She had stayed up all night pondering over what Chris had told her over dinner. He had finally found out the whereabouts of Jordan and his family. But this was not what had stressed her out. Chris had asked for a favour; he was going to shift there and he wanted her to do the same.

She sat on the sofa, keeping a watch on her toddler. He was playing with an aeroplane, his favourite toy. She heaved a sigh and looked at the picture of her and Misha sitting on the mantelpiece. She was five months pregnant at that time, the time when she was running after the man she is running away from now.

No, she thought at once. She couldn't leave this place. This was her home now. Misha had found a real good job here and there was a public school nearby where her little one would go. She couldn't leave this all for a man who didn't give her a second thought. Jordan was a part of the past and he will be staying there. Her life was as close to perfect as possible and she couldn't just leave this all behind.

Still lost in thought, she almost jumped when someone placed a hand on her shoulder. She shrieked and turned around so quickly that her neck was in the danger of snapping.

Misha was standing there, supporting his usual grin like he just didn't gave his wife a heart attack.
"Do you want me to have a heart attack?" She asked, punching his shoulder.
"Sorry love but I couldn't resist." He said, a smirk gracing his beautiful features. He was getting more handsome everyday, ageing as gracefully as possible.

"Whatever." She just huffed in annoyance and took a seat again.
Misha sat next to her and held her hand. "I've got something to tell you though." He looked nervous and excited at same time.
"Oh my god. You're pregnant?" She grinned at him with the same excitement and playfulness but he just rolled his eyes.
"Funny." He deadpanned.
"I know I am hilarious." She flipped her hair to add effect.
"So as I was saying before being interrupting," he gave her a pointed look, "I got promoted."

It took her a minute for the information to sink in and when it did, Clair squealed and wrapped her arms around his neck. "That's amazing Misha."
"I know but there's something else too." She knew by his tone that it was something serious.
"What's wrong?" She squeezed his hand.
"Well, they figured out that my skills were too amazing to be a vice manager so they made me the manager. Now one place can't have two managers so they want me to manage the branch in Lenexa."

"So this means..." Her eyes widened.
"We need to move to Lenexa. They will even provide a house and car." Misha grinned at her.

Clair sat still for a moment. Just a few minutes ago she was hell bent on not leaving this place and now Misha had gotten a job in the same place where Chris had wanted her to go. This didn't seem right and this coincidence wrinkled her brain.

"Hey we don't have to leave if you're really stressed about it. I can just reject the offer." Misha didn't want to lose this opportunity but he'd do anything to make Clair happy.
"You can't just throw away opportunities like this, Misha. I'm actually really proud of you. Just tell me when we are are leaving. I need to do packing, you know." She winked at him and kept a smile on her face.

"We have to leave this Friday. Don't worry about all this stuff, the house will be fully furnished." He was grinning widely now. He knew that Clair would understand what a great offer this was.

"Okay then." She was about to get up but was pulled harshly causing her to fall on his lap.
"You know a good wife would try to do something for her husband if he got a promotion like this." He smirked at her.
"Well maybe I'm not a good wife then." She replied with a smirk of her own.
"Oh shut up." He said and pulled her closer almost forgetting about the toddler who was staring at them with wide eyes.

*******

He picked the phone on the third ring and she immediately started talking.
"You're behind this all, aren't you? Oh my God, Chris, how did you even do this?"
He chuckled in response.
"You should be thanking me for getting your husband a promotion." He had a wide smile plastered on his face.
"He could've gotten that by himself." She replied sassily.
"But it would've taken an year or two." He pointed out. Clair huffed out an annoying breath, knowing that he was right.

"Why do you want me to go there so badly?" She asked in a soft voice.
"Look Clair, it might seem odd for you to hear me saying this but you know it. You are the only person Jordan doesn't seem to hate. Hell if it was any other woman claiming to have his baby, he would've killed her the very next moment but not you. You are special to him and I can't let you go right now. You're the last chance I have with him."

Clair was confused and wanted to ask questions she knew Chris wouldn't answer.

"Wow, I am being used as bait. Cool." She spoke with bitterness.
"No it's not like that. Please try to understand..." Chris wanted to explain but she didn't let him.

"Fine, whatever." She said and disconnected the call without hearing or saying another word.

"Nice to know that we'll have your company." Misha winked at Chris.
"So is your family already there?" Clair asked.
"Yeah, my wife and kid, they are already there. Luckily, her parents live there and it's her hometown so she's kinda happy about moving there." Chris answered.
They were travelling by a bus and they had only two suitcases. Chris had planned to leave after Clair and Misha but they insisted and he had to join them.

"Uncle Chris?" The boy tugged at Chris's shirt and he sat down to reach his level.
"Yes baby?"
"Is your boy my friend?" He asked, his amber eyes shone with innocence.
"Well, he's almost the same age as you. So you can be friends. He can be your new best friend." Chris grinned at the child and he reciprocated it.
"What's his name?" He asked excitedly.
"Oh his name? It's..." Chris was interrupted by a signal he received from a man standing behind the kid.
"Wait kiddo, I gotta go. See ya later!" He handed him back to Clair and whispered something in her ear.

"Hey Clair, I got a red alert. Change your bus. And when you're in town, there'll be a blue truck at the bus station. You'll get into that as fast as you can and don't turn on your house lights till tomorrow. I need to go somewhere. Take care." Saying this, he trotted towards the man who was now moving in the opposite direction with a fast pace.

Clair told Misha everything Chris has just told her and without explaining anything, they did as they were told.

"What is it?" The man had led him into a garage.
"Jordan knows everything about you. His men have seen you multiple times with that woman. I just got a report that some of them have been following you and this family for the whole day. Our work doesn't include risking people's lives. They are a normal family. Are you sure about whatever you're doing?" The man spoke with seriousness that was intimidating.
"Yes, I do. No matter what happens I'll have a lead on Jordan till the end. I know it's a risk but I'm trying my best. Do me a little favour and send a few of your men with them." He reciprocated his tone.
"Already did that. Now what kind of lead are you talking about?" The man moved closer to him.
"Can't trust anyone with that. I need to go. Goodbye." Chris ran out of that isolated garage. It was full with men he had worked with all these years. He smiled at them and quickly walked towards his car that was not so far away from there.

As soon as he got into his car, he heard a scream, and then a blast.

The garage was on fire.

It turned into ruins right in front of his eyes.

This was the third meeting place that got burned down in this week. Jordan was killing every person that Chris worked with.
He wondered if it was his luck that he left the garage before the blast or it was another sick game Jordan was playing with him. He didn't know. He slammed his foot on the accelerator and his car almost flew away from the burning site where help has already arrived. But he knew it was of no use.
Jordan didn't leave survivors. He almost never did. Almost.
