Nobody's position

It was a very cold day in Alaska. The snow was a few feet high and there was ice hanging from the trees. Jasper was racing through the woods, not bothered by the freezing wind that whipped against his face.

He had just finished his hunt when the heard a faint heartbeat. Jasper stopped dead in his tracks and took a whiff of the air around him. There was definitely a human smell in the air. It was starting to get dark and the temperature was dropping more and more. If there was really a human here it would surely not survive the night. There was supposed to be a blizzard later as well.

With that Jasper ran towards the sound of the heartbeat. After a few seconds of running, he saw a small figure hunched up by a tree. It was wearing a blackjacked and a hood that fell deep into the person's face.

He went closer and saw that it was a little girl. She couldn't be older than fourteen and looked like she had been out in the cold for a long time. Her lips were blue and her skin was ghostly pale. Her eyes were closed but had deep shadows and she sat there with her arms wrapped around her legs, trying to keep the last bit of warmth in.

Suddenly the girl raised her head and stared at Jasper. Her grey eyes looked dull and tired. She jumped up and almost emidiatly fell back onto her knees. It was clear she had no strength at all which made Jasper question how long she really had been out here. What was also clear was that she wouldn't see another day if she stayed out here

"You don't need to be afraid, I won't hurt you. My name is Jasper Hale. I live a few miles from here with my family. Come with me...it is too cold to stay out here and we would gladly take you in for the night" Jasper said in a soothing voice, trying to not scare the human in front of him.

When he tried to influence her with his gift it was like trying to get through the deep fog. There wasn't a block, it was more like darkness, which baffled him.

The girl didn't say a word she only got back up and stared at Jasper.

"Can you understand me?" He asked to which she nodded. That was at least a start.

"Can you talk?" The girl thought for a while before shaking her head. That explained why she didn't answer. He held out his hand and the mystery girl shook her head. Jasper sighed before starting to walk back to the house. He didn't hear her following him so he stopped and turned around only to have her walk into his chest.

"Jesus...we should put a bell on you...I'm kidding" he immediately said after he saw the look on her face.

"What should I call you?"

She carefully took his hand in hers and began to write letters on it

"Shado?" Jasper asked confused. The girl nodded and continues to walk. They went in silence for about five minutes. Jasper noticed Shado was barely managing to walk. Even with her jacket on he could see she was very thin. Shado suddenly tripped and was about to land face first in the snow but he caught her quickly.

Jasper picked her up bridal-style, much to her protest, and carried her the rest of the way. She tried to get away from him but after a while, she just gave up and lay there.

After another ten minutes, they arrived at a big house. It looked like it came straight out of a fairytale, almost castle-like.

Jasper carefully put her down before walking to the door. He opened it, beckoning Shado inside. As soon as she walked in she was hit with a wave of warmth, something she hadn't felt in a long time. Her body was still freezing and the sudden change of temperature made her fingers and ears hurt.

She followed Jasper up the stairs and was greeted by six confused faces. They all looked beautiful, their skin flawless and their eyes gold.

"Who did you bring with you Jasper?" A man with blonde hair asked.

"This is Shado, I found her in the woods, she would have died so I thought I'd take her home for the night"

The Cullens looked at the girl, who was behind Jasper. Her lips were still blue and her skin almost transparent due to it being so cold. Her brown hair was frozen in places and she seemed to be thinner than the average girl of her age.

To everyone's surprise, it was Rosalie who first said anything

"Well then come in. You look like you have been out there for far too long. Why don't you have a bath, I can lend you some dry clothes?" The girl didn't say anything.

"Uhm...she doesn't really talk...at all," Jasper said after a few moments of tense silence.

Suddenly a small body stood in front of Shado making her flinch and take a step back, which didn't go unnoticed by the family of vampires. Well, all but Alice. She was obvious to the young girl's discomfort.

"Hello, I'm Alice. Those are Carlisle and Esme, our parents. Then there are Emmett, Rose, and Edward, and of course, you already know Jasper, my husband. I'm sure we'll be great friends." The little pixie-like girl said. Alice was about to give Shado a hug when he was pulled back by Carlisle, who like the other's in the room gave her a warm smile.

"Maybe after that, I can look over you, I am a doctor, just to see that everything is alright"

If Shado was tense before it was nothing compared to now.

"Why don't we warm you up a little first. I'll make you some hot Coco and Rosalie can help you with the bath" Esme said with a motherly tone.

Shado nodded slowly and Rosalie was about to grab her hand, but she pulled it back just before Rose could touch it.

"No touching...okay" Rosalie smiled, beckoning her up the stairs.

She quickly filled the tub with water while Shado just stood there, still fully clothed.

"I'll get some new things for you to wear, if you need help just knock on the door, I'll hear you" with the Rose left and Shado started to peel herself out of her clothes, before sliding into the warm water.

Her muscles ached but she couldn't bring herself to care. Shado wasn't stupid. She knew she shouldn't trust these people and she didn't, but they offered her a home for the night and that was all that mattered. As soon as it was light again she would be on her way again and she would never have to see them again.

There was a knock on the door and Esme looked in the bathroom. Shado's whole body was covered in bubbles, with only her head and shoulders visible.

"Hello dear, would you like me to help you with your hair?" She nodded and Esme grabbed the Shampo and Conditioner, before rubbing it in. Shado's hair was full of knots but Esme didn't seem to mind. She even hummed a melody while she patiently combed the girl's hair.

"They're all done," Esme said as soon as she was finished. She had seen how bone-y Shado was. Even if only her shoulders were out of the water. "Jasper and Carlisle made you a soup to warm you up and get something into your tummy"

She handed Shado a towel and Rosalie, who had also entered the bathroom, gave her a pile of clothes.

"They belong to Alice, but your really small so they might be a little bit too big, but they're better than nothing." With that said they both left so she could get dressed.

Rosalie had given Shado a long-sleeve t-shirt, a pair of fluffy socks, some underwear, and some leggings. At the bottom of the pile was a hoodie which definitely wasn't one of Alice's. She assumed it probably belonged to Jasper, the guy that had found her in the woods. It was much too big on her and reached her mid-thigh. Shado was about to leave when she saw a pair of scissors on the counter.

She quickly grabbed them and held her hair together with one hand while she cut through all of it with the other. Her hair that was a little over the shoulders now only went just over her ears.

Shado smiled and threw the rest of it in the bin before putting the scissors back. She was about to leave when she quickly took the small dagger she had hidden in her old clothes and slipped it in the sleeve of the shirt.

I hope you enjoyed the first chapter of my new book.

It is about three times longer than the ones I normally write.
I won't update every day as I am still writing my other book and I have a life (well not really).

Feel free to correct any mistakes I make
