Amara Knight

"So, did you kiss him?"

I threw a lethal glare that could have made the evil flee for his life, but it was Drew I was glaring at, who didn't seem to be affected by it.

"Kiss? Kiss my foot! I kicked him out of my room." I scoffed, crossing my arms across my chest as I leaned against my locker door, then I dictated to him what had transpired in my room the other day.

His eyes widened briefly before he narrowed them into a slit and pointed an accusing finger at me. "You were supposed to make a score with him, not scare that poor boy away."

I stared at him in disbelief. "Poor boy? He is not naive that you take him to be.

Besides, you were supposed to be on my side, not his."

"I'm on no one's side. For fuck's sake, I am merely saying how will you have your chance with him when you won't stop with your tantrums." He stated pointedly.

I groaned, looking heavenwards. "Why do I even share my feelings with you?"

He bopped my forehead, making my head bang against the locker door. "See, this is exactly what I am referring to. Yes, Ryan is also wrong at many levels, but this snarky attitude of yours will not bring him to you, let alone kiss him."

"Kiss who?"

Becky's full of suspicion voice made both of us flinch visibly. We were so preoccupied with ourselves that we failed to notice when she came and stood in front of us.

"Kiss who?" She questioned again, her gaze shifting between Drew and me.

Fortunately, I didn't have to race through my thoughts to come up with a quick answer because Drew took it upon himself to do so.

"Kiss you." He replied to her, smirking.

"Fuck you." Becky's acidic response was faster than Usain Bolt.

Surprising me, Drew moved away from the locker and inched closer to the ticking time bomb, Becky. His lips were curved in a flirtatious smirk.

"I am always up for it. Your place or mine?" He commented.

"How about I kick you where the sun doesn't shine?" She passed him a sweet, sinister smile.

Their harmless, rhyming argument made me laugh, and I remarked, "That rhymed."

"Good to hear. Wish she rhymes with me on the stage as well." Drew made a remark about Becky while looking at me. They weren't doing the periodic romantic drama anymore, it was more like a musical dance drama, instead.

"For that to happen you'll have to drop your swards and shake hands," I stated, rolling my eyes. These two would literally eat each other alive before even cutting the other one into pieces.

Becky let out a tiring huff as she came over to me and leaned against the locker next to me, saying, "Well, Mrs. Frey wouldn't replace him, no matter what. So, we mutually agreed on a temporary truce.

I was stunned to hear that. "Whhoww, that sounds strange coming from you...but yeah, okay." I then turned my gaze to Drew. "I'm sure you're over the moon, aren't you?"

His face shone brightly like a crown star on a Christmas tree. "You've got no idea."

"Hope you make it out alive." I teased him.

"He will." Becky let out a tiring sigh. "I'm too tired to fight him right now, I already have a lot to deal with anyway. No agency is willing to give me a break."

I heard detection in her voice. She was never deemed to be someone giving up easily but she sounded vulnerable. I gave her a gentle pat on her shoulder.

"You know I can always refer you to my Aunt Eloise. She owns a Modeling Academy plus she has connections, you know?"

Her lips twitched with a weary smile. "I know. But you know my pride. Okay fine, I'm giving myself a year or so, and if I do not have any project by then, I'm knocking on your doors, so you better not unfriend me, get that?"

I shook my head at her amusingly. "My friend list is always open for you."

"I'm also right here whenever you need me," Drew replied with utter sincerity.

I wondered why Ryan couldn't be like him.

Dismissing away the thought, I straightened up. "You guys, I have to sit at the registration desk and collect the forms from students participating in different events. Wanna join me if you both are free?" I asked.

"Yeah, sure. Our practice won't start until after the next hour anyway." Becky replied, then we proceeded to the registration desk, which was placed in one corner of the corridor. Sia joined as well.

I hadn't seen Ryan yet, even though it was well after lunch. Since the morning, I had made it a point not to get in his way, but he hadn't shown his face either. Could he possibly be avoiding me after whatever happened?

Huh, why should I care? He was the one who couldn't respond to my simple question. He did not want to be with me? Fine by me. I would show him that I did not crave his attention either.

"As if you'll be able to resist seeing him for long." My subconscious mind scoffed at me. Gosh, why was nobody on my side!

I refocused my attention on my work. Students were rushing to the desk to turn in their forms and with help of my friends, I filled out their information on my computer as instructed. Becky sat on the bench to my right while Sia on my left and Drew, well, he plopped himself on the desk and did nothing.

When I took my gaze away from the computer screen, I noticed Sia staring into space while smiling to herself. I nudged Becky, gesturing for her to look at Sia, who in return poked Drew in his back when she noticed what I wanted her to see. Amusingly, Drew jumped off the desk and came behind her, and bent down to whisper in her ear,

"Whose dream are you lost in, Sia."

That made Sia squeak in fright and she straightened herself, her face turning red.
Beck and I haughtily stared at her without uttering a word, urging for her to spill the beans.

"What? Why are you staring at me like that?" She questioned, displaying innocence.

Three of us gave her a you-better-not-make-us-wait look, which had her groan and bang her hands on the desk.

"Alright, fine. Um, it's...it's Joshua. We, like, we kissed yesterday."

Her face flushed in a shade of pink, which she attempted to conceal by covering her face with her hair. While the rest of us expressed our astonishment in unison.

"He what?"

Wow, he finally proceeded. Good.

"Looks like it's a season of some new romantic beginnings, isn't it Amara?" Drew's teasing remark about me made me crane my neck and give him a murderous, warning glare. I discreetly showed him my iron fist, which had him surrender quietly.

Thanks to my lucky stars, neither Becky nor Sia paid flying flick to what Drew had just uttered. Becky plopped her elbows on the desk, rested her hand under her chin, and cast a dreamy glance at Sia.

"So, how did it go? Did you enjoy kissing him or was it just meh?" Becky inquired, to which Sia blushed profusely. Aw, our shy little girl.

Her shyness prevented her from sharing the details, but we teased her to her bones which she would remember for the rest of her life. We were in the middle of our tease session when someone slammed their form on the desk with a bang. It was, of course, Grace, accompanied by her two horsetails, Piper and Ivy.

"You are supposed to work here, not pass the time," Grace stated, staring at me.

"Well, if you're that worried about work, why don't you place your itchy butts over here and do the honor yourself?" I retorted sweetly, making my pals crack up.

Becky haughtily picked up her form and started laughing uncontrollably. "Sex: F. Gosh, you are so bad at sex that you're failing in it?"

Her comment had us chortle and Grace and her two ponytails fumed in anger. Drew was laughing so hard that he couldn't balance himself and fell over on Sia, who in return fell face first on the desk due to the impact.

"If I am bad at it then you suck at it as well, which is why no one sticks with you." Grace hurled venom at Becky and before she could react, Grace stormed away along with her minions.

"That bitch!" Becky slammed her hands on the table. "I'm so gonna take her down."

Drew came closer to her and patted her shoulder reassuringly. "Becks, don't mind her because she doesn't and will never know how good you are in bed. I know how much of a wild cat you're in bed than any other out there."

Oops, he shouldn't have said that because saying that he brought death upon himself. Becky was about to lunge at him when someone slammed their hands on the desk, again.

Goodness, what was with people slamming their hands?

Though it was Harry, Grace's brother this time, who was fuming like a dragon and staring at me as if he wanted to ground me alive. Wait, but I did not do anything this time, did I?

"You stay away from my sister. You have grudges with me then better get it even with me, not her."

That made me gape at him. "Why on the god's green earth would I come in her way? If you're so concerned about her then better ask her not to come near me, because I'd never in the right state of mind go to her. And about getting it even, I'm so already done with you. Looks like you are not done yet, are you?"

I gave him a challenging look. A slight change in his facial expression was seen before he smirked and placing his palms on the desk, he leaned forward.

"You're damn right, I am not. And since you seem to enjoy challenges...let's do it face to face."

I was never raised to give up. If he wanted a challenge then he must have it.

I smirked, crossing my arms across my chest. "I'm game."

A huge grin spread over his lips as he stood straight. "Fine. Motorcycle race. After school. Hope you won't chicken out, Knight."

He walked backward, his gaze still fixed on me, then he switched his gaze to Sia. Holly ghosts, I forgot Sia was with us.

"See you later, sweets." He winked at her before getting lost in the other corridor.

I rolled my eyes and huffed. Just then, Joshua and Tory approached us. "What was that dickhead doing here? Did he say anything to you, Sia?" Joshua questioned with his clenched jaw.

"It was me," I commented before looking at Sia. "You okay?"

She nodded her head with a faint smile, assuring me that she was fine, I explained everything to Joshua and Tory about the challenge.

Tory laughed. "That idiot, he doesn't even know he has himself cornered in the danger zone. Damn Amara, you've got to win this race. Hell, I'll even have you borrow my motorcycle for it."

I grinned evilly. "He messed with a wrong person, man," I stated.

"Yaass bitch, let's kick his ass today." Becky squealed, pumping her fist in the air.

Three surprise tests in a row kept me from stepping out of the class and then our mathematics teacher held me back to help her evaluate the tests of other students. She just needed a helping hand to get the job done quickly so she could return to her event organizing task.

After I was done with it, I exited the class, stretching my arms to relax my tensed muscles. Owen had texted me to let me know they were waiting for me in the playground. I made my way into the corridor and hurriedly descended the stairs to the ground floor. While squeezing myself out through the chaotic hallway, I halted my steps when I noticed Amara and her gang hollering and pumping fists in the air.

Everything that happened in her room flashed before my eyes. I wanted to know if she had cooled down or if she still wanted to burn me alive with her ferocious glares.

I saw her excusing herself from her pals as she marched in my direction; she still hadn't noticed me but when she did, she averted her eyes and walked past me. What the-?

"Amara." I ran after her and stopped her by grabbing her wrist. "Why are you avoiding me?" I questioned.

An adorable frown appeared on her forehead as she looked at me. "Ask that yourself. It's you who doesn't want to see me, which is why you stayed hidden all day, isn't it?"

"What, no! I-" Before I could explain myself to her, Tory interrupted us.

"What's going on over here?"

Amara yanked her wrist out of my hold and rushed to him. "Oh, nothing. Let's head to tracks." She grabbed his hand and dragged him away with her, leaving me standing there, dumbfounded.

Furious, I too stormed out of the school building and approached Austin, who was the only one I found sitting at the wooden table under the tree.

Thankfully, Zoe wasn't there. I had kept an elusive distance from her since the morning after Amara admitted to being envious of her proximity to me. Amara, on the other hand, did not follow suit because she clearly preferred Tory over me and that left me hurt.

I plopped on the bench with a sigh and rolled my eyes when I saw Austin staring at Illiana who was conversing with some girls standing next to the wall.

"Give her a break, Austin. She's always with you, stop staring at her for once." I commented, making him eventually notice me.

"What, she's my girlfriend, she's beautiful and I love staring at her." He frowned.

I scoffed. "I don't understand why you do that. It's not that she's running away from you."

"You'll do the same when you'll have a girlfriend." He retorted with a smirk before carrying his gaze back to his girlfriend.

"How did it all begin?" I mumbled as I witnessed the pull of a magnet between them.

He turned his head to me, his brow creased, obviously, distracted. Sighing, I continued, "I mean this thing between you and Illiana. How did you know you wanted her by your side? Was it attraction, infatuation, or affection?"

"A mix of all?" He answered. His response piqued my interest even more. I wanted to know more, maybe to figure out what I could have been doing wrong that was making Amara avoid me more than she ever did.

"How did you confess her? How did you take it? How did she react?" I asked in a breath.

Instead of answering me, he laughed, bringing all of his focus to me. "Whoa, Why are you asking such questions, huh?"

That caught me off guard. Clearing my throat, I replied with a shrug, "Just curious."

His brows rose as he watched me intently as if trying to read my mind through my face. "You being curious about couples-related questions does not sit right with me. Is there a girl-wait did Zoe finally confess to you?"

If my senses weren't already on high alert, what he said just now, threw them off the cliff. Perplex, I exclaimed. "Zoe? What about her?"

His face marred with shock after hearing my question. "N-Not her?"

Then he smacked his fist on the wooden table; the impact of his hit had the already unsteady old table tremble. "Dang it, don't tell me it's Amara! Have you finally admitted to yourself that you have feelings for her?"

How in the world did he perceive that? Was it written all over my face? Was I being so obvious?

Not wanting to admit it to him just yet, I emphasized Zoe. "Why did you bring Zoe into it? What does she have to do with all this?"

He looked heavenwards at what it seemed like in disbelief. "C'mon Ryan, you can't possibly be that dumb in this area! Zoe has hots for you. But you clearly never saw that because you've always had strong feelings for Amara that you're afraid to admit."

Shocked by his revelation, my jaw hung low. "I- I- I never noticed that," I mumbled, basically to myself.

How could I have been so oblivious? Zoe and I practically remained glued together at school still I failed to observe her behavior? But I never had any sort of feelings for her.

Could it be possible that Amara saw it as well? Could this be the reason for Amara's jealousy towards Zoe?

Shit!

I panicked and peered through my glasses at him "Don't tell this to a soul."

"Not even my girlfriend?"

"Not even her," I replied in a clipped tone.

"C'mon bro, I share my body with her. Do you think I'll not share this with her?" He stated as if it was some obvious thing to know. Couldn't he spare the details?

Before I could warn him again, his girlfriend, Illiana plopped on the bench next to him. "Hey, what's happening?"

As if she had cast a black magic spell on him to share everything with her no matter how horrible it was to listen, he spoke I had asked him not to. "This guy here, who is my best friend as well, wants me to hide things from you."

Regardless of how understanding girlfriend Illiana was, Austin must have some personal space as well; that's what I felt. I took him to be a sensible one, but he was one lovesick fool.

Tilting her head, she gave me an incredulous look. "Ryan, I never took you to a manipulative one. What were you putting in my faithful boyfriend's head?"

Drowning me in guilt, she faced Austin and questioned. "What did he want you to hide from me?"

Smirking, he fixed his gaze on me. I shot him a pleading glance but he had already decided to unwrap me layer by layer.

"He asked a few questions that involve... couples."

That flew Illiana from her seat in surprise, making her land next to me in a blink of an eye. "What? Gosh, do you finally have a girl in your life? Who is it? Do I know her?"

She squeaked, shaking me vigorously as if I were a cocktail shaker. I refused to open my mouth, not wanting them to tease me, besides, I was still hesitant to speak openly about my growing feelings for Amara.

"It's Amara."

As soon as those words left Austin's mouth, Illiana squealed so loudly in my ear that I felt like fixing my appointment with a doctor right away.

"Oh my, freakin' finally. You have no idea for how long I'd been waiting to hear this. If you don't believe me you can ask Austin; I had told him that one day you'll admit that you like Amara."

Did she know all this as well? God, I felt dumber now. So much for being smart!

"Don't worry, Ryan, your secret is safe with us, and if you ever feel like sharing your thoughts or need some advice, we are always here," Austin said.

"That's it, I'm outta here." I flung my bag on my shoulder and stormed away.
