam said sarcastically.

"Now's not the time for your sarcasm Liam, stop being a douche and get your keys or we're gonna be late."

"Is Jake coming?"

"I don't know I don't care. I don't give a fuck what Jake does anymore. I couldn't care less about him." Lana said and left the house.

Bethany explained that they broke up and then left after her to go to the funeral.
It was just like any other funeral. Her parents were devastated, and they felt bad for them. But at the same time, they had something else on their minds. Who put the Louis' daughter under the ground. They searched for Melanie and spotted her walking in the church wearing a little black dress, her blonde hair pulled back in a pony tail, and sat down at the back of the church.

"I can see why she's the boss." Liam whispered.

"I would say something but we're in a church, so instead I'm gonna say shut your mouth." Bethany whispered through gritted teeth.

"Hey." Colton whispered.

"Hey." Lana whispered back.

"Are you still mad at me?"

"No, I actually wanted to thank you."

Colton stared at her for a while with a confused expression as to why she would want to thank him.

"Even though we fight all the time, you're my best friend and thank you for telling me, I cannot stand to see his face ever again."

"Then don't look straight ahead."

As he said that, Lana did exactly the opposite and saw Jake paying his respects to Jessie's parents, in the front of the church.
Lana took a hold of Colton's hand and squeezed it. He gave her a smile and then smiled to himself.
The funeral went by, the priest talked about Jessie, said a few words about her, what kind of a person she was.
Little did they know that sweet innocent Jessie was an undercover whore. Lana thought.
After that, there was a reception held in the hotel lobby where Jessie's parents were staying.

The four paid their respects to her parents and explained what was misunderstood. Her parents didn't put a blame on them and thanked them for coming. Melanie was also at the reception, she paid her respects as well and sat down at one corner by herself.

"Alright this is it, let's talk to her." Colton said.

They made their way towards her and stood in front of her until she looked at them.

"Can I help you?" The blonde asked.

"We were wondering if we could ask you a few questions, Melanie right?" He said.

"Yes that's right."

"We have a few questions about Jessie." Liam said.

"I'm sorry are you the police?" She asked and neither one of them answered. "That's what I thought." She said and stood up to leave.

"Please Melanie, this is important." Lana said.

"This is not the time or place to do this." She said and walked out, causing the four to follow her outside.

"It's the perfect place and time." She said.

"We found Jessie's diary. We know about her and you and the sorority house." Bethany said which made her stop in her tracks.

"I thought the police didn't find anything in her room." Melanie said.

"They didn't. We found it."

"Hmm." She chuckled.

"Listen I know it sounds bad but the police aren't doing anything about this. Jessie was murdered and they don't care. They haven't even found a murder weapon or where she was murdered. We need to know what happened to her, who would want to do this to her." Lana said.

"What do you need to know?"

"Jessie was writing in her diary even until the say she started working with you. But then on February 22 she wrote about a mystery guy who paid her a visit for the second time, she didn't mention his name. We think it might have something to do with it. Who was it?" Colton asked.

"Sorry, that's a confidentiality I can't break." She said which caused Liam to let out a laugh.

He quickly apologized and they resumed with the questions.

"She stopped writing on February 24. There's nothing written in it after that, don't you think it's a little suspicious?" Bethany asked.

"Look I don't know who's the guy who came back for her but I can check, but trust me, I don't think he has anything to do with Jessie's murder." Melanie said.

"Then who? Who would do this? And why?" Liam exclaimed.

"You guys really are clueless. You didn't bother to read the rest of that diary did you?!"

"There is no rest of the diary she stopped writing." Lana said.

"Or did she." She said making the four exchange looks. "April 27 Jessie came to me all panicked, gave me a file all wrapped up and asked me to keep it safe. I didn't bother to open it or see what it was until I heard she was dead. I opened it the next day I found out she was dead, it was a bunch of papers. They're the remaining of the diary."

"Did you read it?" Colton asked.

"Yeah."

"What was in it?" Lana asked.

"Jessie was pregnant."

***

"Pregnant pregnant?" Bethany asked as all of their mouths were left open after Melanie revealed the content of the file.

"How many types of pregnancy do you know? Yes pregnant pregnant." She replied sarcastically.

"Who's the father did she mention him?" Lana asked.

"She never mentioned his name, only one little detail you might find interesting." When none of them said anything she continued. "She wrote the father is someone she lived with."

Both girls turned their heads towards the guys with horrified expressions on their faces.

"It's not me." The guys both exclaimed in unison.

"I swear Beth it is not me." Liam said.

"Me either." Colton said looking at Lana.

"Then who was it?" Lana exclaimed.

"I don't know, but what I know is that it was a mistake." Melanie continued talking.

"No shit Sherlock! What kind of a 20 year old who's having financial problems and working as a prostitute would want to have a baby by their own will?!" Liam said in sarcasm.

"First, we're not prostitutes, we're escorts." Melanie corrected.

"Whatever helps you sleep at night."

"And I don't mean it was a mistake like they forgot to use protection kind of mistake, but more like Jessie was raped." She said.

***

"Maybe she's lying." Colton said as the four of them sat in their living room trying to process what Melanie had told them earlier on that day.

"No, I don't think so, why would she lie? Especially about something like that." Lana replied.

"I still can't believe she was pregnant." Bethany said running her hands through her hair.

"Yeah, how did the police miss that?" Liam asked.

The others all looked at him and realized what he said was true. If Jessie was pregnant how did the police didn't know about it. They did many tests before the burial. The autopsy would've shown it immediately.

"Maybe her body was too burnt to show any signs-" Bethany was saying when she got cut off by her boyfriend.

"No no, it doesn't make any sense, she still had some parts of her body that weren't burnt." Liam said.

"What if the person who killed her knew about the pregnancy and that's why they burned the body, to get rid of any evidence any signs, any DNA. That's why the police haven't even found a lead, there are no prints on the body all DNA is gone, they don't know where to look, there are no leads to even the place of the murder or a murder weapon." Lana analyzed.

"But even if so, it wouldn't destroy the evidence that she was pregnant." Colton said.

"She was what? A few weeks into the pregnancy? Maybe it's possible."

"So what you're saying is that Jessie was murdered because she was pregnant?" Bethany asked.

"That's exactly what I'm saying."

"Okay so if what you're saying is true, then it means the person who killed her is probably the father of the baby right? It's bound to be. Who else would kill a pregnant girl? He found out about the baby, realized he wasn't ready, maybe Jessie wanted the baby and the guy wanted to get rid of it, so he decided to kill her. Kill two birds with one stone right? That's the saying." Colton explained.

"Then we need to find who the father is." Bethany said looking between the two guys.

"Melanie said it was someone she lived with." Lana said looking at them as well.

"That's crazy! I would never rape someone, seriously it's not me!" Colton argued.

"Me neither! Beth baby you know me, I love you, it's not me, you guys have to believe us, we barely said two words to the girl." Liam said.

"Then who the fuck is it?!" Bethany raised her voice.

"She was raped by someone she lived with, then got pregnant, it means the person who raped her is probably the father. If he's capable of rape he's clearly capable of murder. If it's not Colton or Liam, then who?" Lana was saying while pacing around the living room.

"I think we're forgetting about the former resident of this house." Colton said which caused the three to look at him, eyes wide and filled with realization.

"Adam." Lana said taking a deep breath and staring at her friends in horror.
