"Oh my God, this feels so weird. Are you sure I don't look slutty? I mean, everything's so damn tight, and these heels remind me of a damn stripper." Stella stands there laughing at me.

"They're not tight, Kori, they fit. There's a difference, and if you're worried people will realize you have boobs, they already know. The heels are still shorter than mine, but you can't button that shirt all the way up. Here." She fixes my shirt, and now people know I have cleavage.

Not even funny.

"You look like a powerhouse. The highlights in your hair, beach waves, and makeup, really make a difference. Hell, I'd even sleep with you. Between the eyes and the hair, you'll blow their minds away. Just remember to hold your head high and don't let them intimidate you. You intimidate them."

I went through the same thing as yesterday when I arrived, and when I walked up to Miss Carrot top, she asked me who I was again.

"Miss Heart to see Mr. Hardwick."

"No! Wow, Chica, I'm rendered speechless. You've got balls! I like that!" She grins. "I'll let him know you're here." She points at the chairs, and I shake my head no.

"Miss Heart came back and, wow, you may have bitten off more than you can chew this time." She snickered into her headset.

"I'll send her back."

"Go on back, but I do have a word of advice." I sighed, then nodded my head, telling her to go on. "Don't believe the rumors, he won't try to sleep with you, and speak up when he needs to be toned down a notch." She winked at me and I walked away.

I didn't give him the benefit of a light tap this time. I knocked loud enough for carrot top to hear.

"What?" He answered, probably wondering why he didn't hear a gentle tap. I didn't take my time opening the door and walking in.

"HOLY SHIT!" The man I recognize as the one exiting the elevator yesterday jumped out of his chair and stood there like he was in shock. I didn't say a word, but furrowed my eyes at him before looking straight at the asshole I'm determined to shut down. Gavin Hardwick, my newest enemy.

He still sat like a stone-cold statue. "Well, at least you're semi-presentable. Receipts please." He held out his hand, but I shook my head.

"I'm here to do an honest days work, not be your Barbie to play dress up. Keep your money and I'm ready to get started."

The man standing looked frozen in his shoes and looked at Mr. Hardass like he's going to explode.

"Fine, whatever, but I better not see you wear the same thing twice in one week. The expense account is there for you, so I suggest using it. You can at least dip into it for work-related activities outside our normal business hours. If you're ready, have a seat and we will get started."

"I'd rather stand, but thank you." I wasn't giving either of them a chance to see my skirt ride up.

"Just because I told you I wanted you to be less spineless, I didn't mean being insolent. Have a seat, Miss Heart."

Dammit

"This is my younger brother Patrick. He is our VP of Operations. Unfortunately, you will find yourself working with him at times." I shook his hand, and he actually had a soft smile and kind eyes. Patrick also sat and Mr. Hardwick glared at him.

"What are you doing? I thought you were on your way out."

"Oh, right." He stood and held his hand out for mine again. "It was nice to meet you, Miss Heart. May I call you Korilee?" I shook my head. "Kori, and it was nice to meet you."

I tried to pull my hand away, but he held it and just stared at me.

"Patrick!" Mr. Hardwick yelled.

"Oh! Sorry." He let go of my hand. "If you're available for lunch later, I could give you a tour." He said to me.

"She's busy," The asshole snapped at him.

"If you ever need anything, just let me know. I'm only a few doors down." He smiled at me and walked away as I finally took a seat.

"I have your laptop in your office. You are to constantly check my emails, then send me the ones I would want to see. I have my private email already in your address book. Here is a smartphone that you must keep on you at all times. I don't care what time it is, you are to answer it. I want your office organized by the end of the week. I tried to find files, but nothing is where it should be. My schedule is on your phone and also the laptop. I want the profit report ran every single morning and on my desk before I arrive, along with a Vanilla Carmel coffee from the break room. Any questions so far?"

I shook my head no.

"Today I have lunch with a possible investor. You will come with me and take notes, then I have a board meeting at 3 where I will also need you to take notes. I'll show you to your office and you can get started."

Asshole.

He placed his hand on the small of my back, which gave me the creeps or something, because I shivered and jumped away from his touch. He cleared his throat and pulled on his tie before stepping forward. "Fine, follow me then."

He walked me just two doors down and stepped inside. "Please do not use the intercom like carrot top out there. I prefer you use the messenger system on your laptop." He's bent slightly over starting my laptop, so I took the opportunity to take off this damn jacket. I hung my jacket and purse on the hook on my door. I just have to remind myself I am a woman and it's okay to have a figure. Although I see nothing special about my body, my friends urge me to show off my curves.

I turned around and found his eyes giving my body a once over, but as soon as he saw he was caught, he cleared his throat. "I prefer you wear a jacket outside of your personal workspace."

What?

"You aren't wearing yours, and neither was Brenda or Patrick. May I ask why I'm being treated differently?" I adjusted my lanyard with my work ID attached over my neck and he just stood there, staring.

"You have attributes neither of them have, so I'd like to keep my male employees from the distraction."

Again! What?

"Attributes?"

I tilted my head. I know what he's saying, but let's see how uncomfortable I can make the man. As Stella said, I intimidate them. Not the other way around.

He ran his hand down his face and I can see it's working. "Your smirk tells me you know what I'm saying. Do what you want, but when Craig and other men like him are out of line, don't come crying to me. I'm a busy man."

He steps away from my desk. "Remember, I want this office cleaned up by the end of the week. Take some time to familiarize yourself and I already have my coffee and report, but tomorrow I'd like to have them on my desk. I'll swing by about noon for our lunch dat-I mean meeting." He walked away and I slouched into my chair, letting out a breath I didn't realize I was holding.

Gavin is not like this to everyone. Just Kori.
