"Kristine."

In all my life, I've never heard a voice this low. It was deep, quite husky and had a strong Italian accent. He had short, wavy brown hair, sad blue eyes and defined cheekbones. An Italian beauty to be specific.ย

"I was wondering if I'll see you again", I said - staring into his eyes. He had those sad eyes which urge you to hug him and never let him go.ย

"We only met last night, you'll have the rest of the school year to see me walking around these halls. Or did you already miss me after less than 24 hours?" He smirked.

"Aren't you the one who stopped me walking? If anything, you missed me", I answered simply. We were both having an eye staring contest and both had a straight face on.

"Last night in the garden, thank you", I said to him.

"Why would you thank me?", he asked, now leaning his side against the wall in the hallway. Hands stuffed in his coat pocket as he stared and waited for my answer.ย

I walked towards him and leaned my side against the wall too, facing him. Slowly, I laid the side of my head on the wall, my eyes never leaving his.

"For not leaving me alone when I was broken", I replied. It came out almost like a whisper, but he was close enough to hear it.ย

He didn't say anything. He blinked, slowly, and his eyebrows furrowed. He was trying to read me, but that wasn't possible. Not entirely.

"How could you be broken, Kristine La Cartier?", he asked softly.ย

I know right . . . How could I?

I lifted my head off the wall and leaned my face towards his, but not too close. "I could be and you wouldn't know it", I answered before sidestepping him and walking away.

You could call it a gift, but I knew when someone was just as damaged as I was.ย

He was.ย

"Wow." That was the first word that came from my mouth once I entered the Platinum lounge room.ย

It was way more modern than my expectations. The entire building and this room looked like two different places. I walked towards the middle of the room, slowly, turning 360 to take in the modern grey interior.

"Is this even part of the building?", I muttered.ย

For a lounge room, this was really big. A flat-screen TV, multiple grey couches, a modern fireplace andย  ceiling-high bookshelves. It even had its own mini kitchen. Not for cooking of course. There was a marble counter with a sink built into it. Few pristine cabinets and a large pantry. I opened the pantry and it was full of various different snacks.ย

So this is why it's called the Platinum lounge room. Literally. On the lounge entrance door, the word Platinum was engraved on a platinum metal plate.ย

I continued looking around the room until I got bored.ย

Great. Well, now what?

โ‡โ‡โ‡

Honestly, there were many things to do here. But I didn't feel like doing them. So, here I am laying on my room bed staring at the ceiling. As usual, I had air pods in my ears.ย

"I've found peace in your violence. Can't tell me there's no point in trying. I'm at one, and I've been silent for so long", I knew the lyrics to a lot of songs. I sang to Silence by Marshmello ft Khalid.ย

I can listen to music for hours, just sing along to it and never get tired. Music was my escape from the world. The moment I plug in my air pods, earphones or headphones, I get pulled away from reality.

There were so many dangerous things going on in my life. I have the excitement, feel the thrill and take part in lots of action. But while doing so, I never felt free. Like I was screaming, but was screaming into a scream jar. Falling, but with a rope tied around my neck.ย

Why is it that I always felt like something was missing in my life?

Knock knock

I sighed heavily and unplugged my air pods before pushing myself off the comfort of the bed. Walking towards the door, while pushing my hair back with my fingers, I had no idea how long I was laying down for. I could have taken a nap, but I don't take naps. Like never. For some reason, I just can't.ย

Looking through the peephole, I saw my sisters. I opened the door.

"Dinner time", Tamara told with her arms crossed while leaning against the door frame.ย

"Wait what?", I asked confused. What time is it?

"It's already 6:50 pm. So, let's go down to the dining hall. I'm famished", Sophia said.

"Umm . . .yeah alright", I said tiredly. I didn't actually feel like leaving my room, but it was only my second dinner here, I should go.

Hastily, I walked back into my room to grab my key card and phone.ย

โ‡โ‡โ‡

"On Wednesday, I have to pick up some things in the city. I'll be gone for maybe an hour or two, after classes", Sophia told while digging into her ground beef shepherd's pie.ย

"May I tag along?", I asked Sophia while staring at my food.ย

"Sure."

While I was eating, I couldn't help but look around the dining hall. I noticed how Luca was never here during meal times. Was I curious? Shouldn't be. But maybe I was.ย

It's always the mysterious ones who are interesting. Not always but they are.ย

"Earth to Kristine." I felt somebody place their hand on my shoulder.

"Hm?"

"You alright?", Tamara asked. Sophia was now looking at me as well.ย

"Yeah fine. Why?", I said before continuing my meal.ย

"You were staring off at the wall there. You zoned out, again." Tamara chuckled.

"That's me", I said as I gave a small tight lip smile.ย

Tamara re-focused on her meal. Sophia proceeded to stare at me, her eyes narrowed. I mouthed I'm fine and she didn't really believe it but just nodded anyways.ย

"So what are we looking forward to tomorrow?", Sophia asked after we finished our meals.

"Textbooks and a shit tone of homework", Tamara sarcastically replied.ย

"I look forward to the same thing!", I squealed just as sarcastic.

"I know right?! So exciting!", Tamara continued. We both high fived and giggled inaudibly after.

Sophia just rolled her eyes.ย

"What are you looking forward to sis?", I asked Sophia.

"Math", she stated.ย

Tamara faked a gag and I elbowed her.ย

"It's good if at least one of us passes math", I said. The three of us chuckled.ย

That, however, was entirely untrue. All three of us are good at math. Tamara denies that she knows a single thing in math, I just say it's not my top subject and Sophia embraces that she is better at math out of us three.ย

"I heard they have horse stables here. We should go check it out sometime soon", Tamara suggested excitedly.

"That'd be nice", I agreed. Sophia nodded her head.

We three loved horse riding. Tamara loved it more though. We had a California house and Tamara was always at her happiest there. It was her birthplace. Tamara was our fully American sister born in Los Angeles. Sophia was Colombian - and American, born in Florida.ย

I was different.ย

Dessert was served 10 minutes later. I always saved room for dessert. Today the dessert was a Fruit Ice Cream Sundae. The fruits were refreshing after eating Shepherds Pie. My sisters and I were enjoying our dessert while talking about random things.ย

"The table in front of us has been staring for the past 5 minutes." Sophia gestured to the table in front of us.

I didn't bother to look up until Tamara spoke.ย

"Of course they are. We're enjoying our dessert but they're refusing to eat theirs."

That's when I looked up.ย

The 12 girls sat at a table in front of us with their untouched dessert, beginning to melt in front of them. Half of the table looked away when I looked and the other half continued to stare at us. The three of us just glanced at each other, before saying at the same time.

"Calories."

Sophia texted me while I was in the middle of reading. I lay on my bed with my back against the headboard - blanket up to the waist. I placed my phone on the bedside table and read one last poem before sleeping.
