The cruelest thing of all is false hope.❞

Sister Jude

We looked at the spot where we left our clothes and towels. Rena was right - our clothes were gone. I wiped my face in frustration and wondered how we were going to get out of here. What were we going to do? Run naked to our tents with were-speed?

"You don't think..." I looked at Tay and she clenched her teeth.

Her hand ripped through the water, splashing in frustration and she cursed. "That slut! I can't take her anymore! When I see her, I'm going to crack her neck."

"Did she do this for fun or is she planning something?" I asked.

"Planning something?" Tay raised her eyebrows. "Yeah, probably to get into Nates' pants."

I stared at her and felt slight anger boiling in my blood. I took in a deep breath and responded to her. "Yes, she might pull a stunt like that but Nate won't even allow her to touch him. There is no way he'd do the do with her."

She snorted at 'do the do' and responded. "I don't know.. who knows.." She raised her shoulders slowly. I furrowed my eyebrows at her. She placed her hands up and started waving her hands. "I'm just joking, geez! You know that Nate isn't that kind of person. He just seems like he isn't interested in romance. But you-" she winked, "-definitely."

"He marked me.. does that.." I trailed off, touching the mark while blushing.

"Well, it'll make the bond stronger, that's for sure." She nodded. "And that mark will tell everyone that your his. Once everyone sees that he marks you, they'll respect you more than before as a Luna."

"Guys!" Rena interjected. "I really want to get out of here so I can sleep!"

"Rena," Tay said. "It's seven in the morning."

"Exactly!" She exclaims. "I want to gooooo!"

"We're not going naked Rena," I responded to her whining.

She pouted and turned around. Rena started swimming and we both react to it. We swam quickly to her as she nearly started pushing herself out of the hot spring. I pried her hands off the rocks while Tay wrapped her hands around her waist, pulling her back. Rena kicks and thrashes, screaming for us to let her go.

"Guys? Where-" we heard a male voice call. We all look up to see Nick staring at us. Us girls swam back in the water while screaming at Nick, hugging ourselves while Tay just rolled her eyes.

He blushes massively and covers his eyes. "I'm sorry! I didn't mean to! I-I didn't know! You guys were gone for so long I got worried!"

"Nick did you find them?" Another male voice asked. It was Jase, arriving beside Nick.

"Yup," Jase said. "You found them alright."

Jase grabbed Nick's shoulders and shook him. "So, have you been introduced to the world of girls?"

Something black passed right me, hitting Jase square in the forehead. Jase grunted in pain, pressing his palm on my forehead. "What the hell?"

"If you don't turn around and leave," she pointed at Jase. "I'll get plenty more rocks to shove down your throat."

Jase clenched his jaw. Nick spread one of his arms to block Jases' path. He looked at Nick angrily but Nick just sighed. "Back to the reason why I'm here. I got worried so I follow your scent. So why aren't you back at the camping site?"

"Our clothes are gone," Tay responded bluntly.

"Your clothes are gone?" Nick raised his eyebrows. I nodded. "Oh, uh, I'll get Barbara to pick out your clothes or something."

"No!" We shout in unison. Nick looked at us confusingly. "We think Barbara did this. So get someone else, okay?"

"Okay," Nick responded. They both walk away leaving us alone.

After that, we stayed in the warm water, watching the steam sway around us. It only took a few minutes before someone arrived with our clothes. It happened to be Hayden setting down our clothes by the rocks. She looks at me with a murderous look in her eye then she walked away.

"Ah, Hayden," she says with with several 'tsks'. "I find her rather weird. She stays locked up in her room, looking down on us as if we're peasants."

I fiddled with my nails and thought back about what happened in the infirmary. "Is there something wrong Alix?"

I shook my head. "No, it's fine. Let's just get changed and head back.

Tay told me that everyone was supposed to meet in a certain location. She led us to an area without trees, just a circular land with dirt. Everyone was there discussing matters and making plans.

"What were you guys doing?" Aron asked worriedly.

"Taking a warm bath!" Rena responded.

Two girls ran over to us with a worried expression. Before, they were running to everyone, asking something. "Have you guys seen Daniel and Wes?"

The expression on their faces were serious to a new level. I felt a twinge of hurt knowing I couldn't help them. "I.. uh.. no, we haven't seen them."

They sped off somewhere else to search for them. "They weren't supposed to go outside the circle..."

Then high pitched screams emitted throughout the forests. Everyone immediately took action and went on guard. It was the girls and we needed to do something before something goes horribly wrong.

"Tay, Aron, check the southern boundaries and report back," Nate said in a stern voice.

"Yes Alpha."

"Nick, Rena, come with me and... Jase, stay here with Alix and guard her with the others."

They all nodded in response and followed their orders. "Stay? I want to help!"

"Knit a sweater or something," Nate responded.

"I'm not that useless!" I exclaimed, furrowing my eyebrows.

"I beg to differ," he said, giving me a turned glance.

"I can't even knit!" I retort, groaning in frustration.

I took in a deep breath and look at Rena who was still here. "Rena," I said. "Aren't you going?"

"N-no," she stuttered. "I don't want to cause any bad luck."

"Huh?" I said confusingly. "But he just- what do you mean?"

"We have to go Rena," Nick called. She gulped and ran towards them both. Hopefully she'll answer when I ask her what she meant by that.

I was alone with Jase and a few guards. Another scream was produced. I looked at Jase and refused to believe he was in a dream I had last night. I told myself it wasn't real. It couldn't be real.

"Hey, let me pass, I need to go!" I exclaimed while trying to get through them.

They looked at me with smirks etched onto their faces and I looked at them confusingly. One of them grabbed my hand and looked down at me. "You're not going anywhere sweetheart. You're staying here until they get the message."

I tried shaking his grasp off and prying his hands off me. I looked at Jase but he wasn't looking at me all. His arms were folded and he was looking in another direction. "What do you mean message? Get off me!"

"Oh no, not yet," he said while smiling. "I want to hold you for much longer."

"Don't do anything stupid," Jase said.

"Shut up Jase," the man shot back. "I don't take orders from you."

"What is this?!" I demanded, looking at them both. They both ignored me. I glanced at the man's arm and decided to sink my canines in his skin.

"Was that supposed to hurt?" He raised his eyebrows. I growled. The man stared at me in utter surprise and his grip loosened.

"You idiot!" The other one exclaimed. "You aren't supposed to get her angry! Do you want to die?!"

"Can it you!" The man who held my arm exclaimed. He took in a deep breath. "You won't say any of this, will you? Unless you want your friends killed one by one, leaving you alone in the end so we can watch you suffer."

My breath hitched at this and I stared at his eyes. Cocky, arrogant. Everything about him made my blood pressure rise. I should say what's on my mind. But what if something happens? No.. I should say it.

"I know for a fact that they're strong. They're capable of protecting themselves. They're not afraid to say anything and to stand up for whatever they think is right. They're not cowards unlike you." I kept my tone calm, my expression nonchalant. Everything about me was composed.

"Coward?!" He gripped onto my shirt ands brought me in closer.

"Yes, a coward. You're working with someone behind the scenes, not having any of your will in your actions. You're just following cruel actions from some monstrous person who probably has nothing to do. You're afraid of the fact that you can't be protected from these powerful persons because they can easily kill you. So that's why you're a coward. You want them all dead."

He clenched his teeth and had no response. I raised my foot and sent it up where the sun didn't shine. He released his grip and I stood firmly on the ground after a few staggering.

I ran as fast as I could to the direction where I saw Nate going with the others. I looked at the back of me to see none of them chasing me. Looking forward, I see many persons spread out in an arc. I ran towards Nate and the others.

"Nate! Somethi-" I stopped mid-way when I see a pile of dead bodies in front of me. I gagged, covered my nose and mouth when I smelled burning flesh. "Wh-what happened?"

"We're not sure," Nick said, looking at the bodies.

I squinted my eyes and saw slashes on their bare chest that resembled letters. "Are those words?"

"They are.." Nick answered again. From one body to the other were different words that made out a sentence. "Give.. us.. to.. her.."

"Her?" I said to myself. "They don't mean.."

"We don't know," Rena said sadly. "We don't know who got in."

I looked at the bodies and saw two bodies that looked familiar. Wes and Daniel. I looked around to find the girls who were looking for them. They weren't here.

"Guys.. I have to tell you something," I said.

"What is it?" Nate asked. Before I could say anything. Something black zipped past me. It was an arrow and Nate reacted by catching it with his hand. Oh.

I stared at it in his hand before he looked at me. Just when everyone was about to shift, Nate commanded them. "All of you stay in your human forms and get behind!"

Everyone did as he said. Nate stepped forward with his vision focused in front of him. "Alright Three Stooges, get out of the trees and get over here, now."

I squinted to see who he was talking about. Three figures came out of the shadows. The three boys that held different weapons and in black stood in front of us. Those three boys were ones that I met at that therapy - Ryan, Chase and Logan.

"Well, well, isn't it the 'Heartless Alpha," Ryan taunted, pulling a knife out of a pocket.

"What?" Nate said glumly. "Is there something wrong?"

"No," Ryan answered. "It's just that I hate it."

"I don't recall asking for your opinion," Nate retorted.

"A smart mouth, eh?" Ryan raised his eyebrows.

"Can you stop blabbing off your mouth so we can just kill them?" Chase said impatiently.

"Shut it Chase," Ryan snapped. He turned back to Nate. "So where's your partner in crime? What's his name? Nicholas?"

"Right here," Nick said, slightly putting his hands up.

"Oh," Ryan said. "I didn't even notice you."

"Okay.." Nick said, slightly closing his eyes.

Logan had a crossbow in his hand and he aimed it at me. I stepped closer to Nate and he glared at me. "Get back Alix."

"Can I just ask one question?" I pleaded.

Nate sighed. "Just don't be stupid."

"Aw, I guess the Heartless Alpha isn't heartless after all," Logan teased. So I guess that is his true color. The same one that resembled his dark clothes.

"You guys want me, right?" I said. "Why?"

"Well.." Ryan sticks his bottom lip out. "We don't know exactly. We just followed orders."

"Orders?" Nate asked. "From who?"

"Out of everyone, you especially should know," Ryan pointed out.

Nate didn't answer. I took a step and looked at his hard expression. I asked him if he was going to kill them.

"Yes," Nate answered. "Do you want one of those alive? Who do you prefer? Logan, Ryan, or Chase?"

He couldn't of known. The time Chase almost kissed me. I never told anyone! So how would he know?

"How did you know that?" I gasped.

"Doesn't really matter," Nate replied nonchalantly.

"What? You don't care?" I said a little bit too sadly.

Nate had ignored me. After that, he ordered. "Kill three of them! Keep at least one of them alive!"

It looked so planned out. The pack members moved in sync like they had done this over and over again. They trusted each other. Although they were professionals, it wasn't as easy. Arrows were plunged into the flesh's of several people, bones were broken, slashes were carved into their skins.

They managed to break Logan's neck and he laid lifeless on there ground. How was I still watching?

"Logan!" Ryan screamed, he looked at us with angry eyes like he was ready to kill. He charged to Nate but he was stopped immediately. Nick took out his heart effortlessly and threw it on the ground. Two down already.

Everyone stopped and held Chase captive. Nate walked towards him and looked down on him. "Who sent you here?"

"Why would I tell you dumbass?" Chase smirked at him. The girl who held him captive kicked his back, plunging him on the ground with his head on the dirt. She held him down on the ground and looked at Nate for approval.

"Let me ask you again," Nate said darkly. "Who sent you here?"

The girl kept a firm grip on his head to the ground. Chase laid one side of his face and looked at Nate with clenched teeth. He didn't answer. "I rather die than tell you anything."

"Alright, we'll just deal with you later," Nate said before Chase was knocked out by a powerful contact with a fist.
