Christmas holidays, I was one of the first ones to get on the train - like if that would make the trip go faster - and waited impatiently for the train to leave.

Charlotte tried to keep my busy with things, like reading or chatting with her, but, for the first time, I wanted to be with my thoughts, preparing myself for what awaits me when I get home...

As soon as the train arrived, I saw my father, alone, my mother was not besides him, which can mean only one thing.

I ranned towards him and hugged him tight, he looked tired, and hopeless, I've never seen him like this before, even the smile he managed to give me was forced.

{☆~☆}

When we arrived home, I ranned towards my mother's room as fast as I could go, stumbling in some things song the way, but eventually got there.

I didn't even knocked on the door, I just burst in the room, and saw my mother, layed in her bed.

It was painful to watch her like that, she was almost as pale as snow, she was so thin that I could almost see the bones of her face, and she got eyebags like I've never saw in my life, she looked so tired, she looked like she hasn't getting sleep in centuries.

With tears already staining my eyes, I walked over her bed, she managed a smile, and I looked into her green eyes, instead of love and joy, they only transmitted pain and suffer, my heart clenched at the view of that.

She, slowly, lift a hand for me to hold it, and so I did, even her own skin was so frail, that I was afraid to touch it, but I gently grabbed her hand, as more tears filled my eyes, and it wasn't even necessary to switch words between us to do that, just the very look of her made me almost sobb, I just didn't because I knew my mother would sobb with me, and I didn't want that to happen.

"Hello, sweetheart." Even her voice was so frail, it didn't even looked like my mother's voice, it was so unrecognizable.

"Mom." I cried out her name, so affected by her appearance.

"Tell me, how...is your...life my dear." She said between coughs, while she managed to smile.

Even in the darkest times she can smile.

"Are you friends with...Charlotte and Matthew again?" She asked still coughing between words.

I knew what she was trying to do, she was trying to have a normal conversation with me, despite all that was happening with her, and I would give her that, is that's what she wanted.

"No mom, I haven't." I said crying.

"Oh, sorry...to hear that..." She said. "And how about...Draco?" She asked softly.

"Well, we-" My father stepping inside cut me off.

"Lara, my dear, I need to speak with your mother, if you don't mind." My father said softly, and I nodded at him.

I looked at my mother again, as if it was the last time I would do so, and stepped outside her room.

The door behind me closed, and like if I losted control of my own bodie, I stepped close to the door so like that my ear would be against the door, and I would be able to hear the whole conversation.

"Elisabeth..." I heard my father footsteps pacing along the room, slowly. "You need to let the healers see you." My father said in a desperate tone.

"It's useless by now...I never liked healers myself...and you...know damn why." My mother said firmly but between coughs. "My mother would have...lived for more...years, if it wasn't because of them."

"Times had changed, Elisabeth, you need a healer quickly-" My mother cut him off.

"I told you before...and I tell you now...I don't want any more...healers inside...this house." My mother said firmly.

"What do you think your daughter would think of this?" My father asked, I heard his footsteps stop near the door.

"She will never know...and...I..." She couldn't finish her sentence and started coughing abruptly.

"I will go get your medication, try to rest honey." My father said, and I heard his footsteps getting close to the door each time, so I escaped quietly so he wouldn't see me, and ranned to my bedroom.

I stayed there, hugged to my pillow and crying there, I waited for my father to knock, but, I quickly understood that he was either still trying to convince my mom to call the healers, or probably too tired or sad to speak with me, besides, he knew if he hugged me or comforted me, I would burst out in tears, even more than I am now...

{☆~☆}

I woke up in the exact same position I was while crying last night, hugged to my pillow, with dry tears on my cheeks.

I went to my bathroom, and washed my face, and flashes from my mother's appeared in my mind.

It was such an unexplainable pain to see my mother like that, layed in a bed, in her worst state and part of her life, and instead of supporting her, I was here, hugged to my pillow, crying like a child.

I heard a soft knock on the door, and I opened it, finding my father, with a few letters in his left hand, and just one in his right hand.

"Good morning, I have a letter for you." My father said softly, giving me a thin smile

"Morning." I said softly, I knew he was trying to avoid talking about my mother, and I understood why, I took the letter he was holding to my hand, and saw that only my name was on it, no name from who sent it. "Who is it from?" I asked softly.

"I don't know, it didn't said." He said.

"Okay. Thank father." I said softly. "Oh wait, how's mom?" I asked before he could go away.

"She's well, I will see her now." He said and gave me a thin smile.

Well, was a thing that my mother was not.

I closed the door, and examined the letter that rested on my hand, were only my name and address remained written on it.

I sat in my bed, and opened the letter without thinking twice, and unfolded the parchment, reading it.

Blackwell

I know that only a day has passed, but, that's the exact reason why I'm already writing to you, I realized the first day would probably be the hardest to you, because of your mother.

And besides, my mother was going to sent to your parents the invite for her party, so, it would be easier to sent it, I don't think she knows your mother is ill, but this is not a thing for me to tell, if your mother didn't told her, then I shall not be the one to do so.

And don't forget what I once told you, you need to be strong, like your mother, you always told me she is strong, and I want you to be like that.

D.M.

P.S. For your good sake, you better reply to this letter, or either way I won't stop bothering you with letters until my fingers hurt, so don't be rude, and reply to this as soon as you can, and with that I mean that I give you two days to reply if you're alright, before I call my army of letters to your house.

For the first since I stepped in this house yesterday, I smiled, and hugged the letter tightly against my chest.

Draco has remembered me, we saw each other less than two days ago, and he has already write to me, and what he had wrote made me think clearly.

I needed to be strong, like he said, strong like her, I wouldn't be hiding here, not anymore, she is ill, and she even can get a smile, a true and pure smile in her lips, and so can I.

I stood up, and walked towards my mother's bedroom, and opened the door.

"We will not go, Elisabeth-" My father cut himself off, and both my parents turned their gazes at me, as I stood by the door.

"Why did you stop talking?" I asked, but kept talking, even after seeing him opening his mouth to speak. "Whatever you have to say, you can say it to me, I'm part of this family too." I said firmly.

"Honey, we don't want to-" I cut my mom, but with in a softer tone.

"Mom...I'm not a child anymore." I said softly, locking my gaze with her, and she gave me a thin smile, and nodded in agreement. "So..." I walked forward, standing next to my father. "...What were you guys talking about before my arrival, we will not go where?" I asked.

"Narcissa Malfoy, sent us an invitation to the usual Christmas party, the Malfoys do every year, and your mother want us to go, leaving her here, alone...do you agree with this?" My father said calmly but in a firm tone.

"Abel, I already told you, I want my daughter to have fun, to clear her head a bit, and you as well." My mother said firmly before I could even have the opportunity to talk.

"Elisabeth, if anything happens, there will be no one in this house watching you, it's out of question." My father said calmly, but my gaze was fixed on my mother, while my mind looked for a solution for this problem...

"Abel, please, I'll be fine." My mother said.

"How can you be so sure, even yesterday when I went to pick up our daughter I was worried, only for a hour, can you imagine a whole-" I cut my father's off.

"We will go." I said firmly, both of their gazes fixed now on me, even my mom looked surprised for my reply.

"What? No, Lara, what are you saying, have you lost your mind? It's too dangerous." My father said firmly.

"See, your daughter agrees as well-" I cut my mother off.

"Under one condition." I said firmly, my eyes still on her, watching her reaction, and waited for her to nod so I could go on. "You will let healers come here, and take care of you while dad and I are out."

Both of them looked at me shocked, my dad soon realized that I must have listened last night conversation to have knowledge of my mother not wanting the healers here.

"I'm sorry sweetheart but-" Once again, I cut her off.

"You said you wanted me to have fun, and I assure you I wouldn't be having fun in a party, knowing my mom is sick at home without no one to watch her." I said firmly, she couldn't refuse this, not that I had any intentions to go to a party now, but if that makes her be watched by healers, then, that's what I will do.

If I learned something with my mom, besides riddles, is how to play on your side of the table, let the other player make his moves, which means mistakes, letting them think their winning and use their own failures on your own, gaining the crown for yourself.

She took her time to speak, examinating her choices probably, spreading a odd silence in the room, my dad said nothing either, he like me, was carefully watching my mother, which means, he had founded my idea beneficial as well.

"Alright, your dad may call the healers, and you may go to the party." My mother said and I gave her a smile.

My father was the first to step out of the room, and gave me a smile as he did so, and then I looked at my mother one last time, and walked towards the door.

"I teached you good." I heard her say behind my back, and I nodded, without even looking at her.
