Lance was exhausted, school was as stressful as ever. Not to mention he had a few issues... relationship issues. Could he even call it that? Keith was a boy at school, cool, mysterious, edgy, and unbelievably hot. Lance felt flustered around him and with his emotions getting so easily stirred, it was difficult to control his power.

Lances power and emotions were closely tied, and while usually Lance is skilled in controlling it... Keith made him nervous and lovestruck, which is dangerous.

Lance nearly blew it today. He was at lunch and Keith had sat diagonal to him. Lance, as this was his crush whom he obsessed over, was continuously glancing at him.

"Do you want something?" Keith finally asked.

"Uh-I-e no. I was just..." Lance was panicking.

"Staring." Keith finished.

Lance felt his hands growing warm with energy and light shown from them under the table. He quickly shoved his hands in his pockets and ran to the bathroom quickly. Thankfully, the bathroom was empty. Lance still however, went into a stall locking it.

His hands were filled with a roaring power. Lance rubbed his hands together trying to get it to subside. It would not.

It was bright and the bathroom was lit an aqua blue. Lance used his magic shutting the entrance to the bathroom and locking it. He exited the stall and tried splashing his face; nothing.

Lance sat in the corner of the bathroom waiting. His knees were pulled to his chest and head buried in his arms.

He heard the bell ring twice before he was okay to leave. The glowing was gone and the magic subsided.

Lance made it to class and his friends gave him questioning looks. Hunk who sat next to him wrote on some spiral paper and pushed it to him.

'You okay buddy?'

Lance smiled and wrote 'Yeah, I'm fine.'

You may be wondering, if it's so difficult to control your power, how is it that witches and wizards haven't been discovered before. Well, the reason is, those with magic or abnormal abilities aren't really to go to mortal schools. But Lance loved mortals! They were odd and completely unaware of anything beyond the laws of physics.

But Lance was home now. Safe and free to use his power. He shut his bedroom door, he liked to practice alone.

He pet his cat Blue, rubbing under her chin. Blue was his familiar, there is a partnership, a bond, between them; a contract of sorts that they protect one another. Blue doesn't look it, but he's tough.

Lance sat on the floor at the end of his bed forming a glowing blue ball of light in his hands. Lance tended to lean on the more powerful side of witches and wizards. Many were angered by this and claim its 'a waste' considering all he does is hide his power in his everyday life. At home he was free to do what he wanted, and if he went to a magical school with others like him, he could do the same there.

No way was he going to some stuck up magic academy full of snobby magicians who think they're better than mortals just because they have some 'abilities'.

He threw his ball of power up in the air catching it boarded by his same old room, in his same old house.

He stood up and grabbed his wallet and wand before walking down stairs, Blue trotting close behind.

"Hey mommá! I'm going out for a bit. I'll be home by 8 at the latest." Lance called.

"Alright! Stay safe! You better be taking Blue!" She yelled back from upstairs.

"I am!" And with that, he left.

It was important that he let his mom know where he was, and that he took blue with him wherever he goes (beside school of course). He talked her out of making Blue come with him to school with a good argument and a little bit of luck. Animals couldn't come to school, and he is a grown up wizard after all!

It's a dangerous world for those with magical abilities. There were those who used their powers for evil, mortals who'd been enlightened of the other world and didn't take to kindly to it, and of course, creatures beyond anything you could imagine, only read of in books. No way was he going to die to some wretched goblin. It wasn't uncommon to come across a beast or magical creature but most of the time he could manage on his own. It's just difficult to make sure no one sees his powers. If they do, he has to wipe their memory. Only very close mortals are allowed to know, and it has to be for the greater good.

So Blue tagged along.

"Where exactly are we going?" Blue asked.

"Don't really know yet." Lance replied taking in a deep breath of fresh air. Yes, you can talk to your familiars. But only your familiar unless granted otherwise by the witch or wizard and acceptance of the familiar. Blue wasn't particularly talkative, most of the time he'd just listen.

Suddenly Blue took off running past people ducking and weaving.

"Blue! What's gotten into you?! Where are you going?!" Lance was trying to run after him but the street was busy and was struggling to get past the crowds unlike the small cat.

Lance rounded the corner running. "Blue what are yo-"

Lance froze seeing his familiar nuzzling into the legs of Keith Kogane.

Keith kneeled down and pet him sweetly leaving Lance not yet noticed.

"This is the boy you like, isn't it?" Blue asked kind of smugly. Of course it just sounded like a meow to the short pale boy giving him affection.

"Yes, and you're a dead famil-cat." Lance glared at him and jabbing a finger in his direction.

Keith's eyes flicked from the cat up to Lance. He was taken by surprise and quickly stood up straight. "Sorry, I didn't know this is your cat."

"I-it's fine." Lance picked up blue.

"I brought you here, don't fungi it up." Blue nuzzled into him rubbing his face.

"I guess I'll see you around." Lance smiled lightly.

He felt Blue nip his arm and let out a yelp.

"Oh I'm so going to turn you into a fro-" Lance stopped talking and cleared his throat laughing nervously.

"I actually wanted to apologize." Keith said dismissing how odd Lance was acting.

"Wh-for what?" Lance immediately became entranced with the boy. He nearly dropped blue and felt it better to set him down now. Blue sat neatly at their feet looking between the two of them.

"I didn't mean to be so... rude at lunch earlier. Sorry if I was-" Keith rubbed the back of his neck anxiously.

"Don't be! I wasn't offended or anything, I just remembered I forgot to meet my friends somewhere was all and had to take off." Lance assured.

"Oh." He breathed in looking down at the cat. "Mind if I ask it's name?"

"His name is Blue." Lance smiled.

His familiar glared at him. "Could you ask him out already. I'm freezing my paws of."

"Sorry, I'll hurry up." Lance rolled his eyes but froze. He appeared to be talking to a cat, a cat who can't talk. "I mean, Keith, do-do you want to get coffee or something?"

Keith's hand tugged on his hat nervously. "Yeah, I'd like that."

Lance smiled.

"Wait right now?" Blue asked pacing at Lances feet.

"There's a coffee place just down the street." Keith offered.

"Sounds perfect." Lance ignored his familiars nip at his leg in retaliation.

Blue didn't like to be ignored. He scratched Lances leg, not to rough, just enough to get his attention. "Ah! Muggle F'er. You little-"

Keith began to laugh. "Are you really into Harry Potter or something?"

"Uh, sure. I mean yeah!" Lance picked up his familiar zipping him up inside his coat. "Sorry, his paws are cold."

"You're damn right they are." Blue glared.

Keith chuckled, "Did he tell you that?"

Lance felt his heart drop, did Keith know?

"Relax, he's kidding." Blue assures.

"You know, he did. He also told me that you have gorgeous eyes. Blue's words not mine." Lance smiled flirtatiously.

"Is that so?" Keith raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah, is that so?" Blue growled.

Lance rolled his eyes pushing Blues face away from his. "Let us have a moment."

"What?" Keith's eyebrows knitted together.

"What?" Lance blinked.

"Can I go home?" Blue asked bored.

"Be my guest." Lance set him down.

Blue began to casually walk back in the direction of home.

"Your cat?" Keith said concerned.

"Don't worry, he's an outdoor cat and knows the way home." Lance smiled assuringly.

"Okay."

The two walked into the small coffee shop and sat at a table together letting themselves warm up from the chilled weather.

They talked for a while and Lance checked the time. "I promised my mom I'd be home by 8 and it's 7:34." Lance said worriedly.

"So what? You still have a half an hour." Keith leaned on his hand bummed.

"I suppose, I just have a pretty overprotective family." Lance took a sip of his drink feeling the warmth pool in his stomach.

"I don't want to be the cause of you getting in trouble." Keith said standing up.

Lance walked out with him. The sun was nearly all the way down and it left an eerie feeling in the streets. To anyone else an eerie feeling was played off as part of their imagination and they'd go home safe and sound.

For a wizard, an eerie feeling was bad, anything could be around. Lance had his eyes peeled and was paranoid.

"Are you Okay?" Keith asked worried.

"Yeah, I'm fine." Lance stopped looking around and tried to focus on Keith.

"Do you not like the dark or something?" Keith smirked.

"I'm not particularly fond of it, no." Lance laughed.

"Oh, sorry. I don't mind walking you home. I live a few houses down from yours." Keith offered.

Lance slid his wand out but kept it hidden. Something was out here and he knew it. "Keith, run."

"What?"

"Run home, now." Lance was panicking. A dark energy was around and it made him uneasy.

"Lance... y-your hands." Keith was backing up slowly.

He looked down seeing they were in fact glowing blue. "Ah Merlin's beard!" He felt frustrated.

"Lance, whats that?" Keith looked horrified.

Lance turned around only to be sent flying into the street. Lance quickly jumped back up aiming his wand at one nasty looking troll. It had twigs and moss growing from its back and hair all over. It carried a wooden plank like a club. "I should've known you were a troll, anyone could smell you a mile away." Lance mocked.

"Lance, whats going on?" Keith asked backing away from the eight foot tall creature.

Lance stood in front of Keith protecting him. "I'll explain as soon as soon as I get rid of this troll."

It laughed shoulders bouncing revealing large carnivorous teeth. "Do your worst wizard."

"Wizard? What the hell is going on?" Keith looked as if his head was going to explode.

Lance waved his wand in a motion he'd practice a million times before. "Id quod!" (Literal translation I used in Latin for a certain phrase)

Blue electricity shot from his wand hitting the troll in the chest, his feet sliding across the asphalt as he was forced back.

It ran quickly and swung the chunk of wood, Lance didn't move out of the way in time. He rolled across the street and hissed in pain.

The troll erupted with a deep laugh walking grotesquely to the hurt wizard.

Keith watched fearing the worst. He closed his eyes before jumping into motion. He picked up a handful of baseball-sized rocks and began to chuck them at its head. "Get away from him!"

Lance was slowly pushing himself to stand and wobbled. The troll was walking confidently to the mortal. One flick and the boy would be dead. Lance lifted his wand once more this time with a better spell, "Vos es vere dicata."

The troll turned around only to be nailed with blue electric like magic. He yelled out a ferocious roar and tumbled back. He tripped over his feet and was about to fall on Keith.

"Non hodie!" Lance said confidently. Keith immediately flashed next to Lance.

Blue arrived and sat in front of the scene.

"Oh now you show up." Lance folded his arms glaring at his familiar.

"I was taking a nap." Blue licked his paw.

"You're unbelievable." Lance rolled his eyes.

"And now you're talking to a cat." Keith looked shook out of his wits.

"Oh right." Lance looked to Blue and nodded.

"Hello mortal." Blue spoke allowing him to hear.

"Great, now I'm talking to a cat." Keith deadpanned.

"He's not really a cat, not technically. Blue is my familiar." Lance informed.

"Right." Keith said acting calm.

"Blue, can you take care of the troll? I'm going to be late going home and I need to fill Keith in." Lance asked.

The cat nodded and began to pull the troll, who probably weighed a literal ton, by the foot.

Lance told him everything. And the more Keith learned, the more he relaxed.

"Can I see it again?" Keith asked.

"What? My wand?" Lance asked.

"No, your magic. It was blue." Keith stopped walking and they stood in front of one another. They were pretty close and blue began to emit from Lances hands.

A blue energy swirled around them, some lifted and fondled Keith's hair and ran across his hands and face.

Lance smiled lightly at the sight. He leaned forward and captured Keith's lips.
