Bulbasaur locked his gaze with the Lanturn and focused more on the onion like Bulb on his back...

Ash had mentally told him that Lanturn was in a weakened state due to a high speed Ice Fang from Luxio so it would not be very tough to take it down. Just keep your defenses and trust on your instincts to dodge so that you don't take too much damage. Bulbasaur was not worried about that...

...His time with his previous mistress during the training sessions were more like an all out brawl. She used to leave them on an open training field and tell them to fight with each other. After that it was just the survival of the fittest. And you can only take so many hits before you learnt that defense was the best offence and instincts were your best friend during a fight.

It was a pity that Bulbasaur didn't have any long range attacks. Ash was trying to teach him Razor Leaf but it was not yet completed or else Lanturn would have been done with the moment he stepped on the battlefield.

His vine whip was not long enough to hit Lanturn. So that left only one option...It is going to be clever...It was going to be fun...

'Bulbasaur remember Leech Seed attack? Just use multiple seeds instead of only one and blast them at high speed towards Lanturn...It may act as an improvised Bullet Seed attack' Ash commanded.

Bulbasaur focused on the organic substances inside his bulb and concentrated grass type energy into his maw. Then he took in a large breath and blew it towards the Lanturn...

Nearly hundreds of small green colored seeds covered by a flickering green light went towards Lanturn at high speeds.

Lanturn appeared shocked for a moment as it was still dealing with the effects of Luxio's Ice Fang and intimidate.

"DODGE LANTURN!!" Violet screamed. Lanturn sluggishly waved its injured fins and tried to dodge the seeds of impending doom coming at him.

Unfortunately the ice had gone a little too deep inside Lanturn and so quite a few number of seeds him it straight into the face...

What's more? The seeds actually exploded. Lanturn was blown away by the small explosion of seeds on its face...It was actually hoisted above the water level due to the explosion...

Violet's eyes widened as her electric fish was launched into the air. A brilliant idea came into her mind as she yelled out to Lanturn, "LANTURN USE THUNDER WAVE WHILE IN THE AIR!!"

Ash's eyes widened in shock as a blue stream on electricity descended towards Bulbasaur from above. His clever mind easily saw through her tactic...It was dirty. Underhanded but clever nonetheless.

Bulbasaur will not be able to dodge the upcoming Thunder Wave which will effectively paralyze it. Violet must have already known that Lanturn was going to be eliminated soon. So why not give an annoying status problem to the enemy while you are going out so that your sisters can easily deal with it?

The thunder wave hit Bulbasaur straight on his face and soon he felt the paralyzing electric current in his veins. Bulbasaur shuddered and shivered as the blue torrent of electricity started to paralyze his muscles.

Lanturn who was in the air dropped down on a platform and didn't get up. Its eyes changed into swirls soon afterwards.

"Lanturn is eliminated from this match! Gym leaders send out your next pokemon!!"

Violet recalled her defeated pokemon with a small smirk on her face as she noticed the cold gaze of their mysterious savior that day upon her. He was getting annoyed.

"Let's end this Marshtomp!!" Lily released her pokemon as she took the stage once again.

The injured Marshtomp which had fought Luxio appeared on the battlefield with a cry of its name and looked at his opponent.

"Marshtomp use Aqua Jet!!" Lily ordered. Marshtomp jumped as calm blue water covered its body as it shot forward like a bullet towards Bulbasaur.

'...Bulbasaur I know this will hurt but as soon as Marshtomp comes into the striking range use Leech Seed!' Ash told him in desperation. He knew Bulbasaur won't be able to dodge. The paralyzing torrent of electricity was powerful...So he did what he could.

His prediction was indeed true when he saw Bulbasaur get hit by Marshtomp who was covered in water. Despite being a 'not-so-effective' attack as per the typing that must have hurt Bulbasaur quite a lot due to being paralyzed.

Although a small wave of satisfaction hit him when he saw Bulbasaur discreetly launch a medium sized seed covered in green aura at Marshtomp.

Marshtomp swam to a nearby platform and stood upon it with an almost victorious expression when he felt slender vines wrap around himself. Its eyes widened to comic proportions when he felt a small seed with thorny vines embed itself on its right leg.

And then started the pain.

"MARRRSSSSSSHHHHHHH!!"

The ground/water pokemon cried out in pain as he felt his energy get slowly drained from him. Bulbasaur slowly crept up from the place he had collided with when the Aqua Jet had hit him with a look of smug satisfaction when he felt a small amount of drained energy heal him a little.

Marshtomp was now covered in thick thorny vines that were sapping its energy and transferring it to Bulbasaur.

Lily's eyes widened as she saw those vines with thorns wrapped around Marshtomp...This was bad. She yelled out to her pokemon, "MARSHTOMP! GO UNDERWATER AND TRY TO FREE YOURSELF!!"

Underneath the water Marshtomp would have better mobility due to being water type. And it needed all the mobility it could gather to escape from those deadly sapping vines. Marshtomp slowly and sluggishly dived inside the water of the swimming pool.

Ash gritted his teeth in frustration. Bulbasaur didn't have any moves to hit Marshtomp underwater...

...But who said that he couldn't improvise?

'Bulbasaur use Vine Whip and dip your vines in water as deep as you can!' Ash ordered Bulbasaur through aura. Bulbasaur pondered about this for a moment before he realized what Ash was planning.

He extended slender green vines from his Bulb and dipped them into the water. Ash smirked as he saw exactly how deep Bulbasaur's vines reached. It would be enough for what he was planning. The 3 sisters raised an eyebrow as the Bulbasaur did that.

'NOW BULBASAUR! GATHER AS MUCH POISON POWDER AS YOU CAN AND DISSOLVE THE POISON INTO THE POOL WITH THE VINES!' Ash told him.

It was a perfect plan. Bulbasaur was basically using the vines as conductors for the poison and then transforming the pool into a poisoned swamp. And since Marshtomp was underneath the poisonous swamp so...

Ash chuckled cruelly...Wait a second...Gah! He's gotta spend less time with that bloodthirsty electric kitten...He was a bit sadistic but that was just too much...

Soon Bulbasaur's vines turned a deep malicious purple in color and all the color drained from Lily's face. She knew exactly what was going to happen now...Marshtomp was going to drown in a poisonous swamp...

The water in the pool soon started to turn a light violet in color and soon enough it was pretty obvious that the whole water in the pool was poisoned.

"MARSSSSSHHHHHHH!!"

A shrill cry erupted from the pool as a dull blue figure came out of it with a splash...The Marshtomp gasped for breath and coughed. Some thorny vines were still wrapped around its waist which were still draining its energy...

It was pretty obvious that Marshtomp had breathed in the poisonous water and now he too was poisoned.

Lily growled in annoyance. Their challenger was certainly a smart one. She 'tch'-ed and instructed her pokemon, "Marshtomp let's give it out all! Aqua Jet! FULL POWER!!"

Ash had to suppress a wince as he saw an enormous bullet of murky purplish poisoned water move towards Bulbasaur at high speed. Bulbasaur couldn't dodge it...He just knew it.

And his hunch was correct when he saw the Aqua Jet hit Bulbasaur and he went flying across the swimming pool.

Bulbasaur got up on his legs shakily on the platform he crashed into...Ash knew Bulbasaur couldn't last long and was about to give an order when something strange happened...

...Greenish colored 'flames' erupted around Bulbasaur's body as Bulbasaur yelled out, 'I'LL NOT GO DOWN SO EASILY!! I JUST GOT A FAMILY THAT APPRECIATES ME AND LETS ME READ MY PORN IN PEACE! I HAVE A TRAINER WHO MAKES ME STRONG AND BELIEVES IN ME! AND I'LL NOT DISAPPOINT HIM YOU HEAR THAT YOU GODDAMN MUDFISH!! I AM GONNA WIN THIS!!' He yelled with enthusiasm as the size of the greenish colored 'flames' around Bulbasaur increased.

The green light that had engulfed Bulbasaur rose to the size of 8 feet and soon Bulbasaur only became a phantom figure between those 'flames'...

Then it all fell into place as Ash realized what was happening...It was the dormant ability of a Bulbasaur which took YEARS if not DECADES to master...It was Overgrow...The ability that was supposed to be a passive skill which boosted a Bulbasaur's power when the health dropped really low...It was supposed to be a passive skill not an ACTUAL power to be accessed on will...Currently those green 'flames' around Bulbasaur were actually pure, raw, untamed grass type energy that Bulbasaur was exuding.

'How can this be?' Ash asked himself as Bulbasaur actually roared and shot forward like a spaceship while covered in those greenish flames. Bulbasaur had used Take Down while being covered in that...grass type aura, Ash realized.

Lily was too stupefied to speak but somehow managed to utter the words, "M-Ma-Marshtomp, final attack! Muddy Water!! FULL POWER NOW!!"

Marshtomp too was covered in brownish colored water as it stood up and almost half the water in the swimming pool rose to the size of a gigantic tsunami wave...

The two pokemon who now looked like majestic titans clashed in the middle of the battlefield with an absolutely enormous,

BOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!

Water splashed around and the cries of the two pokemon reverberated throughout the gym as both of them hit each other in the middle of the battlefield.

When the dust and water settled down Ash wiped some water from his face to see the condition of the battlefield. Every damn thing was devastated.

Bulbasaur stood on shaky legs on one of the few platforms that were left in a slightly better condition than the others and Marshtomp was standing on another one while glaring at Bulbasaur...

Both the pokemon's had their gazes locked on each other but then Marshtomp's power of its legs gave up. He fell down on the swimming pool with swirly eyes and then Sebastian announced, "Marshtomp is unable to battle –"

THUD!

He was interrupted by another 'thud' as Bulbasaur fell down unconscious too.

"...Ahem...Both Pokemon are unable to battle! Leader and Challenger are requested to send out your next pokemon!!"

Ash only heard the faint whisper of the words before Bulbasaur's aura connection to him was severed and he went unconscious, '...I...won...for...you...Ash...Thanks...'

Ash felt a genuine smile lit up on his face as he softly gazed onto the Bulbasaur...No...His Bulbasaur...Another member of his family who had won for his sake.

'Thanks a lot Bulbasaur...Thanks a lot' He silently whispered and recalled his fallen pokemon into the pokeball.

He locked his cold gaze with the only leader who was left and felt a warm flame of determination lit up in his chest. He has gotta win this...For Bulbasaur.

Ash and Daisy both stood on different ends of the devastated battlefield and clenched their pokeballs for the final clash.

With that they tossed their pokeballs into the air with a flash.
