Please note; this is a continuation of the undercover mission Au, but you dont neccicarily need to read that first in order for this to make sense.

It had been a few months since you were hired on the task force. It was an amazing opportunity to work right under L, and you were hand picked because you were that good at what you do. You were top of your class in detective and law enforcement training, and were ecstatic to be joining the top team in the force against Kira.

In that time, you had become rather close with L, especially since the undercover mission you two went on when you first started. Your relationship was semi-romantic, but never really progressed further than just an interest, skimming dangerously close to 'friends with benifits' territory without fully crossing the line on either side. The absolute most you would do is go to his room after work and spend the night cuddling like you did at the hotel after your mission. Very rarely you would kiss him on the cheek, but casual making out was more common than you thought it would be. Hence the 'close to but not quite friends with benefits' territory.

The point was, you werent official, and nobody even knew about your half relationship that was in a weird state of limbo.

You absentmindedly think of this while you prepare for a detectives seminar you would perform, as part of training for the new people joining the force. Just as you were finishing your power point and index cards, you hear someone walk up next to you, and place a coffee next to your strewn papers on your desk.

"Working hard, I see."

You hear L's voice say, before he sits down next to you.

"Heh, yea. I'm just finishing up. If we're lucky we might get more recruits to work with us."

You smile, and he sips his coffee as he pulls a slice of cake toward him.

"That's good. It is this afternoon after all."

He says, taking a bite.

"Yea. I cant believe it really. I'm excited but nervous, you know?"

You say, finally saving the final version of your presentation. After an hour or two went by, you excuse yourself to get ready to go.

You had dressed sharp, in a well fitted white collared shirt and black pencil skirt that made your hips and waist look great. You also wore some brown sheer stockings and a short pair of heels, putting your hair up in a messy bun to complete. You looked great, but it was modest enough that you still held up a professional style.

Gathering up your laptop and everything you needed for the presentation, you double check that you have everything before you head downstairs.

"Wow (y/n) you look..great!"

You hear one of the task force members say, and you smile while letting out a small giggle.

"Thank you."

You laugh, and see L look towards him with an expression of slight annoyance. Being the only woman on the whole team of men, you sometimes got a little 'attention' from the others, such as compliments, and offers to buy you lunch or a coffee. You didnt really care, usually brushing it off as nothing more than harmless flirting. But since L came slightly into the picture, you never said yes.

Getting ready to go, you pack everything up before leaving to the police headquarters across the city. L would be overlooking the seminar with you, giving pointers on what to mention and how to speak publicly. Of course, he couldn't be there in person, and instead would be seeing through the camera of your laptop while he had a small mic in your ear.

When you arrive, you get to the room and see just how many seats were there.

"Wow.."

You mumble, setting up the laptop and connecting with L in hq and putting the wire into your ear.

"Are you all set up?"

He asks, and you pause for only a second.

"Yep, pretty much. Can you see from the camera?"

~♡~L's POV~♡~

"yes, just give me one moment."

I say, pressing a few buttons before the image of the auditorium pops up.

"I can see now. Move me back just a little though, I need to be able to see all the rows. About a foot should be more than enough."

I ask, hardly paying attention as I pour some coffee and add sugar to my liking.

"Sure, no problem."

She chirps, and I stir it and take a sip before looking up.

She was pushing the laptop back a bit, leaning forward in the process. This angle gave a clear view down her shirt, and I almost choke before and immediately look away, feeling my face warming.

"You okay? And is this a good spot?"

She asks, and I look up again as she stands.

"Yes, that's perfect. And I'm fine, yes."

I say after regaining composure, and she sets the power point up before the entourage of rookie detectives start flowing in.

As she greets them while she stands on the center stage, I cant help but see them nudging each other and gesturing towards (y/n), obviously commenting.

"Who's the hot new girl? Damn, hopefully this lasts awhile, I'm liking the view already."

I just manage to hear one of them say, making me tense as I cant help but feel a pang of anger and the desire to just hide (y/n) from this room of rookie cops and detectives.

Once everyone settles and the lights dim ever so slightly, she clears her throat as the room get silent.

"Alright. Good morning everyone. I'm agent (l/n), and I am currently working with the core team on the kira investigation."

She opens, obviously nervous, but practiced.

"So, through this high level of work, I'm lucky enough to get to work with and alongside L, as you all know to be the world's greatest detective. Today, I'm bringing with me some techniques and core concepts when concerning something as dangerous as the Kira investigation, and how we gain information based on criminal patterns, as well as delving into how a criminal mind works based on obsevations made on thier actions."

She says, and walks across the stage, clicking the button to change the slide.

"This all begins with basic observations. Kira began as, as far as we knew, just a random string of heart attacks that was strange, but didnt pop up any red flags immediately. Of course, nobody had the possible notion yet that it was someone behind this, even if it seemed strange and quite unlikely. That was, until, a pattern began to form. The killings actually matched an average high school schedule, and began to show signs of experimentation, as you can see with the string of prisoner deaths that all had something in common: they were testing limits of what Kiras victims can physically and psychologically accomplish before dying. From this, L determined that Kira was in fact a person, and this power is new. And, killing two birds with one stone, found he was able to kill without being there, he can determine cause leading up to death, and that he was in the Kanto Region of Japan. Pretty impressive for a first look."

She continues, flipping the slide again. She was doing amazing, and obviously had practiced hard before this.

"But this begs the question, is what Kira is doing right in any capacity? And what motivates him? The exact way he kills hasn't been determined, but we can answer the first two by..."

She begins, and I zone out a little and look towards the audience. Only a few were taking notes, and many were just ogling (y/n) while they whisper to each other. It made my insides burn. They didnt respect her hard work at all, or her credentials. They just wanted some eye candy to stare at for 2 hours, which caused almost a feeling of possessiveness rise up inside me.

The rest of the presentation dragged by while I want nothing more than to just say that they had no right looking at (y/n) like that at all. Even if it wasnt...Official, per se, (y/n) could be considered to be mine. It would irk me to absolutely no end if she got too friendly with one of these guys.

After it ends, she answers questions up close while everyone started to leave. Some dropped thier file off to apply for the position, but was easy to tell some were shamelessly flirting as she answered thier inquiries, one going so far as to give her his number before leaving with a wink. She rolls her eyes at this, and begins to pack up while the last few stragglers leave.

"So? How did I do?"

She asks once the door closes, pulling me from my thoughts.

"O-oh. You did great. We can chat more once your back here. Meet me on my floor, okay?"

I answer, and she nods.

"Sounds good. I'll see you then."

She says, and we both disconnect.

~♡~Your POV~♡~

When you get back to headquarters after a long traffic filled travel across the rainy city, you immediately get up to L's floor to see what he thought about the recruits.

"Personally, I dont kmow if any of them are fit to join our effort."

He says, jabbing his fork into a pastry he had in front of him.

"Huh? Why not? I thought it went extremely well. Look how many people dropped thier files off to apply."

You say questioningly as you pass over a thick folder, and he sighs.

"You did well, but I cant say I can appreciate all those rookies hounding you like dogs. Dont they know who you are?? And who your wit- I mean - working with?"

He snaps, making you laugh very slightly.

"Well..As bad as it sounds, its a way to get them to join, I suppose."

You sigh, leaning against the counter as you take your hair down, running your hand through it while you relax.

"I dont think so. I'll take it upon myself to sift through resumes and files of applicants, but dont expect many to pass the test."

He huffs, and you frown.

"L, I worked so hard on that presentation. It doesn't feel too good when you say it'll be for absolutely nothing."

You say, saddened by his attitude.

"Precicely. I don't want it to be for nothing. That's why I'd rather have absolutely nobody join the force rather than some guy who does nothing but stare at you all day."

He says, and you sigh.

"I know. Its definetly not ideal, and I wouldnt like that either. But you have to realize our team is getting smaller. At this point we dont have too much room turning down anyone willing to join. The Kira case is dangerous, and more help is better than none."

You retort, and he looks away to his plate, poking it around.

"Why do you care so much anyway...? I'm a little bothered, yes, but think about what I said just before. How come this is such a huge deal?"

You ask, and he huffs again.

"I just get annoyed if you get attention from other men."

He sighs, jabbing at the pastry a bit more before eating a peice.

"Awe... oh no."

You laugh, and he crosses his arms.

"Its not funny."

He says bluntly, and you hold back a giggle.

"It kind of is.."

You say, and he obviously gets irritated.

"Well how would you like it? If the roles were reversed?"

He huffs again, and you walk over before hugging him from behind briefly.

"Dont be silly."

You laugh, and slip around the sofa before sitting next to him, pulling his arm around you.

"Would it be safe to assume that someone's....Jealous?"

You tease, and he tenses.

"I'm not Jealous, (y/n), I'm just possessive over you sometimes. Especially when it comes to other guys."

"You literally just described the term jealously."

You say, laughing lightly.

"Alright! Fine, yes."

He finally confesses, and you tsk as you sigh.

"Oh no. Poor baby."

You say, cupping his cheek.

"Well...You're really the only one I want attention from anyway. You probably saw me roll my eyes at that guy."

You say, kissing his cheek softly. Surprised by this but knowing what he wanted instead, and wanting to assert himself for you, he moves over and meets your lips with his. A few moments pass while he softly kisses you, and he soon pulls off before speaking.

"(y/n)...I want to call you mine. Only mine. Officially."

He says, making your heart flutter.

"You're smart, y-you're beautiful, and you're one of the best damn detectives I've had walk through my doors. W-would you-"

"Yes."

"What?"

"Yes. I've been waiting so long for you to say something. Since the mission it's been pretty unclear what we were."

You say, and he laughs very lightly before pulling your lips together, kissing you in a different and more loving way, truly showing his feelings toward you in that one gesture.

"I promise to make you happy (y/n).."

He mumbles, and you smile in between his kisses.

"You already do."

You answer, holding him close while you think about how finally, that line had been crossed on the side that was much preferred over 'friends with benefits'.
