Adalyn's POV

Monday came quickly and I was less then excited to be here. After everything that happened this weekend, I was just completely freaking out of my mind. I had yet to talk to Cara and Simon about the incident that went down at Allison's party, mostly because Cara had yet to tell me the details about how she felt about the situation. I was hoping that Simon was not planning to do what I think he was planning because I didn't know if I could find it in my heart to forgive him. But that wasn't the only thing jumping around my head.

Not only did I talk to Grayson this weekend, I fainted in front of him AND was carried to his house where I met Raymond and the rest of his family. I was almost ninety percent sure that I was going to die of embarrassment if I saw him today. I opened my locker and shoved everything inside before grabbing my Biology books. It was weird for my mornings to be this quiet considering my best friend was a freaking chatterbox, but sadly, she was no where in sight.

I turn on my phone checking if she had messaged me about being sick or something but again there was nada. I closed my locker, pulling on my lock to check if it was closed before I walked down the hall. As far as I could tell everything seemed normal, the usual loud teens gossiping as they walked to class, but something seemed off.

"There you are." I almost jumped when Cara pulled up beside me, "I meant to call you yesterday but I totally forgot. BUT I have MAJOR news!" I clutched my text book closer to my chest and sighed.

"Alright, shoot." She sucked in a huge breath before she began talking really fast.

"OkaysoIknowthatSimonwasacompletedickbutheapologizedandhegavemethepuppyeyessoIforgavehimdon'tbemad." I blinked a few times trying to compute the word vomit she just spilled on me.

"Could you say that again, only ten times slower?"

She sighed and started playing with her bracelet, which she did when she was nervous, "I talked to Simon on Saturday after you left at that cute little shop at the end of Brooks Street." I nodded waiting for her to continue. "Well I confronted him about what happened on Friday at Allison's party..."

"And?" I asked turning into Bio with her closely behind.

"Well he told me that he was trying to get me drunk... He said that a few of his guy friends paid him to get me smashed..." I slammed my book down at our lab bench and frowned at her.

"So let me guess? You forgave him." She nodded frowning.

"He used the puppy dog eyes! It's not fair!" This is unbelievable.

"Cara! You can't forgive him for being such a dick! I can't believe he would do something like that!" Cara stared at her books in front of her while playing with her charm bracelet.

"They paid him like fifty bucks or something." I angrily sat down and placed my hand on her arm. Fifty bucks should not justify getting one of your best friends intoxicated to the point of not being able to defend herself.

"Simon may not have wanted to take advantage of you but the guys who paid him obviously did." She turned her head and I could see the tears building in her eyes.

"I just wish guys would like me for me and not... And not only try to get in my pants." She wiped her cheek before she forced a laugh, "Goodness I'm pathetic! Anyway now that that's out of the way, I can tell you my actual major news. Michael wants to go on another date." I raised an eyebrow.

"The guy who likes to go on dates in the middle of the week?"

"Yeah that one." I raised my eyebrow at her. "Are you sure this guy isn't just trying to get into your pants? Why don't you just stay away from boys for a while and just be you. You don't need a guy." Her face contorted.

"And be lonely like- sorry."

"Just because I don't have a boyfriend doesn't mean I'm a lonely loser. You don't need a guy to be strong. Besides there is no guy in this entire world that is good enough for you." She rolled her eyes.

"Only you are good enough for me." I smirked wrapping my arms around her shoulders.

"And you know it." I said right before the teacher began his lesson.

I looked around the room to see Grayson hadn't made an appearance.

"Who are you looking for?" Cara whispered to me.

I shrugged, "Nobody, just got a weird feeling." She let the subject drop turning her attention back to the teacher. In all honesty I was worried about Cara, I didn't want her to get stuck in a situation that she couldn't escape from. No matter how hard I tried she would always avoid help because she thought it was a sign of weakness.

My thoughts were also controlled by another somebody that was a no show. I couldn't shake the events of last night. Meeting Grayson's family was shocking yes, but what was bothering me was the fact that I had fainted. I haven't fainted since I was in elementary school!

I couldn't grasp the explosion that went off in the lab. I mean Mr. Nicene got thrown across the room and Grayson had a panic attack, it was like he was choking. I shook my head copying down notes into my binder. I need to talk to him about it.

Grayson's POV

"Did you sleep at all?" asked Ray shining a flashlight into my eye. I shook my head while he switched it to the other eye.

"I dreamed about Amya again." I whispered quietly. Raymond frowned wrapping the blood pressure cuff around my arm.

"Your vitals are improving." He squeezed the pump quickly feeling the pressure increase over my arm, "Your blood pressure is a bit low." I nodded as he releases the air. He walked over to the microscope erring into it carefully. "Your body is fighting the substance in your blood. There's still traces of it pumping through your veins but it should leave your system soon." I groaned.

"Where am I going to stay until then? I don't want to put any of you at risk."

"I understand your frustration Grayson and I agree with you on trying to protect everyone but there isn't anywhere that you- wait what am I talking about? The warehouse!" He smiled patting my shoulder. "The warehouse is equipped to sustain you for training but is also a safe house if any of us get into trouble, or separated."

"So I have to hide out there alone until this power enhancing yet uncontrollable purple substance is gone from my system? What happens if I'm attacked again? What if no ones there to help me?" Raymond sighed taking his glasses off.

"We could get Diara to stay with you. Or Zahara." I placed my head into my hands and nodded. I paused before answering.

"Why not Declan- wait you're not trying to help me make a decision on my mate are you? RAY! For God's sake I don't need your help with that!" I jumped off the table my anger fuming through me. The last thing on my mind right now was which one of my sisters I was going to sleep with for gods sake.

"Grayson, calm down-"

"CALM DOWN?! CALM DOWN?!" The wind picked up making the papers stir around us. "Why can't you guys stop trying to influence my life? Try to change my life? No one makes decisions for me!" I turned around and stomped upstairs slamming the door open. Unfortunately my strength knocked it completely off its hinges. It fell to the floor with a slam echoing through the quiet house.

Using my super speed I ran to my room packing my bag quickly. I was so angry. Why was I so angry? He's just trying to help me.

'Grayson? Are you alright?' I heard Declan ask sensing my distress. '

I'm fine!' I shouted back putting up my walls to block them out. I ran out the front door not bothering to take a car.

I was there within minutes bursting through the front door. I was breathing heavily, sweat clinging to my body. I needed to hit something. I threw my bag to the ground before cracking my knuckles. I set up dummy's before blasting electricity at them. They exploded catching on fire, pieces flying everywhere.

I ripped off my shirt before attacking the obstacle course. I ran through jumping over hurdles, avoiding flying discs. By the time it was over I'm sure I should have collapsed but my body was still pumping with anger and adrenaline.

"I must say I'm enjoying the show." My head shot up to see Zahara biting into an apple, "Raymond sent me. But it's not like any of us couldn't find you."

I rolled my eyes grabbing a towel, wiping my face with it. "Your power is radiating all the way into town. You're causing power surges." My eyes widened.

"Seriously?" I asked.

"Seriously." She answered taking another bite. "You need to be careful Grey. You could expose us if people get curious."

I stepped closer to her catching her watching the muscles in my torso. I smirked making her looking up. "Like what you see?" I asked giving her a gun show.

"Oh shut up. Nobody wants to see those." She said laughing.

"You sure?" I asked flexing again. She nodded still laughing. Suddenly it was like the anger that I felt before faded away and my body decided it was finally exhausted. I was drained.

"I brought you some food." She opened her backpack and pulled out a container filled with cold pizza from dinner last night.

"Thanks." I plopped down on a bench close by and began devouring the pizza. She sat down beside me and crinkled her nose.

"You stink."

"It's called musk. It attracts the attention of females." I said wiggling my eyebrows.

"That Adalyn girl was looking for you at school." I froze mid bite looking over into her blue eyes. Naveen and Declan must actually be keeping an eye on her like I asked them to.

"Well she needs to stay away the hell away from me. All of them do. She's just some stupid human who thinks she can figure me out. God they are vile creatures. I can't believe I let one get so close to me." She was silent during my rant. She knew where I stood when it came to humans.

"They aren't that bad." I scoffed at her words.

"Aren't that bad? They killed Amya!" She flinched as I raised my voice.

"Not all of them are, some of them could accept us." I knew who she meant, Adalyn.

"Or they could be afraid of us and give us up to the people who actually do hate us." I put my container down and kneeled in front of Zahara's frowning face, "Zahara, we can't risk exposing ourselves. I can't lose any of you. I won't go through that again." She reached out and pressed the palm of her hand to my cheek. She rubbed her thumb across my cheekbone.

"You aren't going to lose us."

I reached up with my own hand laying it on top of hers. Something within me sparked and I could see she felt it too.

"What was that?" She asked dropping her hand away from me. My eyes scanned the room looking for the source. We both stood up walking towards the middle of the room. I walked in front of her keeping her behind me just in case we were attacked.

"Don't you think one of the others are nearby?" She asked whispering. I shook my head.

"Wouldn't they tell us they were coming?"

She shrugged, "I didn't tell you I was coming." She pointed out. She hesitated processing the amount of power we were feeling. "But this feels different."

I stepped back feeling her bump into the back of me.

"Oh Grayson, It's good to see you." I couldn't quite see the face of our intruder but the vibe they gave off wasn't powerful. Human.

"Who are you?" I asked hearing my voice bounce off the walls of the warehouse.

"Don't you remember me Grayson? It's been what? Nine-ten years now." I stepped back in surprise as his face came into view.

He was one of the scientists that wanted to experiment on us, use us as weapons. Zahara began trembling behind me as she began to recognize the man standing in front of him.

"How did you find us Doctor Carson?" I held an aggressive tone as I shielded Zahara behind my larger frame.

He smiled, "I have my sources. There's nowhere you can hide now Grayson. You might as well turn yourself on your family over." I looked towards the window and saw the shimmering. My eyebrows furrowed. I was dreaming?

"You aren't real." I said quietly.

"What was that?" He asked.

"You aren't real." I said much louder that time. He laughed.

"I'm pretty sure I'm real." I smirked.

"You are trying to use my own abilities against me. Who are you? Are you one of us?" I blurted out. Zahara was no longer standing behind me, proving to me that I was dreaming.

"You don't actually know where I am because I have my walls up. You are trying to pick through my brain." I laughed. "I have to say, you are powerful but not as powerful as me." I sighed sitting myself down on the white floor. He watched me carefully.

"And with me alive and my powers slowly returning I can protect the others, like I've done since we ran away from your little academy for the gifted." He folded his hands behind his back and took a few steps forward.

"You're right Grayson. We can't find you or your family because of your stupid little protection force fields. But that hasn't stopped us from finding you before. Even when you change your names we will always find you."

"And next time I'll be the one to find you." He froze going over my words, "I know you won't stop coming after us until you are all dead so I'm going to be the one to kill you." He composed himself and smiled.

"Good luck with that." I heard a new voice say. My head shot towards the other figure approaching. My throat dried the minute I saw her face.

"Amya?" I choked out. She gave me a dazzling smile throwing her ginger hair over her shoulder.

"It's good to see you Grayson. Have you liked my gifts?" She asked referring to the random attacks I've been experiencing.

"You? Why- why would you do that to me? To your own family?" She didn't bother answering my question.

"I have to say, you are strong. Stronger than me, but you don't have as much control as I do. That last hit you gave me left me unconscious." I clenched my jaw. I was so conflicted, so confused. Why was she helping these humans to hurt her own family? If she was really alive why did she not try to find us? Contact us? "But the royal blood pumping through your veins will be no match for us when I turn your family against you. The stars are falling Grayson, but they are much darker than you think."

"Grayson!" I shot awake gasping for air. Diara stood above me with a look of concern across her face. "What are you doing sleeping on the floor?" I pushed myself up to my feet only to wobble.

"Easy there, tiger. What happened?" What did happen? One minute I was training and the next I was on the floor.

"I must of worked myself so hard I collapsed." I ran a hand through my greasy hair and exhaled roughly.

Why did I pass out? I mean I felt drained, barely any power left in me. There was something else that I couldn't quite put my finger on.

"You need to be careful. You could seriously harm yourself working so hard." I shrugged her off not wanting to talk about it anymore.

Zahara had tears streaming down her face as Naveen helped her to her feet, "Zahara, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you."

She nodded. 'It's alright' she told me letting Naveen carry her out to the car.

I plopped myself onto a bench and placed my head in my hands. The dream world suddenly flashed before my eyes. My head shot up making eye contact with Diara. Part of me wished that it was just some fucked up dream I had managed to come up with, but I knew the truth.

"What is it Gray?"

"She's alive," I said is disbelief, "and she's helping them."

Adalyn's POV

Stepping through my front door I saw my mother sitting at the kitchen table deep into her paperwork. She looked up smiling taking off her glasses. We both paused as the lights overhead flickered slightly.

"Don't mind that," she said, "it's been doing that all afternoon."

I opened the fridge while she poured herself a glass of wine. "Got anything to tell me?" She asked, "like someone losing a job?"

Shit.

"Don't freak out, but the pool is closing and they are letting people go. I just happened to be one of the first few." She just nodded and proceeded back to the table.

"Well I suggest you give your father a call. Maybe you can work with him."

"At the aquarium?" She nodded again and took a sip from her glass.

"Yeah I could do that. But it's almost winter, isn't it closing in like a month?"

"There's probably other jobs you could do for him. He misses you." Well he's the one who went off to another town and married someone else.

"I'll call him." Or not.

I walked up to my room placing my backpack on the floor. Grayson came to mind again as the power up above shut out completely.

"I'm gonna go check the breakers!" My mom shouted from down stairs.

I sighed reaching for my phone dialling Cara.

"Your power out too?" She asked when she picked up.

"Yeah, apparently it's being flickering all over town. It wasn't just the school."

"Well the Wonder Family just returned carrying Grayson." She said over the phone. From the shuffling I could guess she had pulled the curtains from the window.

"Carrying him?"

"Yeah, legit. He looks pretty beaten up." The visual of Grayson beaten up made my stomach fall. He seemed to be someone who attracted a lot of bad luck. I frowned. What happened to him? The sudden urge to see him washed over me.

"I have to go. Mom's yelling at me about the breakers." She wasn't but it was the only way to get her to not question my sudden disconnect.

I grabbed a sweater and my running shoes and padded my way down the stairs. I needed to see him.

Honestly, I didn't know why.

Grayson's POV

"RAY!" Diara screamed as we walked through the front door. I felt nauseous, barely holding my eyes open as the set me on the table in the lab.

"How long has he been like this?" His voice sounding so distorted and distant.

"He told me that he saw Amya, then he stood up to head home and he crumbled." Diara spoke, "He shot out a force field and the power just cut out. Apparently across the whole town! He's been in cold sweats ever since."

A blurry version of Titus walked towards me to place his hand on my head. I could feel my body reject his healing. Slamming my jaw shut as my muscles tensed through my whole body.

"TITUS! YOU'RE HURTING HIM!" Diara screamed. The pain subsided as my muscles slowly relaxed. My body felt hot, like my insides were slowly cooking.

"Ray, that girl is at the door." Naveen interjected.

"Get rid of her." Diara spit.

"No." I groaned out. All blurry faces turned to me. I could feel all of the confusion fill the room as Naveen left to get her.

Her feelings of worry hit me first before full on panic.

"Is he okay?" her small voice asked. I reached a weak and shaking hand towards her blurred figure. Feeling her petite fingers lace with mine I closed my eyes and relaxed.

"Powers back on!" Beth yelled down.

"He's alright. Just caught some bug." Ray comforted.

"Why are you here?" Diara's jealousy coursed through the room as she verbally attacked Adalyn.

"I-I can't really explain it. I just felt drawn here." She said quietly. I heard Diara scoff before her stomps echoed off the steps.

"Let's give then some space." Ray whispered to the others before they all retreated upstairs. I forced my eyes open to see
