February 14 1981

Sarah ended up at Tiffany's apartment, and she agreed to let Sarah stay for as long as she needed to. The two spent their time talking, and all in all just enjoying each other's company. February 14 had started just like any other day at Tiffany's, Sarah was still quite shaken by what her Mother was doing. She was so stressed out that she wasn't even eating her hash browns. Tiffany seemed to notice, Sarah usually wasn't this slow to finish her breakfast. She asked Sarah, in a concerned tone of voice "Hey, Sarah, you alright?"

Sarah replied. "No, I don't think I am."

Tiffany replied. "Let me guess, worried your mom's gonna swoop in and kidnap ya any time now?"

Sarah nodded. "Exactly what I was thinking. I'm worried something terrible is going to happen to either me or Brian. You know how my mother is. She needs serious help, I mean it. You ever see her show?"

Tiffany replied. "I don't think I have, tell me about it."

Sarah explained. "Well, if you see her show, expect to see a whole lot of yelling about god and salvation and Hell and stuff like that. Her show's very religious, and she gets very into evangelizing and things like that. Usually, she's good with taking her medication and stuff like that, but recently she heard something from another pastor that said taking mental health medication was a pathway to the devil or something like that. Since then she's been calling me and Brian's apartment and raving about crazy things. Sometimes the things she says are just scary. Just a day before she said she was coming to get me, Mom said that she had been thinking about killing Brian. She says he's a sinner because he doesn't believe in god or anything like that. Little does she know that I'm an atheist too, but if she does find out, I think she's gonna probably want to kill me too."

Tiffany was sickened about what she had heard. "Oh my god! She said that to Brian?"

Sarah nodded. "Yep."

Tiffany was curious.. "Sarah, what was your mother like before she stopped taking her medication?"

Sarah explained. "Mm, perhaps I should start from the beginning. You see, my mom wasn't always a holy-roller. She was a normal girl back in her teenaged years. You could've considered her a 'Loose woman' back then. You see, my mom used to mow the lawn while wearing a bikini."

Tiffany replied. "But Sarah, that isn't taboo! Women do that all the time!"

Sarah replied. "But this was a different time, Tiff. Bikinis weren't even legal in most states. She was very rebellious in other ways, like having sex before marriage, wearing jeans, and listening to rock music."

Tiffany replied. "Then she must've been pretty cool to be around. But how did she become the holier-than-thou fundie we know today?"

Sarah replied. "Well, first off, her boyfriend ended up getting her pregnant, you see birth control didn't exist back then, and she couldn't end the pregnancy by getting an abortion. She had no choice but to go through with it. She had some problems while giving birth to me, and while she was in the hospital, she had this dream that god was talking to her or something. But the problem is, that was just a dream. It was no divine intervention. She started going to church regularly, stopped wearing pants, and ceased listening to rock music. We grew up in relative poverty, and we barely had money for any necessities. When I was 16, Mom decided to give me up to somebody else. You see, She was very good friends with Brian's cousin in her teenage years, and she suggested giving me to him. Little did my Mom know that Brian was everything she hated. But she never raised that much of a fuss about it until now. But last year, after working at the local religious tv station as a tea lady, she got a job working as a televangelist, and she was able to climb her way out of poverty. That's how she met the pastor who told her to get off her meds."

Tiffany replied. "Woah. That was quite a transformation. I hope your mom doesn't end up finding you here and taking you away."

Sarah replied. "I hope so too. Want to talk about something else?"

The two decided to talk about Sarah's college classes and stuff like that. But the next morning, Sarah would wake up in an unfamiliar place, back to living with her mother.
