Lance POV:

I laid in bed facing up and the rough textured ceiling. I closed my eyes breathing softly feeling relaxed. I didn't feel present in my room but rather elsewhere. I could feel myself everywhere.

"Lance! Dinners ready! Set the table!" My mother called from the bottom of the stairs. My eyes snapped open and I got up feeling heavy and tired. A full nights sleep had become a luxury lately leaving me with little energy for anything.

I went down the stairs at a speed that could only come from having gone up and down them for years. I placed the dishes forks and cups on the table as I had done hundreds of times before. I dished myself some of my mother's famous meatloaf and green beans.

I grabbed by glass and brought it under the faucet turning the handle. A fresh glass of water was all I needed. My family and I did the usual prayers before digging in. I looked at the glass of water harshly.

The water sloshed around before spilling and running to the ends of the table. That was weird.

I quickly grabbed a washcloth and wiped up the mess. I got a miniature lecture from my mom to be more aware of my surroundings so accidents like that don't happen. I never touched it.

=========

I was walking to school with my overly heavy backpack swung over my shoulder.

"Hey Lancey!" Said a familiar voice.

I looked up and glared. Lotor, just a kid that goes to my school. A kid that takes teasing and bullying to a largely unappreciated level.

I looked around seeing no one was really around to help or possibly witness what was going to happen. That is of course excluding two kids that typically hung around Lotor commonly known as his goons. They helped and followed what he said in everything.

It didn't take long before I was running from the three. It's times like these I feel grateful for my long legs. I was chased into a park where I stopped running, my lungs burning and legs aching.

The three took absolutely no time in catching up. It became very apparent that there wasn't a way of avoiding the situation as I was already tired and unable to outrun or overpower the three.

My heartbeat began to quicken and I could feel my blood run through my body. I became aware of the area around me but mostly certain spots. Almost like it clicked in my brain I looked to the drinking fountains which twisted with pressure before water sprayed covering a large area.

The water collected in the air twisting and bending smoothly. I built up into a large wall behind me and I could tell I was controlling it. It came naturally but felt draining. The boys were frozen in terror and the two goons were quickly chased away.

Lotor however remained, the wall continued to build and I felt my power becoming stronger the more water I obtained.

A small group of people ran into the park and looked at me not with fear but understanding and awe.

The tallest signaled the others to wait.

"You think I'm scared of some water trick?" Laughed Lotor.

He took a threatening step forward and I stepped back. I felt all this power, I knew I could stop this in a split moment but I... couldn't? I was still scared. Scared he would beat me, overpower me, win.

He lunged forward and grabbed my shoulder harshly with his left hand and his right finding its way to my stomach. I doubled over in pain, I yelled launching all the water at him in a fury.

Before the water could demolish him, powerful wind pushed back the water in the nick of time. I furrowed my eyebrows still shocked at my own newfound power and whatever was blocking me from hurting Lotor.

I didn't want to hurt Lotor but I couldn't control the water. It was more acting on how I felt and self defense. The water forced its way through and the group ran out between us.

I looked at the four and tried to stop the water. I couldn't.

A large wall of fire formed in front of them and as my water burned through it plants grew grabbing my arms and legs. I yelped in fear as I was dragged down.

I looked up to see the sun blocked out by the four people as they stood over me. "Just calm down, it's alright. You have to relax to control it." A man said soothingly. Upon further focus I could see him. He was tall, buff and though his hair was brown, he had a white bit in the front.

I breathed slowly calming down. Moments later the plants let go and I stood up. "W-what's going on?" I asked immediately.

"You're a water elemental. Don't worry, your powers are difficult to control at first. They act more on impulse and defense." He explained.

I stared at him dumbly. "Nope." I turned three my backpack over my shoulder and began to walk away. I don't want to involve myself in anything that has four strangers telling me I'm a water elemental. I'll admit the whole I can control water thing is weird but... no thanks.

"Wait. This isn't something you can just push away or refuse to accept. If you don't learn to control your power you could be a potential threat to others." The man explained concern dripping from his expression.

Hearing that seemed to strike something in my head. Me? Be dangerous to others? I turned around contemplating how to handle the situation. I bit at my cheek examining the four.

There was a short girl with as well short orange locks that fell around her face complimenting her matching freckles. She wore a baggy green T-shirt and large sound glasses that blocked out an sight of her eyes due to the sun glare.

To the right of her was a taller boy, although not quite as tall as the leader. He wore a yellow shirt with a matching bandana tied around his head. He was tan and bigger but he definitely had muscle and wouldn't like to get on his bad side. Though he had a lighter vibe around him.

To the left of the leader was a boy. A boy with raven black hair. It was a mullet but it looked feathered and soft. He wore a red cropped jacket over a black shirt and just as black jeans, boots, and gloves. His violet eyes were locked on me and I felt myself shift under the intense gaze.

"What would I have to do exactly?" I asked quietly.

"You would come with us. Train, practice, and learn everything there is to know about your powers. It will be tough but necessary in order to not just protect people from yourself but you can use it in order to help others." The man explained further.

"What's your names?" I asked still reluctant. I mean, what was I going to do? Join a random bunch of weirdos just because they say I could potentially be 'dangerous'?

"I'm Shiro, this is Pidge," he gestured to the short girl, "Hunk," he patted the yellow shirted boy's back, "and Keith." The raven haired boy's eyes shifted from Shiro but landed right back on me.

"What exactly would happen? Where would I go? Is it like a karate kid thing where I just do it in my free time or...?" I asked.

Keith seemed to roll his eyes a little, "You would live with us."

"We have a castle in a more or less deserted area. Allura and Coran help us to practice and master our abilities and alert us when there is trouble." Shiro finished.

"Trouble? Like superhero's?" I raised an eyebrow.

They seemed to glance at each other before shrugging and giving a reluctant nod.

"Are you going to join us or not?" Keith asked hotheadedly.

"What about my family?"

"We guess you could say goodbye but you aren't able to mention where you're going or why." Shiro informed. My heart sank.

"Fine. But you have to prove it's all true first. What are your abilities?" I asked the millionth question.

"I control the wind." Shiro said and a strong breeze swept through, my balance was weak and I took a small step forward.

"I control plants." Pidge smirked and a bundle of flowers bloomed at her feet.

"I control rocks." Hunk tossed a rock up and down in his hand but when it went up the third time, it didn't come down. After a moment or two it dropped to the ground.

"I control fire." Keith said deeply. When he's not being a hothead he was kind of... nice? He opened his palm and a gorgeous red flame danced in his hand. It reflected back in his violet eyes and I went breathless at the boy.

I couldn't look away from the flame. It was the exact opposite of my power but it was beautiful. The fire disappeared and smoke rose.

"How about you?" Shiro asked.

"What do you mean? You just saw what I did." I shifted my gaze reluctantly from Keith back to Shiro.

"Demonstrate what you can do, controlled." He instructed.

I looked from him to the broken water fountain still dripping with water. I bit the inside of my cheek and closed my eyes tightly.

I swallowed hard and tried to focus. Nothing happened.

"Try to focus on something in particular. Maybe something motivating or calming." Shiro directed.

I thought about how well Keith was able to control the fire. The way it danced in his hand and illuminated his skin despite the sun already shining brightly.

Water began to move rush towards me rolling across the ground lazily.

I focused more and thought about what I actually want the water to do. It floated in the air like there was no gravity. I snapped open my eyes to see it in fact was. I thought more, forming it into a ball and held it stunned.

I looked to the four in disbelief. "You're a quick learner, that's good." Shiro smiled widely and so did the other. Even a small approving look sat on Keith's face.

I tossed the ball of water up and down before throwing it to Keith. "Catch." I smiled widely as he on instinct went to catch it causing it to come apart soaking the boy.

He looked up at me with the look of death and Shiro, Pidge, Hunk, and I burst into laughter.

"You are so dead waterboy." He cracked his knuckles sparks flying as he did so. I looked to Shiro for help but he just shrugged.

"Seriously?!" I yelped as Keith shot a small penny sized fireball. I dodged it by a mere inch or two.

===============

It was my first day staying at the castle and beginning my training. Saying goodbye to my family was horrible. I couldn't tell them where I was going or why and it broke not just their heart but mine as well. All day I've been doing small things with water mastering little tricks. Sometimes to help I'd think about my family or Keith.

I don't know why I thought about Keith. I did it the first time and now I can't or rather don't want to stop.

I met Coran and Allura. Coran was weird, a ginger haired man with a mustache. Allura was a gorgeous woman with white hair and dark skin. A rather odd sight but was beautiful nonetheless.

"Lance," Shiro walked into the common room where I was messing with water in a glass. "you're going to be training with Keith. He can be a bit of a hothead but just be cooperative and do what he says."

"Why him!?" I whined.

"Because you're water and he is fire. Your powers balance each other out." With that Shiro left and I went to the training room to find Keith.

My face burned red when I found him, he took off his jacket and was now stretching. When he reached up and bent back, his shirt lifted ever so slightly to show a small strip of his belly.

"Hey Keith. Shiro said you were training me." I said startling him slightly. He stood up and pulled his shirt down a bit nodding.

We sat Indian style across from each other. He sat a glass of water in front of me telling me to focus. "Think of something like Shiro said yesterday."

I closed my eyes for a moment before looking back at Keith.

"What?" He questioned.

"What do you think of?" I asked.

"None of your business." He said grumpily.

I frowned and slouched looking at the water.

Keith sighed, "I think about when me and my dad would go camping, the campfire."

"What was he like?" I asked.

"He was a good dad, not perfect, but what parent is? He's dead now though."

"I'm sorry." I said quietly.

"Don't be, it happens. What do you think about?" He asked changing the subject.

"Going to the beach with my family in Cuba. Well, that and something else..." I drifted off.

"And what is tha-?" Keith began to ask but I cut him off.

"We should get started." I clapped my hands together. No way was I telling him that he motivated me.

"I told you about my dad, not even Pidge and Hunk know all of that. Tell me." Keith raised an eyebrow as he talked.

"I-uh," I thought for a moment. "I don't think... think that's a good idea for now." I said. We honestly just met, no way.

He eyed me for a moment but then nodded. "Fine." That didn't seem like the end of it though.

We trained for hours. I was exhausted, Keith was tough and merciless. Even though it's only been a day, I feel like I understand Keith a lot more. I thought about how he told me about his father, not even Pidge and Hunk know the full story behind it.

==========
Months have passed and I've gotten increasingly better with my abilities. Sometimes I train with Shiro, Hunk, or Pidge but I mostly insist on Keith. We've gotten considerably close although we act otherwise.

"Hey Keith, wanna train a bit?" I asked leaning against the door frame. Keith was on the couch reading, he looked up closing his book.

"Sure."

I smiled and we walked off to the training deck.

A couple weeks ago I convinced Coran into installing a water source in the training room so I didn't have to haul buckets of it in.

"Ready to be pummeled." I laughed turning on the water.

"By you? As if." He scoffed getting in a ready stance. Keith could form fire from thin air, something I'd been trying to accomplish but rarely came up successful.

We both nodded to each other and I held up my fists close to my face moving my legs into a stance I couldn't be knocked over in.

Keith made the first move throwing a kick. I blocked it with my arm. He followed up with a hook punch. I fell lower dodging it. I kicked out my leg and used my foot to pull the back of legs trying to make him fall. He stumbled barely catching himself backing up immediately. I saw fire forming and built up water around him.

"That's so not fair Lance!" I heard him complain.

I laughed a little as I watched steam rise. That usually happened when our powers mixed. I walked through only to have a fireball launched at me. I ducked just in time as it zoomed past my head.

"That totally could have killed me!" I whined.

"But it didn't!" He pointed out holding a large grin. I tackled Keith pinning him to the ground and sitting on him.

"Got you." I chuckled. He struggled for a moment before frowning up at me.

"As if." He flipped us over and this time I was face down on the floor with my arms behind me.

"Wait! Wait! Truce!" I yelled. Keith laughed getting off me. Then I sprayed water in his face.

"LANCE MCCLAIN, YOU ARE A DEAD MAN!" He erupted with anger and lunged to tackle me.

"Awww! C'mon Keithy!" I smiled before screaming as he nearly knocked my head off with a ball of fire.

Keith's serious face twinged before breaking into a smile and laughter. It was contagious and despite almost getting murdered by him a mere second ago I began to laugh too.

I walked up to him and pushed his now wet hair out of his face. Keith was blushing and staring with wide eyes and I wouldn't doubt my face was red too. We both leaned forward kissing.

Keith was warm and his hands were still hot from the large ball of fire he hurled at me.

Fire twisted around him beautifully, his hair twirling and entwining with it. Water droplets floated loosely, they were mine though, I created them.

Not only did I discover how to form my own element from thin air but I also kissed Keith. Today is amazing.
