"Now!" Merlin shouted, and both of you sprinted up to the rendezvous point. He looked back at you, making sure that you were alright. He did notice your mood has been odd lately, feeling this strange aura around you.

He shook his head and focused on the monsters coming up in front of him. He took two talismans from his satchel and ran forward. Using some of the ignited lightning to increase his jump height, he strikes the monsters at their backs while the wizard is in mid-air.

The red one swats him away, sending him falling over the edge. While falling, the wizard used another talisman to make a stream of lightning and hook it at the monster's leg, using it as a rope to pull the male up. And in mid-air again, he used two talismans to hit the same monster. And he sticks the landing.

However, the red monster swung its arm to crush him. Luckily, the wizard dodged it and jumped to the other one's head. The red one noticed Merlin and went to punch him again, but Merlin jumped out of the way, making the other monster take the hit instead of him.

"What? You just got Merlined? Oh yes, you did." Merlin gushed jokingly as he taunted the monster's head. Merlin placed many talismans on its back and jumped out before the monster's hands could squish him.

He landed safely on the ground. The wizard backed up a bit and raised his hands. As the red monster got closer, Merlin clapped his hands together, and the spell ignited at the back of the beast. The electrocution made smoke engulf a couple of radii.

Merlin walked out of the smoke with his trademark smirk. But his confidence drained when he sensed that the same red monster was still moving, he looked back, and a large wooden arm swung him to the wall—making the talismans fly out of his satchel from the impact.

The monster walked towards where Red and you were. He saw the beast walking away and grunted in pain as he stood up. He quickly picked up the littered talismans, "Hey blockhead! Here!" He called out as he ran after it. "You're even more of a blockhead than Prince Average." He compared, and the monster stopped its tracks and faced him.

" Av-vou-rouge!" It growled. Merlin too stopped and looked at it in confusion. "Prince Average?"

When you reached the tree, you ignored Red instantly and stared at its trunk "Y/N? What's wrong?" She asked as she put her hand on your shoulder.

You quickly pushed away from her hand from your shoulder in annoyance. Red noticed this unbelievable behavior from you.

"You know that these dwarves are just helping you because you're so beautiful." You continued and exaggerated the last word, rolling your eyes. You gave her this villainous vibe as you scrunched up your face.

"What? What has gotten into you?" Red looked at you in disbelief. You didn't give her the cold shoulder nor act like that before. You scoffed at her, "Nothing. Nothing is wrong with me." You laughed at it. "I'm perfectly fine, perfectly fine. Every day I get to hear them say, Red is so beautiful. I want to make her mine. Then they say this stupid stereotype about how beautiful people should be like this and that. Every day my confidence began to crumble. I grew more and more anxious about my body!"

Tears began to pour out unconsciously. "I bet you didn't notice it because you are so busy finding your father. Well, guess what! They just wanted to help you so that they can win your affection!"

Red Shoes looked shocked at this. Is this why you were ignoring her earlier? Gave her the cold shoulder? This isn't you. This isn't you at all.

"You ever noticed that they kept asking you to kiss them?" You said in your most cold-hearted voice, speaking through your emotions.

Red couldn't answer your question, too shocked to see you like this. "No? Well, let me tell you." You gave her the most miscreant smile ever. She moved away from you, "What has gotten into you?" She asked you in disbelief.

You heavily breathe in and out, ignoring her question. "And Merlin...Merlin... gosh, I love him, but I can see you have eyes on him. And him on you." You cried even harder, releasing all of your bottled-up feelings. A loud boom has erupted behind, but you two were focused on each other to notice.

Red felt sad after hearing that from you, wishing if only you could see the real her. But she couldn't bring it up to you. She didn't know why. She blamed herself as you continued to wail. Red turned to you to hug you, but you backed away, declining her offer. "I know that I should've said this to you earlier, but... but I... I promised them...." You hiccuped some parts of your sentence.

"So maybe I thought that... that me... getting hurt is fine. I'm sorry." Tears finally slid down from your eyes to your cheeks and dripped to the crystal necklace. You grip the staff again, turning your knuckles white.

They heard rumbles of rocks, "Take a look, Red Shoes!" Merlin triumphantly exclaimed but got ignored. He noticed your back facing him and Red's eyes in worry.

"What is going on?" Merlin asked in confusion. "Merlin!" Red called, and you looked at him, next to you. You went stiff like a lamppost, afraid of the consequences if you would ask him.

'Did he hear everything?'

Red gasp, "Look out!" She pointed at something behind the two of you. But as you looked back, a giant wooden monster's hand scooped you and Merlin. It brought the two of you with it into the cold waters below.

The impact of the surface of the water hit your back hard. You choked out the air, and water engulfed your mouth. And what's worse is that a vast boulder trapped the monster and didn't lose its grip, making you and Merlin stay at the bottom.

The cold temperature and your burst of emotions to Red make you tired as you close your eyes. Embracing the thought that you would rather die than see yourself get hurt again.

'Maybe it's for the best.'

You closed your eyes, letting out your last breath. Merlin turned in his human form and shook your arm. It's the only thing he could move around. He panics as you do not respond. He shakes you even more but is still unconscious.

"Please don't die," Merlin prayed.
