"Are you coming tonight honey?" her mother asked over the phone.

The week flew by surprisingly fast and before she knew it, it was the day before Seth's birthday.

Cassidy placed the phone on loud speaker as she rested it on the bed so she could continue packing.

"I am. I've almost finished packing everything."

"Are you sure Lisa's okay with you taking this week off as well?" Martha asked worriedly.

"She is. We talked about it last night," Cassidy said, trying to keep her voice as normal as she could.

She always hated lying to her mother. Lisa did call Cassidy last night, but it was to tell her that she was letting her go. The bad press on the bakery was scaring away customers and several customers had mentioned they weren't comfortable with Cassidy working there. Lisa had been really apologetic and had even said that maybe when things calmed down, they could reconsider the decision.

Cassidy wanted to be mad at her, but she couldn't find it in her. She understood where Lisa was coming from. At the end of the day, that was Lisa's business and she needed to make the money to pay her rent and other workers. Surprisingly, the person Cassidy had directed her anger to was Rose.

This was all her fault. Why was she evading the police? Why was she out murdering people? She was just making Cassidy's life hard.

"Okay well that's great. It'll be wonderful to have you here for a few days," her mother gushed, pulling her out of her thoughts.

"I really need some family time," she murmured. And she meant it.

She needed some sense of normalcy in her life back again. And maybe being home with her parents would provide that.

"What time are you coming?"

"Wyatt said he'll give me a drop this evening. I should be there by six."

"Wyatt?" her mother questioned.

Cassidy groaned and laughed.

"Is that all you heard?" she asked her mother smiling.

"Well, it's rare that you ever mention a man's name. And Wyatt's name had been popping up a lot recently."

"Because he's the lead detective on the case."

"And the lead detective has to drive you over to our house?" Martha teased.

"I am not having this conversation with you mum," Cassidy said smiling.

"Don't worry. There's plenty time to talk about it."

Cassidy laughed. Her mother's match making skills were never asleep.

"Finish packing. I'll see you later. You father mentioned he'll be home early tonight so we can have dinner together."

They said their good byes and I love yous and hung up.

She had decided to spend a week at her parents. Since she had no job to hurry back for, it made no sense coming back early. The only thing she would really be missing was dinner with Wyatt. But she was sure she could convince him to come to dinner one night at her parent's house. She was sure her mother would love that.

Later that evening, Wyatt knocked on her door and greeted her with a smile and brown paper bag at the door.

"What's this?" she asked as he handed her the bag.

"Open it and see," he answered as he walked into her apartment.

Instead of their usual kitchen hang out, he headed to the living room. She peeked in the bag as she followed him.

"You got me a brownie?" she asked surprised.

"I was passing by the bakery on Smith, and you mentioned the other night you like their stuff," he said shrugging.

Cassidy felt her heart strings pull a little. He remembered something she had said offhandedly and got her a brownie. What was the appropriate reaction to this?

"Thank you," she said sincerely.

He smiled impishly and ran his hand through his hair. His shyness made her smile more.

"Are you ready to go?" he asked, changing the subject.

"I am," she said nodding to the bags in the corner.

"Are you planning on staying there forever?" he joked.

"A week actually. I have the free time, so I figured why not."

"Aren't you supposed to start working in a few days?" he wondered.

Cassidy briefly considering lying to him as well, but the truth wouldn't hurt. Wyatt had already seen firsthand what the media conference had done to her life.

"I was fired actually," she said, dropping down onto the couch.

"What?" he asked shocked, sitting next to her.

"Lisa called this afternoon and said that with the way things were looking, it probably wasn't best I came back to the shop. And customers have mentioned to her that they didn't want me working there as well. I mean I understand where she's coming from. Who would want the sister of a serial killer working in their store?" she joked, forcing a smile.

No matter how unaffected she tried to act, the truth was it bothered her a lot. From now on, she was going to known as the sister of a serial killer.

"I'm so sorry," Wyatt said, placing a hand on hers.

She smiled softly.

"So am I. But it is what it is. I'm just going to enjoy spending the extra time with my family."

Wyatt nodded.

"Maybe some time away from everything will do you some good."

Cassidy laughed.

"That was exactly what I was thinking earlier. We're in sync," she joked making him laugh.

"Let's get you to your parents. There's surprisingly no media downstairs so we better make a run for it."

There was actually one reporter downstairs. But he was busy on his phone and didn't notice Cassidy and Wyatt as they quickly made their way to Wyatt's car.

When Wyatt pulled up in front of her parents' house, Cassidy found herself reluctant to leave. She had enjoyed the brief trip. The more time she spent in Wyatt's company, the more she was beginning to like him.

"I hope you have a great stay with your parents. And eat plenty of cake for me tomorrow," he joked.

Cassidy smiled.

"I will save you a slice."

He turned to her surprised.

"Save me a slice?" he questioned.

"I was hoping you would join us for dinner sometime this week. I know you'll be busy with work, but you have to eat at some point," she rambled.

He smiled.

"I would love to come to dinner."

"Great," she said smiling at him.

"Is there a particular date you have in mind?" he asked her.

"No not really. Just let me know when you're free. I know my mother would love to have you over any day you wish to come."

He smiled at that.

"Let me help you with your bags."

Before they could reach the door, it opened with her parents standing before her.

"Cassidy! I was wondering what was taking you so long," her mum said rushing forward to give her a hug.

It was a bit awkward with the bags Cassidy was holding but she did her best to make it work and kissed her mother on the cheek.

"I told you I was coming around this time," she reminded her mother shaking her head.

She was sure her mother had been at the window waiting to see when Cassidy and Wyatt pulled up.

"Good to see you sweetheart. Let me get those bags," her dad said, taking the bags from her hand.

Her mum was staring at Wyatt expectantly.

"Mum, this is Detective Wyatt Long. He has been a huge help in the case with Rose and a good friend of mines."

Martha beamed at Wyatt.

"It's so good to meet you. I've heard great things about you from Cassidy and her father," Martha said shaking his hand.

"It's my pleasure. Good to see you again, Mr. Freemont."

"You too Wyatt. How is the case coming along?" her father asked.

"We're doing the best we can," Wyatt answered diplomatically.

He wasn't supposed to be sharing details about the case. She knew that. Even though he shared details with her.

"I hope you find her soon," Martha said worriedly.

"So do we."

"I was just telling Wyatt about coming to dinner one of the nights I'm here," Cassidy said changing the subject.

She knew her mother would latch on to that quickly. If there was one thing Martha loved, it was match making. And she had made it her personal business to try and get Cassidy settled with someone. Not that that plan was working.

"Oh yes, you should join us for dinner a night. Is there anything you particularly like to eat?"

"I'm not a picky person. Anything you cook will be fine. Cassidy assures me you're a wonderful cook," Wyatt answered which made her mother smile more.

Martha loved compliments. Especially about her cooking. And her parties.

"Well, we'll organize a date," her mother said beaming.

"Okay, let's all go inside and let Wyatt go home," Cassidy said, herding her mother to the door.

"Yes he's probably exhausted from work," her father said, taking her mother's hand and pulling her through the door.

"I'll see you later this week Wyatt. So lovely to meet you," her mother shouted as Leon dragged her into the house.

Cassidy couldn't help but smile.

"Your mother seems excited about having me over," he commented once the door was closed.

"She's excited about playing match-maker," Cassidy mumbled.

"Match-maker?" Wyatt teased.

She shook her head.

"My mother's life goal is to me settle down. Never mind that I'm only twenty-three."

"It's not a bad goal," he joked.

She took the few bags that he was still holding.

"Call me if there's any new information," she pleaded.

He nodded.

"Enjoy the party tomorrow."

He leaned forward and pulled her into his arms for a brief hug and kiss on her forehead.

"Please be safe."

"Promise," he said with a smile.

She watched as he got back into his car and drove off. Her parents were waiting for her in the entry way, not even bothering to hide the fact that they had been watching through the window.

"He seems nice," Martha said smiling.

Cassidy groaned.

"I'm going to my room," she said laughing.

"I approve of him," her mother shouted behind her.

Cassidy smiled as she walked up the stairs. She approved of him as well.
