Yup I'm giving in and doing a mermaid Lance one shot.

I grabbed my backpack and ran out the door. "Bye mamá!" I yelled. I was running late today. I charged into school and immediately went to class making it in just the nick of time. I pulled out my math homework and prepared for the lesson. 'Math is so boring!' I thought. But there is one perk about my class in particular.

I glanced over at Keith who was reading a book his hand was over his mouth slightly and I thought I was going to combust.

The teacher walked in with a stack of papers. "Sorry I'm late, I was grabbing your homework off the printer." Everyone groaned annoyed that we had another assignment. I was still watching Keith.

His eyes moved back and forth quickly over the lines but when the teacher began the lesson he looked up and caught my gaze. Crap. I looked away quickly and pretended to write something down.

Yeah I was practically a stalker to Keith in math but I couldn't help it. Everything he did was just... cute! I was writing down notes in my notebook and would occasionally glance at him.

You see I've known Keith from when I was like 10. I've had a crush on him ever since then. He's my next door neighbor, we both live next to the ocean. I still remember little 10 year old Keith knocking on our door and greeting my mom with a plate of cookies his family made for Christmas. I remember I was peeking around the corner trying to get a good look when he caught my staring. He had smiled at me and waved.

I think he was a bit confused that my mom randomly wound up with another child out of no where who was already 10. My parents found me on the shore outside their house. I was in my human form. They took me in and adopted me and I've kept the secret that I'm a mermaid from them since. No one knows but me and I intend to keep it that way.

The only issue is... I can't get wet. A drop of water and my secret is out. I've had some pretty close calls too. Getting out of dishes is a struggle and I can't drink water around anyone at the chance of getting some on me. Pranks are in my nightmares.

I wasn't really friends with Keith but my friends were. I typically stayed on the down low at school or anywhere for that matter.

I immediately got distracted when I noticed the light sprinkle of rain outside the window. Oh no. I didn't check to see if it was going to rain today because I was running late. I usually played sick if it was bad enough or I'd go in a full raincoat, pants with leggings underneath, boots and an umbrella.

After a bit of panicking, note taking, and stalking, the bell rang. I packed up my stuff and my mind began to rave on how I would get home.

"Hey."

My head whipped around to see Keith. Damn he looked really cute. "Hi." I said breathily.

"I think this is the first time I haven't seen you in your getup when it's raining." He laughed.

"Oh that old thing. And I didn't know it was going to rain today." My gaze wandered to the window nervously.

"Are you scared of water?" He asked as we began to walk out together. I can't believe I'm talking to Keith Kogane.

"No of course not! Why would I be afraid of water?" I laughed. "I just don't like to get wet."

"Whatever scaredy cat. I could walk you home if you want?" He offered. My eyes went a bit wider at what he'd just said.

Keith. My crush. Just offered to walk me home. "Sure, I'd love that. Thanks." I said immediately without thinking.

"Sweet. I'll meet you in the cafeteria after school. Bye." He waved and I waved back practically on cloud 9. That was until I remembered. Why did I do that?! I can't go in the rain like this!

The rain picked up throughout the day and it was pouring when the bell rang to go home. I ran to Hunk, Pidge, Allura, and Shiro in a panic. "Guys I need your help! It's an emergency."

They all looked at me confused. "What is it?" Hunk Asked.

"I need your guys' back up coats you keep in your locker. And an umbrella in any of you have one." I said quickly.

"Lance you already have a coat." Pidge pushed up her glasses.

"I know but it's an emergency." I was freaking out horribly. I didn't want to be late meeting with Keith.

"Alright fine." Shiro said and they all dispersed to their lockers coming back with jackets and one umbrella.

"Thank you you guys. You don't know important this is to me." I said putting on all the jackets and grabbing the umbrella before taking off.

I ran to cafeteria panting. I was hit from all the jackets but I needed them.

"Sorry I'm late. I got held up with a teacher." I huffed.

"That's fine. What's with all the coats?" He asked as we began walking to the door.

"I told you I don't like getting wet." I laughed opening the umbrella as we went out the doors. I pulled up on of the hoods and shoved my hands in my pockets. All I could do was cross my fingers hopefully, one wrong move and it's all over.

"You look so freaked out by rain all the time. I don't recall ever seeing you drink water either. Are you sure you're okay?" He asked worriedly. It's a good thing we live close. I saw my house in the distance.

"Yeah, I'm good. I'm just very good about taking my sips."

He laughed and we began talking about all sorts of things. We were just in front of my house when a truck drove my and splashed water up at me and Keith.

Keith yelled at the truck angrily but I wasted no time. I ran for the ocean full speed and changed just as I hit the water. Keith turned around to find no Lance. "Lance?! Lance?! Are you okay?!" He called looking around worriedly. I watched from the water.

He ran a hand through his hair before sighing and walking to his house. "Damn I probably just ruined my chances with my crush that I've had for 8 years." I muttered under water to myself. I swam up to some rocks I usually keep a spare towel so I can dry off without being seen. Maybe I can go talk to him? The rain though. I have to wait for it to stop before I can leave.

I saw a familiar raven haired boy come outside in his swimming trunks and a t-shirt. He walked to the beach and stood far enough into the water that his feet were submerged. He looks down and I know it is because of me.

Keith sighed and pulled off his shirt throwing it on the rocks I was next to. Shirtless Keith I then decided was the best Keith. He walked back up and sat on the sand seeming to contemplate things.

I dove down and found a gorgeous sea shell and surfaced again. Then I threw it at him. It landed by his feet and I quickly went behind the rocks out of sight. I just want to cheer him up.

Keith picked up the seashell scanned it adoringly. He then scanned the area curiously more specifically the rocks where I'd thrown it and hid. "Is someone over there?" He asked taking a cautious step forward.

I went under water causing a small noise and he jerked back slightly. He then climbed up of the rocks and found my towel.

"Who's here?" He asked. I stayed silent watching him from under the water. "Fine, I guess I'll just take your towel." He said jumping down from rocks. He was waste deep in water. I took the opportunity. I swam full speed and grabbed my towel keeping it out of the water and pushing him over into the water as I did so. I couldn't just let him see me. I threw the towel back up on the rocks and hid behind them again.

"Who's here?" He asked again rubbing water from his face and pushing back his hair. He looked really good.

"No one! Go home!" I said in a funny accent so he wouldn't recognize my voice.

I heard him taking cautious steps towards me. "Why did you throw the seashell?" Keith asked taking another step.

"Because you looked sad." I said with the goofy accent again. I heard him laugh that time which made me smile.

"Can I see you?" He asked.

"No!"

"Why not?" He asked again.

"Because I said so." The accent made him laugh again.

"Would you stop talking like that?"

"Talking like what?" I laughed doing it again.

I heard his foot scrape on the rock and I immediately fell underwater. That was close. I saw him standing right above me. He was looking around for what he didn't know was me before looking down at the water.

He lied belly down on the rock and stretched his arm into the water. I watched as it was there right in front of me. I then slowly touched his finger. He jerked back a bit but then reached out again for whatever he had just felt.

I pressed my palm against his, his being upside down. I then grabbed his hand and kissed the back of it. Keith then began to touch my face feeling it. I couldn't help but laugh when one of his fingers landed on my lips. Then his hand at lightning speed grabbed my hair in a fist and began to pull me up.

That son of b-"Lance?!" He said shocked and pulled back sitting upright.

"Yeah... and what's with the whole hair grabbing thing. That hurt!" I rubbed my head sorely.

He stared at me before laughing. "Wait how could you breath under water so long?"

I contemplated telling him or not chewing the inside of my cheek as I did so. "Alright But you can't tell anyone! Not even my own family knows." I said softly.

He stared at me blinking in confusion. I then lifted the end of my tail out of the water. Keith gasped and fell back. "Y-y-y-you-you're a m-m-m-m-m-."

"Mermaid." I finished. "Actually I think the appropriate term is merman but whateves." I propped my elbows up of the rock revealing the scales on my shoulders.

Keith stared at me silently with wide eyes.

"Sorry." I said finally and his eyes softened.

"For what?" He asked getting closer to me now that he'd gotten more comfortable with the situation.

"For ditching you back there. I change back to this whenever I get wet." I informed him.

"Lance that's..."

"Crazy? Stupid? Lame? Fictional?"

"Amazing." He finished.

I was shocked by his reaction and I blushed. "Thanks. Mind if I?" I pointed to the rock wanting to sit up their with him.

"No of course not." He moved over letting me up. The rain was a light sprinkle now and the storm was almost finished.

I jumped up struggling to drag my tail up with me. When I was up all he could do was stare at my tail wide eyed. "Wanna touch it?" I grinned widely,

"Uh-Yeah." He reached out gliding his fingers across it. Then his hand was resting on the upper part of my tail, and I'll admit it actually felt really nice. He then quickly pulled it away quickly and looked at me for approval. "I-is this weird? Like for you I mean."

I laughed. "No not really. I mean a little bit I don't mind. It's just like your feeling my leg or something." When I said that but face immediately turned into a tomato.

"So I'm practically rubbing your leg." He repeated. His ears and neck were even red.

"It's okay!" I assured him. "I really don't mind. Besides I'm sure you're pretty curious. I'd be too if I were in your shoes." I grabbed his hand set in on my tail again. I didn't want to admit I just liked the feeling.

"It's actually pretty soft." Keith said. "It feels nice."

It was now my turn to blush. He doesn't exactly understand but that's like the top compliment he could've given. "T-thank you."

"What was that too weird? Is that like a mermaid thing I don't understand?" He asked.

"Kind of, it's just a specific type of compliment that- never mind." I decided against telling him.

"What?" Keith asked wanting to know.

I stared at him a moment before leaning forward and kissing him lightly. "Maybe that'll explain it a bit." I smiled.

Keith was in utter shock before he leaned forward and kissed me again. I rested my arms around his shoulders and his hands found my waist before he quickly jerked back. "Oh, those were your gills."

I laughed an kissed his cheek. "We tend to have those to breathe." My tail was dry now and I turned back into my human form. I took of all the coats and leaned back me and Keith beside each other.

"That is really cool." Keith smiled.

"Me turning back?"

He nodded. "Wait, so I have question. Now that I'm actually with a mermaid I can ask you. How do you guys y'know... reproduce?" Keith blushed slightly at his question.

"Oh, well you see. When two people love each other very much-." I began smiling widely. He cut me off by clasping a hand over my mouth face centimeters from mine.

"You know what I mean."

"That's why we can shift into our human forms, that also why we're practically almost extinct." I said when he removed his hand.

"Oh." He simply said.

"What did you want ki-." I teased.

"If you finish that sentence, I will rip your face off and throw it to the sharks." Keith threatened.

I put my hands up in defense. "This is amazing." I said quietly.

"Yeah, I never would've imagined mermaids were real."

"No I was talking about sitting here with you." I said cheesily getting a massive blush out of him. I laughed and leaned in kissing him again.

"You're so cheesy." Keith chuckled.
