His hand roamed the bed, looking for the cursed device which wouldn't let him sleep. He finally got a hold of it and groaned when he saw the caller ID.

Trust Jason to have the worst timing ever.

He wanted to ignore the call but curiosity gotten the better of him and he tapped the answer button.

"Yo Alex, do you now what day it is today?" Jason's enthusiastic voice greeted him.

"I'm gonna kill you if that is the only reason you called me for." He groaned.

"That wasn't a literal question Mr. Grumpy." Jason deadpanned, "anyway, it's friendship day so me and Abby are coming to pick you up."

"God damnit Jason, you celebrated that idiotic day last month." He growled.

"Really? Well, who cares? Everyday is friendship day so get ready, we're on our way." Just like that the call was disconnected.

Alex let out a scream of frustration but got out of the bed. He knew that Jason would never hesitate to do something just to get what he wanted.

He was in the dining room, all dressed up when he saw the message that his father had sent at about two in the morning.

Had to leave because of an emergency. Call me only if it's something very important.

He just rolled his eyes at that. Emergencies like this were not a rare occurrence in their house.

He started eating his breakfast when the doorbell rang. After a minute, Jason and Abigail strolled inside, holding hands much to Alex's surprise.

"Yo baby, wassup?" Jason greeted with a goofy grin.
"Let's go." Alex muttered and got up.

They were about to get out when Alex stopped. His mother might get worried if she didn't find him at home after that angry night.

"Um guys, just wait here for a second. I'll be back in a moment." He rushed upstairs and knocked his mother's bedroom door to inform her about his plans.

Jason was about to take a bite from the apple he took from the dining table when he heard a loud thud. He threw Abby a concerned look and they both rushed upstairs to see what was wrong.

He opened the door to be greeted by a sight he knew was going to give him nightmares in the coming days.
Mrs. Black was on the ground with a rope tied around her neck. Her eyes stared up at the ceiling, showing no emotion. It looked like she had hung herself with the ceiling fan. Another suicide. This can't be possible.
Abigail felt sick, tears pricking the corner of her eyes. She ran out with a hand covering her mouth or she would've screamed too loudly. The whole scene had reminded her of the heartache she had felt a few days ago, at her brother's funeral.

Jason rushed towards a sobbing Alex, who was leaning over his mother, pressing his fingers on her neck.

Jason wrapped a hand around his shoulder and felt him shake.

"I-I can't feel a pulse Jay." He once again leaned over her. "Mom, mommy please wake up. You know I don't like these stupid pranks you play on me so please get up. Please get up." He grabbed her shoulder and shook her a bit, which had no effect on the lifeless body.

Jason had never felt this helpless before. He didn't know how to stop his friend from breaking. First Michael, then Abby, and now Alex, everyone was losing someone they loved and he couldn't do anything about it.

He knew he had to do something seeing that Alex was about to shut himself off.

"Alex?" No answer.
"Alex? Alexander?"
When there was still no response, he placed a hand on his shoulder only to be shrugged off.

"I need to call my father." Alex said monotonously. He got up and walked out of the room leaving Jason alone with her mother's dead body.

Jason heaved a deep breath, trying not to look at the body lying just a few inches away. He knew Alex was shutting him off. He always did this when something bad happened. He was an expert on bottling his feelings and Jason was worried because of that. Sooner or later that bottle was going to explode destroying everything near and dear.

**********

"I heard she hung herself."
"I never liked her, seemed too fake."
"She was a coward."
"Didn't care for anything."
"Poor Alexander."

All these whispers were giving him a headache. He wanted to do nothing but go to his room and try to adjust the change brought in his life. No matter how bad it got, he just couldn't believe that his mother left him like this. He again wiped a traitor tear and looked at the empty chair beside him. The chair that his father was meant to sit on. But no. His father had other important things to do. Things more important than consoling his own son..

His eyes once again wandered over the sight that made his heart clench.

There he was, Mr Raymond Black aka his father, sitting next to his best friend and talking to him as if they were old friends. His father had a little smile when Michael talked and he frequently patted on his shoulder.

Alex's fist clenched. He couldn't believe it. He felt like he had lost his father just moments after losing his mother.

He couldn't take it anymore so he got up and left the ceremony, not caring that he missed the speech his mother's friend was making.

He spotted Jason near his car, not surprisingly smoking a cigarette. He raised his eyebrows when he spotted him.

"I'm guessing it got way too boring in there." Jason muttered, dropping his cigarette.

"Something like that." Alex leaned on the hood of the car and took a deep breath.

"How you holdin' up?" Jason also leaned next to him.

"I just need time, man. I just can't figure what lead her to this. I thought she was fine. Maybe it's my fault. Maybe if I had paid more attention, this wouldn't have happened."

"Hey hey hey. Don't say that man. It's not your fault. I know nothing I'll say will make you feel better but you need to know that nobody could've prevented this. Not you. Not your father. Not anyone." Jason hugged him at the end and felt the tears sliding down his face.

After a minute or two, Alexander got out of the tight hug and wiped his eyes.

"I'll see you later, Jason." He got inside of his car and drove away.

Jason looked at the car with concerned eyes. He knew that being alone was going to help Alex so he decided to let him be for a few days. After that he'll do everything in his power to get his old friend back.
