Bryn Atkinson's POV

Today's my birthday, the day I turn into a legal adult. Eighteen. I was actually frightened to be an adult, taking serious measures to ready myself for responsibility. Anyways, It was Saturday in the afternoon, I was chilling my Dad, Aspen, and Nikolai. We spent the morning together, opening gifts and eating cake. It was fun, and currently, we were in the living room mingling with one another when I received a text from Jared. My father saw my furrowed eyebrows as I looked through the phone.

"Hey, I gotta' go somewhere for a little bit, Aspen said he would tag along too. Isn't that right Aspen?" My dad said, looking at Aspen who was sitting on the couch.

"Yeah, that's right," Aspen said a bit quizzically. "We were supposed to have a... Business meeting with Mr.Ramos."

"Oh," I replied, furrowing my eyebrows. "Well, that's okay. Jared said he had to tell me something at his place either way. Thanks for the surprise you guys." My father and Aspen gave me a kiss on the forehead goodbye. Nikolai gave me an extra lollipop before going off to do some of his duty's and I was left alone. I'm grateful for the amazing birthday I got, knowing that people love you are the most amazing feeling in the world. Sometimes, people just don't appreciate what they have in life.

I got up, grabbing my jacket and slipping on my shoes before going out the door. It was chilly, the cool wind breeze was refreshing. I always looked at the ground when I walked, because you happen to find the most surprising things on the ground. Sadly though on my walk, I didn't really find anything. I finally reached the apartment, a little worried about what Jared had to say.

I walked up the stairs, even though Eliazer wasn't with me. I felt guilty whenever I took an elevator, memories would flood my mind of our unlucky situation. My feet dragged just remembering everything. I lazily went up the stairs until I reached the door. I knocked twice, hearing Jared's obvious shuffling until he told me to let myself in.

I did, turning the doorknob hurriedly, trying to get in. I closed the door, quickly taking off my jacket and hanging it on the coat rack. I turned around but was met by an outstanding scene.

"Surprise!" Everyone yelled. Gemini, Gray, Bruce, and Benji we standing behind the kitchen table whilst River, Tanner, and Eloy were sitting at the table. Jared came towards me, placing a birthday hat on the top of my head. I was grinning from ear to ear, enjoying the moment. But then I realized something.

Someone was missing.

I felt empty but hid it with a smile. I went towards the table as Grayson began grabbing gifts from behind the counter. I felt gushy, a good feeling knowing that my friends did this for me.

"Alrighty, blow out the candle Brynnie." River said, placing a paper cupcake in front of me, the candle neatly on top. Tanner rolled his eyes, taking out a lighter before carefully lighting up the candle, making sure not to touch the paper. I blew the candle, everybody screaming in excitement.

"We figured your dad would give you a cake, so we brought candy instead," Gemini said, bringing out two large bags of candy.

"Oh my god, thank you guys so much." I genuinely said. "I'm keeping this cupcake forever." But the shadowy figure by the door caught my attention, seeing somebody trying to sneak out.

~

Eliazer King's POV

I stood inside my room, trying to anticipate the moment I should sneak out. Jared didn't tell me anything, so when I heard people coming inside the apartment, I locked myself inside my room. Of course, it's Bryn's Birthday. Jared would do anything to make her a surprise party.

Hearing as they all cheered when Bryn blew the candle, I dashed to make my escape, which may I add; failed. "Eliazer!" Bryn yelled out. I stood cold in my tracks, slowly turning around, my boots makings a squeak on the wooden floor. Everyone was dead quiet while Bryn smiled at me, a warm and genuine smile. It felt nice. Jared warily looked at everyone, seeing as how they avoided eye contact with me.

"Join us," Bryn said, beckoning me over. I felt a warmth spread through my body as she said that. Even the littlest words she said somehow made their way towards my mind. I didn't know what to do, my hand was glued to the doorknob as our stares were glued on to each other; Bryn and I. "Please?" She urged.

I sighed, giving up as I slowly walked towards her. I made sure I stood my tallest, hands to my sides with my head held high, a habit I had made up for myself. Bryn smiled up at me as I took a seat next to her, not uttering a word, but she seemed fine with that. And I liked it.

I like how she didn't complain about anything. How she would always want to brings someone's mood up when they were down, how she didn't think only about herself. How she would furrow her eyebrows in the cutest way possible. And when she looked at me, it was different. It's like she accepted me for what I am, who I am.

Jared gave me a pat on the back, placing his snapback atop of my head in a playful way. A smile wanted to take over my lips as I saw the paper cupcake laying on the table. It's nice how she has friends that care about her, a family that cares about her. But it's like they say, a family is whoever's there for you, not by blood.

I look at Bryn, making sure the hat was covering my face. She looked back at me in silence, the warm smile still covering her face. And my words made everyone in the room gasp in amazement.

"Happy birthday, Bryn."
