This chapter is only dedicated to those who have consistently supported me at my lowest and at my highest. To those...
Thank you.
VVITICUS

All there's left to do is do what I do best.

I summon a weapon.

And while Selene is busy pushing her dagger deeper into me, she doesn't see when the knife appears in my hand.

And when I stab the dagger into her side, her eyes widen as she looks down at the moonstone-encrusted dagger in disbelief.

"Must have summoned the wrong knife the first time," I pant, kicking her off of me and sending her dagger clattering to the side. "Hate it when that happens."

She looks across the room at the replica dagger that I was fighting her with the whole time. If she had gotten cut with it, then she would have been able to tell that it was a fake when it wouldn't have hurt her that badly.

I pull out the dagger, but she still groans in pain. "After seeing all of my fights, then you should have known that I never would go down without getting a few slashes in first. Killian is going to be so mad when I tell him that my idiotic plan worked. He owes me $200."

The goddess looks at me in pure fear.

She's right to be scared of me.

Golden light begins to radiate from the knife in my hand, until my vision is completely taken over with a bright white light.

When I can see again, I see Helios leaning over Selene, his mouth set in a hard line. "Hello, sister."

Selene cries as Helios takes out his own dagger, a solid gold one with sunstones decorating the hilt. "Helios, please. You're my brother, we can work this out."

Helios snorts, and all he says is, "Goodbye, sister."

And he stabs her in the neck with the dagger. After a swirl of golden light, she disappears, forever trapped in his dagger.

I pull Selene's knife out of my stomach and toss it to the side. "A little bit of godly healing would be nice," I say to Helios, feeling lightheaded from the blood loss. She hit almost every single vital organ.

Helios looks at me, proudness radiating in his gaze. "Of course, Sun-Freer."

He puts a warm, glowing hand on my stomach, and I exhale in relief as the pain immediately stops as my wounds heal, good as new. He reaches for my eye, but I stop him.

I would live without an eye for the rest of my life. A memory of all of those I have lost, a permanent reminder of everything I had to go through to get to this moment. My penance.

Helios seems to understand, or at least doesn't ask questions when I rip what's left of my torn eyeball out of my eye. It hurts, but so does everything.

Helios cringes as I toss the bloody eyeball to the side and rise to my feet. "Never have I seen a mortal so brutal," He mutters under his breath. "I'll get Killian so we can talk."

I look at him in confusion, and he elaborates. "Now that my power has been restored, I can keep the portal open for a little bit longer. I would like to speak to the wolf before you return to your world."

He goes to the portal, and calls out to Killian, telling him it's safe to leave the portal. Killian steps through, and his eyes immediately search to me. He exhales in relief before rushing over to me and pulling me in for a hug, surprising me.

"Thank you," He whispers, and I know he means for avenging his mate.

"Thank you, indeed, Sun-Freer," Helios says, standing a few feet away from us. "Your bravery has restored balance, and light has prevailed."

"I don't give a shit about that," I sneer. "Are you holding up your end of the bargain?"

Helios sighs. "Yes, Sun-Freer. I have given your fertility back."

"It was never yours to take," I say lowly.

"I did what I had to do," He shrugs. "Don't worry, you and Cain of Blood Lake will have many pups and live a long, healthy life."

"You said that Thane and I were meant to be together," I say, trying to keep my voice steady. "You said that there was no other option, that the stars would not allow any other outcome."

Helios' eyes narrow. "The Oracle messed with fate. The stars are not pleased with her. One day, the time will come when she will pay."

"What do you mean?" Killian snarls.

Helios smiles at Killian sadly. "Balance, young wolf. Every action has its consequences. Do not worry, she knew the risks. All oracles do."

Killian's eyes narrow into slits, but the Sun God changes the topic.

"For your bravery, for your victory, I am willing to offer what few mortals have been offered before you," Helios begins. "Both of you will be granted immortality. Spend the rest of your days in the Palace of the Gods."

"Gods?" Killian repeats.

Helios nods, a generous smile spreading across his face. "Killian, God of the Travelers, Master of the Universes." He turns to look at me. "Ares, God of War has a nice ring to it. I can't think of a better person."

Killian blanches.

"No," I say instantly. "No, I want to live as a mortal with Cain. I will not part with him, not even for immortality."

Plus, I couldn't think of anything worse than having to live forever.

Helios sighs. "Disappointing, but not unexpected." He looks at Killian. "What about you, Ultimum Viatorum? I know you crave power above all."

Killian's eyes turn sad, and he suddenly looks much older than he really is. "The girl," He says quietly. "Was she really my mate?"

Helios looks at him in despair. "Yes, my son. Naomi was your True Mate, both in wolf and human spirit. I am so sorry Selene did that to you. To you and Naomi."

"Naomi," Killian says, his voice cracking. "I didn't even know her name."

Helios stares at Killian expectantly, waiting for an answer.

"No," Killian finally answers hesitantly. "No. I have more to do on earth."

Helios sighs. "Mortals. I will never understand you."

Good. I never wanted to have anything in common with these god bastards.

'Wait," I say suddenly. "If we don't accept immortality, can we take something else?"

Helios looks at me sadly. "I can not bring back either of your mates," He says, guessing what I was going to ask for. "Not even I have control over death." For some reason, a dark shadow falls over his face.

His eyes soften at my heartbroken face. "Do not worry, my children. Both Thane and Naomi have crossed over to the other side and are enjoying a peaceful afterlife. They know happiness and abundance there."

"I died," I hiss. "And there was only darkness. Do not dare to lie to me about the afterlife."

Helios shakes his head. "You were in the in between. The stars knew that it was not your time to go. When it is, you go to the better place."

Helios pauses and looks to the portal. "You both should start your travels. I cannot keep the portal open much longer, you must return back to your home."

Killian and I walk over to the portal, but I pause.

"Do you have any remorse?" I ask Helios, who raises his eyebrows. "For creating creatures only to manipulate and control their lives for your own amusement?"

Helios shrugs. "It is what gods do. Otherwise, immortality is painfully boring."

I look at him in confusion.

"What, you didn't think werewolves are the only supernatural creatures we created, did you?" Helios cocks his head to the side.

Another problem for another day.

I'm about to step through the portal when Helios coughs. "The moonstone dagger, Ares?" He holds his hand out expectantly.

I look down at Helios' dagger. The dagger that had caused so much pain and suffering because the gods cause pain and suffering.

I hate Helios just as much as I hate Selene.

"No," I say darkly, and my grip tightens. Helios' eyes widen. "You have ruined many lives all for your own entertainment. This knife was always meant to belong to a descendant of Lucille, and it always will. If you ever interfere with any wolf's life for your own amusement, then me, my children, or my children's children will be ready to wield this blade against you and send you back. Blood Lake will never forget who we lost."

Helios bellows in rage and lunges, but Killian pulls me through the portal and closes it.

"You just threatened a god," Killian laughs as we traverse between the dimensions. "Sometimes I think you have a death wish."

I smile at him. "Take us back, Killian."

It's time for me to be reunited with my mate.
