"Nobody else can take me higher"

I hate having to pick an outfit. I honestly feel more comfortable in pajamas. Why did I agree to this? I just wanna stay in and read or have my own movie marathon.

I finally decide on jeans and a red v-neck. My phone chirps with a text, I check it and I see my ride is here.

"Bye mom, I'll be back later." I let her know as I pass by.

"Ok, have fun honey."

"C'mon Audrey! The mall is waiting on us." Emma yells from her car as I make it outside to my front yard.

"I'm coming!" I yell back. On my way to the passenger seat side I notice Kay is near the car talking to Emma.

"Kay, I thought you were playing at Bella's house. What are you doing?" I ask

"Ugh nothing, just saying hi to Em... um bye." she looks away like she did something bad and runs next door to Bella's. Huh. That was strange.

I sit in the car and know exactly what Kay was tellling Emma when she turns in her seat and looks me in the eye and says "Tell me everything about this Nate guy...and why haven't you told me about him."

As we browse around Baybrook mall, I tell Emma all about Nate.

"Damn, you know I'm always on your side, but I wish you had lost the bet."

I just finished telling Em about my crazy yet fun (I must admit) day yesturday.

After I had won the game, Nate had tried to give me the hundred dollars which I declined obviously. I felt bad for putting the bet that high. He then procceded to try to get me to agree to a date. I told him that he lost so that was not fair or part of the deal. When I told Em this she said she wanted to slap me and asked why I turned him down. I just shrugged and said I didn't know him that well and I don't even know where he lives or where he's from.

But truthfully, I was scared. Of what, I don't really know. Maybe because I have never dated anyone before or because he looked like he could break girl's hearts. With his piercing green eyes and his way of looking at you that makes you feel special, it makes a dangerous combination.

After that, he had a phone call and said he had to go but that he had fun. I relunctantly agreed to exchange numbers and before he left the arcade he said he would "see me around".

"He's probably forgotten about me." I tell her as we enter the lego store. I want to buy Kay some legos since she has slowly been losing them around the house. I found one in my purse last week. How did it get there? I have no clue. Plus she told me to get her some "light blue ones" so she can build a Elsa's castle like in frozen. She loves building things with her hands and even said that when she grows up she wants to be an architect. At ten years old she already knows what she wants to be.

"Im sure he will call."

"Whatever, I don't care." I reply. Though I didn't want to admit, I do kind of care. Which I shouldn't.

As I'm looking at a star wars movie scene made out of legos in a glass display, I hear Emma say "Well, thats interesting..."

While still looking at the scene and wondering how someone could make that I start "I know right, I wonder how long it took to make this."

"What? I'm not talking about legos, I mean there's a cute guy staring at you through the store window."

I give her a weird look, turn to look where she said and thats when I see Nate entering the store walking straight towards me.

"Ok act normal" I tell myself.

So naturally the box of legos I was holding slips from my hands and falls to the ground with a loud thud. Luckily the parts inside don't go flying everywhere, but everyone in the store turns to stare at me.

Before I bend down to pick it up, Nate beats me to it and hands it over.

Before I can say thanks, Emma smiles at me then at Nate and introduces herself.

"Hi, I'm Emma, and this is Audrey."

"Nice to meet you Emma, and I already know Audrey. Long time no see."

Emma looks confused and I don't want her freaking out when she finds out who it is.

"Since yesturday. Its not that long ago." I add.

I see Em figuring things out in her head. Right as Nate is about to introduce himself, she jumps in "Oh, you're Nate! Nice to meet you."

"Well, I see you have been talking about me."

"Kay told her about you." I try to sound cool and indifferent like I didn't just tell Emma all about what happened yesturday.

He looks at me and just says "Sure..."

Emma looks back and forth between me and him then announces "I'm going to forever 21 to buy something, uh for a friend's birthday, I'll meet you in like an hour okay Audrey? Bye Nate." She turns and leaves the store. I know she just made that up so we could be alone. I may have only known her for 3 months but I one thing I know for sure is that she's a bad liar.

Nate chuckles then asks me what I'm doing. I tell him about Kay's lego plan.

We somehow end up talking about how painful legos are when you step on them.

I'm about to pay the cashier at the register when Nate hands over a hundred dollar to pay for it.

"What are you doing?" The cashier then raises his eyebrow at us but continues to get the change.

"Well, I owe you a hundred dollars. I knew you wouldn't take it so I saw the chance to pay you and took it." He says like its no big deal.

"The change is hers." he adds when the cashier turns to try and give him the change. "Wanna grab something quick to eat?" He asks me quickly as we leave the store.

"Okay, but I'm paying with the change I just got back." I tell him.

"Chinese?"

"No."

"Italian."

"Not feeling it."

"Then what do you want to eat?"

"Lets get Wendy's" I finally decide.

When we check out I see Nate grabbing his wallet but I slap his hand away from handing over his card and pay with my leftover money.

"You know you didnt have to give me the 100 dollars. What if you need it for something? I was just joking when we were-" I start to ramble but Nate stops me

"I don't need the money plus you won fair and square. I definitely would have expected you to have held your end of the bargain had you lost." The way he's looking at me for some reason is making me blush. Okay, changing the subject.

I take a sip of my soda then tell him "Alright, I wont bring it up anymore. So what are you doing here at the mall?"

"Stalking you obviously."

I think he's joking. I raise my eyebrow at him.

He just laughs "I'm kidding. It was a happy coincidence. I'm here because I have to buy my sister a gift. But I dont know what to get her."

"How old is she?"

"Lea is 18 going on 19. She loves shopping. I haven't seen her in awhile since she's back at home in California."

He's from California? Interesting.

"I thought you were from here." I tell him.

"No, I'm here for some... business stuff. I work for my dad's company and they're thinking about moving some things here. So I might end up staying."

He's being kind of vague and just as I'm about to ask him some questions, Emma shows up.

"Hey, I'm back. Are you ready to go or do you need more time...?" She looks at Nate first for his answer instead of me.

"I'm ready to go." I tell Em.

I throw away my food and tell Nate goodbye.

"Bye friend. I'll text you later for advice on my sisters gift." he says as he hugs me. At first I'm surprised, but I hug him back.

I joke and say "I never agreed that we are friends."

"Too bad. We are and now your stuck with me." With that he then tells Emma bye and leaves.

"Awww..." Emma starts

I interrupt her "Shhh. Did you get your "present" for you friend" I then cough "liar."

She smiles and says "It was for your own good. Plus it looked like you had a good time. And even though I didn't have a friend's birthday to shop for, I did shop for myself." She holds up 3 shopping bags.

I roll my eyes and we start walking to the exit of the mall when she adds "I like Nate, he has my seal of approval. You are now free to date him."

"I'm not going to date him. Like he said... we are friends. That's all." I defend myself.

She smirks and says "We'll see about that."
