Kadence's P.O.V

Jacob finally came through with Caroline to work at the hospital with my parents just for a day or two. Christmas was just around the corner and I had the perfect date idea for Brooklyn but not just that her gift as well. Brooklyn's Dad hasn't been home still and I rather not have her spend it alone.

I woke up feeling her soft breathing laying upon my chest. My dad still hasn't talked to me which was getting quite annoying and the Christmas spirit really wasn't within our house. Jacob and I are planning to buy a tree soon but right now he's out at the hospital.

He said he would find the file whenever the coast was clear then he'll take photos or call us over. The original plan was for both Brooklyn and I come to work at the hospital as well but that would have to mean talking to my Dad. Not a good idea.

I felt a soft shuffle between my arms to see Brooklyn burying her head in the crook of my neck. Her eyelashes were long, her lips were parted from each other, and her hair fell swiftly upon her face. I kept gazing at her details.

My phone buzzed slightly on the desk, I looked over the see my phone on the counter, should I reach for it? I mean is it important? Also how dare they interrupt my gazing time. I mean it's not like I always do this to Brooklyn but she's adorable when she sleeps.

The buzz went off again, maybe it was important. I looked back down at Brooklyn and hesitated.

Another vibration shook the desk.

"Jesus, I"m coming..." I mumbled.

I reached over gently with Brooklyn in my arms trying not to wake her. She let out a small groan. Shit. I reached over again and finally grasped it.

"What are... You doing..." She groaned with annoyance in her voice.

I gave a light laugh at her adorable grumble, she seemed to be a bit annoyed.

"I'm just uh grabbing my phone... Sorry."

She let out a small groan again. I settled myself back in bed and Brooklyn was still laying on my chest with her eyes closed. I held the phone just above her holding it steadily so it wouldn't drop on her face. I slid my thumb across the screen and unlocked it.

The group chat was lit up, we all haven't had a conversation in a while especially since after the party.

"Hello, friends! Tis' that time of year again! Yes, I'm talking about Christmas! I thought we should all do a little get together at my place on Saturday at 6:00 pm."

Ellie's invitation was quite welcoming and we do this every year. Usually me, Ellie, Jamie, Donavon, Luke, and Kyle. A couple chimes of my phone started to go off with everyone responding back to her.

"Oh and yes Kadence... You can bring Brooklyn."

I smiled on how she included her, I mean Christmas is next week Wednesday and I want Brooklyn to be happy. I don't know what she went through the back with her dad gone and drunk on Christmas but I wanted it to be different this year for her.

A low groan escaped from Brooklyn's lips, she's about to wake up. I figured out she wasn't a morning person, it was around ten in the morning and she usually wakes up around this time.

"Good morning beautiful," I whispered.

"Mmm..." She groaned again.

I stroked the top of her head and pushed a strand of her hair behind her ear.

"Wake up," I said softly against her ear.

Her eyes slowly opened and I couldn't help but smile at how droopy she looked. Her face was flushed with red.

"H-Hi..." She stuttered looking nervous.

"Hi..." I silently greeted back.

I couldn't help but stare at how innocent she looked right now, we've known each other for a while and she still seemed nervous around me, why? I saw a slight smile starting to grow on the edge of her lips and I can feel my cheeks become heated. I leaned in and kissed the top of her head.

"Romantic much?" She cooed.

"Just a little." I smiled.

She began to crawl up close to my chest and she let out a sigh.

"What?" I asked.

Her eyebrows arched and I soon felt her hands slip up under my shirt and under my arms. I started to tense up knowing what she was about to do next.

"No. Don't do it," I said wide-eyed.

"Oh, I will." She grinned while looking at me.

"I have never once tickled you!"

"Yeah but this can be a payback from our fiasco making pancakes together in the kitchen that one morning. You know?"

I grinned at the memory and how silly she was acting at the time, but then again she is doing it now too. Soon she began to start tickling me and I couldn't help but let out loud laughs while she was quietly laughing to herself.

"S-Stop!" I begged.

"Never!" She laughed.

I squirmed out of her grip and rolled off my bed becoming wide awake. I ran out my bedroom door and down the stairs but soon heard her padded footsteps behind me.

"Kadence! Don't run!" She teased.

"Some morning Brooklyn! I thought you weren't a morning person!" I yelled.

"I'm not!" She giggled.

I ran past the hall to the living room and noticed the tv was on, I came to a hauling stop near the couch to see what the channel was. I felt both of her hands wrap around my waist and she was still giggling.

"Good morning to you guys too." A low voice came from the kitchen.

We both turned our heads and saw Jacob grabbing a coffee from the brewery next to the stove.

"Oh, uh, good-morning to you too. Shouldn't you be at work?" I asked.

"Eh, yeah. In about thirty minutes." He responded.

"Where's Caroline?"

"Already there getting a head-start."

I turned to see Brooklyn blushing from embarrassment. We stood quietly with awkwardness while Jacob poured his coffee into his mug. Brooklyn's hands were still wrapped around my waist.

"Well... It's already awkward enough so I'll leave you guys to it."

He rolled his eyes and walked away with his lips curved into a fake smile. We watched him waddle away with no sudden moves then I realized his pajama pants had penguins on them. I moved away from Brooklyn's hands and turned my body towards him.

"Hey, Jacob are those... Penguins?" I laughed.

He turned around and had a small smile on his face with a tint of blush.

"Yes, yes they are."

Then he started to make his way down the hall again. Both of us laughed and laid on the couch, I heard a low grumble from both of our stomachs. Brooklyn started to giggle to the sound of it and I just smiled at how she smiled over it.

"Waffles or pancakes?" I asked.

She had a slight grin upon her mouth.

"Waffles. I don't want to get into another flour fight with pancakes."

She said laughingly and I couldn't help but smile. I nodded and grabbed the waffle maker out of the cabinet next to the fridge, the mix was in the bag so all I had to do is add water and stir. Brooklyn turned not eh television and she started to watch some show and as for I did the work.

"What are you watching?" I asked curiously while stirring the mix.

"Uh..." She looked back to me but her eyes were still glued to the screen.

"It's not a show its a movie." She clarified.

"Sorry. Well, what is it?" I stifled a laugh.

"The Theory of Everything."

She finally turned her body over after peeling her eyes off the screen. I was glad she was happy especially near this time. When she asked me what I was doing for Christmas break she seemed as if she wanted me to stay but maybe I'm overthinking it. Usually, my family and I would go on vacation but Jacob and I knew that our parents are extremely busy.

I mean Jacob and I could go by ourselves but I would rather be here with Brooklyn. I'm not sure how she used to celebrate Christmas with her dad or mom but I can see that she didn't want to be alone.

I slid the waffles onto two plates and Brooklyn walked over near the island table and held my hand. Slowly I can tell she's becoming more comfortable around me. We stood eating the fluffy puzzled shape food and made satisfying faces of the delicious taste. I went to the fridge and grabbed the orange juice.

"So..." I said while turning back around to her.

I grabbed a cup from underneath the table and set it on the counter.

"Yes?" She said curiously.

"I was wondering if you wanted to go ice-skating?" I asked while pouring the juice.

I arched an eyebrow and waited for the response. I looked up again and her eyes seemed shocked. She stopped eating and looked down.

"What? What's wrong?" I asked.

"I-It's just that... I haven't gone in a while, well since my mom passed..."

Her cheeks turned pink, I don't know what her dad has been doing for the last couple years but I'm determined to make Brooklyn happy this Christmas. I went up to her, she was leaning against the counter and I couldn't help but have the same continuous smile. She looked at me still feeling shocked.

I let out a small laugh and gently put my hand on her cheeks, a small smile grew. I tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and she nuzzled into my palm. I kissed her forehead and I felt her small arms wrap around my waist that pulled me into a hug.

"Well, lets go."

We untangled the hug, I draped my arms over her neck and slowly made my way down underneath her arms.

"Do not. Do it-"

Before she could finish her sentence I began to tickle her. The adorable laughter started to come out and her smile was child-like. I stopped and started to run up the stairs and back to my room to go change, she followed closely behind.

~~~~~~
The place was gorgeous they really outdone themselves this year. The rink was outside and quite big, a large Christmas tree was placed on the front side of the rink. I'm pretty sure it was larger than most of the houses that were in the area, it was decorated in large festive ornaments of red and yellow.
Today not much people were there which was strange but then again we got here a bit early. Brooklyn held my hand and we were both embracing ourselves from the cold. No sudden movements were made between us, I turned to see her gazing at the tree and I swear she was a child.
Her hair was down and fell perfectly amongst her shoulders, she wore black leggings and a cute thick sweater. To top it off she wore a beanie and as for I wore skinny jeans and a hoodie.
"Are you okay?" I asked subtly.
"Y-Yeah... That Christmas tree is huge."
"I know, ready to skate?" She looked over and smiled.
"I'll take that as a yes." I smiled back.
We walked over to the front and grabbed a pair of skates from the tall skinny cashier. We politely thanked him. Brooklyn and I sat down on a bench near the ice and I struggled to put the skates on.
"Do you need help?" She asked laughingly.
"N-No, I got it," I said struggling.
"Here, let me."
She crouched down and loosened the laces a bit more, I was then able to put my whole foot in. My leg was now lifted on her thigh and she began to tighten the laces back tighter.
"Thanks..." I blushed.
"Of course." She smiled.
I went out on the ice first which was nice because they just smoothed over the ice again to get rid of the bumps and scattered lines. I gently put my right skate on the glazed white ice and skid across smoothly until I was in the middle. I turned around and Brooklyn was still at the entrance of the rink.
I motioned to her to come towards me and she gave me nervous laugh. Does she need help? Before I could skate back to her she stepped on the ice and slowly made her way towards me. She almost looked like a deer on ice, I smiled a laugh and met her halfway.
"You okay?" I asked.
"Y-Yeah, just... Haven't done this in a while."
"I can tell, ready to go around the rink a couple times?"
"S-Sure." She stuttered.
She held onto my arm as I skated slowly for her to catch up. Ice skating to me came easy because it felt like dancing just cold and slippery. Little kids started to zoom past us, I would say they were around eight or nine years old and it seemed like they were having a race.
Brooklyn was still struggling but it seemed like she was getting the hang of it, she let go of my arms and slowly glided next to me. A slow pace though. After a while we finally made one lap, she soon started to speed up and it was a steady pace.
"Kadence..." She mumbled.
"Yes?" I looked over.
"Do you think we will find out anything about my mom?" She said while looking down.
No emotions were shown upon her face, I held her hand and pressed my lips on the cold small fingers.
"I'm not sure..."
"I'm sorry that I'm bringing it up now. I just... I-"
"Brooklyn, we don't have to look through her file if you don't want to. We will support you in any way and this is your choice."
I said while cutting her off. I didn't want her to feel pressured or to have a sudden burden on her. Hopefully saying this I was reassuring her. We were still quietly skating and the kids kept flying pass us.
I felt her tug my hand and stopped us from moving on the slippery glass. Her face seemed quiet but happy, I couldn't tell if she was upset or calm.
"Thank you..." She whispered.
She rubbed her thumb back and forth on my hand.
"For what?" I said perking my lips to the side.
"For understanding and being here this Christmas." She said while giving an angelic smile.
We stood on the top side of the rink where the Christmas Tree was held and gazed at it.
"I don't usually celebrate Christmas anymore especially with my mom not being around so... Having you here is different."
She pursed her lips and took a large inhale but yet soon to release with an exhale.
"It's nice not having to spend Christmas this year alone."
I saw tears form at the edge of her eyes and the glassy look upon them. Her cheeks were tinted in pink and so was her nose, it kind of reminded me of a snowman. I glanced at her fragile face and holding this gaze between our eyes felt calming as if the grey clouds were actually pleasing.
"I love you Kadence."
Her cold hands touched my face but I embraced it instead of flinching away. My heart started to flutter, everything was settling between us even with the little kids skating around the rink. Capturing her brown glassy eyes I slowly wrapped my hand around her waist gently and leaned in towards her lips.
Centimeters apart, I felt her soft breath upon my lips. I bit my bottom lip.
"I love you too Brooklyn."
Finally, she leaned in forward and we closed the gap with a lasting kiss, her lips tasted sweet and cherishing. Not a care was given on the ice with people staring and giving glances. We finally tore from the kiss and gasped deeply, not a tear was shed from her bright eyes.
A smile appeared under her nose causing me to smile as well, she stroked the side of my cheek with her small gentle thumb.
A white flake fell on her cheek and she sniffled her nose and shuffled. Snow? We looked around and the small decorated snow started to fall around the area. The little kids shrieked in excitement and we both let out laughs, our hot breath hit the air causing slight smoke to come out of our mouths.
I held my palm on her face and stroked the snowflake off yet more were coming as if an avalanche was falling from a mountain.
Our foreheads touched each other and we smiled for our little significant moment.
A/N: I also realized this chapter didn't seem long enough but I found this a good place to come to an end with it. I hope everyone is enjoying themselves with the Christmas spirit and the enjoyment of reading.
