..........

The sound of a closing metal gate woke me up with a bad headache. My surroundings were blurry, and every bone in my body felt like they could crack in any second. The sound of silence enveloped around me as if the sound I heard earlier wasn't there in the first place. Just silence.

I closed my eyes for a second to reduce the pain, but the pain came back. Even worse.

I let out a helpless yelp while opening my eyes again. My back was hurting. It wasn't any ordinary pain. I had to suffer to survive.

I reached for my back and laid my hand on it. It hurt a little bit, but I got used to the pain. I was wearing some kind of weird white plain clothes. It looked like some sort of uniform. I slightly lifted up my shirt and got greeted by the view of countless scars carved on my skin. I started questioning where those scars came from. But I couldn't remember anything.

The pain came back. This time, from my head. I reached for my hair and pulled it tightly trying to control the misery that I was feeling. It was like the pain was preventing me from remembering things. It was worthless to try anyway.

I shook my head as the pain started to let go of me. My sight was getting clear.

The only thing I saw were tall fenced bars around me. I realized I was lying in a room. No. I wasn't just lying in a room. I was trapped.

As the sudden realization hit me, I stood up with all my force and started hitting and kicking the door aggressively. Over and over again. I started to get bruises all over my arms as I kept hitting the door nonstopping.

"GET ME OUT OF HERE!" My throat started to hurt as I shouted in pain.

"I DON'T BELONG HERE!"
I shouted again while slowly sliding off the door, and landed on the ground, as my weak body gave up as soon as I saw the blood dripping from both my arms.

My mind was drowning in despair. All hope was lost. I slowly let out everything by a single breath of sadness.

"Why?"

"Why is all this happening to me," I asked myself again.

I was trapped in a place that looked like a prison. A place where I don't belong.

There was nothing to look up to. I had to accept that I'm trapped here for the rest of my life.

The unknown pain stroke again.

My back started hurting. It was probably the injection. I just can't remember anything.

I lifted my head and started examining the room. I only saw a bed and a tiny bathroom. I sat tiredly on the bed and looked down.

Why am I here......

"Psst"

I lifted my head and listened closely. Did I just hear something in this dead silence?

"Over here"

I approached the door and looked out of the bars. There was a hallway behind that door. But little did I know, there was another cell on the other side of the small hallway. And in that cell, I spotted a person. Wait, a person? Another human trapped in this place, like me?

I couldn't believe my eyes. I looked closely and saw a girl. It didn't look like there was something wrong with her, in fact, she was sending me a warm smile. I somehow felt relieved that there was someone near me, even though it was on the other side of the hallway.

"Your name?" the person asked.

"uhh...Y-Yoo Jeongyeon"

"It's nice seeing you here, I don't know if 'Welcome' is the right word to use in this place, but I'm glad that I found someone to talk with"

The girl looked happy despite being in this place, I wish I could at least feel one percent of that happiness she had.

"Uhh, your name?" I asked.

"I can't tell you"

"Why not?"

"Can't tell you that either"

"What?"

"It's okay. It's better for you if you don't know.......yet"

"Yet? Will I get to know it later?"

The girl remained silent for a couple of seconds. Was she hiding something? She started to seem mysterious to me.

"Look; It's kind of complicated, but it's not something important. Don't worry about it"

I had a lot of questions I wanted to let out, but I thought it would be better to save them for now.

"Okay. How did you end up here?" I asked instead.

"I was forced to come here. I never knew why, but I remember being dragged here against my will. I've been here for some time now. What about you?"

I stayed silent for a while.

"I....don't...know"

The girl narrowed her eyebrows.

"You don't know?" She asked with a confused expression.

I looked down without answering.

Suddenly, a door opened and a guard entered. He started walking through the hallway and every time he came closer, it sent shivers down my spine. His big shadow looked like a door to hell, and his deadly weapons were glowing on his belt like they were telling me it was time to be tortured soon. I started sweating and shaking.

When he reached my cell, he stopped.

That's when I felt my heart drop.

A sound of keys and a sound of a click that unlocked the door filled the atmosphere.

Was it finally the time I could be free again?

Even though my body was shaking, a tiny bit of hope started filling inside me.

Was it finally the moment I've been waiting for?

The door opened and the man took a step inside. He had something in his hand. Something sharp. This looked like the same injection I had earlier.

"Hey kid, it's time for your first experiment"
