"I'm going to miss you, you know."

L finally mumbles, his voice wavering only slightly at the end of his sentence. You feel your tears building again before hugging him tightly, to which he returns, putting his head into your shoulder and not daring to look up.

"Will you be back..?"

You ask, and he remains silent and unmoving.

"You're not saying anything. Please tell me."

"It means I don't know if I'll be coming back here anytime soon...Or ever. I'm so sorry (y/n), but I don't have a choice."

He answers, and you couldn't help but cry as he held you softly. Who knew that today, just like any other you would spend together, was the last time you may ever see him.

It made you furious.

"I didn't tell you because I care about you...And it scared me."

He mumbles, and you take a shaky deep breath, stepping away as your feelings of sadness quickly get replaced with a cold anger. Wiping your tears, you look up at him before jamming your pockets in your coat.

"Because you care? You certainly have a very funny way of showing it then."

You angrily state, turning around before you feel your hand being grabbed.

"I don't want to leave you (y/n)."

He finally admits, and you turn toward him only slightly.

"You know that."

he continues in a mumble, and you soften slightly as you squeeze his hand, looking down at the matching bracelets.

"So after tonight...I won't ever see you again?"

"Probably not."

He answers honestly, not daring to meet your gaze.

"There has to be something we can do. Right? There has to be..."

"Realistically...There isn't. Unless we ran away together or something."

He says, in a slight joking manor...But then you both fall silent.

"I...Have family across the country."

You say without even thinking, frankly in disbelief that the words were coming out of your mouth. But before long, you found yourselves talking about it. At first in a joking, almost non-serious way as you reluctantly walked back, but as the evening set in, the conversation turned toward the question of how rather than what if.

It's not like it would be that hard on your family...Hell, they rarely ever noticed that you had run off with L for the day. Not like they would notice you left all together.

"Anyway...Its getting late...I wouldn't want you getting in trouble for being gone too long. We don't have a lot of time, but I think I'm gunna head home and get my stuff together. If you decide you want to come along...Meet me at the train station tomorrow at 5am. That's when the first one leaves, so....If you're serious..."

You trail off as you see how the stars were well out, and he remains silent while you feel a lump in your throat forming.

"But...If you do end up leaving tomorrow...I wouldn't blame you...But please..."

You begin, having to take a deep breath before you finish your sentence.

"Please don't forget me."

You almost whisper, before pulling him close and pressing your lips to his cheek for only a second.

"I'll see you when I see you then...Goodbye L."

You mumble, before you turn and start walking - parting ways for the last time.

On the walk home, you had decided to go whether he came with you or not. Decided to say fuck it to everything and fly solo for a little while at the very least, hopefully ending your journey at your aunt and uncle's place across the country...Even though you've only met them once, years ago. But they send you a birthday card every year. They were the only family members who did, so at least they cared to some degree.

Thinking about this while you enter your house, you see your mother standing in the doorway to the kitchen, making you stop. Based on the feeling in the air, you could already just sense she was pissed about something, and you silently sigh, figuring you should just try and get upstairs before some blow up happened.

"And where have you been? I hope you ate dinner somewhere because you were late coming home. I figured you wouldn't need it."

You hear your mother ask, and you sigh before continuing to walk upstairs, not wanting to deal with it tonight.

"You know exactly where I was. Besides, it's a Saturday."

You answer, and hear a scoff.

"Not with that boy again."

"Yep."

You answer, stopping and looking over, seeing her standing cross armed across the room.

"He's a bad influence and a freak, you know."

"Psh. Okay? And? I like being around him. Is there anything you wanted to add to that or...?"

You ask, not buying into it tonight. L was a better influence than she was - that's for damn sure. And it's not like she ever spent effort trying to get to know him.

"Well, since you clearly value him more than your own mother you should run away with him or something. See how that goes."

"That's the plan."

"What?"

"That's the plan."

You answer bluntly, continuing up the stairs and locking yourself into your room before she could come after you. And she didn't. Showed how much she cared about your answer.

Packing was tough, but you figured you needed to do it. Over a few hours you managed to get your things down to one duffel bag, before flopping into your bed, waiting for the night to end.

Hopefully you had everything.

~♡~L's POV~♡~

My mind was racing ever since I got back to my room.

Looking around, I couldn't help but consider going with (y/n). As the hours of the night set in and the time (y/n) specified to meet at the station drew closer, I had actually been focusing on packing a bag in case I decided to go with her. It had all the necessities in it - as far as I could think.

Just in case...Right?

Looking down at it, I can't help but continue to think. My life was pretty much laid out for me already. What other chance would I have to just...Go on my own somewhere? As far as I knew, it was unlikely I would get a chance to go anywhere with (y/n), let alone see her again. Besides, avoiding getting traced will definitely be a useful....Field exercise for me.

Before I knew it, it was 4:30am. Hearing footsteps coming down the hall, I look over before hearing a short knock at the door.

"L? Are you ready to go to the airport?"

I hear Watari's voice suddenly outside my room, and I glance up, distracted from shoving more shirts in my bag. I hadn't slept all last night.

Kicking it under the bed quickly, I turn as I look toward the door...Was I really going to follow through with this? To be completely honest, all I was thinking about was (y/n), and I had only started formally 'packing' around five minuets ago. I really didn't want to have to go. Just thinking about it made me feel like a pit was in my stomach.

"Yeah. Almost."

I shrug, while the door opens and I hear a sigh.

"I thought so. Fortunately I've taken the liberty of packing for you."

Watari sighs, looking at my haphazard job and the barely half full suitcases. To be fair though, I was mainly focusing on packing a different bag.

"We must be at the airport in 3 hours. It's a long drive, so I hope you have any personal items you wish to take with you. Be downstairs in twenty minuets, please."

He says, and I nod while I glance down at the grey backpack I had put most of the necessities in. I suppose I'll need my laptop... And....The charger for it too.....But what else...

Placing my index finger to my lips, I take a quick glance around my room before spotting bags of candy I had on my desk. That was something I absolutely needed to take with me.

I don't know if it was pure impulse, or something else, but I had twenty minuets to decide.

now or never I suppose.

I think, before throwing open my closet and pulling on a warm hoodie, shoving my feet into my shoes and briskly walking across the room. Grabbing my bag, I slip it on my shoulders before placing my hands on the windowsill.

You'll regret it if you don't. And despite the trouble you'll get in, bailing is always an option. As long as (y/n) is unharmed from it.

I think, opening it up and feeling the cold and damp morning air creeping up on my face. Taking a deep breath, I slip out of the window, feeling quite guilty about the storm I would inevitably be causing by doing this. But...After last night, I can't just not see (y/n) again.

Deciding to stop thinking about it, I slide down the side of the roof, trying to control the speed a bit more than normal. The morning dew certainly made the shingling slippery.

~~Your POV~~

Waiting at the station, you tap your foot uneasily as five am drew ever closer. You didn't particularly want to go alone, but if he didn't come with you...That was his choice.

"(y/n)!"

You hear, causing you to spin around before you see L walking quickly toward you, shifting a backpack that looked rather heavy.

"wh-L!? You're coming with me?!"

You beam, running over and wrapping your arms around him.

"You need someone to help you not get caught by any law enforcement don't you?"

He asks, and you can't help but smile as you step back for a moment.

"Plus, I was thinking last night and...My whole life is planned out for me already. I want to have a bit of fun on my own....With you....Even if I have to go home eventually."

He finally says, and you feel yourself get a tiny bit emotional before you grab his cheeks, pushing your lips on his quickly before breaking off, leaving him dazed.

"Anyway, come on! We have a train to catch and a one way ticket out of here!"

You smile, grabbing his hand and pulling him through the station.

"But don't we have to buy a ticket...?"

He asks, looking back to the booth before his eyes trace to you again.

"Nope, because tickets can be traced, and we don't want a paper trail leading where we went. I'm thinking we should take the stowaway route. It'll be more fun. Besides, were not taking the five am passenger train. There isn't one."

You smile, slowing down and looking through the train yard to a cargo train with an empty car that was part way open.

"That's our ride."

you smile, taking his hand and running across the train platform, ducking out of sight before quickly making your way to the open car. climbing inside, you help L up and gently close it - hoping the train had already been inspected.

Thankfully, by some miracle swipe of luck, it had. Not long after you settled in - laying out your jacket to sit on - the train starts moving, signifying for now there was no turning back.

You were just glad he came with you.

About 30 minuets after the train left, L's burner flip phone was absolutely blowing up with texts and calls from who you could only assume to be from his caretakers.

figures. Wish you could say the same for yourself.

"L?"

you sheepishly ask, slightly regretting dragging him with you. He doesn't respond as he scrolls through a few of the text messages, but soon after takes the flip phone and promptly snaps it in half, tossing it from the train as casually as can be. Seeing your shocked expression, he stretches before walking over, wobbling only slightly because of the train's movement.

"They probably were going to trace the location anyway. And you know...I always hated cell phones."

L says, walking over before sitting beside you, looking at the scenery passing by.

"So when does this thing stop?"

he asks, and you shrug.

"Not sure. I know its at least going in the direction we're headed."

"Hm. I like it."

He sighs, looking out to the countryside passing by as he leans back a little.
