Scared! L x Reader

You were peacefully reading in bed during a heavy thunderstorm, with the lights low waiting for L to get home from work. You always loved the sound of rain on the roof, as well as the booming thunder above your head. It was so calming and peaceful for you, and ever since you were little it was your absolute favourite type of weather.

"(y-y/n)? Are you in there?"

You hear L's voice call out, and you smile as you close your book.

"Yep, you're home early. How come?"

You ask as you shift over a little, looking towards the door.

"I um...I didn't want to be alone."

He says as he opens the door, and you immediately take notice that he was shaking.

"Huh? What's wrong? You're shaking."

He stays silent as he slowly walks over to your bed as lightning soundlessly strikes, illuminating the room for a split second. He looked completely petrified. You've never seen L in this state before, and you open your arms to him as your expression softens. Before he can take another step towards you the loudest thunder roar you've ever heard strikes, causing him to almost immediately rush into your grasp.

"Honey...Are you...Scared of thunderstorms? Come under the blankets with me."

You ask as you lovingly bring him closer, running your hand down his hair to comfort him as he gets under the sheets with you.

"I-It's so embarrassing...But it's been this way since I was very small. It's not that I want to be afraid of something as silly as this, it's..."

He mumbles as his shaking continues while smaller thunder noises rumble in the distance.

"No no...it's ok. I'm here for you. You don't have to explain how you feel. I understand."

You say as you give him a long and loving kiss on the top of his head. Sure, it came as a surprise that L was afraid of anything, let alone thunder, but the last thing you wanted to do was judge him.

"I'm glad you do. I used to be made fun of for this."

He says, and you give him a gentle squeeze as you feel sad that he was picked on because of something he couldn't even control. After a little silence as he just started to calm down and compose himself again, a sudden and extremely loud crack of thunder happens right over your head, causing you to instinctively bring your boyfriend in as close as you can.

"Are you alright?"

You ask as he holds to you for dear life, and he slowly nods as his shaking continues.

"Hey...look at me."

You ask as you gently cup his cheek, turning it towards you.

"It's ok, I promise."

You say before you bring your lips together, trying hard to be as gentle and loving as you could. His lips slightly trembled on yours for a few seconds, but he soon leans in and loosens his grip on you, obviously getting a little more relaxed. After a little while you pull apart, and he smiles softly as you give him another small peck on his cheek.

"You're wonderful (y/n), and I love you so much. I hope you know that."

He softly whispers as he runs his hand down your cheek with a slightly shaky hand.

"You're wonderful."

You answer as you bring your hand up to meet his. He takes a deep breath as he turns his head to look outside, staring at the pelting rain against the window while some small lightning strikes shone in the distance.

"It's raining hard."

He says as he cuddles into you, to which you give him a gentle squeeze in response.

"Yea, it's supposed to be stormy all night long."

"All night?"

He asks as he tightens his grasp.

"Mhm."

You hum as you look down at his hand tightly locked with yours.

"I hope the weather was wrong then."

He softly responds as he rests his head on your chest, probably to listen to your heartbeat. You feel sad that he probably wanted to at least get some sleep tonight, but the thunder would probably make it hard, or even near impossible. After a moment or two of nothing but the sound of occasional low rumble from the sky, you begin running your hand down his back as you softly hum in attempts to make him feel better. You immediately take notice that right after you started with your small song, he calmed down immediately. He didn't even seem to notice or even care that the thunder got sort of loud again, other than the occasional small flinch. And after around 10 minuets of that, he actually drifted off. You could tell it wasn't a deep sleep, and it was rather uneasy, but you were glad he was getting at least a little rest through the storm.

And even though you were tired, you decide to stay up until the thunder ended to make sure he was alright if he woke up. A few long hours later the storm had finally stopped earlier than the weather predicted, and you slip down next to L as you begin to fall asleep, thankful that it didn't last all night long.

"Mmph...(y/n)?"

He mumbles as he opens his eyes.

"Yes sweetheart?"

You ask as you outstretch your hand towards him, softly running your thumb across his jaw.

"Thank you."

He says as he leans in and gives you a small kiss, just missing your lips by a few millimetres.

"It's no problem honey bun. I love you, and I want you to feel happy and safe."

You answer as you yawn.

"I love you too. Too much for my own good. But you need to get some sleep dearest. I'll see you in the morning."

He smiles as he taps the end of your nose.

"Ok."

You answer as he slips you in his arms, delicately kissing your forehead before you go to sleep, oddly happy that you knew the worlds greatest detective's strange fear.

Thunder, of all things.
