Hey Wattpad!

So, first, I think I should explain that dedication is to all those who lost someone or were affected by the shooting in Denver, Colorado. It's something that should NEVER happen to anyone, ever. Praying hard for everyone... I know it happened a couple of days ago, but still.

Now, onto the better feeling stuff! Hope you like this chapter!! I never expected this to end up happening this way, so I guess all that's left is for you to enjoy this extremely long chapter:)

Also, thank @Hyperactive_Nadia for this:) I was going to do a long chapter, but she convinced me it was probably easier to understand if I just divided it into two.

And finally, happy birthday to @supersparkle!! Hope you have/had an awesome day!!!:)))

So, have fun?:)

CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR

“Why can’t he or she just pop out already?!” Rania complained, making our table sigh.

“Maybe he or she likes it in there.” Wes suggested. He’d joined me, Cam, Matthew, and Rania at our table since he was no longer a threat to Cam.

Matthew laughed. “That’s true, Ray.”

Rania glared at Wes. “You know, I could easily pin you to the ground and sit on you.”

Wes’s eyes widened. “Whoa! No need for harsh punishments! Matthew was the one who laughed!”

This time Matthew started spluttering. “But, he said it!”

I watched, smiling in amusement. My friends were actually insane.

“Watch her clunk their heads together and sitting on them both.” Cam muttered into my ear.

I looked up at him, laughing a little. I couldn’t resist kissing him quickly. It was actually our last Monday in the cafeteria, and we were going to be crossing the stage in just five days.

It was crazy.

I already knew I was going to take a year off, figure out which college was best for me. Maybe I’d get an apartment, maybe I’d live in my dad’s house for another year. Cam was going to go to UTA in the fall, Matthew was going to Baylor University to major in mechanical engineering, and Rania had decided to follow my lead; take a year off before college. She wanted to spend a year looking after her baby. I had no idea what Wes had planned, but that was because he refused to tell us.

“What are you thinking about?” Cam asked, rubbing my back.

I bit my lip. “The future. We’re all going our separate ways in just a few of days.” I told him.

“I know. It’s weird, isn’t it?”

I nodded, not taking my eyes off of the interaction going on between Matthew and Wes.

“You know we’re going to be ok, right?” He asked.

I nodded again, smiling a little as I remembered prom. “Of course. We have a promise to keep, remember?” I asked, fiddling with the necklace that lay hidden under my shirt. It used to be just the gem Cam had gotten me for Christmas, but now it also had something a hell of a lot more valuable.

“True. This is very true.” Cam muttered, kissing the top of my head.

“Aw, look at you guys.” Rania said loudly, making me jump.

“Dammit, girl!” I snapped. “Way to ruin a moment.”

Cam laughed, and put one leg around my other side so he could wrap his arms around my waist. “Yeah, Rania. We were talking about ma-,” I elbowed his ribs lightly, giving him a look.

“What happened to not telling anyone?” I asked, trying to be quiet.

He rolled his eyes. “I’m sure everyone’s figured it out by now.”

“No they haven’t! It’s not like I’ve been going around telling anyone. Have you?”

He shook his head. “No, but I would think it’s obvious.”

“What the hell are you two talking about?” Rania asked, angrily.

I paused, looking at her. “Cam, I blame you for this. See, it’s clear she has no idea.”

Cam shrugged. “We had to tell them all at some point.”

“Yeah, when it was official!” I reminded him, slightly annoyed. I was in no way ready for the endless questions that I’d get from doing this.

“Tell me before I decide to let these two off and sit on you instead!” Rania warned.

I gulped. “Um…” I didn’t want to get sat on, but at the same time we weren’t ready to tell. Well, Cam might be. I wasn’t.

“We, uh,” Cam tried, looking helplessly at me.

“This is your own fault you know.” I told him, sighing. “Fine, let me simplify this for you.”

I was about to pull out my necklace, only to be stopped by the bell ringing.

I grinned. “Can’t be late for class!” I forced Cam to stand up. “You are not getting a goodbye kiss for that. And I swear if you tell anyone I’ll make you wait even longer.” I warned.

Cam nodded. “Got it. Lips locked, action sooner.”

I laughed. “Exactly. Love you.” I said, running off to Choir.

“Love you too!”

I couldn’t stop smiling; two months of hearing that and I still loved it.

I reached my seat, and groaned when I realized Rania was in the class with me. As I’d predicted, our director had told Rania, very nicely, that she couldn’t come to the Spring thing with the Choir. So I’d, very nicely, told the director the day of that I’d lost my form and I couldn’t go either. It had been a fun class.

Now we had nothing else to do, so each day was a free period basically. We were allowed to do pretty much anything, as long as we stayed clothed, and didn’t break any rules. We could even leave the room as long as we stayed on campus and didn’t disrupt any other classes.

“TAYLOR LIZZY QUESSIE, I WILL SIT ON YOU!” Rania yelled.

Shit. She only shortened my middle name from Elizabeth to Lizzy when she was seriously pissed off. The last time she’d done it was when she saw I’d slept with Cam.

“No!” I screeched, dumping my stuff on the chair and running towards our director’s office.

“What’s going on?” He asked.

“Rania’s threatening to sit on me.” I told him, trying to get into his office.

“Rania! Stop threatening to sit on Taylor! Taylor, what did you do to annoy her?”

I held up my hands innocently. “I refused to tell her something that has nothing to do with her.” I said.

He sighed. “Good luck.” He said, shutting his door again.

“You better tell me tomorrow at lunch.” Rania said, pointing. “I refuse to let you get away with this.” She said, gasping suddenly and grabbing her back, her face contorting in pain.

“Shit! Are you ok?” I asked, forgetting everything.

“Yeah. I’m fine. I’ve been getting these little pains since about an hour ago. It’s probably just Braxton Hicks contractions. The doctor said they can happen close to the end of a pregnancy.” Rania told me, waving it off. “Can you write down the time somewhere though?”

I sighed, nodding in relief and jotting the time down on my phone. “Jeez, girl, don’t scare me like that! How about we sit down and just talk? I can’t tell you the secret yet, but I’ll tell you when I’m ready to, ok?”

She agreed, grabbing a chair and sitting on it.

I followed her lead.

“So, can I just ask you something?” She said.

“Sure.”

“Are you pregnant?”

I shook my head. “No, we’d know if I was. The last time we had sex was New Year’s.” I told her.

“Wait, you had sex on New Year’s? When?”

I frowned. “I thought I told you this.”

“You might have, but tell me again. In detail this time, so I remember.” She said, making me laugh.

I told her the tale of New Year’s and was just about to finish, when Rania gasped.

I stopped abruptly, as she said, “I’m fine.” She breathed, trying to stand up and failing. “Shit.”

My eyes widened. “Shit? What’s going on?” I asked, terrified.

“Tay, um, when was the last thing like this?” She asked me.

I checked my phone. “It was at… 1:12PM.” I told her, still worried.

“What time is it now?” Rania asked me, sounding oddly calm now.

“1:23PM. Rania, what’s going on?” I asked again.

She looked at me, waiting for something. Then I realized. “Shit! Rania, what are you supposed to do?” I asked, panicking.

“Relax. I don’t have to worry until they’re 5 minutes apart. I thought they were just false labor pains, but apparently false ones can fade if I get comfortable. These didn’t. They’ve been getting closer over the past three hours.” Rania said.

I jumped up. “We should still tell Matthew at least! Maybe he can get to your house to get the bag of stuff you’re supposed to have?” I asked.

Rania looked a little guilty. “We thought I wasn’t due until after graduation. We haven’t got the bag ready yet.”

I took a deep breath. My best friend was going into labor; one of us had to stay calm.

“Rania, I’m texting Matthew for you. No, actually, I’m calling him. He’s going to get you home to get a bag ready, and then you’re going to go to hospital. Then, finally, you’re going to keep me updated throughout my last period, ok?”

“Fine! You know I’m only letting you do this because you’re the babies godmother, right?” She asked, sounding annoyed. “Great, now I have to pee.”

“Go pee, I’ll call Matthew and tell Mr. Director what’s going on.” I said. I called him Mr. Director sometimes because it made him laugh, and we’d need him in a good mood for this.

I knocked. “Mr. Director? We have an actual situation right now.” I said.

The door opened. “What happened?”

“Rania’s going into labor. Can I call her boyfriend out of athletics so he can take her home?” I asked.

“Uh, sure. Which athletics?”

“Soccer.”

I called Matthew while Mr. Director was focused on calling the soccer coach.

“Tay? Is everything ok?” Matthew asked.

“Rania’s in labor. Contractions are eleven minutes apart.” I told him. Rania walked back in, clutching her side.

“Shit these hurt.” She muttered, taking deep breaths and clutching the door as though it were a life line.

I checked the time. “Make that nine minutes apart.” I said to Matthew.

“Ok, Coach just told me I’m free to go. What the hell do I do?” He asked.

I almost laughed, but managed to stay serious. Right now was not the time to have a sense of humor. “Come and pick Rania up at the front of the school. I can get her to your car. Take her to her house and get whatever crap you need for the hospital. When the contractions are five minutes apart, take her there.” I ordered, smiling slightly when I realized I knew my shit.

“Right. Got it. Front of the school. Five minutes or I’m driving in.” He warned.

This time I did laugh. “Calm down. See you in a minute.”

I hung up, grabbing Rania. “Come on, Matthew’s at the front of the school.” I told her.

“Can I yell at him? Because this hurts, Tay. It really hurts.” She whimpered. I half dragged her to the front of the building.

“I know, just breathe. We’re almost there.”

We reached the foyer, where Matthew was pacing impatiently. “Thank God! How are you doing?” He asked Rania.

“I want some pickles.” She said, simply.

“She sounds ok.” He said, just as another wave of pain seemed to hit Rania. She bent over, panting heavily.

“Shit, shit, shit! I swear to God Matthew if the actual giving birth is anything like this I will hurt you!” She hissed, gripping his hand.

Matthew’s face paled. “Ah, ok, release the grip a little hon.” He muttered, glancing at me desperately.

I checked the time. “8 minutes apart. Get her crap, get her to hospital. Make sure you tell Misty what’s going on as well. Keep me updated.” I told him.

“Sure thing. Tell Cam for me, yeah? I don’t know if I’ll have any feeling in my hands after this.” Matthew joked, earning another hand breaking squeeze from Rania. “Got it. Leaving. See you later.”

I watched as he helped Rania into a seat, and sighed. Damn… had that really just happened that fast?

Well it had happened fast to me. She’d been going through that pain for hours already.

I pulled my phone out, texting Cam, Wes, and Tiffany to let them know that Matthew and Rania were getting ready to go to the hospital.

When the message had sent, I sighed again. After the past few months, hospitals were getting annoying. I just hoped that after today I wouldn’t have to be in one again.

Unless, of course, it was to keep that second promise I made for Cam.

I reached the Choir room, letting the director know that I’d tell him more tomorrow, then started staring at the clock.

By the time school was over, I was too nervous. Neither Matthew or Rania had text me, and it was freaking me out. Hell, not even Misty had text me, and I was sure she would have got my number to let me know what was going on.

“Cam, what if something bad happened?” I asked as I made him drive us to the hospital.

“Tay, I’m sure everyone’s fine. They’re probably just focusing on getting Rania to be careful.” He reassured me, using his spare hand to take mine.

I sighed, again. “I know, I’m just… I guess I’m just worried for her.”

Cam squeezed my hand. “She’ll be fine. It’s probably going to hurt her, but she’ll be fine.”

“Yeah, I can’t help being worried. She’s like my sister sometimes.”

“Just relax.” Cam said.

It was hard, but I managed not to sigh again.

We reached the hospital, and I literally had to get dragged back. “Don’t. Running will make it seem a lot worse than it is. Like I said, she’s fine. She’s probably drugged up right now.” Cam reminded me.

Damn him and his good reasoning.

I didn’t say anything, just let him keep me from running. I kept expecting it to be like in movies, where the woman goes into labor and just an hour or so later she had a beautiful baby.

Based on the occasional TV show, however, I knew that we probably had a good few hours left of labor before she gave birth. I’d probably be done with school tomorrow before she gave birth.

“Hi, Rania Riles?” I asked the receptionist, happy to hear I didn’t sound freaked out.

She nodded, typing away at her computer. “She’s in room… 845 in the maternity ward. Take a right at the end of the corridor, then take a left.” She smiled, and I thanked her with a smile of my own. So she wasn’t in a delivery room yet. Good.

“Seriously, relax. You’re going to give yourself a panic attack.” Cam told me.

I groaned. “I am relaxing.”

“Good.”

We walked in silence the rest of the way until we found the room. Technically we found Misty first.

“Hey, guys. How are you?” She asked.

“We’re ok, how’s she doing?” I nodded towards the room number Rania was in.”

Misty frowned. “She’s in pain. Apparently she’s having contractions but the baby isn’t actually fully ready yet. She’ll probably end up having a C-section. Of course, first she’ll have to deal with a good thirty hours or so of labor.”

My eyes widened. “What? Is she going to be ok?” I asked. I was starting to panic again, only this time Cam didn’t bother trying to calm me down.

“Yeah, she’ll be fine. But it’s going to be a very painful journey.”

“So, do you want us to do anything or can we go in and see her?” Cam asked.

“You might be able to stop in. Honestly all we’re doing right now is waiting. How about I text you when something interesting starts happening?”

“Fine by me. See you later?” I hugged Misty.

“Definitely. I don’t think you’ve slept over enough this year.” She laughed.

“I know, usually by summer you’re doing everything to keep us apart.” I joked. “Guess that’s not going to happen again. Well, text me when you know anything.”

I dragged Cam to the room, knocking before I went in. “Guys?” I stepped in, seeing Matthew sitting on a chair and holding a sleeping Rania’s hand.

“She’s trying to sleep, but the contractions are coming every five or so minutes.” Matthew said, rubbing his face. He looked beyond exhausted aleady. “I didn’t think it would be this stressful, and he or she hasn’t even been born yet.”

I gave him a quick hug. “It’ll be ok. Misty promised to text me when something interesting happens.” I told him, and he nodded.

“Alright. I’ll tell her you stopped by.”

We took the cue to leave, said another bye to Misty, and left.

It was 11PM the next night when Misty finally called. I’d spent all day being distracted, but the good news was we weren’t doing anything in school anymore; it was too close to the beginning of the year.

My phone’s ringtone startled me awake, and I answered it completely drowsy. “What’s up?”

“They’re prepping Rania for surgery. The baby is ready but the umbilical cord wrapped around his or her neck.” Misty told me.

My body froze, and I finally understood what people meant when they said their blood turned to ice. Right then, every drastic thing I’d feared about this birth was running through my head. “I’ll be right there.” I managed to get out.

I changed into some sweats and a random t-shirt, calling Cam as I did.

“Hello?” He mumbled into the phone.

“Rania’s having her baby.” I said, quickly telling him what was going on.

“Shit! Ok, do you need me to pick you up?” He asked, already sounding alert.

“Yeah and fast.” I told him.

He hung up, and I wrote a quick note for my dad, taping it onto the TV; he’d notice when he woke up.

Cam was there in barely any time at all. We didn’t talk throughout the journey, instead spent the ride going as fast as we could without getting into trouble.

When we reached the hospital, I ran to the room where Rania had been in yesterday.

“Where is she?” I asked the second I saw Misty. It was obvious she’d been crying, so I wrapped my arm around her shoulders, rubbing her arms.

“She’s… she’s in surgery. They’re worried the baby won’t live.” Misty sobbed, leaning into me.

I couldn’t help the tears that fell. This baby had to live. No way in hell was he or she dying. Not now, not this close to graduation.

“Oh God…” I muttered, swallowing the urge to cry. I was going to stay strong for Misty; I had to. “Does Rania know?” I asked.

Misty shook her head. “They don’t want to scare her more. Matthew knows though. He’s in there with her.”

I nodded, not saying anything else. Cam took the seat next to me, taking my hand and gripping it tightly. I looked over at him, surprised to see how devastated he looked.

“Are you ok?” I whispered to him.

He looked as though he was considering lying, but shook his head. “No. It reminds me too much of… the crash.” He told me.

“Shit, Cam…” I gave his hand a gently, reassuring squeeze. I couldn’t imagine how bad that must have been for him; this was surely easier than that had been.

It seemed like hours later, and it must have been at least two, but finally a doctor came out. “Rania Riles?” He asked.

I shook Misty, who had fallen asleep on my shoulder.

“That’s us.” I told him as Misty shook herself awake, saw the doctor, and stood up.

“How’s my daughter?” She asked.

The doctor smiled, and instantly I knew something had gone right. “She’s healthy. Very tired, but she’ll be fine.”

“And her baby?” I asked.

His smiled didn’t falter, making me smile back a little. “She has a perfect little girl.”

“Yes!” I yelled, hugging Cam.

He hugged back, laughing. “What are you so excited about?” He asked.

I grinned. “When that little girl goes to her prom, I’m going to be her fairy godmother! I’m going to buy wings and everything!” I squealed, earning a couple of weird looks from the couple of people who were there and somehow awake.

Misty laughed, sounding more relieved than anything. “Can we go see her yet?” She
