Blessing

Lunch with my dad was a success and he gave us his blessing. I knew he would, but it was awkward bringing a man to meet Dad. The man that didn't even allow me to go to any dances.

Gavin and Keegan followed me to my place to drop off my car, and I hopped in with them to go to his parents.

Keegan had fallen asleep, so we had a few minutes of quiet time. He held my hand and periodically kissed the back of it. I was more nervous about this dinner than anything else.

"Don't be nervous. They will like you, I promise." He puts the car in park and takes off his seatbelt before leaning over and kissing my cheek.

"Ewe, gross!" Little man starts giggling in the back seat. Busted!

"Kori's your girlfriend." He started laughing.

"Is that okay with you?" Gavin asked.

"Yeah! Then I'll see Father Heart more. That guy has connections, Jesus and Santa!" He kicked his feet in delight.

We both laughed.

Gavin held my hand and Keegan stood in front of us as we waited for someone to open the door to yet another mansion.

"Steph!" Keegan got all excited, and she kneeled down to hug him.

"How is my favorite superhero?"

"I'm great! Daddy's girlfriend is with us and do you know her dad?" Stephanie stepped to the side while Keegan told her all about my dad.

Patrick walked in, so he got sidetracked long enough for me to meet Gavin's stepmother. She is absolutely beautiful, with black hair and big brown eyes. "It's so nice to meet you, Kori. I've heard a lot from both Gavin and Patrick." She hugged me. Okay, this is a good start.

When she let go, Gavin reached for my hand and we followed her to the dining room where they were playing cards and drinking wine. Well, at least Stephanie was, but the guys were drinking whiskey. They offered Gavin one, but he declined.

After all the hello's and a super long hug from Patrick, we settled into our chairs. "Where are Damien and Candace?" Gavin asked.

"Running behind. Candace was waiting for a friend and they were riding together."

Keegan was more than happy on his grandfather's lap while he talked about meeting my dad.

"I knew your father once upon a time. He's a good man and really helped the boys mother after we lost Sarah." Keegan points at a card and he throws it down.

"He just got back from Rome and I know he's ready for mass tomorrow. I think being gone for so long was hard on him."

We kept talking until we heard the doorbell. That's when I heard a familiar irritating voice. "Claudia, it's nice to see you again." I could hear something in Stephanie's voice, hesitance?

Gavin took a deep breath and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Damn, Candace." I heard him say under his breath. They walked in and I had no choice but to shake Candace's hand and be introduced to yet another handsome man, Damien. Wow!

He shook Gavin's hand and slapped Gavin on the shoulder. "Sorry, bro. I tried." He went on and greeted Jake, his stepfather, and Keegan.

"Aunt Candace! Kori is Dads girlfriend and let me tell you about her dad!"

I caught Claudia rolling her eyes and it seems Gavin did too.

"I promised Kori a tour. We'll be right back." He took my hand and led me upstairs, shutting us in the bathroom.

"I cut her out I swear, but she and Candace are close friends." He looked at me with pleading eyes.

"It's not your fault, but does Candace know?" I asked.

"I haven't talked to her, but I did talk to Damien and Stephanie. She isn't happy because she doesn't care for Claudia."

"I know this is the last thing you wanted, Gavin. I'm not angry." He wrapped his arms around me.

"I don't think I told you how beautiful you are yet today." He kissed me, and yet again my legs grow weak.

He lifts me up and sets me on the counter, running his hand up my leg while he kisses me.

He pulls away and rests his head against mine. "I'm not going to make it much longer, Kori."

"I'm not the one stopping you." I kissed him again, and he was getting way too worked up. "Gavin, we better get back downstairs."

Holy cow he takes my breath away.

"You're right." He helped me down, and when he opened the door, Claudia was standing on the other side.

"Real classy, Gavin, but I can't say I'm surprised. That's what happens when you bring in the trash." She smirked.

"Claudia, I swear... no, you know what? Forget what we talked about. You're on your own." He pulled me away.

"You mean I'll be raising our baby alone?"

He stopped in his tracks.

"Kori, can I meet you downstairs?" He doesn't take his eyes off Claudia.

"Sure." I walked away, but I'm not happy.

He started speaking before I was very far away. "That woman is the one, Claudia. I'm not going to lose her because of your lies...."

I won't eavesdrop.

When I got downstairs, Patrick was talking to Damien at the bottom of the steps. "And you believe this bombshell is settling for Gavin?" Patrick laughed, but put his arm around my shoulder.

Damien looked me up and down. "My little brother is a lucky man," Damien said.

"I don't know how lucky, since it seems Claudia is up to her shit again," Patrick said as we heard them arguing.

"I'm just glad he finally figured it out. I think you may be his first sane woman." Damien chuckled and took a swig of his beer.

"She is the least psycho woman I know." Patrick laughed.

"Hands off, boys." I looked up, and Gavin is coming down the steps smiling at me. I swear I'll never get over the way my heart beats when I see him.
