Grayson's POV

My alarm clock scared the living shit out of me, especially when it decided to break apart. I groaned and laid back down on my stupid mattress. Naveen came in with a look of concern stitched across his face. "Dude? You okay?" I threw my arm over my eyes and nodded.

I could sense his worry as he hesitated to turn and close the door. It wasn't helpful that stupid human filled my dreams last night. I didn't even get to study for that test today. I could just go to school on Monday and skip today. I sighed and pulled back the covers.

Gosh I need to brush my teeth. Within seconds my tooth brush whipped in my direction. If I didn't catch it, it probably would have went through my head. So now brushing my teeth has become dangerous, great.

I quickly got changed without my clothes trying to strangle me and headed down stairs where the others were at the table eating muffins that Beth obviously made for breakfast. Diara's eyes shot to mine before she offered me a muffin. I took it breaking off a little piece from it.

'You okay?' She asked with concern written all over her face. I nodded taking another chunk from my chocolate chip muffin.

'My abilities are a little whacky today. My toothbrush tried to murder me.' She snorted making everyone's head whip to us. 'My abilities have been a little wonky since I was shot.' Her eyebrows furrowed.

"It would be nice if you would let everyone else hear the conversation you guys are having." Beth muttered reading the paper. She found it very frustrating sometimes when we talked to each other through telepathy instead of verbally.

'Well I could feel your power from across the street this morning. It's like you're getting stronger.' It was my turn to be confused. Each of us can sense each other while we are using our abilities, it attracts our kind together. To build strength in numbers and of course, to find the perfect mate. It was strange to think my power was radiating across the street just because of a tooth brush, a very, very angry tooth brush.

"Okay well you should probably get going." Raymond said looking up over his newspaper. Diara scrunched her nose up.

"I don't know what he's thinking." I held my hands up.

"I believe you." Beth threw two apples in our direction. Diara caught hers no problem but mine decided to whip straight back to Beth, like a freaking curve ball. Beth ducked with a screech while the apple exploded against the cupboards. Fuck me.

"Grayson!" Raymond yelled rushing to Beth's side.

'Dude what the hell?' Naveen said looking directly at me. Titus aided Beth to her feet asking her if she was hurt. She shook her head.

"Beth I'm sorry, I-I didn't mean to do that." Raymond shot me a glare.

"Go." It was like a huge bucket of ice water had been dumped over my head. "Just go." Raymond said quietly.

"Ray I don't think it's a good idea for him to go to school with his abilities being- well crazier then usual." Diara said touching my arm softly.

"JUST GET OUT OF MY SIGHT!! You screwed my life up the day I found you." Diara's grip tightened.

"Come on guys lets go." Diara guided me out the door and turned to stand in front of me, "He didn't mean that... He's just protective of her and you know that. But I still don't think you should go to school." She said softly.

"Especially when your eyes are glowing like a glow stick on crack." Naveen pointed out. I closed my eyes tightly and exhaled. I opened my eyes and Diara gave me a soft smile.

"Better." She was trying to be comforting and supportive. My nerves were too on edge for her to be any help to me. I nodded and crawled into the driver seat of the van.

The drive to school was eerily quiet, which was not like them at all. I guess they were all expecting me to freak out and lose control of the vehicle. I exhaled in frustration, gripping the steering wheel so tight my knuckles turned white. Diara put her hand on my thigh and squeezed it once.

'Breathe, everything will be okay when we get home after school.' She said quietly past my wall. We pulled into the parking lot and everyone climbed out catching the attention of the humans.

'Why do they always stare?' Declan asked obviously annoyed.

'We're just sexy.' Naveen said wiggling his eyebrows.

"Well, let the torture begin." I said out loud before we entered through the door.

"I'll see you later losers." Zahara said parting ways to her locker. I could tell Titus was a little overwhelmed by the amount of people inside this tiny building. I squeezed his shoulder. "You'll be okay." He nodded.

"I just feel bad for Kavita, she has to go to elementary by herself." Titus was deeply connected to her, in ways I could never understand. They were too young to remember everything that happened at the Midnight Experiment. Poor Kavita was the youngest of us all at thirteen. She was in the human's grade eight by herself and at totally different school. It bothered me to have her so far away from my protection.

"She's tough, she'll be fine." I squeezed his shoulder again before he took down the hall with his locker.

"Grayson!" I turned around to see Cara running towards me with her flowing blonde hair behind her, "Hi, I was wondering when you were going to get here. You ready for this Bio test?" I nodded not bothering to speak. I turned around and continued to walk down the hall. Cara pulled up beside me and frowned.

"Sorry about people staring at you. You're like the new shiny toy, it'll blow over in a few weeks." I knew that she was trying to be nice, as one would do for a new student. I nodded not really listening.

"Cara!" I turned around to see that dark haired boy from last night towards us. "I haven't found Addy anywhere... She's avoiding us." I rolled my eyes. Human drama.

"Simon... I-I..." Cara bit her lip and my curiosity took over.

"What happened?" I asked catching Simon off guard. He wasn't expecting me to show any interest. It's like he finally noticed I was here to be completely honest. He was intimidated by me because he straightened his back and puffed up his chest. I raised an eyebrow at him, was he really going to try and mount up to me?

I towered over him by a couple inches but that didn't seem to stop him.

"Um it's not really a thing I want to talk about." Cara told me while Simon and I were locked in a staring contest. Why if he so offensive? I poked around in his brain to find that he liked Cara and was completely terrified of me. No wonder I smelled testosterone. I smirked and threw my arm over Cara's shoulders to tick him off.

Cara squirmed underneath my touch with a blush covering her cheeks. Simon was practically blowing steam out his ears. I wanted to see if I could push him to the edge.

"Cara was just about to take me to Biology class. Right Cara?" She shivered and pressed her body to my side.

"We should probably grab your books." Simon rolled his eyes and shoved his hands in his pockets before storming off. I chuckled.

Cara looked at me confused, "Your boyfriend is easily ticked off." I said as we continued down the hall, stopping in front of my new locker. I reached for the lock but it unlocked without me even touching it. I turned to see if she had noticed, but she was too busy looking down the hall after Simon.

"He's not my boyfriend... Well it's not really official." I rolled my eyes again pulling out my books. I shut my locker and Cara began blabbing about everything and nothing.

We arrived to class as she told me about how swimming was a big sport here. "Isn't this Canada? I thought hockey was a big thing." it was important to interject a comment every now and again to make a human believe you were listening to them.

She smiled, "Very true, the hockey team is pretty good but swimming and cross country are our... I don't know... Most cheered for sports." I was about to walk into class but she stopped me.

"Do you want to sit with us at lunch? I mean if you have no one else to sit with?" I shook my head.

"No." She looked shocked as I pushed past her.

"Mr. Nicene, nice to meet you." He held out his hand and I took it to look 'normal'. I hated touching humans because our skin acted weird with theirs. I could feel his emotion's with a single touch. I could feel how tired he was based on how he felt. It was different for all of us, we just avoided all contact all together.

It made my thoughts snap to Adalyn when she fell on top of me. I felt embarrassement, fear and something else...

"Grayson?" I shook my head, coming back to reality.

"Sorry what was that?" He chuckled handing me a textbook.

"You take a seat beside Allison in the middle row." I nodded and looked at the girl he was pointing to. I nodded and took a seat beside her.

She shot me a glance before she blushed. She turned her head towards me a gave me a smile. "New guy eh?" I nodded as she pursed her lips, "Knew it, you have that new guy smell." I raised an eyebrow making her laugh.

"It was a joke. I'm Allison by the way, your lab partner. I don't know about you but I'm excited to dissect baby pigs."

"Grayson, and I'm not looking forward to anything in this class or school. Plus, I thought we had a test today?" she looked over my features to determine whether I was joking or not. My face probably read that I was not.

"I think you just spoke the minds of everyone in the school." I nodded with a laugh that I didn't mean to let out. "That's better, you look better when you smile. And we do have a test today, dissecting pigs is next week."

Adalyn came strolling in swallowing when she saw Cara. She did run out of her house last night, crying I might add. I thought it may have to do with the Simon kid. She pushed her hair behind her ear and sat down beside the gloomy blonde.

"Adalyn-" she shook her head.

"Cara, I'm okay. Look let's just forget about it and move on to important things like the party tonight." Adalyn looked upset as she stared forward.

"I understand if you don't want to go tonight." Cara was clearly guilty. It was all over her features, or at least from the side profile I could witness.

Adalyn gave her a fake smile, "Of course I want to go with you. And today you are buying me lunch as an apology."

I could feel Allison's eyes scanning my face as I eavesdropped on their conversation, but she didn't question my intentions.

Cara nodded, "Done." Adalyn smiled for real this time and accepted Cara's hug before the teacher began passing out the test papers... kill me now.

"This cafeteria food is disgusting." Diara stated pushing it away. Declan agreed pushing it away from him. Naveen smiled and took Declan's food into his own tray. Gross. He was honestly a bottomless pit.

"How are you feeling?" Diara asked bumping my shoulder, "You haven't touched your food." I raised an eyebrow, as she was clearly being a hypocrite.

"Okay I didn't either but still at least I tried it." I took my fork and shoved it into my mouth to make her happy.

"It tastes like cardboard." I commented.

"Right!" She exclaimed throwing her hands over her head. I chuckled shoving it towards Naveen. "No out bursts?" I shook my head at her question. I knew she was just looking out for me. I wished she would just chill out for once.

"My locker lock did open on its own this morning but other than that, no." She exhaled relieved.

"Okay good. I was worried. You haven't been that bad with your abilities since you were eight." I nodded. Right after we had lost Amya, the lack of sleep and grief had made things a little hard. So hard, that I was have serges of energy that would cause outbursts such as a murderous tooth brush and break vases. The last time would have been around fourteen, with puberty. As a normal human teenager it was probably bad enough, add powers into the mix and it's a whole new animal.

"I'm blaming whatever was in that stupid bullet." I said rubbing my scar subconsciously. I had noticed that this morning it had purple veins surround the scar, like an infection.

"Hey Grayson," I looked over my shoulder to see Allison who was carrying her tray.

"Hey?" I said back while she gave me smile. What the fuck did she think she was doing?

"There's a party tonight at James' place. You guys are more than welcome to come. It's at 235 boulevard. You won't miss it." I scratched my head while the others stared at me.

"Um, we might be able to make it. We'll see." I spit out. She smiled politely, excited that I hadn't exactly said no.

"Alright cool, I might see you later then." I nodded and watched her walk two tables over to sit with her friends.

I turn back around and everyone was shocked. "What? Do you really think I'm actually thinking about going?" I said rolling my eyes. "Yeah, no thanks."

Zahara shrugged. "It could be fun."

Declan shook his head. 'Yeah no.' Declan was never really up for socialization.

"I agree with Declan, none of us are going that's final. We have training tonight." I snapped curling my fists tightly. I had no idea why they were so enthusiastic about hanging around the disgusting creatures.

POP! I shot around hearing people scream as the nacho cheese machine cracked, spilling all over the floor. I knew right away that I had done it from the relieving feeling that spread through my body from the power leaving my body.

"Grayson!" Diara shouted. They all looked at me with concern, knowing that I had no control.

"I-I'm sorry..." I exhaled roughly and buried my face in my folded arms. Maybe I should go home for the day. But then I remembered what Raymond had said and I knew I couldn't go home either.

Adalyn's POV

Cara grabbed my hand and pulled me to the cafe in an over excited manor.

"I promised lunch so we might as well stay in here."

My nose scrunched up, "Since when have you wanted to ever eat in the cafe?" She shook her head shooting me a smile. When we entered the cafe my attention shot to Grayson at a table and I rolled my eyes.

He was with his brothers and the girls I had learned from Cara lived across the street from them. It was a little strange that they seemed so close. The girls lived with another popular scientist, Beth Runningham who was a close confidant to Dr. Nicene. It still seemed strange though that they relocated together.

"This has nothing to do with tall, dark and handsome does it?" I asked shooting her a look. She blushed.

"I didn't know if he would even be here. Besides I came here to get you apology food. Now come on!" She said tugging my hand. We pulled up in line and Cara began blabbing about the biology test but my attention was elsewhere.

On a certain Allison Morgan talking to Grayson. His friends and brothers seemed shocked by the fact that Grayson was talking to her. Allison was pretty and I mean really pretty, but Grayson was just eyeing her like she was crazy.

"Do you think that Grayson is going to the party tonight? I mean considering Allison just invited him to come." Cara asked bringing my attention to her.

I shrugged, "Maybe, I don't know though." Allison walked to her table with a huge smile on her face like she had just won the freaking olympics.

I watched the muscles in Grayson's tense beneath his shirt before I heard a huge crack. Nacho cheese splashed onto Cara and I making us screech. It was hot, burning my skin hot. Cara was having the same affect as she tried to wipe it off quickly. It was all down my back and in my hair. I ran my hands down my face so I could see again.

"Grayson!" Diara shouted smacking him in the arm. People stared at the few people in line that had been covered before everyone laughed. I blushed and turned to Cara.

"I'm never eating in the cafe again." I nodded in agreement with her. A few teacher had rushed over helping us get most of the burning hot cheese off before we were all asked to go to the main office. I tried running my fingers through my hair with no success.

"Ugh! I'm gonna smell like nacho cheese for the rest of the day!" Cara said with a groan. My clothes were sticking to me and I wanted to vomit from the smell of processed nacho cheese.

"Can anyone tell me what happened?" The principle asked after coming out of his office.

"The nacho cheese machiney thingy broke and we were just covered with cheese." Everyone nodded in agreement to Tamara's statement making the principle frown. She had been standing in line in front of us and had received the blunt end of the situation. Her skin was red on her face from the temperature of the cheese.

"Do you all have someone you can call to bring you clothes?" He asked rubbing the back of his neck. My mom was working today so I was screwed.

Cara frowned, "My mom and dad are away today..." Her parents always seemed to be off on some fancy get away these days.

I sighed. "Mine too." We both slouched into our chairs at the same time.

"What a crappy day." Cara mumbled.

"Couldn't have said it better myself."

Cara and I left the office miserable considering we had to continue the day with sticky clothes and of course smelling like nachos, but we weren't the only ones who had to suffer.

"Why wouldn't they just send us home?" Cara asked as we reached my locker.

"That would be too easy. The one day I don't bring extra clothes..."

"Adalyn!"

I squeaked. "I'm not ready to talk to Simon yet." I whispered.

"Go, I've got you covered." I slammed my locker shut and took off running.

"Addy! Wait!!" I didn't wait I just ran. Ran down the next hall and took a sharp left. And ran, straight into someone's chest.

"Adalyn?" I looked up to see Grayson's intense blue eyes.

"I'm sorry, we really need to stop meeting like this." He chuckled before he wrinkled up his nose. I pushed myself off of him and stood to my feet glancing over my shoulder to check if Simon was still running after me.

"You stink." of all the times I wished that I smelled like a snack, this is not what I had meant.

I gave him a 'no shit' look, "I know, I'm smell like nacho cheese. The machine completely exploded while I was standing in line." I said with a laugh but his face fell. He swallowed and ran a hand through his hair.

"I have a sweater in my locker if you want to borrow it. It's better than nacho cheese." I nodded that would be really helpful. He walked me to his locker the minute Simon rounded the corner.

"Crap!" His eyes widened at my sudden outburst.

"What?" I turned back to look into his intense stare.

"Simons trying to hunt me down but I don't want to talk to him." He handed me the sweater and I smiled. "Thanks, I'll give it back to you later. I have to go."

"Adalyn!" I handed it back to him and a look of confusion crossed his but I grabbed the end of my shirt and pulled it over my head. I threw it to the floor and took his sweater. His eyes were all over me before I pulled his sweater over my head.

"Adalyn! Don't you even try to run away!" He swallowed slowly as I pulled my hair out of the collar and put it up into a ponytail. I was going to have to try and rinse it out later.

"I have to go, could you throw that shirt out for me? Thanks, bye." With that I took off running. He must think I am a total whack job.
