Amara Knight
Well, suggesting for everybody's good health, one must retreat their steps when they find a rather joyous woman standing alone, carrying a secret smirk whilst looking at her sharp, manicured nails. Something evil surely must have possessed her.
I felt like sprinting and hiding from Becky when I witnessed her in the same position. I stopped Sia, who was walking beside me but before I could retreat along with her, Becky ceased us from taking a single step back.
"Wait, you two."
Sia and I exchanged a startling look, then focused back on Becky. She came and stood before us. "You must be aware of the sports and cultural event our principal Fairy announced..."
She took a pose, straightened her posture, and squared her shoulders, and chin up. "Well, Mrs. Frey has selected me to play the lead, it's an act of some historical woman, I presume because Mrs. Frey hasn't given any particular specification about the character."
Sia and I nodded our heads in unison, still standing rigid. We dare not interrupt 'Her Highness' in any way. She had taken over her yet to be performed character.
"Adding to that, she provided me with an opportunity to find someone who could play the role of 'My Lord' with myself. However, before I could present my selection before her... well, excuse me for my language, some dick-ass..."
"Uh, Drew?" Sia and I interrupted her in unison which caused a massive smile to appear on Becky's face, making us gulp.
"Oh, my darlings..." She placed her hands under both of our chins and tipped up. "He has created such a pleasant image of himself, hasn't he?"
"Well, coming back to what I was saying." She pulled strict expressions again. "The night before, he knocked on Mrs. Frey's doors with flowers, chocolates, and of course, Chinese takeout, her favorite. He charmed her with his incredible flirting skills by fake complimenting her and in return earned a dinner invite there and then from her. There, he offered his name to play opposite me in the play. Already fascinated, she accepted."
"Now!" She exclaimed, making Sia and me flinch. "I walk with a sharp knife, a rope, and some darts to torture him with, once he comes in front of me." She narrowed her eyes at us. "You both are his good friends; tell me, do you know where he is?"
She questioned, making both of us shake our heads vigorously in 'no'.
She gave a stiff, suspicious nod. "Very well, then. If I fail to find him and I get to know you two knew about his whereabouts, I will be coming for both of you... with a sword, be prepared."
With that, she furiously walked past us.
"Uh oh, Drew's a dead meat now," Sia muttered, terrified. "Why does he have to poke the assassin inside of her?"
I huffed. "All I can say is...May his soul rest in peace. Now, let's get going."
"What, you're not gonna help him?" Sia gaped at me.
"What, no! He brought that on himself, willingly might as well come out the mess on his own." I retorted.
"Hey, girls!"
Sia and I turned at the voice of Joshua and saw him pacing towards us whilst juggling the basketball in his hands, showing off his skills to the girls in the corridor.
He stopped before us and twirled the ball on the tip of his index finger. "So, who's interested in watching me play?"
"Not me. Watching you practice is downright boring." I rolled my eyes, making his massive grin drop into a frown. Sia giggled.
He clutched the ball under his arm and glared at me. "Fine then." He grabbed Sia's wrist and pulled her to himself, his eyes still on me. "Wander alone in the school all day. I'm kidnapping your friend."
"What, no!" I shrieked and before I could pull Sia to me, he dragged her with himself. And my dear friend did not protest.
"Traitor," I muttered, stomping my foot. "What am I gonna do now?"
The classes after lunch were being terminated. As mentioned by Principal Fairy, the preparations for school sports and cultural events had begun. School's corridor had become a chaotic mess, since, the students had become more energetic to participate and help organize the event.
My squad had started the practice of the events they were to participate in. Becky and Drew went for drama, Joshua and Tory for athletics, and Sia for the guitarist in the musical play. I, on the other hand, hadn't decided what to participate in. I would participate in kickboxing, but our principal was yet in doubt about whether to include it in the competition or not.
"I should join the organizing committee perhaps," I muttered to myself and carelessly strolled in the corridor, thinking about what to pass the time with.
I made my way towards the school playground and then strolled to the track where I found Tory practicing racing with other students. Some students were practicing other sports.
Tory saw me and waved at me. I waved back at him with a smile and then pointed at the stands saying I'd sit and wait for him there. He ran two laps before coming to me.
"You look constipated, what happened?" He laughed as he threw his sweaty, stinky towel at me, which landed flat on my face.
"Eww, Tory!" I screamed and threw the towel back at him. Laughing, he sat beside me.
Wrapping his arm around me, he pulled me to his sweaty body. "What's with the glum face?" He asked.
I let out a tiring breath, then pouted. "Everyone's busy with the practice. I'm just bored."
"Then why don't you participate?" He asked casually, taking the liberty to open the zipper of my school bag and took out my water bottle. I didn't say a word since it was a usual thing amongst us. "You're athletic, why don't you participate in a race? What about a mixed relay race?"
My eyes lit up at his suggestion. "Yeah, I could do that! Aside from the management team, I could participate in that."
Squealing, I pulled him in a hug but immediately pushed him away realizing he was still sweaty.
"Then it's done, we're gonna form a team." He uncapped the water bottle and poured the water over his head. Then he drank the water, but suddenly he stopped when his eyes caught the sight of something or someone on his left.
"Hey, Jasper, you want water?" Tory yelled and after getting a nod of approval from Jasper, he threw the bottle at him, however, before the bottle could reach him, a guy came in between and the bottle slammed into his head.
The guy was none other than Owen.
"Shek!" I immediately rushed to Owen to see if he was injured. Tory followed me.
"Hey, you okay? Are you hurt?" I asked and tried to see his head but he pushed me.
"Stay away, Amara." He snapped, rubbing his head. He then faced Tory. "I know you did it intentionally. You saw me coming here."
"Hey, bro, it wasn't intentional. I was throwing the bottle to Jasper. You can ask him if you have any doubt." Tory replied to clear himself from the accusation. Two of them glared at each other, all set to knock the opponent out.
I intervened. "Hey, Owen, Tory's right. He didn't mean to hit you."
Owen scoffed. "Of course, you'll take his side." And with that, he stormed away from us.
"What's with this guy? I even called him bro, still his heart did not melt, can you believe that, Amara?" Tory gaped at me in surprise.
I walked back to the stands whilst speaking, "Well, the history of two of you doesn't allow him to trust you." Once on the stands, I crossed my arms across my chest.
"Was that intentional?" I questioned him, making him rush to me and grabbed my hands.
"What, no! Don't you trust me?" He questioned. I sighed, observing his face. He wasn't lying.
"I know you did not do it on purpose." I gently yanked my hands from his grip and patted his shoulder. Just then, my eyes caught the sight of Ryan and Zoe from over Tory's shoulder. They both seemed to have a good time chatting.
"Hey, what are you looking at?" Tory followed my gaze over his shoulder. Ryan's gaze met ours and I averted mine.
Suddenly, I felt Tory's hand cupping my face which caused me to look at him with a frown. He rubbed his thumb on my cheek, smiling.
"I knew you trust me." His words came out in a whisper. "I swear I don't bully anybody now and all the credit goes to you; you have changed me."
His fingers traveled up to my forehead and brushed the stray hair stands lingering there back to my head. His touch...it didn't feel wrong, rather it was awkward. We were close, but what he did this time was different.
Willingly, I switched my gaze to Ryan, who I knew was watching us, and found him staring at us with clenched jaw and fist. In an instant, he stormed away from there with Zoe running after him.
What had happened to him? What was that look in his eyes? And for god's sake, what's with the people storming away!
"Bullseye!" Tory chuckled, which brought my gaze back to him. He then ruffled my hair and stepped back.
"What, what did you say?" I enquired.
"Oh, nothing. Alright, you sit here, I'll go back on the track." He said and ran back on the track.

"Hey, what happened to you? Why did you run away like that? You had me jog in the noon." Zoe panted when I stopped to sit on a bench far away from the racing track.
I couldn't focus on what Zoe said because Tory's smirk, which was intended to ridicule me before he cupped Amara's face kept swirling at the back of my head. What did he want to prove by doing that? That he was close to Amara?
Why did Amara not oppose him when he touched her...so intimately? Couldn't she tell that what he did was anything but friendly? Or could something be going on between —No.
I would know it if something were going on between them. They were just friends.
I couldn't understand one thing: Why did it affect me? Why did the scene almost have me separate them and drag Amara with me?
What else than to protect Amara? I convinced myself. Tory wasn't a good guy and must not linger around her.
"Hey, earth to Ryan!" Zoe snapped her fingers, making me come back to the present.
"Oh, yeah, sorry." I apologized and sat straight on the bench.
Sighing, she sat beside me. "Sometimes I don't understand you. You were laughing your heart out with me and then you went gloomy when saw Tory and Amara."
"It's nothing, Zoe. You know Tory and I never get along." I replied.
"Oh, yeah, how did I forget that!" She sighed. "Anyway, see, I had my nail extension done yesterday. How does it look?"
She waved her fingers before my eyes, showing off her turquoise-colored monochrome nails.
Chuckling, I swatted her hands out of my face. "How'd I know about such stuff? And nail extension? Don't you have your natural nails that you had to have them extended?"
She gaped at me. "I spent hours and a good sum of money on it and this is what I get? Not even 'Zoe, it looks good on you?' Wow, you still need to learn a lot about girls."
I laughed. "I'm good the way I am. But seriously, though, what was the need of it?" I questioned about her nails and earned a punch on my arm in return.
"Hey, what are you guys fighting for?" Austin approached us along with his girlfriend, Illiana. She was back from vacation and these two love birds couldn't stay away from each other for even a second.
Illiana was one sophisticated, smart girl who barely had any haters. She perfectly complemented Austin, who was a decent, smart, and composed guy too.
"Oh, Illiana, thank you for coming back or I'd have lost my mind with the boys." Zoe stood up and stood by Illiana.
"Aww, I am back now, you can share all the girly stuff with me." Illiana passed a sweet smile.
Austin patted my shoulder. "Man, take my advice... If you're planning to have a girlfriend, prepare yourself because you'd never hear the end of girly stuff. Speaking from experience."
I swatted his hand from my shoulder and stood up. "I have no such plan."
"You don't plan such things, bro." He smirked before walking away with his girlfriend.
Zoe picked up her bag from the bench. "So, one of these days you're gonna help me with math. And I'm not going to listen no. You canceled last time, but this time that's not gonna happen."
"Hey, we're free right now. Let's hit the library now." I proposed.
"Oh dear," She laughed. "Ryan, I love to study, but I need rest, too. I can't keep my head in books twenty-four-seven like you."
"Are you claiming that I'm no fun?" I playfully raised my eyebrows.
"No, I'm not." She slowly came closer to me and looked directly into my eyes. Her hand slipped on my upper arm. "There's never a boring moment when with you, Ryan."
I gently pushed her hand away from my arm and smiled. We then strolled aimlessly in the playground since we didn't have much work to do. We were still deciding whether to participate or just have fun watching the event.
I made sure we stayed away from the racing track because I did not wish to see Amara together with Tory.
