You and L had only just gotten home from one of your friends weddings, and you yawn as you step into your house, kicking off your high heels.

"Well, that was fun...Ish."

You say, while L helps you slip your coat off, hanging it up before he loosens the tie he had on and undoing the first few buttons on his collared shirt.

"It was alright. The cake was decent at least....But I have to admit I was looking forward to coming back home."

He says, and you sense in his tone that he was completely socially drained. L had never been to a huge event such as a wedding before, and you could tell the whole time he felt definitely more than a little out of place. Of course you couldnt blame him, though.

"Thank you for coming with me, by the way. You know you didnt have to."

You smile as you walk with him into your home, just glad to be back and alone at last.

"Of course I did. I may not have wanted to...But I'm your boyfriend..So it comes with the territory I suppose."

He says, and you laugh slightly while you take his slender hand in yours.

"Well let's go take a shower and relax for a bit, okay? I dont know about you but I just want to crash."

You suggest, to which he nods as you make your way over to the bathroom. On the way there, L takes his tie off fully and continues to unbutton his shir, making you laugh softly.

"Come on. Let's get there before you start taking your clothes off."

You softly beckon, taking some towels out of the closet by the door and bringing them in with you.

Once there, you gently turn L toward you and undo the rest for him, before softly cupping his cheek.

"Tired?"

You ask, noticing how he seemed a bit sleepy before he shakes his head.

"No. Just...."

"Burned out?"

"Yes. I just want to be with you and only you for a bit. You know, you're the only person I'd be with by choice."

He sighs, before giving you a gentle but deep kiss.

"I'll go ahead and take that as a compliment. But can you unzip for me?"

You ask once you break apart, and he nods as his hand gently traces up your back, finding the zipper on the dress you wore before undoing it for you.

Finally starting the shower, you let your dress slip off your shoulders before hopping in, letting the hot water run over you. It felt great.

"Care to join me?"

You playfully ask, and not long after he does, just resting his chin on the top of your head and sighing while his mop of raven hair quickly becomes wet.

A hot shower always recharged L's batteries just right, and it was really nice to just relax with him for a little while after such a busy event. To be able to forget about everything around you, and just enjoy each other's company and the lovely hot water.

Normally, if you took a shower together you were occupied with...Other things, but tonight you were doing nothing but silently recharging with one another after a long night of spending social energy.

After quite a long while, well after the bathroom had turned into something akin to a strawberry body wash scented steam room sauna, you step out and wrap up in soft towels before finally changing into comfortable pjs.

"I don't know about you, but Im probably going to go to bed pretty soon."

You smile, and you feel a towel being put on your head and two gentle hands drying your hair.

"I might go catch up on a bit of work for a little while. Is that alright?"

L asks gently, and you tilt your head.

"Of course. The least I can do in return for you coming to a wedding with me is let you be your workaholic self for a little while."

You tease, turning around and grabbing the two sides of the towel draped over his head before pulling him down to your level and kissing his cheek.

"Just make sure that if you feel tired come to bed okay? You deserve it and probably need it more than you think. So no making coffee at two am tonight, deal?"

You ask, and he allows a small smile to curve on his lips before he squeezes your hands.

"Deal."

"Good. Goodnight then L, I'll see you in the morning."

You smile, allowing your lips to meet quickly before finally going your separate ways for the night.

"Hey,"

You call down the hall before you close the door to your bedroom, and you see L turn toward you, bringing his thumb to his lip.

"Love you."

You say, and he smiles softly before he responds.

"I love you too."

He answers, before you finally close the door behind you to try and get some sleep.

~♡~Two hours later~♡~

You had spent awhile in bed half trying to sleep and half scrolling on your phone looking at various social media. Odd that with how tired you were after a big event like a wedding, it was hard to finally sleep. Eventually, after unsuccessfully resting for another half hour or so, you decide to see if L wanted some company.

Stepping out to the living room, you see him typing away on his computer doing who-knows-what, completely absorbed in whatever he was doing.

Deciding not to scare him even though you were extremely tempted, you tiptoe over to the kitchen and prepare a slice of cake for him before quietly making your way back, gently placing it next to him.

Surprisingly, he didn't notice at all.

Pushing it slightly further, he finally pauses before looking over to the cake and then to you, almost jumping out of his skin.

"Sorry if I scared you."

You giggle, and he sighs while he relaxes again.

"You're lucky you didn't give me a heart attack. You're not working for Kira are you?"

He jokes, and you laugh lightly before sitting next to him.

"What are you doing up (y/n)? I thought you would have been asleep by now."

He asks, a tiny bit of concern in his tone while he stops typing for just a second.

"I missed you and couldn't really get to sleep. That's all."

You answer, resting your chin on his shoulder as you feel that the tips of his hair were still a tiny bit damp.

"Are you planning on stopping anytime soon?"

You ask, and he pauses, thinking for a moment before answering.

"Probably not for the next few hours. I'm sorry, if I could I would come to bed with you, but..."

He trails off, and you kiss his cheek, stopping him from saying more.

"That's okay, I understand it's important. Just dont overwork yourself, and promise I can at least wake up with you tomorrow morning. Keeping yourself healthy is much more important than you give it credit for, and you need your sleep to stay sharp."

You softly lecture with a smile, and he reaches upward and touches your hair lovingly, not taking focus off the screen in front of him.

"Of course."

"But...Would you mind if I hung out with you for a little bit?"

You ask, and he nods as you relax into his shoulder.

"Of course not sweetheart. There isn't anything wrong is there?"

"No. I just want to be close for a bit."

You answer, shifting a little and looking up toward him.

"I'm sure."

He says, letting his cheek rest on your head. Things between you were silent for a few moments, before you feel L shift slightly - his slender hand still playing with your hair.

"(y/n).."

He begins, causing you to gently lift your head off his shoulder.

"Hm?"

"...Let's get married."

He softly continues while he holds you close, causing you to be taken off guard.

"...What?"

You ask, glancing up.

"You heard me."

He softly continues, meeting your gaze.

"Stop, you're not serious. I just brought you some cake, no need to propose over it."

You laugh as you sit up and push his shoulder gently, and he seems only slightly unamused.

"Its not about cake...Even though that certainly is a bonus. But regardless of cake, I am serious, (y/n). You're the one of the only people I have ever trusted completely. Over the years we have been together you have been my companion, friend, and love of my life."

He says as if he were explaining the cold hard facts of a case, and you can't help but feel your heart turn to mush while he slides his hand to yours and interlaces your fingers.

"I wasn't expecting going to a wedding would put this idea in your head so quickly. I love you too, but where is all this coming from?"

You ask, still not taking it completely seriously while he places one of his index fingers to his lips.

"I'm not entirely sure, but I suppose everything we did today got me thinking. But I definitely know that I don't want to be with anyone else, and I know that I would have asked eventually anyway so....Why not now?"

He states casually while you can't help but smile uncontrollably.

"I wouldn't want to be with anyone else either."

You laugh, and fall into silence as you look up into the deep grey eyes hidden by dark hair that were always so difficult to read.

"Well...? You still haven't given me a full answer yet...If you would like we can wait until tomorrow to talk about this more. I wouldn't mind you know."

He says as he holds your hands gently, and you smile before grabbing his cheeks, pressing your lips together.

"Yes, you big dork."

You laugh, before letting your lips meet again, draping your arms around his slender frame.

Of course L would pop the question at three in the morning in your pjs, with no ring or planning involved. Bringing him cake was serious business, apparently.
