Be strong in the moments where you want to be weak because life itself is worth living for. If you're not living the life that you want, then fight for that life.❞

Nate held his gaze onto the window like glue. His eyes never left his brother's. It was unbelievable to think that he had a brother. Did anyone know about him having one?

Nate approached the window and stood there watching him. His brother breathed fog onto the window and gave Nate a questioning look. Nate opened the window and blocked off his brother from entering.

"Little brother," Nate's brother taunted. "It's freezing out here so why don't you be a good little brother and let me in."

"Mongrels aren't allowed," Nate responded.

His brother placed his hand on his heart solemnly. "Brrr. That was cold Nathaniel. Colder than the air out here."

"My name isn't Nathaniel," Nate said lowly.

"It isn't?" His brother cocked his head to the side and furrowed his eyebrows. "Because I distinctly remember when our father na-"

Nate took him by the collar and dragged him inside, throwing him on the floor. He skidded along the floor and stopped himself by placing his hands down the floor. His brother jumped up and brushed his clothes off. He grinned and exclaimed. "Woo! One point for Nolan! Knew it would work!"

"How did you get passed the guards?" Nate approached his brother. They were at the same height. Both the six foot four imitating height.

"Oh, right," Nolan folded his lips then sighed. "Your guards suck. There, I said it. They could use some training little brother."

Nate ignored this. "Weren't you banished from this territory by the Council?" Nate questioned. Nolan replied with a quick nod. "Oh, I was. Until they un-banished me. Cool, right?"

Nate sighed. Is this what he was talking about the Council? Nolan's eyes rested on me, finally acknowledging my presence. A chill went through me like an icy cold wind. He approached me and stood over me. Nolan looked down at me with a concentrated look. Suddenly a smile flickered on his face like a sudden ray of sunshine on a cloudy day.

"Alix, wow," he revealed straight white teeth. "You really aren't a little girl anymore. Wow. Did I say wow already?"

I furrowed my eyebrows at him. He raised his eyebrows and looked at Nate. Nolan pointed his finger at me. "She doesn't remember me, does she?"

"She's lucky if she doesn't remember you," Nate responded sharply.

"I'm guessing her memories aren't back yet?" He questioned more. Nate nodded in response.

He turned back to me, his eyes boring into my neck like a needle in cloth. Dazed, he blinked and turned to Nate. "Did-did you actually mark her?"

"What, are you blind?" Nate retorted.

"Jesus Nate," Nolan said with much surprise. "I didn't know you were capable of anything like that, since you're stone cold n' all."

"Your point?" Nate asked.

"Well.. since you marked her..." Nolan shrugged. "I'm guessing you did the deed...?"

"What?" I exclaimed suddenly that I nearly face-palmed myself for doing so.

"So she talks," Nolan chuckled. "I thought you were mute for a second there."

"No, I didn't do the 'deed.'" Nate folded his arms and leaned against the wall. "And why does it concern you?"

"Why?" Nolan's eyebrows went up. "Because I'm your older brother. I'm supposed to take care of you. I don't want you to get any diseases. Well, I'm not even sure you're still a virgin or whatever but you get my point."

"Take care of me?" Nate repeated. "It's been ten years since the last time I've seen you. I can take care of myself. That's what I've been doing since I was eight, Nolan."

Nolan placed his fingers up and counted them confusingly. "Oh? Has it been that long?"

"Just shut up and tell me why you're here," Nate seemed genuinely annoyed.

"Alright, fine." He plopped down on the couch and rested his feet on the table. Nolan placed his hands behind his head and leaned back. "I'm here to bring that idiot Jase to the Council. What the hell was he thinking doing that?"

"The Council sent you here to bring him to , now?" Nate asked. "I was supposed to two days from now, so why?"

"Don't know," Nolan replied, shaking his head. "He committed a great crime against the Ten Laws. You can't blame them. Plus, your pack killed three werewolf hunters that were in cahoots with him. The Council thanks you a lot, brother. But you killed three humans.."

Three humans that I happened to know. Three humans that took me out for food, nearly driving me home. Three humans that were close to being my friends. That was until they happened to be hunters who wanted to kill us all.

"What are they going to do with him?" I asked, a sudden surge of anxiety washing over me like a tidal wave.

"Lock him up in prison for eternity to let him rot, execute him, let him go, who knows?" Nolan said with no falter in his voice.

My spirit sinked endlessly like a rock in a bottomless lake. I knew Jase for years even though it felt like I didn't. The memories were just an empty void until they came back. I wished.. I wished I could just erase that memory of Jase and my mother.

"Hah," Nate said coolly. "I hope they execute the traitor. I wanted him dead from the start anyway."

He wasn't Jase anymore. He was now labeled the traitor. A name that will be branded on him for years on end.

The suddenly opens up revealing Tay. I met eye contact with her and immediately averted my gaze. "Nate.. uh.."

"Yes, I know about the guards," Nate said. "Did you do anything about it?"

"I took care of it," Tay said proudly.

"Atleast someone here isn't useless," Nate exasperated whilst looking at me. I leaned my head back and looked at him in complete, utterly shock. He ignored me. "Tay, you train the life of those men later or I will," Nate commanded Tay.

"Useless?" I grumbled. "You were the one who told me to stay behind and I quote 'knit a sweater.'" I use air quotes and added a deep voice when saying it.

"Oh boy," Nolan breathed out.

"That's because that's what you are," Nate said in an oblivious tone.

"You know what?" I turned to Nate. "How about I be the mature one for once since all you are is an arsehole."

"Oh damn, she called him an arsehole," Nolan gasped, covering his mouth. I glared at him. He took his hand off his mouth and said, "What? That'll probably be the closest thing you'll say to a badword."

"Guys, stop it," Tay interjected. We both pointed at her and say to her angrily to stay out of this. She admitted defeat, folded her arms and leaned on the door.

A figure stands at the door, staring at us all. Nolan jumped out of the seat. "Nicholas!" Nolan ran over to him and slung a hand around his neck. "It's good to see you!"

"You know him?" Tay gasped. So I guess Nick was the only one who knew about his brother.

"It's nice to see you too.. Nolan," Nick visibly forced a smile.

"Alright," Nate spoke up. "Enough with the happy reunion. Nolan, just follow me so you can get what you want."

Nolan smirked. "Well thank you, brother." Nolan wrapped his hand around his neck, bending him slightly and ruffling Nate's hair. "Let's go, shall we?"

Nate rolled his eyes and walked out the room with his brother. Tay was speaking incoherent words, furrowing her eyebrows, looking back and forth at Nick and I. Then finally, she took in a deep breath. She suddenly shouted. "Since when did Nate have a brother" -she points at Nick- "and how does he know you? What am I not being told?"

"Well," Nick started. "Nate has a brother and his name is Nolan, but.. he's not his full brother. They're just related through their mothers."

"Is..is that what Jase meant when he called Nate's mother... " Tay struggled to finish the sentence.

"Yeah.." Nick said awkwardly. "I don't want to be talking about Nate's business and because of the bad blood between them."

We didn't invade Nate's privacy. Instead, we took off our minds by heading to the training room. The thing is, we were stopped by an angry Barbara. She was in front of Hayden, extremely angry. We found them by the crashing of a sound that sounded like glass. Barbara broke a vase.

"Do not fling that word around like it's nothing!" Barbara screamed at Hayden. "'Whore this', 'whore that.' I'm sick of it!"

Hayden laughed bitterly. "Like I care. Isn't that the truth anyway? That's what you are, so you should be fine with it. I mean, you throw yourselves at guys without a care."

"You don't know half the reason behind it!" Barbara exclaimed. "Did you ever think about the reason why I do it?! No! You don't! So leave me the hell alone Hayden!"

"Barbara, Hayden," Nick said in a steady voice. "Stop it. Now."

"That's not going to work," Aron whispered. "I already tried. They won't seem to listen."

Barbara turned to Nick with a scowl. "Oh, look. The hero decides to step in. Whoop-dee-doo. Great. What are you gonna do, huh? Place your hand on my shoulder and tell me that I'm something?"

"That's not-"

"Shut up!" She shouted furiously at him, pointing a finger at him. "This is why I hate you all! I'm sick of you people!"

"Hayden.. what are you doing?" Tay asked. "Aren't you supposed to be worried about Jase?"

"I'm not going to mourn of that traitor," Hayden spat with pure disgust that you'd swear venom was present. "What's the sense anyway? He doesn't love me. He loves her."

I felt like to sink to the floor and stay balled up somewhere no one could see me. That wasn't true.. it couldn't be. It just wasn't possible. I refused to believe it. He just loved me as a friend.

"Oh, wow," Barbara raised her eyebrows and tangled her finger into the strands of her hair. "You're really something Alix. You have four boys at the feet of you without doing a thing. Huh, must be nice. You should give us girls a lesson sometime."

Four? I kept quiet and didn't answer him. I wrapped my arms around me since that was the only thing I could find as comfort to her words.

"Honestly Barbara, you should be the one giving us a lesson with your.. ways," Hayden smiled at Barbara.

Anger flickered across Barbara's face. "You better shut up before I rip your lips off, Hayden."

"Bite. Me," Hayden said slowly while putting her hand on her hips.

"Hayden, why are you slut shaming?" Tay asked angrily. "Do you know how disgusting you sound right now?"

"Oh, so now you're defending her!" Hayden raged.

"I'm done talking to an immature brat who can't get in bed with her own mate." Barbara rolled her eyes and strode out the room magnificently with her dress in the air.

Hayden had her teeth clenched, ready to run after Barbara. She walked furiously after her but Nick placed his hand on her shoulder. He kept his formal demeanor in check. "Hayden."

Hayden flinched at the tone of this voice. It was somehow different. Commanding, icy. "Please refrain from talking to anyone like that. Use some manners instead. I'm sure Nate's parents raised you better than that and I'm sure they would be disappointed if they were still alive."

She looked down, her hair hiding whatever emotions she displayed. Hayden suddenly recoiled from his grasp and walked out without a word. Nick took in a deep breath and exhaled. The expression on his face made me interpret that he didn't want do do that whatsoever.

"I'm hungry," Rena appeared out of no where. She looked at Aron. "Cook me something."

"No," Aron responded. "You ate half an hour ago."

"So?" Rena retorted.

"What do you mean 'so?'" Aron scowled. "You pig. Go to sleep or something."

"Hey!" She slapped his arm. "I am not a pig!"

A pack member appeared at the door. He had a panicked expression on his face and we exchanged glances. Four words were said that made my pulse leap like a horse getting ready to run off. The rogues are out.

I suddenly think of Nate. Before I my mind caught up to my actions to move, Nick dashed out of the room. We all ran to the cellar where the rogues were being kept. They didn't stop me because there was no point. I wanted to see if he was okay. I prayed he was.

I sort of trailed behind since I haven't mastered the art of werewolf abilities. We were at the jail cells, each off them wide open with no one in sight. Running down the corridor, we arrived at the room where Jase was being held. I caught sight of Nate sprawled out on the ground in the room of confinement.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw blood everywhere in the room. It couldn't be his since he only had his temple bleeding. I ran over to him and bent down beside him. "Nate?" I said repeatedly.

"Nate!" Rena screamed. We looked at her with scowls. She looked back with an angelic look. "What?"

I looked back at Nate to see his eyes shoot open. I breath a sigh of relief. His eyes tightened and he sat up slowly. "Jesus Christ," he cursed. "Who the hell screamed in my ear?"

Rena looked at him awkwardly. "Sorry.."

He looked like he was thinking thoughtfully. His eyes are half closed now with pure sass on his face. "What did he do?"

Nick answered. "The rogues are gone as well as Jase. Looks like he released them all."

"Huh." Nate ran his hand through his hair. "So he was working with those people and here I brought him in here without thinking about my actions. I knew there was something off about him. Acting as if he liked me. Wonderful. Just wonderful."

"It's not your fault," I said with a reassuring voice. "You didn't know."

"Oh, shut up," he snapped. "It is my fault and you all know it. Don't give me that crap about 'it isn't my fault.' I let him in knowing there was something off."

"Okay, fine," I said. "It is your fault. All of it. The rogues, Jase and your brother are who knows where because of you. Happy?"

"Yes," he said tonelessly. "I am. Thanks."

"You sure do look happy," I said, looking at his emotionless face.

"Guys, quit," Tay interjected, annoyed. "You guys are acting like a married couple at a crucial moment. Not today please."

"I'd never get married to this brat," Nate scrunched his eyebrows together.

Before I could retort, Aron spoke up. "If you won't marry her then I will."

"Oh?" Nate raised his eyebrows. "You have my blessings for this marriage."

"Do you really?" Aron leaned in. "I'm sure she'd be happy to hear what you said in your sleep the other day."

Nate's eyes fixed on Aron. "You wouldn't dare." Aron nodded slowly. "I would."

"Guys!" Tay shouted as a large crash was heard from above. "Enough with the chit chat! We're supposed to help the pack capture the rogues!"

They got up without a moment of hesitation. Nate had placed each of us with partners and to split us up to capture the rogues who had escaped. And well, I was stuck with Nate. He either did this on purpose or forgot I was there. Gosh, he hates me to a new level.

We were jogging down the hall with no one in sight. I followed behind him and my breath caught in my throat when a figure blocked my way. Their eyes glowed a crimson color and their canines grew when they snarled.

He suddenly was out of my way before I was about to attack. The werewolf was chucked to the wall and it fought back furiously. A woman was fighting it off as it thrashed and bared its teeth at her. She moved back swiftly, grabbed something that shun silver and moved like quicksilver when its neck was sliced. The werewolf slumped to the ground.

The woman turned and looked at me. The same familiar voice. "Aliana?"

Nate stared at the woman but she didn't seem to pay attention to me. I stammered. "I'm not Aliana. I'm her daughter.. did you know her?"

She blinked frantically and she gasped. "A-Alix? God, you look so much like Aliana."

I looked at her confusingly. "You do know.. that she's.." The dark haired woman nodded. "I know she isn't alive. It's just that seeing you for such a long time I just-"

"Lucetta." A growl errupted from Nate's throat. "How are you here? I thought you were dead."

"Nathaniel," she breathed, looking at him.

"Do not call me Nathaniel," Nate said lowly.

She smiled. "Sorry, Nate. I just can't believe you locked me up in the cellar without even knowing. It's a shame."

"What?" He said. "You were down there?"

The woman named Lucetta sighed. "When you were a child- during the invasion- your former pack members locked the people by throwing people in the cellars without looking if they were their own pack members or the invaders. Seems to me that your former Beta didn't care about who he threw in. He probably saw me and decided not to take me out since I was a puny mortal to him."

"I know nothing about that," Nate responded. "I placed someone else in charge of the rogues so I wouldn't know you were down there."

"I see you put an awful amount of trust on this person," Lucetta said.

"I don't," Nate said. "It isn't a hard job so I didn't expect anything to go wrong."

"Ah, okay." She nodded and walked up to me. "Alix? Do you remember me? Well, you were only a little girl so I don't expect you to."

I shook my head.

"Where did you get that knife?" Nate asked, pointing at it.

She looked at it and waved it around. "Oh this? I just picked it up from the kitchen."

Nate sighed and told her to just keep it or throw away. After small talk, Lucetta turned her head to the direction of Nate. He beckoned her with his finger and she raised her eyebrow. She walked over to him.

"If you eavesdrop I'll lock you up in the cellar," Nate warned. "Understand?"

I nodded in response and they began talking, a few interruptions by rogues. They ended the rogues with a single strike and got back to their conversation quickly. A sudden look of shock flickered across her face. I wondered why but I was told not to focus my hearing on it. Their conversation was finished after that and they walked back over here.

The capturing of the rogues was finally over. Only half was managed to be captured. A few pack members were hurt but were taken care of at the infirmary by Cara. The rest of the week, probably months or years were going to be hectic. Especially with the Council involved.
