Jason was sitting on the bench behind the cafeteria. There were many wild trees around making it hard for anyone to see him. He laid himself on the bench and closed his eyes, concentrating on the song blasting from his earphones.
As soon as he had closed his eyes, thoughts came, thoughts having the power to make him insane.

He groaned, getting tired of thinking and opened his eyes only to give out a shrill scream.
Elise was standing by the bench, looking at him as if he was her latest science project.
"What the hell are you doing here?" He practically shouted, putting a hand on his rapidly beating heart.

"Sorry. I didn't mean to scare you. Though I didn't know you were this jumpy." Elise looked at him in a weird way. It was hard for her brain to think that the guy who scared everyone and was almost impossible to faze would get startled this easily.

"I wasn't always this jumpy." He sat up and patted the spot next to him. Elise quietly took a seat.
"I understand. You were bound to be affected one way or another." She was looking at the trees, observing the different types of birds sitting here and there.
"What do you mean by that?" He looked at her quizzically, though somewhere deep down he knew exactly what she meant.

"Jason, no matter how hard you try to avoid it but you can't change the fact that somebody tried to kill you that day and they might come again, sooner or later."

At once his jaw clenched and his hands turned into fists.
"I told you to never mention that incident again." He seethed and Elise felt angry at him.
"You can't keep it hidden forever." She was on the verge of shouting.
"I can and I will." He took a deep breath to calm himself down.
"Jason, please, we have to tell someone about this. What if they come back for you again?" She placed a hand on his shoulder, trying to make him understand that her concern was real.
"They won't come back any soon and if they do, I will manage."
"And how will you manage?" She was getting irritated by him now.

"How will he manage what?"
They both whipped their heads to see Alex leaning by a tree. Elise could feel her heartbeat speeding up. Even though she wanted to tell someone about that incident, she didn't want it to happen like this.

"How will he manage to get Abby to agree to go on a date with him?" Elise said hurriedly, trying to get the situation under control.
"Yeah right." Alex scoffed.

Jason gave Elise a hard look. She was a fool to come up with something like that. Alex knew Jason well enough to figure out that she was lying about this. Jason was a pro in asking girls out and Alex knew this.

"We were talking about Thomas, mate. I wanted to go to his house once again to take a look at things. We might find something in there." Jason gave a light shrug.

At once the cool aura Alexander carried vanished. He looked frustrated just by listening about Thomas. It seemed that all his friends talked about these days was the one and only Thomas.

"Oh come on. Not you too." Alex groaned.
"Why? What's wrong, man?" Jason looked at him weirdly. It was not like Alex to lose his cool so easily.
"I don't know about you but I think you guys are getting obsessed with this Thomas' case. You're always talking about him and I just can't stand it anymore." Alex rambled and gave an annoyed huff at the end.
"Chill man. We aren't obsessed with him. This is actually the first time I've talked about him." Jason felt awkward at the moment since he rarely dealt with an annoyed Alex.

"Yeah well the only thing I hear from Mike these days is Thomas this, Thomas that, nothing else." Alex spat, hate being obvious on his face. Seeing Alex being so indifferent made Elise really uneasy and she decided to just watch them talk about this.
"Oh oooh." A smirk formed on Jason's face. "You're jealous of Thomas, aren't you? Damn Alex I thought you grew over your childhood crush."

Elise who had been sitting silently for awhile gave out a laugh but tried to cover it with a cough. Alex glared at her making it harder for her to stifle that laugh.

"Oh come on Alex, I didn't know that you had the hots for Michael." Elise said, finally speaking and showcasing a wide grin.
Jason and Elise were so caught up in laughing that they didn't notice the red faced Alex. He didn't know why he was getting so worked up over their silly jokes. He tried to calm himself down but failed.

"Can you both shut up for a minute?" Alexander finally snapped. "I am sick of your childish jokes and more importantly I'm sick of that Thomas guy. Even dead he hasn't left us alone. He was alway a pain in the as-"

Alex was interrupted by a hard push. He stumbled but managed to gain his balance. He turned around to see a fuming Michael, his hands in tight fists.

"Alex... Don't you dare talk about Thomas like that, never again." Michael seethed. He was taking short angry pants in order to stop himself from breaking Alex's nose.
"I've had enough of him, Mike. Just stop." Alex took a deep breath. He knew that Michael was on the verge of exploding and snapping his neck. He had to take things easy right now.
"I know that Thomas' death has been hard on you but you're taking this thing way overboard." Alex placed a hand on his shoulder which was harshly shrugged off.
"Don't tell me what to do, Alex." Michael spat.

Jason and Elise, who had been taking in the scene quietly, finally decided to intervene.

"Come on guys, chill. You both are getting worked up over nothing. Just kiss and make up." Jason said in his usual cheery tone.
He took a visible gulp when two set of eyes gave him a death glare.
"I was just trying to lighten the mood." He gave a small nervous laugh, raising his hands in surrender.

"Yeah whatever." Saying this Michael walked away. Elise got up and followed him, throwing a hasty bye.

"So it's just you and me then." Jason whistled lowly.
Alexander gave him disgusted look and walked away.
Jason sat on the bench and plugged his earphones back in.
'Peace at last.' He thought with a small smile and closed his eyes.

********

The door slammed open. The whole class turned towards the intruder, eager to stop Mr. Ramos rambling on the History Of World Wars for even a little while.

"Hello ladies and gentlemen, I'm really sorry for being so late." Jason said, giving a little bow, trying to annoy his teacher a bit more.
"I am really honoured that you took out some of your precious time just to attend my class, Mr. Steiner." Mr. Ramos said, in his usual robotic tone.
"Oh don't flatter yourself, sir, I just came to spend a few minutes with that beautiful girl." Jason pointed towards Abigail, who had a mischievous glint in her eyes.
She waved at him and said in the sweetest tone she could manage, "I'm glad that you finally came, babe."

Jason winked at her while the whole class just gaped at them, with their jaws hanging open. They made an odd pair, with their fading blue and pink hair.

"Mr. Steiner be quiet and take your seat." Mr. Ramos said, clearly annoyed.
"Your wish is my command sir." Giving another bow, Jason rushed towards his seat.

Mr. Ramos muttered something under his breath but nobody could catch it.

Jason was getting bored. He had been sitting quietly for about only ten minutes but it felt as if it had been longer than an year. He glanced at Abby. The girl was scribbling notes and he couldn't digest seeing her study.
He grabbed his pen and made a line across Abby's notebook. Abby gave out a gasp and when her wide eyes met his, he just smiled. A very crooked smile.
"This is war." Abby said, menacingly. She opened Jason's notebook and made some hasty lines on it.

"Do whatever you want, I really don't care." He leaned back casually, not bothered that his notebook was being ambushed. The thing was he had never made any notes. His book only had mindless doodles. The only words ever written on the book was his name by Michael. He sat abruptly and looked at the page containing his full name which Abby had failed to notice till now.

He snapped the book shut.
"That's enough Abby."
"No it isn't." She reached towards his book but he used his height advantage and raised the book up.
Abby gave a little cry and lunged towards him, causing him to lose his balance. They both tumbled to the floor causing the whole class to break in laugher.

"Mr. Steiner and Ms. Anderson! Get out of my class, right now!" Mr. Ramos commanded in a booming voice.
They both quickly straightened up. Jason began dusting his jeans while Abigail started muttering apologies.
"Just get out and the next time you come make sure that you have the World War II timeline, handwritten thrice." The teacher had a weird sadistic smirk on his face.
"Okay sir." Abby said slowly.
"No way." Jason groaned. He could already feel his hands ache.
"Please have a little mercy on us! Please take it easy on us, sir." He said dramatically.
"Mr. Steiner stop your melodrama and don't come back until you have those blasted timelines, now shoo." Mr. Ramos turned towards the board and started writing something.

Jason walked out of the class while Abby started to pack her things. She was about to walk out when she noticed Jason's notebook discarded on the floor. She hurriedly picked up the book and walked out of the class.

Her phone beeped. She took it out to see a message from Jason.

Come to my "special spot", quick.

Abby smiled a little. Jason's special spot was a lone bench behind the cafeteria. There was nothing quite special about the place but Jason loved it and usually went there when he would skip classes.

"You happy now?" Jason smirked, as soon as he saw Abigail approach him.
"Hey it's not only my fault." She raised her hands in surrender.
"Yeah right." Jason closed his eyes and took a deep breath. In the meanwhile Abby opened his book and saw what he desperately wanted to hide.

"Jay-Jason."
"Hmm?"
"Jason, I'm so sorry."
"What?" He opened his eyes, confused.
"I'm sorry, it must be a terror to have a middle name like that." As soon as those words left her lips, Jason gave out a loud groan while Abby rolled up in laughter.

Jason glared at the book sitting in Abby's lap. It was the only book on which Michael had written his middle name and now he regretted not burning it.

Jason Comprehemmenlik Steiner.

The name was so long, Jason got tired just by writing it.

"What is it? Comp-ree-hem-an-kick? Kick what?" Abby was still laughing.
"Really Abby? It's not even that funny." He rolled his eyes.
"Yes it is. It is also a very comprehensive name, don't you think so?"
"Oh God, Abby." He rubbed his hands over his face. He knew she would do this and there was no stopping her now.
"How long did it take you to learn the spelling of your own name jay jay?" She ruffled his hair a bit causing him to give a small smile.

She was ruining his precious hair and he was enjoying it. Pretty weird.

"Honestly, I misspelled it till third grade." He gave out a small laugh and rubbed his neck.
"Aww Jason! You are too cute." She was talking in a baby voice, pinching his cheeks.
Jason again gave a small chuckle and felt that the tips of his ears were now a light shade of pink.

"You know you should thank God that you were given a decent name. Some people are not that blessed."
"Yeah my parents were pretty normal." She was smiling now. Jason noticed the smile turning into a smirk and knew that another lame joke was coming his way.
"Hey Jason?" Jason braced himself.
"Yes Abigail?"
"Was your father an English teacher or did your mother had a strong passion of doing comprehensions that they named you after it?" Abigail laughed at her own joke, failing to notice the way Jason's fists had clenched and his mood had taken a one eighty. He was already angry at how ignorant he was about his parents. Maybe what she had said was true, he wouldn't know.

"Shut up, Abby." He finally snapped when she didn't stop laughing.
She abruptly stopped and couldn't figure out what just happened to him.
"What's wrong Jason?" She placed a hand on his shoulder but he flinched, causing her to drop her arm lamely.
"You should know when to stop with your pathetic jokes." He seethed.
"Jason I-"
"I've had enough of you. Just please go away now."
"But tell m-"
"Fine. Be like that." He shouted and walked away. Leaving a very confused Abby behind.
