AMBER RAIN:

"If we can't face death, we'll never overcome it. You have to look it straight in the eye. Then you can turn around and walk back out into the light."

As I leaned in closer to the blue eyed man in front of me, his grin widened. It wasn't a grin that reached his eyes, it was one that brought out his more sadistic-look. That look was what was making my body shake after every breath.

"Come on now, darling, don't waste my time." He clapped his hands together and made his spinning chair spin in a circle while laughing. "Too much to do. Too much to talk about." His chair stopping spinning, his eyes darkened. "Don't test me."

The sudden mood change had me picking up the pace slightly. His grin grew once more at the reaction from me.

I leaned back in the cool leather chair and it instantly sent shivers down my spine, the goosebumps licking my sticky skin. I tucked some hair behind my ear and crossed my arms across my chest meeting eye contact.

"Do you have any idea why you have been taken to my headquarters, Amber?" He asked while picking at the desk. His long nails making an eerie scratching noise.

"No." I spit before turning my head in a direction away from his gaze, breaking my staring contest with the striking eyes. I instantly felt a new wave of tears rush over my body. "Why am I here?" I whispered softly, brokenly.

"Well, believe it or not our families actually have something in common." He said with a slight edge to his tone. "A connection."

"I'm. . .I'm pretty sure I've never heard about this place or this. . .family." I drawled out while placing my right hand on my temple.

"Oh yes, mio caro, think long and hard about your situation." He said while leaning closer to me. He leaned over me, as if he was examining me, looking for any trace of truth on my face.

"Please." I whispered. "I don't know. I have been at college for the past six months." His eye twitched

"ENOUGH! Quit bullshitting me and admit you know the truth! You know what your father is." He hissed. "He would have told you!" He yelled while gripping the desk harshly.

I leaned back in the chair further and blinked away tears. "What t-truth? My father is a business man!" I cried out. "I swear it! I don't know about your family or this house or. . .anything!"

"Don't raise your fucking voice at me, Amber!" He screamed while standing up at his towering height once again. He turned to walk around his large desk, and he looked pissed.

In that moment I knew I couldn't stay here. I wasn't sure what he was going to do with me but I had many ideas. He would kill me, he could put me into sex-trafficking, he could rape me. I could see the fury burning behind his eyes and the tense muscles under his suit.  He was psychotic and I needed to get out. Now.

"Don't try to escape. I know how you like to. Runner. If you do, the house will go on lockdown and men will be everywhere, you won't be able to take a step down those stairs."

Shadow's voice rang out throughout my head. I turned to look at the doors and back at the man who now stood in front of me. His eyes were challenging.

I was screwed here and I was screwed out there. But right now all I could think about was getting away from this man. He truly terrified me. He was behind everything that has happened so far.

He leaned forward, holding eye contact. "Don't. Even. Think. About it." He hissed coldly while grabbing my wrists and pulling me up.

"Let go." I breathed while struggling against his firm hold.

"No, I need to take you somewhere." He said while letting go of one hand and running it through his hair.

I couldn't take it. I pulled extremely hard and his grip faltered, allowing me to push against his hard chest. The man -unlike Shadow- was expecting my move. He grabbed my forearms and pulled me to his chest tightly, snarling heavily.

"You should know," he growled. "I hate people who resist me."

I shook my head before doing something I would most likely regret later on. I spit right on his face. He turned his head and released my hands quickly, to wipe it off.

I turned at the opportunity and bolted to the doors, making sure I didn't stumble over my heels. I reached the knobs.

The doors that were locked minutes ago were suddenly not. Who. . .

A weird feeling settled within me but I shook it off and ran out the doors.

The long corridor seemed to go on for miles as I tracked along it. I tried to remember the way Shadow had led me as a way of escaping.

I heard pounding feet along the carpeted floors and instantly felt the same dread from last night settle deep in my bones.

I turned to see that man, the boss, running after me. He was yelling into a black cell pressed between his cheek in ear, his free hands loading a gun with lots of led. Lots of bullets.

I heard sirens go off around the house as I picked up the pace quite a bit.

I knew I shouldn't have struggled because now I'm in the worst trouble if I get caught by him, his men, or Shadow. I raced to the left and continued down the path, portraits of people mocking me.

In front of me was the large staircase from before. To my left I saw another hallway with doors along the sides and to my right the same. They each led into the wings of the mansion.

I didn't have all the time to decide which way I should logically go so I sprinted down to the right as men began crowding the entrance to the staircase. Shadow's threat ringing true.

They were rushing up them quickly, a few of them seeing me and pulling out weapons and more speaking Italian into their cells.

This hall seemed to be even longer than the last one, and it was darker. There weren't any windows against the walls, no light was coming in.

I heard the strong Italian voice of him barking orders. He was full-on screaming in rage. I couldn't turn around, it would be too risky.

I started to jiggle handles on random doors; the hallway led to a dead end. My luck just kept getting better and better.

All the doors seemed to be locked and I began to hear footsteps back from where I just came. They were going to find me soon if I couldn't find somewhere to hide.

Finally a door pushed in and I fell into a large bedroom. I stood up in a hurry, quietly shut the door behind me. I twisted it into a lock and backed away from it.

I heard shouting echoing along inside the hallway. "Find her! So help me if she gets away somehow you will all pay!" Boss man screamed in fury.

I turned and examined the bedroom. I saw dark blue walls with white crown moldings. The furniture -a king sized bed, a couch, and some coffee tables- were all colored in black. The windows were covered with drapes, making the room seem cold and forgotten. There was open door to the left of the bed and a small light on inside it. It was a bathroom. No one was occupying it. The carpet under my feet was dark blue and soothed my aching arches. Above me there was a large chandelier, a manly one. It was off and I was shaking.

I needed somewhere to hide incase the men decided to search this room. Which they will. Don't be stupid. I looked around and concluded the most hidden place would be under the bed.

Cliché as it seems, anywhere else would be an instant give away. It just seemed the most logical under there. I couldn't afford to waste time pondering decisions.

I dove under the bed and pulled the black bed skirt down and smoothed out the bunched cloth to avoid looking like it had been disrupted in the first place.

Without the little bathroom light I was in total darkness. Of course.

I heard doors slamming and opening. I heard voices yelling: 'Clear!' or 'Search that room!' I shuddered. Some other threatening words were spoken but they were in Italian.

The sirens had stopped blaring. The silence scaring me more. I had to limit my breaths, I couldn't move a bit.

I heard the pop of the door being unlocked as I sucked in a sharp breath. I heard it close carefully as footsteps sounded softly along the thick carpet.

I gripped my mouth to avoid panting and pulled my legs to my chest.

The footsteps seemed to circle the room quickly. I heard the bathroom door shut and I noticed that the main light in the room came on, a stream of light coming under the bed.

The door reopened and the person yelled 'Not here!' And closed the door shut. The person didn't have an Italian accent I caught. It was almost boyish.

I breathed out a huge sigh of relief knowing that I was safe - for now. I wasn't sure how I planned on getting out of this gated, armed, secluded area at all. But as long as I wasn't near Shadow or that boss I would be okay. I had to believe. I had to be okay. I was stronger than surrender.

I quietly lifted the bed skirt and realized I was facing the back wall, not the door. I carefully slid out of my hiding place and turned around to face the door.

Right in front of me stood a tall man with blonde hair and clear blue eyes. He was the same man from outside, the one guarding the gates for exiting and entering. The one who had lingered his gaze on me.

I opened my mouth to scream as his eyes widened. He leaned forward and gripped my mouth with his hand, pulling me into his suit-covered chest, wrapping his arm across my chest, his hand gripping both my wrists.

"Shh. Don't struggle. I am not here to harm you!" He whispered ferociously while maintaining to keep my flailing arms down with one hand.

"Please, Amber, you know who I am."
