Sitting outside patio eating breakfast.

My phone started to ring, I turned it around to see Emily's contact. Emily is my cousin, her and my aunt are my only known blood relative on my mom side of the family. I haven't spoken to her in a while. I miss her. She always knows how to lighten up my mood.

She's getting married to her high school boyfriend. It's honestly adorable how long they've last. They've been dating since they were 16 and it's been 7 years. And he finally put a ring on it.

She's probably calling to remind me to RSVP.

I answered the phone, "Emily hi."

"Hey Scarlett." She said in a dispiriting voice.

"What's up?" I said looking at Jacob, he's gawking at me, he wiped his mouth with his napkin and rested his back on the chair.

'My cousin' I mouthed at him. He raises his eyebrows.

"How are you? I heard what happen, I'm so sorry."

"Sorry for wha- oh right," I bit the inside of my mouth harshly. "It's okay— I'm fine. H-how did you find out?" I was okay before she brung him up again. Jacob gave me an empathetic look, I know he's listening in on my conversation.

"Well his lawyers called my mom."

"Right of course."

"She just told me today. I'm so sorry you're going through this. I hope you're not doing it alone."

"I'm not alone," I said smiling at Jacob. "I'm okay. I'm sorry you had to find out the way you did though."

"Girl it's okay, I can't imagine what your going through right now. When you didn't reply to my wedding invite I figured something was wrong, but I wouldn't have guessed it. I couldn't imagine your grief. Oh now I feel bad about even thinking about a wedding."

"No don't feel that way."

"I can't help it— I wish I was there with you right now so I can hug you."

"Don't feel bad, I'm okay, we weren't even close—so y'know."

"Yea but you must be torn up about it."

I sighed. I didn't want to talk about him any more. I looked at my food in disgust, I didn't want to eat anymore. This conversation is making me lose my appetite.

"How's your fiancé?" I asked desperately trying to change the subject.

"Rick? Oh he's fine. But how are you?"

"Emily I'm okay. Really. I'd be a lot better if you'd stop asking me."

"Okay I'm sorry."

"Don't say your sorry, you did nothing wrong."

"I know— I wish there was something I can do to make you feel better."

"I'm okay." If I have to say I'm okay one more fucking time, I'm going to scream.

"Okay, alright. I also called to let you know that I'm coming up there for the reading of the Will."

"I forgot about that."

"I'm glad that I reminded you. It's this Thursday."

"Right."

"We'll go together."

"Actually I haven't decided if I'm gonna go."

"You definitely need me to come."

I shrugged my shoulders. "It doesn't seem right." I said. Jacob stood and came to my side. He turned the chair to face him and crouched down in front of me.

"Hmm, well I miss you." I said looking at Jacob in front of me, trying to contain my grin. He took my free hand and kissed it.

"I miss you too."

"Text me your flight details. Okay?"

"I will, but listen I got to go pack. I'll you get back at you later."

"Okay."

"Bye."

"Bye."

I hung up and placed it on the table, "What are you doing?"

"I wanted to kiss my girlfriend." He said putting his hand at the side of my face and sliding it down my curls. I placed my hand at his wrist and snuggled into his hand. "Unless I can't do that anymore."

"Of course you can." I said tilting my head down, I kissed him. I lifted my head back up. I gave him a quick smile to let him know I'm okay. I'm really not but I don't want to talk about it, not with him.

"Can I use the bathroom?"

"You don't have to ask me." He said standing. I got up and walked inside the house and to the bathroom downstairs. I opened the lights and looked in the mirror and saw my face; water filled my eyes but I wiped them immediately. I don't want to cry anymore, I'm tired of it. I wet my face and dried it, but doing that just made more tears fall. I dried my face with the towel that was on the hook then I walked out. Jacob was leaning on the wall with his hands in his pocket.

I closed the door behind me. He stepped in front of me and cupped my face. I closed my eyes.

He kissed my lips and I stayed emotionless, for the life of me I didn't want him to stop but I also couldn't bring myself to kiss back.

He sucked on my bottom lip, and I love it when he does that. But I turned my head and took his hands from my face.

"I need to get to school Jacob." I whispered. I walked past him and felt that he didn't follow me, I wanted him to though. I walked out his front door and called an Uber. I walked out the gate and walked out front.

I wish, I would've just let him kiss me longer and maybe he would take me to his bed and kiss me longer; kiss more of my body. Everything about feels good. But I think I'm pushing him away, Katie tells me I do that a lot that's why I don't have too many friends and I think she's right.

When the Uber came, I got in and sat in the long drive. I didn't feel like talking, I just played games on my phone until I arrived at school.

I walked into the school doors and went straight to my locker. I left my book bag at home; luckily most of my things are in my locker.

Katie's locker is right next to mine, she wasn't here. I texted her:

I'm mad pissed at you. We need to talk.

I went to home room, I didn't know anybody in this class— well except for a guy named Evan. I have her for home room and my last class of the day, she is really smart. He let's me copy his homework sometimes. He's nice. But he's not here either, so I had no one to talk to, people in the class were being uncivilized. So, I just sat at the back of the class alone and waited for the bell to ring.

I had art next, I guess I'm usually with Garret in that class. I walked in and took my assigned seat. I got my pencils prepared, I think I'm pretty good at sketching but Garret is way better. He draws these beautiful weird sketches, we usually have have to draw what we feel and I suppose he does.

I turned to a fresh page and waited for the class to fill, I was the first on in the class. I texted Katie again when I felt someone sat besides me and I felt their eyes on me too. I turned my head and saw Garret.

"Hey." He greeted.

"Hey Garret." I say back softly. I go back to my phone and continue to text Katie.

"Scarlett?"

"Yes."

"I'm sorry."

"For what."

"For last night."

"Oh," I said, I almost forgot. I didn't care anymore though, Jacob completely took my mind off how mad I was. He has a way of doing that. "It's okay."

"How did you get home?"

"Uhm... Jacob. He came and got me."

"You guys are cool now?"

I shrugged my shoulders. The bell rung and the class door closed.

"Alright class, I want you guys to continue to work on the sketch of someone you admire. Now remember it doesn't have to be perfect. And if your done with it, you have my permission to leave the class." Mrs. Gazelle said. I haven't started mine yet. Garret started to draw, I wasn't focusing on him though, I was starting my own work. I wanted to draw Katie and give it to her later when it's graded, maybe as a way to say sorry for whatever I did.

30 minutes later Garret's Sketch was almost done, I just watched him draw. He wasn't paying attention to me, which was weird since he was drawing me. I didn't want to disturb him, he seems to be very focused. I was just watching him in awe, no one has ever made a gesture like this to me before. He drew me as I was a half an hour ago, I had a long face but he made it beautiful.

My phone vibrated and Katie finally texted me back:

Katie: I not mad at you specifically I am mad at my brothers bc they found out about Kevin and they took him somewhere I haven't seen him in days and I'm just worried is all. Jacob isn't answering my calls. Have you heard from him?

Me: he is at his new place, I was with him last night he didn't say anything about this to me.

After that, she didn't text me back.

After school, I took the bus to Katie's house. I went up to her room. The door was unlocked so I just walked in.

"Katie?" I called opened her light.

She covered her face with her blanket, "Close the lights, what's wrong with you!"

"You didn't come to school today and you didn't text me back!" I Shot back.

"You're room smells like death."

"Alright then leave."

"I'm the one that should be in bed! Not you!" I screamed. I pulled her blanket away and threw it across her room.

"You bitch!"

"You're the bitch! You take a damn bath, you smell nasty." He hair is messy, clothes are everywhere, and it smells weird in here, and her breath most likely smells like yesterday's alcohol and today's ass.

"You take bath."

"I already took a bath. You are the one who needs a shower."

"What are you even doing here?"

"What do you mean what am I doing here? I'm here for your dumbass. You're being a bitch number one, number two you didn't come to school so I had to sit through study hall all by myself, number three you ignored me at your party and you really hurt my feelings."

"Fuck you and your feelings."

"Fuck you!"

"Can you get out of my room now?"

"No I'm not leaving until you tell me what's wrong with you?"

"Your what's wrong with me, I'm tired of you. Now get out of my room!" She screamed throwing a pillow at me. I threw it back.

"This is about Kevin, right?"

"It's none of you business."

"Yes it is. I am your best friend and when your hurting so am I, when you smell like ass and need to take a shower I'll be here to force you to do that. Why? Because know else is going to put up with you bullshit. Now you are going to take a shower and your going to brush you teeth and I'm going to start cleaning up this mess and when you get out of the shower, we are going to talk about what happen and what we can do to fix it. Now go before I drag your ass by your hair and take you a shower myself!"

She looked at me with her arms crossed and rolled her eyes, she didn't say anything though. She walked to her bathroom and slammed the door behind her.

"Now that I clean this mess, tell me    what's wrong." I say sitting down on her neat bed that I just made.

She just came out the bathroom with a towel around her body and a towel to her hair, she sat next to me.

"I don't really want to talk about it."

"Yes you do."

"I do, I know I do."

"So tell me."

"Well, like I texted you. They took Kevin somewhere and I don't know where he is, Jacob hasn't been around all week to his little vacation-"

"Where did he go?"

"I have no idea, I just know he could've stop them. They don't listen to me, they are just sexist animals and they don't want me to be happy."

"You haven't talked to Jacob."

"He's not answering his phone."

"I was with him all last night."

"Shove that in my face, why don't you?"

"I'm sorry, but he didn't say anything about this to me."

"His most likely not going to tell you anything that goes on with the pack."

"Why do you say that?"

"He is extremely protective of you, he just wants to protect you from some things."

"What things?! I'm not a child."

"When did things become about you, I thought we were talking about my problems and my relationship."

"Damn I'm sorry continue."

"Anyways I need you to call him for me and your phone. He wouldn't ignore your phone call."

"Why would you think that?"

"He's obsessed with you, it's disgusting."

I rolled my eyes, "He's not obsessed with me."

"Whatever, But he isn't going to ignore you phone call."

"I don't want to talk to him right now."

"Why?"

"Nothing, I guess it was just weird when I left this morning."

"Weird how?"

"It isn't about me right now— it's about you."

"Well then, give me your phone then." She said, I handed it over to her.

"I'm gonna go, make a sandwich or something." I said getting up, I didn't want to hear them having a conversation.
