~*~

You were pacing frantically around your house, positive pregnancy test in hand. How would you tell him? Were you even ready for children? Did L even want any right now? You think of this as you contemplate taking another to make sure, but you knew that chances were you were indeed pregnant. You felt sick in the morning, have been slightly more moody lately, and on top of that you've been eating the strangest things together. You then dart your eyes down to the small piece of plastic momentarily, and you take a deep breath as you study the lines. You knew that you both wanted children eventually, but the question was: how would he react to it being so sudden? He should probably had seen this coming. He was the one who...Never mind.

Just before you can begin planning for what you would say, you hear the door to your home click, followed by someone coming in.

"Sweetheart, I'm home."

You hear L call out as he comes into the living room. You immediately hide the test behind your back as you lean against the kitchen counter, and you take a deep breath, preparing yourself to tell him.

"H-hi honey."

You stammer as he enters the kitchen, and he tilts his head slightly as he places his index finger to his lips.

"(y/n), is something wrong? You're acting strangely."

He says as he walks over to you, placing a hand on your waist. Of course he could tell immediately that you were hiding something.

"W-well...There's something I just found out today that I need to tell you."

"Yes...?"

"Um...Y-you remember a few weeks ago when we..."

"Mhm..."

He hums as he inches closer, probably already predicting what you would say next.

"Well I...Here."

You say as you hand the test over to him, and he looks closely at it before he darts his eyes back to you, seemingly surprised and almost scared.

"A-are you sure it's..."

"Yea."

He spends a few seconds completely still before he smiles almost ear to ear, looking over to you as tears start forming in his eyes. Before any thought process could happen, he had you tightly wrapped in his arms as he kisses your cheek over and over again.

"(y/n), I'm so happy. I can't wait to start a family with you."

He says as he looks towards you, giving you a small but loving kiss.

"I-I can't wait either. I just wasn't sure how you would react.

You say as you smile uncontrollably.

"You know that just today I was going to talk to you about this. We have been married for over five years, I thought it might've been time anyway."

"I'm so glad you think so."

You state as you hug him tightly, feeling tears building up inside you.

"So, what do you think? Are they going to be a boy or girl?"

L asks excitedly as he places his hand on your tummy.

"It's far too early to be able to tell. I don't even have a bump yet. But what are you hoping for?"

You laugh as you put your hand on his.

"I thought the woman could usually predict the gender...Though...I think a little girl would be perfect."

He smiles as he pecks your cheek.

"We can predict, but not until later during the pregnancy. Plus, I think I want it to be a surprise."

You say as you look up to the ceiling, smiling softly when you realize what was actually happening.

"I'm much too impatient for that. I would really rather know now."

He pouts as he rests his chin on your shoulder.

"L, barely anything has even developed yet. You're forgetting that I'm only probably two or three weeks."

"Well, when can we go to the first ultrasound?"

"In around....Three and a half months? That's usually when people go for the first."

"That's so long....Can we go now? I want to see our child."

He whines as he backs away to look towards you.

"If we go now we will see literally nothing. Don't worry, I'm sure the time will fly by."

You say as you gently push off to give him a small kiss. And boy, did the time ever fly by. Pretty much as soon as you found out, you had blown up like a balloon, and L must've been the most over protective father to be in the entire world. All the way from strictly controlling what you ate during your cravings, to making sure you got enough rest and kept yourself happy and healthy for you and the growing baby.

You thought of this as you munch on a random granola bar, and you look up towards the ceiling as you relax your shoulders just a bit, placing a hand on your ever growing pregnant belly.

"(y/n)? What are you eating?"

L asks as he walks up behind you.

"Must you ask me every time? It's just a granola bar, jeez."

You say as you throw your free hand upward, letting out a small frustrated sigh. Before you can do anything, he gently takes the small snack from you and studies the wrapper closely.

"ugh, at this point I'm going to starve because you won't let me eat anything."

"Too much of anything is bad for the baby. Look, it's got almost twice the sugar content that you need in a small snack such as this."

He says as he taps the nutrient facts label with his slender finger.

"You sure are one to talk. The sugar cravings are probably coming from your genetics too."

You grouchily respond as you cross your arms.

"I understand that you're moody, but you'll be thanking me later. I'll go get you something different to eat, ok?"

He says as he gives you a long kiss on the top of your head.

"I....Ok."

You answer as you mood switches abruptly to extremely lovey dovey. He then smiles as he gives you another peck on your cheek, and he turns to make you something else. As you watch him look for something else that you could eat, you feel a small push, causing you to look down as your eyes light up. Before you can say anything, you feel a large kick, causing you to jump.

"Jesus Christ!"

You yell as you put your hand on your stomach.

"What?! What is it?!"

Your concerned and overprotective husband frantically asks as he rushes over.

"I just got a karate kick."

"The baby is kicking?"

He asks as a large smile forms on his lips. As soon as you realize, you gasp and place your hand on your tummy. L does so as well, and you patiently wait for the next sign that your baby would give you. After around a minuet or so, you feel another small kick, causing you to beam as you looked towards him. After a little bit just smiling without words, you finally hear L speak.

"Isn't it just incredible?"

He states as he keeps his hand on you.

"This whole process...It really never ceases to amaze me. How a child can grow from the size of a cell to a fully functioning person, part of you and part of me...something we made together, a whole new human being we created from practically nothing. To think about the life they will lead...isn't it remarkable? This world is full of so many possibilities for them. Each person and living thing has an entirely unique experience. the sounds they hear...the sights they see...The lives they live are so simple, but at the same time so complex."

He sighs as he lays down and rests his head on your tummy, now seeming to be speaking to the child itself.

"I can't wait for you to join us."

He says, and you wipe your eyes before you touch your hand to your husband's hair.

"I can't wait either."

You say as you look up to the ceiling.

~*~a few weeks later~*~

You were going to your first ultrasound. Excited, you squeeze L's palm in yours as you both smile uncontrollably. You would finally see your little child for the very first time. As soon as your name is called, you both quickly make your way to the room where they preformed them. As soon as you get into the small quiet room, the doctor greets you both and lets you lie down, soon getting all the things ready to preform the ultrasound. After a little bit of just waiting as the doctor gets everything in order, the small monitor was finally placed on your tummy, and you clasp your husband's hand as you look at the screen.

"Alright, where are you....oh, here we are. Can you see?"

The doctor asks as she holds it in one spot, letting you lay eyes on your little baby for the first time.

"You can hear the heartbeat, and see the movement just a little."

She continues, and you and L were both completely silent, quite frankly amazed that you were seeing your baby for the very first time. After a little more looking around while she checked up on a few things, she holds it in one spot again as she quickly jots some things down on a clipboard.

"So, here's the news I'm sure you both would like to hear. you're going to be expectin-"

"Wait, we want it to be a surprise."

You smile as you squeeze your husband's palm for a moment.

"Oh, alright then. No problem with that."

She says as she moves the monitor again, and she checks on a few other small things before speaking.

"Well, they are extremely healthy, and there is absolutely no sign at all that indicates you should be worrying one bit. So just keep up with the normal schedule, lots of rest, making sure to eat right...I'm sure you both know the drill by now."

She smiles as she turns to print the small photo, soon giving it over once it had developed.

"Anyway, here's your photo, your due date should be anywhere in between April 8th to the 14th. I'll see you again in a few weeks, so until then, take care. If there's any problems make sure to call."

She says as you just begin to get ready to go.

You swore, you just couldn't take your eyes off of that picture that the doctor gave you.

~*~a few uneventful months later~*~

You were going to work for the last day until you were going to take your maternity leave, and you sigh as you realize just how fast this all went by. It was only roughly 2 weeks until your due date, and you place your hand on your now extremely large tummy.

"Jeez, I'm almost going to miss being pregnant."

You say as you enter the building, your husband holding your hand.

"Are you really?"

L asks as he holds the door open for you, and you let out a light laugh.

"Almost."

"Well, maybe one day we can think about siblings."

He states as he places his free thumb to his lips.

"Hmmm...maybe."

You laugh as you enter the large interface room, and once you slowly sit down and get relatively comfortable, you instinctively place one hand on your tummy as you stared at the various screens and started to get to your last bit of work. After a little while, everyone else arrives to the task force building and greets you both.

"So, last day huh?"

One of your coworkers asks as they come up behind you. You nod in response, and you let out a long sigh as you shift just a little.

"Yea. It all went by so fast. It feels like we only just found out, and now..."

You trail off, softly smiling as you look down.

"So, when will we get to meet the little guy?"

They then ask, and L looks over before speaking.

"Girl."

He corrects, causing you to laugh as you shake your head.

"We don't know the gender, but he's so set on a girl I can't convince him otherwise. I think I'm feeling boy though."

You reply as you playfully crinkle your nose.

"Anyway...Probably a few weeks after the baby is born. We'll tell all of you, then L and I will probably take some time to settle down...Then...Yea, when we can, we'll bring him in for you all to see."

You say just to bug L.

"It's a girl."

He answers as he types on his keyboard.

"Mhm. Says the guy who was telling me that the woman could predict."

"I am very good at being right (y/n). It is my job after all."

He says as he looks towards you, and you playfully stick your tongue out in response. The rest of the afternoon went by as it normally did, with you sometimes feeling a kick or two that took you out of your focus on working. And just as soon as the day started, it had ended. After saying goodbye to everyone and they all wished you good luck with your new child, you were on your way to go home. And just like that, you were off of work for a good month or so.

Well, maybe not off work completely, because you would be taking care of a newborn that relied on constant care, but at least you didn't have to work on boring cases all day anymore.

A mere few days into your leave, you decided you really were sick of being pregnant. Your back was almost always sore, you could barely ever get comfortable, and you were really just ready to have the kid already. You really did think that this whole process did drag out for way longer than it needed to.

"This sucks."

You groan as you push a hot wheels car across your tummy, honestly ready to be over and done with this whole deal. In movies it always seemed like such a blissful time, but in all honesty it was so tiring.

"Think of it this way: we only have maybe a week or two left of waiting before we meet our beautiful little baby."

L says as he scrolls through various websites about how to take care of a newborn. You sigh as you look out the window, and you stare at the just blooming cherry blossoms just outside your home.

"What a lovely time of year this is. It's too bad when the baby is born all the cherry blossoms probably will be gon-"

You stop midway through your sentence as you were interrupted by your water breaking.
