1 NEW MESSAGE FROM FAMILY GC!
I looked up from my dinner plate, watching my phone light up from across the room.
2 NEW MESSAGES FROM FAMILY GC!
Letting out a groan, I set down my unfinished food and scrambled over to my desk. I had chosen to eat alone, to spare myself from any questionable looks May would throw my way, but it was definitely lonely.
34 NEW MESSAGES FROM FAMILY GC!
"Jeez," I scoffed, flipping my phone over, "what is going on?"
Swiping into my phone, I pulled up the messaging app and stared at my screen. Unbelievable.

I clicked off of my phone, setting it back down on the table.
I hated writing, so jotting down my life in a diary didn't seem like an option. I guess I had to find something else. Scanning the room, I started to shuffle through some of the desk drawers, searching for something.
Wedged behind an old comic book, I saw a tiny Video Camera tucked away. Pulling it out, I flipped it open and pressed the media button.
No Video File!
I scrunched my forehead in confusion. It must have been wiped a pretty long time ago.
"This will have to do," I said, setting it down on the desk, "alright."
Pressing the Record button, I waited for the tiny red circle to appear. Once it did, I hesitated, unsure of what to say. There wasn't much to tell, or anything good to tell.
"Hi," I started, "I'm [y/n]."
It wasn't a bad start, I'd just have to keep going from here.
"This is the first video of my adjustment period, and I already screwed up," I sighed, "I told someone I'd break their arm if they insulted my friends, and now the whole school is mad at me.
But... I'm used to it. Everyone starts to hate me at one point. I wish I could tell them that it wasn't me who did the bad things, and that it was the other side of me, but in the end..."
I paused, swallowing my spit in nervousness. It was hard admitting this, but maybe the person watching would understand.
"It was me," I finally said, "I did it, even if I don't remember it. That's the truth, and I can't change it. I just hope this week is over soon."
Nodding my head in conclusion, I reached over to the camera and turned it off. It was good finally getting my feelings out, even if the recording would never be seen.
I felt calm.
At peace for just a second.
"Holy crap!" I heard a muffled voice yell from the other side of the wall.
It was followed by a loud thud, and a painful groan. Peter must have fallen off of his bunk bed again.
"Pete, you okay?" I heard May say, running towards his door.
"Yeah, I'm okay."
"What were you doing?"
"Uhh- nothing!"
It was nice hearing May so worried about him. Even just the tiniest noise, and she came running. She really cared about him...
... and that got me thinking.
Picking up a textbook from the bookshelf across the room, I held it above my head and waited till the voices next door quieted down. This was a stupid plan, but I wanted to know.
Wanted to know if someone would come running.
Bracing for the noise, I let the book slip from my fingers, and come crashing to the ground with a giant noise.
There was still silence after the fall, as if I was in the apartment alone. I waited another minute, staring at the closed door in hope, but soon that disappeared.
No one came.
