Sata in the m/m. ****

AMBER P.O.V. –

It had been three days since I heard from August. I needed someone to talk to about this situation. I tried calling Tanya, but her and Rell were in L.A. for a show he had to do. My mother of course was with Governor Parker.

So it was just me. Alone in this house, without my daughter or anybody else. And it hurt. Because I’m always there for everybody else, but when I need somebody, no one’s there. But usually that’s how life goes.

I admit I shouldn’t have said what I said to August, but that was no reason for him to abandon me. He would get angry millions of times, and I would just forgive him. He was wrong for not doing the same thing with me.

In between crying, I busied myself making a scrapbook of Assata’s pictures from birth until now. It was my intention to give it to August as a gift at the Sip’N’See but since that’s not happening anymore, I’ll just make it to make it.

I sat trying to put the scrapbook together, but I was having separation anxiety being away from Assata. So, even though I didn’t want to talk to him, I got up the nerve to call him. On the second ring it went to voicemail.

About fifteen minutes later, he called my phone.

“What?” He said with an attitude.

“When are you bringing Sata home?”

“If you want her, come over here and get her. Cause I’m not coming over there anymore unless it’s to pick her up.”

“Whatever.” I hung up. I brushed my teeth again. Put my hair up. And when over to Cha’s apartment.

As I got out the car, a heavy set man with a brown paper bag full of beer I assume. was walking in the door.

“Hold it.” I yelled out.

He gave me a pervotic look with a creepy smile.

“Thickums. Thickums. Ooo wee. If your man ain’t treating ya right, call me baby.” He said as he held the door and I walked in.

“Thank you.” I hurried off to take the stairs. Not wanting to ride the elevator with him.

I took a deep breath and knocked on Cha’s door. I heard running to the door then it opened.

“Auntie Amb!” Chay said in excitement and hugged me.

The other girls followed and pulled me inside.

“Assata didn’t cry when I held her.” Kay said.

“Me neither.” Chay said excited.

“She cried with Noonie cause Noonie loud.” Kay looked at Noonie.

“Shut up.” Noonie pushed Kay.

Kay pushed her back. They went back and forth.

“Y’all cut that out.” Cha came out the bathroom brushing her hair.

“Hey girl.” Cha hugged me.

“August, Amb here.” She called to the back.

“He was burping Sata.”

“Oh ok.”

“How you been though?” She smiled.

“I’ve been.” I gave a slight smile back.

“If you need me, know I’m here.”

“Thank you.” We hugged once more.

Aug came from the back shirtless, with some basketball shorts on and Sata on his shoulders. She was trying to chew the gold chain around his neck.

“Stop that Munch.” He looked down at her smirking. Sata didn’t listen she was still going at it.

“Noonie go get Munch diaper bag off the bed.” He motioned his head toward the bedroom.

August looked at me with a serious expression. “So I’m having this Sip’N’See here. You her mother so of course you invited. It’s next Saturday.”

“August.” Cha looked at him.

He ignored her. “Here.” He handed me Sata, but Sata kept reaching for him. When I finally took her, she started to cry extremely bad.

“Aww Munch stop crying.”  I tried to pet her to calm down but she wouldn’t. She kept reaching for August.

“Take her.” I said choking up.

“Here go the bag Auntie Amb.” Noonie held it out to me.

“That’s okay.” I handed August, Assata and she stopped crying and immediately started giggling.

He gave me a look like, “Na.”

That hurt me so much.

“What’s wrong Auntie Amb?” Kay noticed the tears falling down my face.

“Nothing.” I quickly wiped my eyes. “Y’all give me a hug.”

I gave all the girls a hug, then left.

AUGUST P.O.V. –

The girls went in the room to watch television.

“August you wrong.” Cha looked at me.

“How am I wrong? It ain’t like I said, “Sata don’t go to yo mama, go to me.” I adjusted Sata on my hip.

“You wrong.” She just shook her head.

“You keep saying that, but you not telling me how I’m wrong?”

“As much stuff Amb put up with, with you.”

“Man.” I sucked my teeth.

“If she needed  you at any time, now is that time. She just went through something traumatic.”

“So I’m supposed to put up with her disrespecting me? Throwing what some other nigga did in my face?”

“No but you could at least talk it out with her.”

“She don’t want to talk. She want to argue. And I ain’t with that petty stuff no more.”

“August, I don’t know if you remember but we lost Mel. And when you in pain, you say and do stuff you don’t mean.”

“Man get outta here.” I sucked my teeth and sat on the couch.

“She only reacted that way when Sevyn told you that stuff because she still loves you. Because deep down she still cares about you. If she didn’t, she would’ve been like, “And? He ain’t my man.” Women don’t get possessive over men they don’t care about or love. Don’t forget why you came back. It was for her. To get her back. Cause although you changed and I’m happy you have, before Iylana fixed your life,  you were a piece of work. No matter how big you blew up at her, she always forgave you August. No matter what insult you threw her way, she always forgave you. Why? Because true love is about forgiving your s/o even when you know they dead wrong. Yeah you put them straight and say this ain’t cool. But you don’t give up on them. Especially when they hurting and need you. Remember you snapped on her when we found out about the rent thing? But did she give up on you? No she didn’t. She was there. And from that y’all relationship grew. And look what y’all got.” She looked at Sata.

“I don’t care how much money Nate had or left Sata, he ain’t create her. You and Amb did that. And only true love can create something beautiful. I don’t care what nobody say you and Amb meant to be. But y’all got realize that. I don’t see how Stacy dealt with y’all.” She went into the back shaking her head.

I looked at Sata who was shaking her head and giggling.

“Let’s go see ya Mama okay?” I kissed her cheek, grabbed Cha’s keys and the diaper bag and went to go see Amb.

AMBER P.O.V. –

I was in the bathtub when I heard the doorbell ring. I quickly grabbed a towel and wrapped it around and went to the door.

August looked me up and down. His eyes landing on my breast where the Tat still was. I covered it with the towel.

The diaper bag was on one of his shoulders, Assata was sleep on the other.

“Uh, I’mma put her in her crib.” August walked passed me and into her room.

I quickly closed the front door and went to the bedroom. I closed that door and hurried to try and change. I threw on my pink Victoria Secret PJ shorts and tank.

I heard a knock at the bedroom door.

“You can come in.” I said scratching my hair that was wildly on my head.

“We need to talk.” August looked at me from across the room.

“Yeah we do.” I sat on the bed and patted a place next to me for him to sit.

He sat down and looked at me.

“You ain’t remove it?”

“No.” I looked down.

“Why?” He tucked his bottom lip and squinted his eyes.

“Same reason you didn’t remove yours. I always had that hope.”

“Mm.” He looked down.

“I’m sorry about what I said.”

“Yeah that shit wasn’t cool at all. That hurt me.”

“That wasn’t my intention.”

“It may not have been, but it did. When you speak or do things in anger, whether you mean it or not, it hurts and can be destructive to a relationship. You shouldn’t say things in anger you wouldn’t say with a clear head. Cause once the anger is over, the hurt is still there.”

I smiled. “Baby Ghandi.”

He laughed. “Nah that’s my therapist.”

“Thank you for sharing that. I’ll keep that in mind.”

“Mm.” He looked at me then down at his hands.

“So you didn’t sleep with Sevyn?”

“Not while we were together no.”

“What does that mean?”

“Before I met you, me and Sev had uh…”

“Thing?”

“Nah not even a thing. More like a lil fling. Nothing serious. I told you, you were my first real relationship. She got mad cause I told her we couldn’t be.”

“And why? You’re single.”

“Cause I never fell out of love with you.” He moved a strain of hair that was in my face out the way. “She didn’t like that, so she tried to fuck your head up. Which she did. Which is absolutely stupid.”

“She did have pictures August.”

He gave me the look like, ‘are you serious?’

“Amber, when we was together the only places I was at was school, work, with Cha nem’, or you. I didn’t even hang with my niggas. So if I’m laying up with you every night, how the hell was I with Sevyn too, unless I’m some fucking super hero who able to be in two places at one time.”

Thinking about it he was right.

“We spent almost every waking our together. If not at yo crib, then at work.”

“Yeah, you right. I was thinking straight.”

“Obviously.”

“Shut up.” I laughed.

He smirked.

There was silence for a moment.

“I love you.” His smirked disappeared.

“I love you too.”

“Is it too soon to be kissing friends?”

“Yes.” I blushed.

“Aight.” He chuckled.

“I been thinking about something though.”

“What?” I sat Indian Style on the bed.

“I want you and Sata to move to Philly with me. I don’t wanna miss out on her first words or her walking.”

“It would take me forever to find a job. It’s too late to take the Philly bar you only got one year left.  And who would take care of her?”

“Have you ever stopped to think that I’m capable of taking care of y’all?”

“Aww Aug that would be too much.”

“I’m starting to notice something about you.”

“What?”

“You a control freak. You controlling over Sata and you don’t want me to take care of you cause then you feel you won’t be in control.”

“That’s not true.”

“It is.”

“I just don’t like depending on anybody. I’ve always been self-sufficient.”

“Well we got a child now. You can’t have that Independent I can do it myself attitude. It’ll only be one year. I’ll take care of y’all. Then when I graduate if you want to work you can. If not, you don’t have to. But I don’t want no nanny raising my daughter this early in her life. ”

I sighed.

“Can I think about it?”

He looked at me annoyed.

“I’m not trying to be difficult. Honest. It’s just that’s around the corner. And I really want it to be thought through.”

“Aight.” He sighed.

“But I don’t mind you taking care of Sata. You’re her dad, you’re supposed to do that.”

He looked at me. “What about you?”

I have to admit the thought of it felt weird. I always worked. Always bought my own. And to be totally depended on someone. Although I did still have my own money and the money Nate left me, was a foreign concept. The balance of power would definitely shift and I don’t know if I was ready for that?

“When men take care of you, they always want some other form of payment.” I made a joke out of it.

“You already know how you got to pay me.” He bit his lip and looked at me.

“See no. I’m not gonna be your little sex kitten.”

He laughed. “It’ll be like a cellphone plan. Mondays Through Fridays. Free Nights and Weekends. Holidays too.”

“Uh no.”

“You know I’m joking.” He paused. “Sorta.”

I rolled my eyes.

“Boy, we need to be planning this Sip’N’See.” I laid back on the bed. He took off his shoes and laid across the bed with his head on my stomach.

“Last time you called me a boy, you ended up with a baby. Keep playing.”  He looked up at me.

“Whatever.”

We both laughed.
