Kadence P.O.V

Donavon always threw the best parties. Surprisingly he's never been caught busted, but regardless if he did his dad would bail him out and charges would be dropped. Brooklyn seemed nervous, I didn't want her to feel that way so my natural response was holding her hand.

When I put my hand near hers I hesitated at first, thinking if it would be awkward, but I still went with it. She gave a sigh and a smile back, a light one. I melted at the touch of her small hands. I walked forwards near a table in the kitchen and set my bag down.

"Kadence!" Ellie screamed.

"Hey! Wait for a second, are you drunk already?" I said with a smirk

"No K! I'm only on my second shot."

I pulled out my bottle of vodka and she had a huge grin on her face. She tried snatching it from me but quickly pulled it back. I looked over at Ellie with an amused face, but she wasn't smiling, instead, she gave me a forced smile. Jeez, does she need it that bad?

I looked over to Brooklyn and she was silent and her eyes seemed droopy. I like how she doesn't wear make-up as much, she's beautiful naturally. I hope this wasn't a mistake. I looked back over to Ellie and she's staring at both Brooklyn and me.

"May we help you E?"

"No. I'm gonna go," she said trailing off.

She went to go hang out with the group. I saw Donavon hanging outside on the lifeguard stand watching over everyone and bathing in the sun. The pool was huge, it had a volleyball net in the middle, a waterslide from the second floor, and a lazy river flowing through the house.

A bunch of huts was set up around the pool and a huge fire pit behind Donavon's lifeguard chair. The speakers near the pool were large, waterproof, and amazingly strong bass. I felt Brooklyn's hand tighten and I smiled trying to give off an everything is going to be the okay vibe.

"Ready to swim?!" I asked excitedly

"Uh- I'm just going to grab some food," she said shyly.

"Are you sure?"

She simply nodded. I slipped off my top and made my way near the pool. I jumped in not caring how cold it would be, causing me to splash the girls half of them screamed in shock and the others laughed. I didn't see Ellie or Jamie in sight, weird.

Ellie is probably drunk off her ass by now, I wouldn't be surprised if my bottle of vodka goes missing and plus I can always buy more. I got my suppliers. I climbed up to the side of the pool near the lifeguard stand. Donavon looks right at me while I pull myself up and standing up straight.

"Hey, do you know where Ellie and Jamie are?"

"Nope." he said popping the 'p'

"But I do need to talk to you."

He hopped off the stand, grabbed my hand and pulled me over inside this private hut, only reserved for him and the boys. When we entered Luke and Kyle were inside but he motioned them to leave and they followed his command.

"What's up?" I asked taking a sip from a margarita from the side table.

"So I was wondering if you wanted to hang out upstairs and you know... get a little..." he motioned to me as if he already knew the answer.

"Fuck?!" I choked on my drink.

He smirked and had a wide grin on his face.

"Donavon! No! God no! that's gross, we're just friends!"

"We can be friends with benefits!"

"Why don't you go down on Ellie! She'd probably do it."

"Um because she already said no," he said forcefully.

What since when did Ellie say no to hooking up randomly?

"Apparently she wants to take relationships seriously now." He laughed as if that was something to joke about.

I couldn't handle being near Donavon right now, I grabbed my margarita and walked out the hut. Where is Ellie? I walked inside to go get my phone in my bag and texted the group.

All I see are the girls in the pool, the boys eating near the fire pit, and the rest being soaring drunk. No one is going to answer their phone, at this time. I was getting impatient, scrolling through my contacts I called Ellie. Donavon appeared in front of me as if I would change my mind about our chat.

"Oh come on!" he whined.

"No!"

I walked out of the glass doors, with a Donavon trying to talk me into it. I don't like him! Standing back outside with Ellie still not picking up and no sign of Brooklyn, I got worried. Everything was racing through my mind.

Ellie, Jamie, Donavon, and Brooklyn...

What is happening? I felt a rough hand grab on my arm making me turn around to see Donavon's face, and before I could say something a loud yelp escaped near the pool. I turned around to see Ellie standing near the edge of the deep end, with Jamie tugging on her arm. I look down to see a person at the bottom of the pool.

"Donavon..." I said tapping his shoulder vigorously trying to make him stop begging.

"Someone's drowning!" I yelled to him.

He quickly looked over and dived into the water like the athlete he is. The deep end is eight feet deep.... hurry up Donavon. Everyone was whispering and murmuring. I looked over at Ellie again and see her crying.

What the fuck happened?! I walked down the steps from the glass door where Donavon and I were standing, and see him coming back up with a girl in a black sweatshirt.

Oh my god...

I could barely process the situation but quickly got to the edge where Luke and Kyle were now standing to help get her up.

Fuck

Fuck

Fuck

I kept thinking to myself. It's Brooklyn.

Brooklyn's P.O.V

Kadence walked away outside, and I see her jump in the water and get out, holy shit. How does someone look that good getting out?! I would probably end up looking like a struggling fish getting up. Okay! Snap out of it! I walked over towards the food and some orange slices caught my attention.

I grabbed a couple and sat in a chair near the lazy river. It goes through his house... that's crazy! I wonder what his Father does. Thinking back just now, Kadence had a vodka in her bag and not a small one... I wish she didn't drink, but I don't think she's that drunk right now, she seems smart about her choices on how much she can take.

Her bathing suit fit slimly on her body, it fit around her toned waist, and god her body was like a glazed tan when she came out of the water. A sharp pain shot up my side and I quickly grasped my side lightly. I go to the bathroom to see if it got worse, forgetting about my orange slices.

I lifted my sweatshirt up to see my side in the mirror and it looked the same. Just the color is set in more, it's not blue which is good, just a dark shade of purple with bright red around the edges.

A loud banging came from my door, that noise doesn't get old...

"Open up this door bitch!" I hear a girl scream.

That voice sounds like Ellie's. I opened up the door and I see her laying her weight on the side of the doorway. Drunk, she's drunk. She tried standing straight but was wobbly.

"You have some nerve!" she yelled right in my face.

"I-I'm sorry, what?" saying nervously.

"Just walking in my life and taking everything from me!"

"I-I don't..." I trailed off

I walked out the doors pushing past her.

"Don't walk away from me!" She yelled through the house.

I looked for Kadence trying to make her help Ellie. I didn't see her. Ellie came out behind me yanking my shoulder back. I winced in pain for the movement of the turn. I saw Jamie stand up from behind Ellie having a look of worry.

"E, what's going on?" Jamie asked concerned.

"This bitch decides to take what's mine!" Ellie said yelling, but still looking at me dead straight in the eyes.

"B-but I didn't take anything! I promise." trying to defend myself.

"Okay E, you need to take it down a notch," Jamie said cautiously.

"No! she took my best friend away!" Ellie said while pushing my shoulder causing me to stumble back.

"She was holding her hand!"

I took another step back.

"She took Kadence!"

I took another step back, feeling myself trip and falling into the water.
It all felt so slow. I cant swim, my side hurts.

...

I choked on the water, but not catching any air.

...

It's filling me up fast.

...

I kept sinking, right, this is the deep end.

...

Bubbles were all around me from the fall, some little ones were kissing my legs.

...

I hear mumbling above the surface, I looked up and the surface of the water was like a bunch of glass mirrors reflecting back at me. It glimmered. The sun shined on it making rays of light touching my skin, it was the only thing that felt warm than cold. The little splotches of sun rays on my face kind of made me feel at peace. This made me feel better.

A/N: intense scene! I love it, yet it's kind of tragic. Who will save Brooklyn? Comment on how you feel about this. Also my lovely readers... we are nowhere near the end of this book.
