It was a regular school day, which was boring, dull, and overall living hell. As it always was. You had managed to get through the first section of the day, and you were just getting to your final class, which was math. Setting down your things, you sigh as you pull out your chair and open up the bag of sour gummy worms you had been saving. Not long after you got there, the other students started to filter in, getting their books and pens out to begin working as they casually chatted with one another. After it seemed as if everyone was there, the teacher gets up from his desk, tapping his papers before clearing his throat.

"Alright, is everyone here?"

He says sternly as chatting in the room silences, and just before he was about to continue, another student with jet black hair and baggy clothes quietly rushes in the room, only a pencil and textbook in hand.

"Late again?"

The teacher says, drumming his fingers on the desk.

"S-sorry. I...I was...never mind."

He mumbles back as he takes the only free seat left in the class, which was next to you. After he took his seat, There was silence for awhile as the teacher then began reviewing last nights homework, and you take a look over at the person beside you. He was seemingly not paying attention, and Looking up to his face, you immediately notice small scratches and bruises here and there, and one of his hands on his stomach.

"Hey um...are you ok...?"

You gently ask, making him nearly jump out of his skin.

"Yea. I-I'm fine. I just forgot to eat lunch today."

He mumbles quickly, looking down. You raise an eyebrow in response, and he looks over just for a second with two deep grey eyes.

"O-oh, here, take these then. You must be starving."

You say as you take out your gummies, putting them down on his desk.

"Wh-really?"

He asks, his eyes slowly widening.

"Yep. Sorry I already ate most of them."

You giggle, and his eyes stay slightly wide in response.

"That's fine. Thank you..."

He trails off, and you slightly smile.

"(y/n)."

You sweetly say, and he nods. The teacher then begins the boring lecture about some kind of graphing, and slowly but surely, the lesson finally ends. Muttering a small 'finally', you stretch as you carelessly shove tonight's homework in your textbook and snap your binder closed, looking over to the boy beside you momentarily. Taking in his appearance, he seemed....Awfully tense. He then gets up before quickly thanking you for the gummies again, and pretty much darting out of the room. You thought it was a little strange, but shrug it off anyway, glad that at least the day was over.

Well, maybe not over completely, because you had to go to the library to study for a science test that was tomorrow, and like always, you had left preparing for it until the last second possible. Yawning softly, you get everything out of your locker plus all your science work, figuring it would be easier just to have all your stuff for when you were ready to go home.

As you were walking over to the library, you just happen to see the same boy from your math class, backed up against the wall as another kid from the school was in front of him, holding his shoulder against the wall as he obviously gets ready to hit him.

"I-I don't have it right now!"

He stammers, and the person in front of him holds his shoulder tighter, making him flinch.

"Bullshit."

He snaps, and you stop as your eyes narrow.

"J-just give me another day. Or I'll...I'll-"

"Or what? You're going to go tell your parents?"

He says in a snarky tone, and the person from your class obviously shifts to complete anger.

"Take that back!"

He yells, and you see the kid's fist clench, and the boy who sat next to you shut his eyes and brace for impact.

Not wanting to let that kind of thing slide, you turn on your heel and without thinking twice you storm up to that jerk, giving a swift and hard uppercut to his jaw. He staggers backwards for a moment as he clutches his face in his hand, and you act quickly and follow up with an extremely hard kick to the groin. You then watch as he keels over in pain, and you relax a little bit and look over to the boy from your math class, who was wide eyed as he watched you.

"Are you ok..?"

You manage to ask, surprised at your own reaction.

"Y-Yea. I'm fine..."

He says making you smile.

"Good....But....Come on, Let's go."

You then say, quickly walking over and grabbing his hand.

"W-where?"

"Home."

You answer, forgetting about studying. It's not like you would've gotten any done anyway.

You then walk towards the door, interlocking your fingers while you shake the pain out of your other hand, realizing that punching someone actually hurt quite a bit. He makes a small noise out of surprise as you do this, and you look over as you keep walking with his hand tightly in yours.

"...Home...?"

He questions, and you nod.

"Yes. We need to hurry though, or else we'll miss the bus."

You answer as you pick up your pace, almost running to the big yellow vehicle that was just starting up, forgetting about studying. It's not like you would've gotten any done anyway.

"O-ok."

He mumbles as he follows, and you get there just in time. It was almost full, but luckily you found an empty two person seat up near the front of the bus.

"Alright..."

You sigh as you pull him down next to you, making sure not to let go of his hand quite yet.

"Are you sure you're ok?"

You ask, and he quickly nods.

"I-I feel fine. Thank you (y/n)."

He stammers as his hand tightens around yours.

"That's good."

You smile, taking his free hand gently into yours.

"Your hands are very soft."

He then says, making you slightly surprised.

"T-thank you...?"

You stammer, and he looks upward as a tiny bit of pale pink graces his cheeks.

"I-I mean...um..."

He attempts to say, but you let out a soft giggle that silenced him.

"Hey, it's ok."

You laugh, and he smiles bashfully in response.

"But...I can't help but notice that you don't have a coat today."

You then continue, changing the subject while you drown out the other kids on the bus.

"Oh...um, well, I didn't get a chance to go to my locker after school. I wanted to get out of there as soon as I could."

He mumbles, and your face obviously shifts to sadness, because he had noticed and tensed up.

"B-but I'm fine! I swear!"

He says, obviously trying to make you feel better.

"You always say that, but.."

You begin, taking your thick grey scarf off and gently wrapping it around his shoulders.

"I'm not so certain it's completely true."

You continue, making sure the large cozy piece of fabric stayed on his shoulders. It's then silent for awhile, until he looked as if he realized something, and dug into his backpack at lightning speed.

"No...did I forget the math homework?!
T-they're gunna kill me for this.."

He says, obviously starting to panic.

"Hey..."

You say softly, and he looks upward.

"They won't. I'll make sure of it."

You say and he looks down before fidgeting with his fingers.

"How will you...."

"I'll stay with you tomorrow and literally end their lives if they try anything."

You sweetly say, and he nods before looking down towards his feet.

"But...Anyway, I don't think I know your name yet."

You smile, and he looks back upward.

"My name...?"

He questions, and you tilt your head.

"You do have one don't you?"

You gently tease, and he places his index finger to his lips before he answers.

"I suppose...You can just call me L."

He says, and you smile as you say a soft 'alright'.

After a long and mostly silent walk after you got off the bus, you got to your house, punch in the code for the door and take L inside, sitting him down on the couch while you look into his deep dark eyes.

"So....How long has this been going on for?"

You ask, letting your eyes trace down to the bruises around his face. He shrugs shyly as his eyes slip away, and you sigh.

"L."

You say, cupping his cheek and making him flinch.

"Please tell me."

You ask, and he sighs before fidgeting with his hands.

"Since....never mind."

He answers meekly, and you sigh before you get up.

"I'm going to go get some hot chocolate and snacks for the both of us, ok? Let's settle in before we chat some more."

You say softly, and he nods. You didn't take long at all to organize the things you needed, and after maybe five minutes, you exit the kitchen.

"Here."

You smile as you gently put a nice hot cup of cocoa in his hands.

"Do you also want whip cream?"

You gently ask, and he nods.

"Good."

You hum as you lean over, putting a hefty amount of the sweet and light confection into his cup. You then turn to the kitchen again, and you pick up a plate of chocolate mint cookies that you made just yesterday. Putting them down in front of him, you notice a small spark in his deep eyes, as well as a tiny smile crossing his lips.

"Go ahead and try one. I made them yesterday instead of doing on my homework."

You laugh, and he shyly smiles as he takes one from the pile.

"You're incredibly kind."

He says as he breaks the cookie in half and takes a small bite, soon finishing the whole thing off.

"How are they?"

You ask while you sip your hot chocolate, and he looks upwards before giving a genuine smile.

"They're delicious. Do you mind if I..."

"Have as many as you would like."

You smile, and he gladly picks up another while you happily keep him company. Soon enough, your eyes trace to the small cuts and bruises on his face, and you feel a small wave of sadness wash over you as you slowly get up.

"I'll be back in just a second, ok?"

You say as you put your drink down, venturing over to the washroom. When you return to the living room, you had a bottle of disinfectant, along with cotton pads, some band aids, and a small tube of polysporin.

"I can't help but notice those cuts on your face."

You say as you open up the small bottle of disinfectant, putting it onto a cotton pad. He shifts a bit, and you sigh.

"Which...brings me to my last question. How long have they been hurting you...?"

You ask, and he fidgets with his fingers and looks away.

"Ah...Actually...It's ok if you would rather not answer. But...I'm guessing awhile huh...?"

You say as you screw the cap onto the disinfectant, and he nods sheepishly. You then sigh as you shift closer, and you angle his cheek towards you and push the small pad up against his skin, making him flinch.

"Ow."

He mutters as the cotton pad makes contact with one of the cuts.

"Sorry. I don't mean for it to hurt."

You respond quietly, and he flinches again when you move to a different spot.

"It's just...You need to clean them if you want them to heal properly."

You say as you look up into his grey pools, just as you were finishing up.

"There, the worst part is all done. That wasn't so bad, was it?"

You ask, and he smiles sheepishly.

"Thank you (y/n)."

He mumbles, pulling his hand to the back of his raven hair.

"It's no problem at all."

You hum, opening up the polysporin and gently coating each cut with it. After you finish, you gently tear open a band-aid.

"Here."

You almost whisper, peeling off the backings on it and placing it on his cheek.

"Is that better?"

You ask, and he nods as he smiles lightly, obviously getting a little more comfortable.

You then spend the rest of the evening chatting about a different topic and getting to know one another as L slowly but surely demolished over half the cookies you made, and before you knew it, it had gotten rather late.

"It's getting kinda dark out..."

You say, and he looks out the window before nodding.

"Yea....It is.."

He answers, looking down towards the now empty mug in his hands.

"I...I don't have a way to get back home."

He then shyly mumbles, fidgeting with his fingers.

"Ah...Don't worry, ok?"

You say before you move your hand to touch his, giving it a soft squeeze before you go to the coat closet, pulling out a nice old coat of your brothers and passing it over.

"Put this on."

You sweetly say, and he does so. You then wrap his shoulders in your scarf again, before putting on your own coat and taking his hand, leading him outside.

"Where are we going?"

He innocently asks as he interlocks your fingers, obviously growing fond of the whole hand holding.

"The bus stop. There should be one going where you need to get to."

You say, squeezing his hand in yours only for a second. After you got there, you wait silently together hand in hand for the bus to come.

"Ah...It's so cold out tonight.."

You mumble after a little while, and L looks over before he gets a bit closer, running his hand on your arm.

"Are you cold?"

He asks, and you nod as you fidget a little. After a little bit of silence, you feel soft fabric being wrapped around your shoulders, and someone pulling you into their chest. Looking up, you see that L was sharing the scarf with you now, and he had you bound in his arms as he kept his eyes forward.

"I-It was the only Thing I could think of."

He mumbles shyly, making you giggle as you playfully nuzzle into his chest.

"Thank you."

You say softly before resting your cheek on his chest, hearing that his heart rate had increased. You then spend the rest of your small wait in silence as you gently hugged, and soon enough the bus arrives. You were a little disappointed as it pulls up, knowing that you had to let go of him in just a few moments.

"Ok, here's some bus money. Make sure to text me when you get home ok? I won't stop worrying otherwise."

You say, squeezing his hand in yours.

"Ok."

He almost whispers, and you hum in happiness as a response. You then slip out of the scarf, and you gently smile while the doors open.

"I'll see you at school on Monday, ok?"

You gently say while your hands just begin to slip away, and you softly tighten your hand around his again while you look up. He stops and looks over, and you take the opportunity to press your lips together very gently, and only for a moment.

L.exe has stopped working.

"Bye."

You then whisper before smiling, turning away.

When you get to school on Monday, you walk to your locker absently, still only half awake. When you turn the corner of the hallway, you see L leaning against your locker, looking towards his phone as you approached. He didn't seem to notice you, and once you finally get there, you clear your throat before he looks up, almost jumping out of his skin.

"Hi."

You sweetly say, and he swallows hard before he turns towards you, looking down.

"U-um...hi.."

He mumbles, and you smile as you gesture your head to your locker, which he was standing in front of.

"O-oh! Sorry."

He stammers, practically jumping out of the way. You let out a small laugh as you step to your little combination lock, and you quickly undo it before taking your backpack off.

"So...what brings you to my locker?"

You ask, and he tenses slightly before looking towards you.

"(y-y/n)...I was...thinking about what happened a few nights ago a-and....I..."

He begins to stammer, and you tsk before you cup his face gently.

"Calm down a little, alright?"

You tease, and he sighs before looking into your eyes with his deep and mysterious ones.

"Now, what about a few nights ago?"

You ask, and he tenses slightly before looking down towards his hands.

"I was just thinking about when...we um.. we-"

He begins to stammer, and you softly interrupt him by pecking his lips for only a second.

"You mean that?"

You ask as you giggle softly, and he nods sheepishly as he looks at you.

"What about it?

You say, and he takes a deep breath before taking your hand in his, pulling you forward slightly before he shifts just a bit.

"I...well..."

He says, obviously trying to place his words carefully. After obviously being a little unsuccessful in articulating what he wanted to say, he sighs softly, he cups your cheek before pushing your lips together very gently, making you more than just a little surprised. After only a moment however, you melt into it along with him, and he takes just a few more seconds before carefully pulling away, touching your foreheads together.

"I just wanted to thank you (y/n)...for being so kind to me..."

He mutters, kissing your cheek delicately.

"But....I want to properly thank you as well...by...Taking you somewhere you like.."

He mumbles shyly, and your eyes slightly widen before you smile.

"I think I would like that..."

You sweetly say, making his shoulders loosen only a little.

"I'm glad you said yes..."

He says, obviously a little more confident when he spoke to you.

"So...this Friday?"

He then asks in a mellow tone as he gently slips his hand to your upper arm.

"Sounds good to me."

You answer, and he gives a genuine smile before squeezing your hand in his.

A few months after your first date, you kept seeing each other almost every weekend until L finally asked you to be his girlfriend on your birthday, which couldn't have made you any happier. He was also a lot more comfortable and less shy than he was before, no longer nervous with speaking to you.

...or afraid to make the first move.
