There had only been two special auras I'd ever seen in my life. The first one belonged to a beautiful girl encountered in my younger years. Her aura was shaped like a pair of angel's wings and shone brightly along with her glorious radiance. I mean, seriously- the girl had supernatural beauty. But her eyes shone with something colder. The dark feathers scattered throughout her wings hinted at a darker side. The problem was, she was too good at acting. Maybe she had even fooled herself into believing the mask of perfection she wore was real. Still, something was off, and upon reencounting her, my vibe alarm went off.

The second incredible aura was discovered in junior high. It was Y/n's, back when she was still Kayo Hinashi- the quiet girl who sat at the back of the classroom. To others it would seem like she didn't want to be noticed. Her aura told a different story; it was full of life and a magic sort of energy. It seemed to restrain itself from it full potential. I was drawn to her secrets, and so I inevitably friended her.

Kids were bombarding me with questions. I mean, I liked helping people, but was swarming me really necessary? Ugh.

"Who has the strangest aura here?" someone asked. I smirked, ready for the challenge. There were a few wonky auras here and there, but none really stood out. Still, there seemed to be a clouded area in the corner of my vision.

"What is bugging?" I mumbled, reaching up to rub my eye. "Ack! My contacts-"

Upon turning, I noticed her in the back of the classroom. As Y/n's e/c irises came in contact with mine, she quickly turned to gaze out the window. Her aura's color morphed into a magenta-violet, signifying a change in emotion: nervousness or panic. My eyes widened as I took in the sight of her magnificent aura. It had possibly been the biggest, most complex I'd seen. But other than that, I couldn't quite tell anything more irregular about her. Her spirit animal seemed to be a f/a. Nothing too strange... but she didn't have a guardian spirit.

Guardian spirits were important because humans were incapable of protecting themselves from otherworldly beings such as paranormal or other dimensional species. For instance, dreams are connections to the future or a glimpse of other dimensions. When the conscious becomes aware of these things, the guardian angel may kick them out of the dream in order to protect them. They also protect you from getting possessed.

Anyway, the basics are regular humans require a guardian angel. Unless she was extremely powerful, she would have one. Her face was clear of the mark of death so a tragically soon fate was out-ruled as well. I knew I had to become her friend. If there was any gal too nosy for her own good, it was me. Of course a psychic had to know the unknown; I mean the thought of being in the dark was just too ridiculous. And so, I approached her.

~

"Kaiya-chan, when are you going to explain your crazy aura?" I blurted one day, braiding her long hair under a swaying cherry blossom tree that occasionally sprinkled pink petals over us.

"I told you, Aiura, there's nothing special about me."

"That's a lie, and we both know it. You can trust me, y'know."

"What do you expect me to say? That I'm some goddess from another dimension?"

"No, just the truth." I sighed dramatically. "You're just too mean to me, Kaiya-chan."I pulled out my crystal ball and peeled a gem and several stickers away so I could actually see.

"What are you doing?" she mumbled, twisting herself around to face me. Her dark hair's braid softly melted into shiny waves.

"You know how I often share my abilities with you?" I asked, drawing in an experimental power.

"Yeah, and?"

"There's a new one I'm trying to master. It allows you check in on the future of the person."

Kaiyato scoffed. "Isn't that, like, the basic skill required for psychics?"

"Ugh," I groaned. "Shut up, ms. powerless. My premonitions come every so often but I can't control it, nor who or what it is about. I can only predict small events given previous information about the person or subject. But I've been studying and now I should be able to uncover a bit by focusing, regardless of background and context."

"Uncover what?"

"Let me see your arm." I grabbed her arm resting on her thigh. She made an oomph as her body was yanked towards me.

"Aiura, what are you doing-"

"Just let me experiment real quick." If this worked, I could have information on her. Maybe I could understand her more. I raised her hand upwards and snuck a needle from my bag.

"This might hurt just a bit."

"What-" I pricked Kaiyato and a squeezed a drop onto my crystal ball. I carefully wrapped my hands around it and closed my eyes. The orb glowed purple upon touching and soon I was hit with flashes of  memories and memories-to-be. I saw...

"What the hell!" she shouted, yanking her hand back. Her legs uncrossed as she stood up, while I sat staring at the orb in disbelief. Confusion and anxiety gripped my heart. Was that the future? And why was it connected it her? These powers that I saw... did they really belong to the shy Kaiyato Hinashi I knew?

"Would you give it a rest already?" she yelled, exasperated. Her face was red and her body language read panicked and pissed. Her aura shifted and grew into a murky mess with undefined borders. She balled her fists and repeatedly glanced from me to the crystal ball.

"Was this your plan all along? To get my trust and then go and run your little experiments on me??"

I watched as her aura grew and pulsed with a strange glow. I didn't know what to say. I hadn't expected such as this to appear in her evaluation. It would explain her aura, which was now growing into about twice the size of her usual one, which was already abnormally huge.

"I'm so sorry- you never told me... I mean I didn't know you had p-" The sky flickered and darkened as a breeze picked up. She looked to be trying to control herself but was visibly shaking.

"Shut up!  I didn't tell you on purpose! Some things are better left in secret! Why can't you understand that?"

"I'm sorry, but look! You need to calm down. You're getting way too worked up- your aura is shifting dangerously."

"Again with the stupid psychic shit! What'd you see now, huh? Did you see the monster I am? Are you scared now?"

"No, Kaiyato- we're still friends. Nothing has changed."

"Then what's that reaction for?"

Her irises were traced with a neon light. I wondered if her powers were fated to result in the end of the world. And should I tell her? What was I to do in this situation? But right now, I knew I had to calm her down, or today I might just see the end of the world.

"Because... I can't believe you've been holding this inside for so long. Not telling anyone? That must have been hard." I set my orb down and  walked towards her.

"Please let me share your burden. I'm also psychic, I know how hard it can be. You don't have to be alone anymore."

"I could hurt you." She stepped back, but her eyes were pleading with me.

"I see no potential harm in you. Your vibes are the purest I've known. You don't have to be misunderstood anymore."

Things were good for a while. She was my closest friend, but as someone who was openly in the spotlight, it was selfish of me to influence her. Our friendship was open and because I was popular, more people wanted to know about her. More people theorized we both had powers. One day I was confronted about it.

"Bye-bye! make sure to leave a nice review after you find those keys!" I waved a customer off from my psychic readings booth. Another figure walked in, clothed in all black and a mask and beanie. His sunglasses hung low enough so that I could see part of his irises, which were a striking blue.

The guy had an eerie vibe, his aura's outer layer a beautiful shimmering shield, similar to the radiation of the Angel Winged girl's. It seemed to mask his inner form. The core aura was a smokey mix of colors indicating manic obsession and darker traits. My body tensed as he closed the curtain and pushed up his sunglasses.

"Aiura Mikoto," he said, sitting down and pulling a black case up to rest it on the table. He pulled out a file and opened it to reveal dozens of photos and documents of Kaiyato. He spread the papers and photos across the table.

"Tell me everything you know about her."

My eyes widened. Was her secret somehow leaked? Were my stalkers becoming drawn into her life as well? Was this my fault? Was she now in danger because I had brought her into the spotlight? Either way, now I could only protect her secrets.

"You've discovered the reason of her extravagant aura, have you not?"

"I... don't know what you're talking about." I swallowed, struggling to meet his gaze, intense still even shielded by dark sunglasses.

"Could you explain this, then?" the man pushed a photo towards me. It showed Y/n from afar, her eyes glinting with a questionable neon pink and hair slightly floating.

"How'd you even get that?"

"Answer the question, Aiura. What is the reason for her bright eyes and static energy?"

I st back, crossing my arms. "geez, I dunno. Maybe it's cuz you snapped a pic during a thunder storm at night where the light reflected wierdly off her eyes. there's not much to it, I mean it was taken at a distance so..."

"Is that so?"

" Trust me, if she was psychic I would know. But there's nothing special about her. She won't even get her nails done." I held up my fingernails, decorated with gems and cute charms.

"She said these were too much, can you believe? Seriously, the girl's as interesting as a rock."

"That's a lie. My team has detected inhumanly amounts of radiation from her. If you don't comply with giving information we'll be forced to run our own research. That would be fine, but it'd be a bit of a pain bothering with the abduction and lab security."

The masked guy clicked open the black case and it revealed an assortment of syringes and strange other devices.

"Who the fuck are you?" I demanded as he displayed the futuristic weaponry lined in a row in the case. I stood up, reaching to grab my phone to dial security.

"Ah ah ah," he snapped, and two bulky men appeared from behind him. They each grabbed my arm and Mr. Blue snatched my phone.

"I believe I'm the one asking questions here," he continued. He peeled pack a false bottom in the case and revealed a neat stack of freshly printed money.

"Now," he said in a sickly charming voice, "you can either tell me what I need to know and walk out with more cash than you'll ever earn in your life or have both you and Hinashi caged up and prodded with needles."

There was nothing I could do. I had to tell them...

"I want to know every single detail of her freak nature."

Freak? They wanted to know about her freak nature...? Then I'll give them a freak.

"Okay," I sighed, adjusting myself against the greasy men's grasp. I put on a mask of angst and looked up innocently.

"She practices witch craft and satanism." I felt instant guilt.

"What?"

"I'm not kidding. She seriously experiments on animals and mumbles to herself all the time. Her aura is all warped because she's severely mentally ill. I only hang out with her for charity, duh. I've gotta maintain this rep somehow."

The two men looked at each other. Blue guy said, "You're lying. Tell us the truth."

"Ugh, I'm not lying! Look, she's weird. She writes fanficts about that one anime dude with green hair and pink glasses. Pretty sure she eats bugs and stuff, too." Oops, that slipped out. Perhaps it was me projecting from that time I woke up with a cockroach in my hair. Guilt flooded me again as I realized she was extremely terrified of bugs.

The blue guy whipped out a notebook and nodded. "And you're sure this is true?"

"Yeah, duh."

"She's nowhere near close as perfect as my kuriko then," he said something along the lines of. (my memory is foggy okay?)

"Let's go," he said, clicking his pen and packing his belongings. I ripped my arms from the men and watched as they left the room. "Oh god, what the fuck are they gonna use that info for?"

Little did I know they would spread it around the school and later confront us about. That night, as the same Blue hair guy's mask slipped off, I caught a glimpse of his face. And when I reencountered Teruhashi, I knew why. All that was left was to connect the pieces and explain to Y/n.
