Ice Skating

The music was playing and the sound of ice skates filled the empty ice arena air. The repeated slicing of ice, the beat of the music, it was constant and it echoed throughout the empty building.

Curiosity got the best of me and I peeked my head around the corner of the locker room to see her.

She landed on one foot and then spun, so elegant, graceful, beautiful. I was lost in a trance as I watched her move to the music, she looked so free. So gorgeous. Too bad she thinks I hate her. I sighed, and shrugged off the feeling before putting on my own ice skates. Too bad for her that coach made us partners.

"Zack." I swear I could hear the disgust in her voice.

"Sierra." I said, readjusting my gloves.

"What are you doing here?" She turned to me her dark hair twirling, and her dark eyes watching me closely.

"Well, coach made us partners." I said, getting closer, she raised an eyebrow and scoffed.

"Why would she do that?" She said crossing her arms.

"The next competition." I shrugged, and her jaw dropped. I couldn't hide my face in time before I smiled.

"No." She let out a breath.

"The two best skaters on the team go to the competition, don't you remember? Coach's exact words." I smirked, as she scowled at me.

"How did you get that spot?" She glared and I just shrugged my shoulders. I wasn't going to tell her I begged the coach and practiced days on end just to be her partner.

"Same as you, working hard." She shook her head and changed the music to something fast, but I grumbled and came up behind her and took her phone.

"What are you doing?"

"Not this type of music." I mumbled, "Something slow." I changed the music and saw her sigh.

"I don't like slow." She protested.

"Too bad." I grabbed her hands and took her towards the middle of the ice rink. The music flowed with her, and she twirled and she felt perfect for me.

She was the perfect partner, what she lacked in technical I made up for, what I lacked in grace and beauty, she made it up. I couldn't take my eyes off of her, as she executed the routine perfectly.

"See I'm not that bad." I chuckled as she crossed her arms.

"No, I guess not." She said quietly, like it was a sin to even give me a slight bit of praise. "But, you were distracted some of the time." I felt my heart beat a little faster, and my face warm.

"I've just got a lot on my mind." I rubbed the back of my neck and went to restart the song.

"Like what?" She sounded angry.

"Nothing." I said. Her hand wrapped around my wrist and I turned to see her furious.

"If you can't be focused, you can't be my partner." She said. Her grip tightening.

"I wasn't even supposed to be your partner! I just begged and worked my ass off so I could! Damn it!" I yelled. Her grip loosened and she looked up at me.

"What do you mean?" I looked at her. I took her face in my hands.

"You're the distraction, the reason I begged coach to let me skate with you. It's always been you." I confessed. She just stared at me and I swear I saw her eyes tear up but she turned away before I could really tell.

"Why would you do that? You act like you hate me. You-" I cut her off by a kiss. She felt like she melted into my arms. Like she was made to be in my arms.

"Because...how can I pass up someone like you?" She opened her mouth but when I raised an eyebrow she shut it and just leaned into my chest.

"How can you not?" She whispered.

"I can't pass up one of the best ice skaters in the world, the most beautiful woman I've ever laid eyes on, the most precious thing I've ever held, I can't pass you up Sierra, because you're perfect...just perfect." I said, her arms wrapped around me and we stayed like this for who knows how long. It felt right.

"Zack." Her voice reached my ears.

"Hmm." I kissed the top of her head.

"Can you stay being my partner?" Her hug tightened like she was scared I'd leave.

"Always."
