After yesterday's fiasco with Kusuo, I tried to steer clear of him. I had to start focusing more on my job, not on training at some random waterfall. Speaking of training, hiring our newest employee wasn't the best idea of our manager. The new girl could hardly balance plates not to mention her complete lack of self control.

"Mera, put it down," warned the other maids. I turned around, balancing a platter on each of my hands to see Chisato Mera drooling over some poor customer's oniguris. She was rabid, foaming at the mouth, hand reaching steadily for a piece. Three girls held her back chanting, "Bad, Mera. Put it down."

On top of that, Toritsuka had found out I worked here and was now watching me from the seat by the window, stirring his straw slowly in his drink. The pervert had now been sitting there for over three hours. He wasn't the only strange presence lurking. Yesterday I could've sworn there was somebody watching me. I felt eyes and slight breathing but whoever was stalking me was good at controlling their breathing and heart rate.

I sighed, shaking the feeling off. I glanced at the clock. The day was almost over-I glanced wearily at the pervert begging not to be kicked out-so I started cleaning up. Most customers were easy to deal with, but Toritsuka did not want to leave. Stubborn, like another moron I know: Saiki. Speaking of which, I was so excited to have him nag at me about training. Sarcasm, by the way. Asking him to help me control my powers must have been the worst mistake of my life. Who was I to even entrust him with a secret as deep as mine?

It wasn't so much as he was untrustworthy; I felt like he didn't give a shit enough to spread it around. He kept bugging me to show my powers like it was the most intriguing thing in the world. Still, it did kind of flatter me to have him curious. It felt like taming a god.

"Get out!" I heard a deep voice bellow. Turning around, I saw a starved Mera yanking Toritsuka's cold plate of strawberry cake and screaming at him to leave. He hadn't eaten his food because he'd been too busy drooling over the maids. Odd enough, it worked. Toritsuka scurried out of the cafe in panic.

"Nice going," I complimented her, nodding to an unfinished plate of coffee jelly in the back. Her eyes widened, noting the implement that she could have the leftovers.

Wait- coffee jelly.

I did a double take; my head whipped to the book in the corner. I peeked to get a clearer view and my jaw dropped. How was Saiki here? When had gotten here?

"Look who finally decides to say hello," he greeted me in that same monotone voice as usual.

"Kusuo, what are you doing here?"

He crossed his arms. "Good grief, what does it look like I'm doing? Enjoying a nice cup of coffee jelly."

"Considering you were hidden away in the darkest corner of the room, I can hardly believe that."

Kusuo stood up, taking out his wallet. He stepped towards me, his eyes glinting with a smile that never played on his lips.

"What did you think I was doing, Y/n?" My heart sputtered at the use of my first name. I knew we were supposedly on that level now, but it felt strange. Not a bad strange, but it did something to my gut. His height was only a bit taller than me in heels. His eyes glanced down at my dress as he stepped closer. I could smell a hint of coffee mixed with his fresh shower scent.

"Nothing," I sighed, stepping away. I ignored the heating of my cheeks as my periphrial vision caught sight of him tilting his head to see me, "the cafe is closing, so please leave."

"Will do." he stepped away and payed his dues at the counter. I watched as he gave me a final glance before he left. I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding.

"Is he your boyfriend?" I heard a muffled voice question. Turning around I saw it was Mera, cheeks stuffed with some customer's left overs.

"No." I snapped, collecting plates from a few tables. I swiftly dashed into the back room, putting the dishes up and ignoring Mera's babbling.

"We're getting dressed now," said one of my coworkers, addressing Mera. She gave a sad look.

As  I was sweeping the final scraps up from tables- men were messy- I heard the door bell chime, alerting us a customer approached.

"Sory, we're closed-" I began, turning around. I was met with the stunning image of Teruhashi Kokomi. Her face was painted with a genuine smile, and she tilted her head as she greeted me.

"Y/n!" she exclaimed. "I'm sorry I barged in, I'd just like to talk to you."

"Mera, tide pods are not edible!" I heard a waitress scream from the changing rooms.

"Alone," Teruhashi added. I nodded, silently wondering why. Her mind was in a jumble, most consisting of Stay calm. Stay collected. i'm the perfect pretty girl. I love and get loved. Saiki will love me! Saiki will be mine. The freak won't get her.

Freak? Where was this coming from? I followed her out of the cafe, around the building. The air was cool and crisp, a nice autumn setting as the sun began to set and cast an orange lighting about the sky.

"What did you want to talk to me about?" I questioned Teruhashi.

"Oh, it's just, I wanted to say-" her smile dropped, the charm in her eyes fizzing out- "stay in your place. You can't have Saiki. He's mine."

My own mouth dropped, recalling the words Saiki had said to her. "You can't have everything in the world. Know your place."

Teruhashi leaned in, her intoxicating aroma tickling my nostrils. "If you don't want the world to know about your freak nature, I suggest you avoid him, Y/n. Or should I say Kaiyato Hinashi."

My breath was stolen from my lips. The atmosphere became cold, sucking the life out of my chest. A cold sweat wrapped itself around me and restricted my movement. The use of my old name triggered the memory of Kusuo's confrontation. This time, there was something different. Sinister. Not quite evil, but dark and cold. Teruhashi could get anything she wanted- except for Saiki. I knew she would do anything to get it, and being the perfect pretty girl, God would let her. But how? How did she learn my secret? I'd been careful. Unless she had aquired it from...

There was no way. My parents had payed good money to secure my secret. The girl who'd ratted me out was supposedly gone. Still, my mind kept flashing back to the incidents of my past. They'd managed to follow me here through one of the most dangerous people. Beauty and popularity were poison, and Teruhashi had all that and more.

I watched as she washed an innocent look over her face and stepped around me, walking off. My face was ghost pale but hers as normal as ever. Teruhashi's heels clicked on the concrete as she strutted away. Her blue hair shimmered in the corrupted lighting, reflecting a mask of perfection.

"Bye, Y/n!" a couple of my coworkers called as they slipped out of the back door. I just stood, silent, hair shading the panicked expression drawn on my face. What was I to do? For the time being, I'd better stay away from Saiki.

Damn it. God loves her too much.

I'm sorry for the stalling, I've been procrastinating and have had a writers block. In English III we are writing an essay on a book we've read and just got assigned the great Gatsby which I've finished so reading/writing has not been in my best interest.
