L E O N A R D O

At the mention of my name, my head subconsciously turned towards the direction of the sound. I was expecting that either Cassidy or Iris would be the ones calling me but no, it was her.

A tingling sensation passed through my whole body and I don't know why when all she literally did was call my name.

"I'll do the dishes." Iris offered and announced to everyone when she saw we were all almost done.

I need to talk to Winter. My mom called to inform me about an annual Christmas ball we always attend and told me to bring Winter.

After we all finished eating, I took my plates to the kitchen and had to fight the urge to just wash it off immediately but I decided to just wash it all and cleaned the whole place all over again.

"You denied being a neat freak, what's this? I said I would do the dishes." Iris strolled into the kitchen with her plate and cup in her hand.

"I'm not. I just like having my space arranged. Bring it here." I defended myself and told her to drop her stuff in the sink.

"No Leo, I said I'd do it." She groaned as she walked to the sink.

"Fine, do what you want. Just clean up properly afterwards." I turned on the faucet and rinsed my hands.

When I strolled out of the kitchen, I locked eyes with a certain blonde woman. "Leonardo, I need to talk to you." She voiced out.

"It's alright," I strided towards her. "You know you can call me Leo right?" I taunted her.

She rolled her eyes, "Are you done?" She hissed.

"I also wanted to talk to you but you can go first."

"What do you want to talk about?" She insisted.

"You go first." I retorted.

"You can go ahead honestly."

"Ladies first, I'm trying to be a gentleman here!" I insisted.

"Ugh!" She groaned loudly. "I don't have time for this." She pursed her lips and waved her hands midair.

"Then go first." I walked over to the couch and sat on it then she joined me.

A vein popped up on her forehead, "My mom asked me to invite you to a Christmas ball we're hosting tomorrow." She scowled.

"No way!" I yelled.

"What is it?" She raised one of her eyebrows.

"That's exactly what I was going to tell you."

"What?" She knitted her brows in confusion.

"My mom asked me to tell you about a ball we're meant to attend tomorrow."

"What a coincidence!" She exclaimed.

"Have you ever attended it before? If you need some he-"

"I kind of have to attend it every year because my dad always hosts it."

"Wait so you were always at the ball?!" I eagerly awaited her reply.

"I literally just said that! How are you a doctor when you can't even keep up with this conversation?!" She teased.

"Very funny." I rolled my eyes at her and began to walk upstairs.

"Wait!" She yelled strolling to catch up with me. "I was playing." She looked into my eyes.

What exactly is she playing at?

"I'm just surprised because I have been attending those balls for about four years and I never sighted you."

"I'm not surprised. You were probably busy chasing after different women and I'm pretty boring and ordinary so-"

"You are far from ordinary Winter. You, although you can act like a bitch sometimes, you're pretty cool."

Winter stood there and gaped at me while holding a shocked expression then I realized that I had just praised her.

"I'm going to ignore the fact that you just insulted me but that's the nicest thing you've ever said to me so I'll take it." She grinned.

Her smile actually looked real this time and this was the first time I had ever seen it. Her face brightened. She was literally glowing.

"Whatever." I scratched the back of my head.

My phone vibrated from my pocket and I took it out. The caller ID showed it was from the hospital.

"It's from the hospital, I have to take this." I informed Winter and then excused myself by walking outside.

"I'm so sorry to disturb you days after your wedding but this is an emergency." Nadia, my assistant nurse apologized through the phone.

"It's alright, What's going on?"

"Well Mr Trey Lawson, the patient who had been admitted awaiting his surgery?" She asked me.

"Yeah, he's still not yet strong enough to have the operation. What's wrong with him?"

"He's been complaining that the painkillers we give isn't working enough for his chest pains and he went into cardiac arrest a while ago."

"I told you to keep me posted about his case! Where's Dr Richard? Tell him t-."

"He's not available at the moment."

"Fuck!" I cursed aloud. "Prepare the OR, I'm on my way!" I instructed before hanging up.

"I have to go." I yelled to Winter then jogged upstairs to grab my car keys.

"Is it an emergency?" She had a concerned look on her face when I came back down.

"Yeah, I really have to go. I'm not sure when I will be back." I informed her in advance.

After parking my car, I jogged inside Regional Hospital while replying everyone that greeted me, I wasn't able to pay attention to who exactly was talking to me.

"Come." I instructed Nadia when I saw her outside my office.

As I walked inside my office, I washed my hands, grabbed my white jacket, put it on before grabbing my stethoscope.

"Good day Dr." Nadia greeted dressed in her official blue scrub and with her black hair twisted in a single braid.

"Get the case file." I hurried.

"Right away doc!" She scurried out of the office and came back with the case file.

After reading the file from where I stopped days ago, I realized his condition had become worse.

"The aneurysm is quite worse now." I voiced out my thoughts.

"Let's go and see him."

Nadia and I walked to greet the patient. He was an elderly man who was dressed in a hospital gown and had different machines connected to him including an oxygen mask.

"How are you Mr Lawson?" I asked the bald man who was in way too much pain to speak.

"We're taking you to perform your surgery now alright? I assure you that you will be completely fine after this. No pains or anything." I assured him.

He couldn't talk but his expression showed great fear and discomfort.

I won't fail him, he will most definitely survive it. I'll make sure he will.
