**** Y'all my family but y'all disappointing me in this comments. I promised a happy ending, but y'all too impatient to get there. How y'all gon give up on them. Smh.

For Amb and Aug to be stronger than they were before, it takes time. Just like in real relationships. You don't just magically-oop we back together. No. I try to write keeping in mind, that a lot of people read and learn about they way relationships work from these stories.

I'm not just writing to write or for only entertainment purposes, I'm writing to teach. You never know what people are going through who read these stories and I tried to give insight and life lessons.

Slow y'all roll. Me and Aug, I mean Amb and Aug will be back together when the time is right. To my fam that's still rocking with me, I promise you will not be disappointed. I got so many great things in stored for this, just stick with me...love y'all!

Salli- Dr. Edwards wife, is in the m/m ****

AUGUST P.O.V. –

“Thanks man for meeting me so late. I apologize about that.”

“Nah it’s cool.” I assured Dr. Edwards.

He had to miss my appointment earlier but he wanted to keep me on track. So he said he would make it up if I could meet him later that night.

I thought it was a little bit weird, meeting that late. It was after all 8:00 p.m. But he said we could do the session over a few drinks and dinner so I was down for it.

“Let’s take my car alright. And on the way back you can pick up your car.”

“Cool.” I locked my car and got in his.

He started the car and some Jazz music filled the car from the stereo.

“You like jazz?” I asked him as took off.

“Like? Man, love. I feel like I was born in the wrong era.”

“Who is this?”

“A brotha by the name of John Coltrane. He was a jazz legend.”

I hadn’t heard of him, but being from New Orleans jazz is a big part of the culture so I could appreciate the music.

“How is the internship going? Daniel told me you got it.”

“Real cool.” I smiled.

Dr. Sunjata the dentist I was interning for was real down to earth. I was straight up with him during the interview about my grades, but I told him I was trying to get back on track and work harder.

What was supposed to be a 30 minute interview turned into a 2 hour conversation. We talked about life. He clarified a lot of the stuff I was confused about at school. And he gave me a lot of insight about how to prepare for life after graduation.

I told him I wanted to open my own practice. He gave me tips on that too.

For now though I was just observing and working the front desk taking patient information. But just being in that whole atmosphere reminded me of why I wanted to be a dentist in the first place.

“He says you’re very an excellent intern. Says you come on time and help with whatever he needs help with. Thanks for making me look good.” He gave a slight laugh.

“Nah man,  thank you for the opportunity. Now that I can feel it and touch it, it’s putting me back in the right mind frame to just go back to school and work harder.”

“That’s good I’m happy to hear that.”

I started noticing we were diverging onto a two-lane road. There were no lights, except for the occasional cars that passed which weren’t very many.

This seemed like a scene from a scary movies. You know the scenes where you die from either crashing and nobody being able to find your car, or somebody walking across the road and stopping your shit then killing you.

“Uh Dr. Edwards where we going?”

“This little spot not too many people know about. The food is so worth it.” He turned on his head lights to the brightest possible.

Something in my stomach didn’t feel right about this. A car with equally bright headlights drove into sight on the other lane. Because both lights were super bright you couldn’t really see clearly in front of you. The light was blinding both drivers basically. I knew neither one of them could see. Somebody had to turn they lights down.

“Uh doc, maybe you should turn your lights down.”

“Why? I cut my on first.”

“But man you can’t see nothing if both y’all lights on full blast.”

“Tell that driver that.” He said with an attitude and yelled out the window.

“Nigga I’m in this car and I ain’t ready to die yet.” I was sorry for being unprofessional but this was a life or death matter. I reached over and turned down the lights myself.

The other car pulled to the side of the road.

Dr. Edwards pulled to the side as well and started laughing.

“I’m sorry to scare you man, but this was part of the teaching. That person in that car over there is my wife and my two children.”

“Mannnnnn, I was about to jump out this damn car.” I let out a laugh of relief.

“I used that as an example to show how anger works. See our pride, not wanting to be wrong or lose, is like keeping on the bright lights. Even though you know you’re putting yourself and others in danger. Now should the other person turn of the lights, sure. But sometimes, if we know better, we have to do better. Meaning, my family in the other car were depending on you to have the sense enough to make a rational choice. Because if you didn’t, we could have possibly all died. Don’t think about taking the higher route in arguments, etc. as loosing. No, when you be smarter, we all win. ”

“Damn, I didn’t think about it like that.”

“When you feel anger over taking you, always remember this moment. Say to yourself, “Aug man just turn down the lights.”

“I get it.” I shook my head really feeling this lesson he was teaching me.

He got out the car and motioned for his wife to come over. A beautiful woman who looked about ten years older than him came out.

“Are you okay?” She held her mouth.

“Yeah.” I laughed.

“I’m so sorry.” She hugged me. “I know you were probably scared out your mind.”

“I was but I’m good.”

“Tony just believes it’s better to show rather than tell. Something I taught him.” She smirked at him.

“Salli, August. August, Salli.” Dr. Edwards introduced us.

“Nice to meet you.”

“So now that, that’s over y’all want to eat? Me and the kids are startving.” She asked.

We all agreed and went off to eat.

AMBER P.O.V. –

“Interesting painting.” Nate’s father came into my office and looked at the painting on the wall Nate did for me. He sat in a chair in front of me.

“Your son did it. He’s extremely talented you know.”

“That’s debatable but I’m not here for that. I’m on a time crunch. We need to speed this up.” He looked at his watch then at me annoyed.

He was sitting with his legs crossed mens-style and his fingers on his temple. He didn’t like me and I made it painfully obvious I didn’t like him. I was totally against Nate appointing him to be his Chief Financial Officer. I didn’t trust his father, and something told me he would do everything in his power to sabotage Nate if he could. He was literally jealous of his son for no reason.

But Nate, oh my God, even with all his father had done he loved him so purely. All he wanted to do was make his dad proud and believed that by doing this he would be in his father’s good graces. That’s another reason I loved Nate. He still believed in the good of people, even when they showed nothing but evil.  And I have yet to see anything good about Nate’s father.

“I have talked to every head of every department. I have calculated these numbers over and over.”

“And I’m here for what reason?”

“There’s money missing.”

He laughed amused. “It’s your job to properly manage the employees to make sure they’re on track in regards to spending. I will not allow you to pin this on me.”

“You are Nate’s Chief Financial Officer. Which means it’s your job to make sure the numbers add up.”

“Maybe they’re not adding up because you can’t count. Every budget that leaves my office adds up.”

“If they don’t add up upon leaving your office then maybe you are the problem.”

“Are you suggesting that I’m stealing?” He asked appalled.

“I’m not suggesting. The proof is in the pudding.” I slid the papers his way.

“Girl I have more than you will ever have. How dare you accuse me of such a thing?” He stood up and snarled at me.

“First off I’m a woman. Second off I’m not afraid of you.”

He bent down on my desk and got in my face. “If you aren’t now, you will be.”

My door opened, Governor Parker came through. Nate’s father stood up.

“Hey guys what’s going?”

Governor Parker always had a cheery disposition.

“Just trying to account for missing money Governor Parker.”

“Goodmorning dad.” Nate’s father said.

Governor Parker patted him on his shoulder.

“You need to shave son. You looking kinda shabby. Take tips from your son. He looks how a man is supposed to look. Nice, clean and shaven.” He narrowed his eyes at him.

“How are you doing beautiful?” He smiled at me.

“I’m great Governor Parker.” I smiled back in return.

He was the sweetest man. Nate reflected him so much.

“Junior get outta here and leave this woman alone.” He told Nate’s father.

Nate’s dad looked at me with an evil stare, then turned to his father and smiled.

“Talk to you later dad.” He left out.

Governor Parker sat in a chair in front of me, he looked up at the painting.

“Nate did that didn’t he?”

“Yeah.” I smiled.

“That boy I tell you. He never ceases to amaze me. He’s got a good spirit, unlike his father.”

“What can I do for you?” I said looking through some papers.

“Well there’s a nice young lady I got my eyes on.”

I looked up at him.

“And I’m not talking about you. Although if I was about 30 years younger, you’d be my 5th wife.” He smirked.

Governor Parker was a trip.  He was such a nice looking older man, but you should have seen him in his younger years. Nate showed me pictures and when I tell you the man was fine. He was fine! His wife, bless her heart she died about 15 years ago from cancer, was one lucky woman.

“Who is it Governor Parker?”

“Well she’s about 5’5. Honey brown skin. Has a wonderful daughter. She--.”

“Oh my God are you talking about my mother?” I couldn’t believe this. When he would come over our house he would flirt with my mother but I didn’t think anything of it. He was just one of those men who called every woman sweetheart or baby. You know, just a ladies man.

“You think she’ll go for an old guy like me?” He straightened his suit.

“I don’t know. You have to ask her.”

“Aww Amber I wouldn’t even know what to say.”

“I find that very hard to believe. Nate told me about you back in your day. Mr. Ladies Man.”

He laughed a hearty laugh.

“I’ll see what I can do tho. Just for you.”

“Thank you sunshine.” He got a rose out his pocket and sat in my desk. “

That’s for you.” He winked.

“Keep making my grandson happy.”

He left out.

AUGUST P.O.V. –

“How did you guys meet?” I asked taking a bite into my burger.

“You wanna tell it or me?” Salli looked at Dr. Edwards.

“Either way you’re going to lie so feel free.” He took a sip of his Sprite he was drinking.

Since they had the kids, a girl and a boy, we decided on Fridays. Only because his daughter was persistent. She was about five years old and full of life.

“Whatever.” She fanned her hand at him. “He was my intern.”

“Really?” I laughed.

“Yeah. That’s why I said that method he used tonight, I taught him that.”

“Stealing from your wife Dr. Edwards. A shame.” I chuckled.

He raised up his hands in surrender.

“He would come in my office every day. August when I say every day. I mean it. Being super nice. Asking me what I needed. Bringing me stuff. And I thought he was just a nice guy ya know, until I realized he was trying to mack me.”

“What mack mean?” Their son who looked about three asked.

“None of your business. Eat your food Jonathan.” She looked at him.

“So doc you was trying to mack yo boss?”

“Hey, I saw something I wanted and went after it.”

“When I finally realized what he was trying to do I was like, “boy I’m ten years older than you.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, I’m 36. She’s 46.”

“Jonathan stop playing with your food and eat it.” She scolded her son.

“I full.” He rubbed his belly. “Can I get the oreo ice cream cake?”

“I thought you were full Jonothan?” Dr. Edwards asked him.

“I am. I left room for oreo ice cream cake.”

They both shook their head and laughed at him.

“How long ago was that?” I asked them.

“Oh gosh.” She said trying to think about it. “You were 21 when we met?”

“Yeah. You were 31.”

“We broke up for a minute. When he went off to grad school.” Salli said wiping her son’s face.

“Why?”

“Oh god. He was exhausting.”

“Thanks for making me feel great.” Dr. Edwards looked at her.

“Sorry babe, but you were. I had never dated a younger man before. Well not that young. And I forgot that when you’re in your early 20s you know nothing. The same person I was at 20, I was not at 30. And if you date somebody that young you have to be willing to grow with them. Bare with them while they make mistakes. And it can get rough you know. Because you already know about life, and you’re with someone trying to figure it out.” She ate some of her Pasta.

“But I had to realize. Okay, she’s being patient with me. She’s willing to grow with me, but I can’t make it any harder by expecting her to do all the work. And for a while she was doing all the work. I had to meet her halfway, by being willing to grow up and mature if I wanted her. It was probably the worse year or so of my life we were apart.”

“Mine too.” She said eating more pasta.

“Really? You never told me that. You seemed happy to me.” He looked at her with furrowed eyebrows.

“I was making myself seem happy because I felt you didn’t feel like trying so I had to move on. For you and for Jasmine.”

“What you call my name for mommy?” Their daughter looked at them with her head twisted.

“Nothing girl, eat.” Salli laughed.

“You had her while y’all broke up?”

“Yeah. When we broke up I found out I was pregnant. I didn’t tell him though. I didn’t think he was ready to be a father and I didn’t want to be a laughing stock by being some 21 year olds baby mama. Like girl you gotta baby? Who the daddy? Some 21 year old.” She shook her head.

“It would’ve looked very bad. And I’m not saying it was right. I would’ve done it differently looking back on it. But I just wished he grew up. That he showed me he was ready to be both a husband and a father. That’s all I wanted. And he did so.” She blushed at him.

“August we went through so much shit it was crazy. I don’t think when we first started dating there was a week we didn’t fight.” Dr. Edwards laughed.

“God yes.” Salli agreed. “He was always getting angry. Or storming out. But the breaking point came when he almost hit me. I had grew up in a house with domestic violence and that’s not what I wanted for my life. That was the last straw. A person can only take so much.”

“But the breakup was the best thing for me as a man. It gave me time to get myself together.”

“How did you guys end up back together?”

“She left the guy she was with. He was cheating on her. I moved back to New Orleans after school. We reconnected, she saw I had really matured and Wala!.”

“How did you know he had matured?”

“Two reasons. One I was going through a really rough time being laid off from my job and raising Jazzy alone.  He stepped in and helped me. Not as a boyfriend but as a friend. We rekindled our friendship first.”

“Which is very important. You have to start from the beginning, as if the history you had didn’t happen. That way you give each other a fresh start. To prove you are different. Of course some stuff will be the same but you get it.”

“Yeah. I understand that.” I drank some of my Sprite.

“And from the friendship, we grew back together.”

“You said two. What’s the other one?”

“He had horrible, horrible, anger issues. That was the cause of most of our fights. But when we reconnected and I got comfortable enough to tell him about the baby. He didn’t blow up. He just embraced me and said, “I wasn’t there because of my behavior and I can’t fault you for that. But I’m here now.” That’s when I knew.” She looked at him with almost tears in her eyes.

“I’m sorry.” She wiped her eyes.

“Mommy why you crying?” Their daughter asked.

“Just happy baby.” She smiled. She looked at me.

“I had been through so much. And the test of whether we could make it was that moment. And he didn’t let me down. That’s when I knew he had changed, and he was who I wanted to spend my life with.” She continued to wipe her eyes.

“Believe dat.” I smiled at them.

“And she really didn’t have to tell me Jazzy was mine. I helped her out a lot with her. And when I would look in Jazzy’s eyes, I could just tell. It’s something about the connection you have with your kids. You just know.”

“You got any kids?” Salli asked me.

“Nah, not right now.” I gave a shy laugh. “Just my three nieces I’m helping to raise.”

“Oh wow, that shows you’ll be a great father right there.” She said.

“August here says he’s not ready.”

“Boy please. One look at a baby with your own flesh and blood running through it all that changes.” Salli fanned her hand at me.

“That’s exactly what I told him.”

“I’m telling you now. Relationships are rough. But if you can get pass the rain. There’s a beautiful rainbow waiting. Just be patient enough to not rush things, and get to the rainbow.” Salli words echoed in my head.

Seeing them together reminded me of me and Amb. I wanted what they had. And if working on myself to be a better man so I could meet Amb half-way was what it took, best believe I was going to do that. For right now, I’m just being patient until me and Amb get our rainbow.
